Why You SHOULD Read the Bible in its Original Languages

  • If you're able to read the text in Hebrew, you will notice when you're reading different passages, you will see an overlap in vocabulary. And you'll see clusters of words that occur in two or three different places that you would not see in English. And that's actually what biblical writers want you to do. Check this out!

Absolutely correct!! Going to the original languages has broadened our understanding of scriptures in ways we did not and could not imagine. Also understanding that scriptures are written in a chiastic structure also helps put the bible in a new light for us. Thank you for sharing!!

*The problem with all of this is very simple. The Language is a VEHICLE. Treating the LANGUAGE as the DESTINATION is like charting a PLANE to take you from Point A to Point B but like a refugee on a make-shit Afghan run-way your only commitment is to hanging on to the side of the plane for dear life. The Vehicle is ONE tool that aids the DESTINATION. It is NOT the Destination ITSELF.=*

And when we fail to use the Hebrew/Greek/Aramaic text to trace out meanings and connections along with CONTEXT, the end result is unfortunately false interpretation, and if you're in leadership, false doctrine altogether. I thank God for the Bible study technology we have at our disposal. At the very least, one should own a complete Bible dictionary with Hebrew/Greek words.

These are facilities of the modern era. What about people before 19th century, for 1800 years? How people of other languages would be able to understand Bible? For example, the Bible was translated to Asian langauges by 19 century. What about Asian people before that? Is it there fault that they didn't know Aramaic or Hebrew or Greek? Will they go to hell?

The elephant in the room is when the translators force their presuppositions on the reader. It is shocking to see how many times translators conveniently translate words to suit a theological agenda instead of consistently translating a Hebrew word. Sometimes a variation of the word (in English) is appropriate, but I’m amazed at how often the translators will use a word that connotes a totally different meaning. An example of the problem with this is when an Hebraism is lost, thereby destroying its actual meaning.

@@TomaTo-dm9sm the translation from Hebrew and greek is fraught with thousands of errors. On top of that prophecies in the OT were misapplied in the NT to create a lie, i.e. the trinity.
The biggest lie of Christianity, among many, is the virgin birth story plucked from Isaiah 7 and Hosea 11:1. There was no miracle birth child in Isaiah 7 that was given as a sign to king Ahaz. Its the same prophecy used in the gospels. That would mean there were 2 miracle births 700 years apart. And Romans 1:3-4 refutes this lie outright. And the Son called out of Egypt in Hosea 11:1 was ISRAEL. Isaiah 53 is referring to the suffering servant of Israel whichbis the elect prophets who give thier SOUL (not literal bodies) as a sacrifice for others. The same as the elect in the NT. The way the editors of the NT twisted the truth led to gross deception and a strong delusion just like we were warned. I could go on and on proving the lies of Christianity but I'd be here all day. It took me 5 years, 5 hrs a day, 5 days a week to figure it out. Life altering to learn the deception started 1700 years ago and was made official at the 3rd council of Constantinople in 682 ad when the trinity was made church and state law. That was 1335 years ago and fulfills Daniel 12:10-11. Everyone is looking for the false messiah in the future when he already came thru the catholic church as a false image that we all fell victim to. All people have to do is read the OT and 6k verses about who the Father said he was, is, and always will be. He never changes. He ALONE created the universe by his SPOKEN POWERFUL WORD. He alone is our redeemer and savior, Hosea 13:4, there is NO OTHER but HIM. Unfortunately due to lack of biblical knowledge and lies inserted into the NT the people were led into idolatry and apostasy.
Put not your trust in Princes nor a Son of Man in whom there is NO SALVATION Psalm 146:3.
The 1st commandment means what it says and it includes no one but the father. The father has many spirits, he is not 3 individually operating persons. Thats pure paganism of mystery Babylon the catholic church. Hope this helps. Using an interlinear and lexicon is imperative to finding the hidden pearl of great value. WISDOM of the WORD. The word doesn't become a noun until its birthed IN YOU as a Son. Thus the christ in you is the hope of glory. YOU become the anointed one sent into the world to be Gods representative and manifestion of his exact image. Worshipping ANY MAN as God Almighty is an abomination. And as "Jesus" said, we are love the Father with ALL our hearts soul and mind and HIM ONLY shall we serve.. most people i know worship A MAN named Jesus that they claim is God in human flesh.. God never became flesh because he is not a man Hosea 11:9. He transforms our carnal flesh into his perfect by the miracle NEW BIRTH by his Spirit and anointed Word formed IN us that resurrects us to new life, the last Adam the new creation,, the divine Sons of God.. By our crucifying our our flesh on our own cross of self denial. This is the propitiation for our sins. REPENTANCE. Ezekiel 18. No one died for our sins we must die to our own sins.. the prodigal Son story is a good example that confirms the OT. As is the story of salvation to that came to Zacheus house because of his repentance. Jesus wasn't even dead yet.. and Elizabeth and Zacharias were blameless before God as well. The ONKY way into the kingdom is by REPENTANCE and living the 2 golden rules.. Worship the Father ONLY and love your neighbor as yourself.. on these 2 hang all the law and prophets.. God made it easy,, Man has ALWAYS made it hard and impossible and full of lies to control the people. The truth will set you free from the traditions and ordinances of men.. then true freedom comes.. thats why we were told TO COME OUT of her (harlot church) my people!
Anyone who overcomes their own sin is blessed to be a Son of God one of many! Rev. 21:7, Hosea 11:1. Blessings.

