I think the reason we love Hate so much is because the Maids have so much fun playing it. They get to go wild. Especially Saiki, since she wrote the lyrics. And Dice is just quintessential, hard rock Band-Maid at its finest. Thx, JD!

The stage was so hot that Misa had to put shoes on after a couple of songs. She and Kanami took every opportunity to move back into the shade and Saiki was able to as well during solos. Poor Miku was stuck in the sun for the whole hour. There is a post show photo of Saiki drinking water and looking completely exhausted. Also the previous nights full show finished at around 1:15 am and this started little over 12 hours later at 1:45 pm.

I think the documentaries by Ohrenje convey quite well why these ladies are getting better and better. All of them have an enormous natural urge to strive for improvement. For themselves and especially as a group. And I find it very admirable and inspiring that they have maintained this for so many years despite some obstacles. 🔥🤘🏻

No one knows how they keep getting better. They're rock gods, that's how.
Lolla 2023 was in Chicago and temps were around 90-100F from what I've heard. Saiki and MISA were probably roasting, MISA had to wear shoes, that's how you know it's hot. But it's the audience whose faces were melted.

This is Grant Park in downtown Chicago, next to the lake. That's an excellent camera angle from the stage left wings across the front of the stage and showing the buildings surrounding the park. Saiki wrote the lyrics for "Hate?" (her second solo effort at writing lyrics - the first was "Corallium"). Miku says she is "direct." Look up the translation some time. Here's part of a translated interview in Natalie from 2022:
Saiki: *_HATE?_*_ felt aggressive like “THE Band-Maid song” already from the demo stage, and I just had something that pissed me off right then (laughs), so I expressed my irritation in the lyrics. Also, I simply wanted to include the phrase “I hate you”._
Kanami: _It’s a phrase that makes you want to sing (laughs)._
Kobato: _It’s hard to find any other song where you can shout “I hate you” this many times, po._
I've seen several comments on UA-cam videos and in the BandMaid subreddit from people who hadn't heard of them until this show. Same with Rockville, Sonic Temple, and Pointfest. Finally, to be fair to the camera operators, it was the _director_ who chose the camera feed. His service dog was _trying_ to help but he wouldn't take Rex's advice.

Lollapalooza is alway at Grant Park in Chicago these days. From the stage you can see the buildings on Michigan Ave. They took the stage at 1:00pm, following a DJ. MADIACS were already at the front of the stage, but most attendees were just arriving at that time. The crowd grew considerably during their set. I like to imagine what the reception would have been like had they played at night. Hulu streamed it live.

There was a LONG discussion over on the Discord server about whether she felt the stick crack and tossed it, or if she lost her grip. Many of us agree, she felt something off and tossed it just in case.
And when Kanami finished up her solo, she had to walk over to her pedal board to reset from the Solo, setting back to the Drive setting.
And the live performance from their Yokohama Arena show is MUCH better, especially as they have their own sound guy on the board and the cameramen KNEW what was going on.
Hmmm what song to cover next. If you are feeling adventurous, with Lead, try Unfair Game and Kanami LONGEST Solo so far. You can find the song without video on their channel under the releases for the YOLO single.

Although Welcome to Rockville 2023 only had fancams, you should check it out! I think that had the largest Band-Maid crowd I've seen outside of Japan. The Maids were delayed from performing in the late afternoon because of a storm so they ended up performing at night. So you can imagine! :D Also, Aftershock 2022 had a large amount of crowd too.
But of course, they weren't Lollapalooza. Lollapalooza used to be a traveling music festival but not anymore. They've been permanently in Chicago for a few years now. And they're mostly pop music nowadays versus the rock/alternative talent of their pioneering days.

Great reaction and when they hit the stage the temperature was between 95-100F. The girls later said this was the hottest show they've ever played (you can see them moving back into the shade). Also, the lyrics to HATE? were written by the main singer, Saiki, about her friend's husband caught cheating on her, which caused a huge scandal in Japan. This was a live stream on HULU, there's no DVD for this :(

If you want to see the Maids performing in extreme heat, search for 'live at Aftershock Festival'.. it looked brutal and yet they rocked it...
The whole Lollapalooza event was streamed live on Hulu, there were at least five cameras for that stage, and it was so early in the schedule that they probably let an intern play 'director'.. and he/she did an absolutely terrible job.. there should be an Emmy for 'Worst Director'.. this person would have won hands down.

Miku is so important and popular that in the Bandmaid bio she has 3 episodes. The other members have only 1. It's Mikus band and let nobody tell you she isn't running the show. She owns the rights to name and has final decision on even the most minute details. The other members take a couple breaks during set but not Miku. She stays out and does her anime routine and melts all our hearts. Miku also is a member of another group too where she is lead singer

I don't know if it was the mixing or what, but I feel like the harmonies of Miku and Saiki didn't quite blend well. It seemed off. But they nailed it other than that and then again hit it out of the park with 'Hate?'. The back and forth with MISA and Kanami was legendary. And add Akane's intense drum playing and you have a complete Hard Rock package here!

It's def the K's that do it. . Third: You aren't the first reaction channel to catch Akane dropping her stick, but most of them do miss it. It looked like she accidentally caught the bottom of her cymbal on the way up and it just plain slipped out of her hand. She had another issue earlier in this set during "No God", but I think it was a drum pedal issue.