I now see Jesus encoded all over the old testament, and the messianic prophecies come more alive when I read Yehovah is my salvation, it literally says "Yehovah is my Yeshua" (Jesus in Hebrew) , in the English we miss out on the word play God uses all over the old testament, that is telling us who is the Messiah. So if Yeshua/Jesus is part of The God head then it makes total sense that God(Yehovah) would say he is our salvation (Yeshua).
I can also look at older texts and read them, which is amazing. To see first hand what ancient writers understood the scriptures.

Understanding God's word begins with asking the Holy Spirit for Understanding (even through or from another translation standpoint). Although, it was written in another language, GOD still upholds the same meaning for ALL!!!
John 16:13 (KJV) Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
1 Corinthians 2:10-16 (KJV) But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

What makes the English translations sometimes a bid confusing, is the versions of it.
When reading the oldest English translations of the 1650s , they are really done well and have to say I think all these versions should be burned .
In doing new versions, is creating sloley , but sirley flexibility in bending the truth .
Example : The KIV changed words like a thousand generations to a thousand years , wich is clearly done because they can not explain where 35 000 years would fit in the Biblical geneology.

I’ve had this on my mind. Learning Hebrew vs Greek. We say the Bible was written in Hebrew but the NT was originally in Greek. Am I not correct that if you get a Hebrew script OT that your probably gonna have the Mesoretic text (sorry if I’m spelling it wrong)? Which was created in the 2nd century. Prior to that most Jews used the LXX which was in Greek. For the purpose of reading the Bible in its earliest translation wouldn’t one choose Greek? Or if you could read Hebrew are there earlier Hebrew versions readily available? I’m not talking about the Dead Sea scrolls, I’m talking about the average person who’s able to learn Biblical Hebrew or Koin Greek (again idk if I’m spelling that right), what’s the earliest complete work one can just order through a christian book store?

Old Testament was written in Hebrew and a tiny bit in Aramaic. New Testament is Koine (common) Greek. The original Septuagint was not the whole OT, but yes they eventually filled it out for the early church. Some of the Greek Old Testament was translated in light of Christ's advent. The Hebrew to Greek translation is no different than other translations except time period.
Point being - checed (transliteration of a hebrew word) has a broad meaning. The Greek New Testament often uses ἔλεος (mercy) for checed. Very narrow definition. It is best to know both (all three) languages. If you have interest in the original languages Greek is most relevant to the church today. In my opinion, getting into the language is easier with Greek. This is not to say the verb system is easy. Greek has letters which look like English.

    Can be helpful for sure.
But is the message of the GOSPEL so complicate that we need to learn the original language first ?
    All of us?
I like to listen to those who studied the language(s) and share their insight.
    But where we stop ?
    Knowledge puffs up
Are we all to be exposed to this trap?
    Its about doing,not knowing.
When we do GODs WORD ,we understand it also much better.

    God cant inspire in English?
What verse did you read in the Bible that convinced you that the Bible is only inspired in Greek and Hebrew original?
To say scripture is only inspired in the original is a theory. You have no scripture to back it up.

There would be a spoken tongue recitation by the actual Temple Priests,, the Sons of Zadok, the Judges of the Law, the Prophets and some of the Kings. There is no such thing as the original Hebrew Bible as a written institution of invented language arts, there is only an Oral Tradition and only an emotional experience can discern what the Bible says as the "Word of God" which was a Title for a Priestly Messiah. So with oral tradition , the Priesthood and practical experience of the anointed people living through this covenant relationship , can a true rendering of the Law and Prophets be renewed or brought to life that contemporary people can relate to the message, in the original pathological experience . So there is no true written Bible, any version is only as good as the Teacher , who must have a perfect relationship to God the Spirit , working the heart strings to make relevant use of the stories and laws. So without Jesus to tenure the Law, and fulfill it, there is no real Bible or Word of God, the situation is a Mosaic, there must be a Priest named Jesus, and there must be an Oral Recitation Law rehearsed for generations by Priests giving Services to the Temple of Israel, and with Passion , taking the literal laws to task by a Passion in the Heart, the JUDGE or WORD OF GOD is a PERSON of GOD, not a textbook , that anyone can casually read and execute any judgment upon anyone for any reason .
So the Bible is not God, the Word of God is not the Text as it was written in a later time of human invention , the real Word of God was Person, who held TITLE as a Priest and Judge and Prophet, where the actual SPIRIT of God was indwelling the mind of the Priest , to move the man to make a Judgment, viewing the Tradition , and the Story Telling as a script for the actor to fulfill and pathologically bring to life, that the Messiah is the One who takes in the Law into his Head, and with Heart and Mind , he reasons in many directions , from the past to the future and from Right to Left , up and down , and all around, RATIONALIZING to walk in God's Shoes with the Law and the Conditions on the Ground , to temper Justice and Mercy with Love, a human sense , and then pronounce the Law , based on deliberations moving from God in Heaven through a man's body made of him to be High Priest or Judge, and then from the Judge in Court of Law, to final venue of pursuit of God, and reaching an ultimate Judgment from which there is no escape, except the ESCAPE is part of the Law, taking a chance, like a gamble, , the casting forth of Lots, in a sense saying if the man so accused can reach a sanctuary city , he might wait until the Judge dies , the High Priest dies and the Court is adjourned, and so by a LOOPHOLE in the Law, that is part of the Tradition of the Law, a man might be pardoned and given amnesty , and escape the hangman's noose , out of a strange pattern of history. If the accused is held in the sanctuary for trial by the Judge, and the Judge of the Court, reckoned by God through Miracle Signs of Title, the Judge dies, the Court is adjourned and all who had been held in jails awaiting Trial , are released to go home free, because the Messiah who is their Judge in Moses Court, has legally DIED. ( Numbers 35).
So there is no written Bible , it was a verbal recitation by Judges who mingled the practical basis of law, with a reasoning heart touching the Heart of God , for a RATIONALE that puts together God in Heaven , with Man on the Earth to share and reason together , what the Law really is. So , without Jesus , there is no Law, the Judaism Jews have no Temple, no Passover of the Lord, they are not legally ISRAEL and cannot bring judgment to the world, only a Priest of the Way of the Lord, born miraculously and notoriously titled "GOD " which means "JUDGE" , For "El" the word for God , was the same word for a JUDGE , so God is first a Judge in a Court of Law, where divinity involves Humanity and whomever is in Heaven.

      Things have though sadly.
NKJV Psalm 89:6 - For who in the heavens can be compared to the Lord? Who among the sons of the mighty can be likened to the Lord?
Orthodox Jewish Bible Tehillim 89:6 - For who in the heavens can be compared unto Hashem? Who among the bnei elim can be likened unto Hashem?
      Hebrew word - Elim - God/gods
Hebrew word - El - one of power and authority; Mighty One; God
      Hebrew word - Bnei - sons of/daughters of/children of
Hebrew word - Hashem - The Name
Real English Psalm 89:6 - For who in the heavens can be compared unto The Name? Who among the sons of God can be likened unto The Name?
See how big of a difference you get when you compared the Hebrew translations with the NKJV translation? See how wrong it is? To an extent it is true, but HOW they wrote it makes it false. Especially when compared with how it SHOULD be said.
You see that a lot in Scripture. The word tannin is another one that is in error in the English translations. It has quite a few translations: serpent, dragon, sea monster, crocodile. In the desert when the Jew get bit by poisonous Tannin, yes, it translates as snake. Later in the Bible, tannin is translated as crocodile. But in Exodus, they also use the word snake. Well, that translation is wrong.
People think that God was challenging Pharaoh's right to rule so that's why Aaron's staff turned into a snake. There are a couple issues with that.
Firstly, when God had Moses cast his rod down in front of him and later the Hebrew leaders, it became a nachash, a snake/serpent. Yet when Aaron cast his rod down for Pharaoh, it became a tannin. When you look to see how Ancient Egypt was, and what their gods represented, as well as how the Pharaohs had specific gods they turned to, to the extent that some Pharaoh's put that god's name into their own, you get a clearer picture. What Aaron's rod became was a sea dragon. The top thing that goes with that, that can survive in the water and on land is a crocodile. The crocodile Sobek had much influence in Egypt. Sobek was a god of strength/power/might, he was the god of the Nile and the waters.
Whereas the goddess Waject, had two main responsibilities. She represented Pharaoh's right to rule, and she was a protector of Egypt against snakes.
When you dig deep, you find out God was challenging Pharaoh's power and the power of Pharaoh's gods, not Pharaoh's right to rule. So that's another translation.
There are two Hebrew words for daughter/s. Banot and Bnei. Bnei is the masculine translation, and depending on the context of the verse, as stated above, Bnei can be translated as sons, daughters or children.
Now angels in the Hebrew texts, have multiple names to them. Especially when you read the context of the verse which translates almost good. They are called bnei Ha-Elohim - sons of the God, malachim -angels, elim - gods, Bnei Elim - sons of God/sons of The Mighty, and princes.
The name and word Adam is also prominent in Scripture as well. The Hebrew version translates it in multiple ways.
Adam - Man, Mankind, men, man of the earth.
Then you also get this: Adamah - land;ground;soil.
A lot of Hebrew in the Bible has been ignored so much, to the extent where people are putting their own definitions in place of the real ones, which changes the Bible completely.
If one looks to Hebrew as much as they look to the NKJV for example, then you are right, the translations will not be lost. But if you look solely to an English one, with no Hebrew in it at all, be it Hebrew translation or the Hebrew text, then many will get lost in translation.

Why should you read it in Hebrew? Very simple. Because if you don't understand Hebrew and you don't know how to read it the way it is actually written, you will be like 99.9% of Christians who have no idea that the new testament and the church fathers continuously lie and distort the bible with horrible mistranslations that manipulate the meaning to make it look Christological. There's a reason why christians aren't taught Hebrew. Wouldn't that make a whole lot more sense than teaching them Latin, a dead language? Why not learn the holy language? It's because ignorance assures obedience.

"Read in it original languages"? Yes, we should in the original languages to take benefits from it. But rather it is when we STUDY the Bible, not when we READ Bible passages that is important. Only a fraction of ordinary people are gifted and can learn and read in different languages. What's why we can not have and read on bible translation, but we should check and compare different translations. Not a small number of them have hilarious and almost blasphemous renderings. E.g. NIV - 'I am the LORD; that is My name'. How can 'the LORD' be a name, not alone the name of God? E.g. KJV - 'The Holy Ghost'. What the heck is ghost to creep into the Bible? There was no person name 'Jesus' until it showed up in mid-17th c. The man of Nazareth was Yeshua, a common Hebrew name at his time. We here people use J-s as a swear, but can they even pronounce 'Yeshua'? What about 'God Jesus'?
