Can You REJECT The Holy Spirit After Receiving Him At Salvation?

  • We assume that the dwelling of the Holy Spirit in a believer is permanent. And we'll look at passages in the New Testament where the Holy Spirit's presence in the believer is referred to as a down payment, or the arrabōn, which could be like an engagement ring. And we often don't realize that deposits do get withdrawn, engagements are broken, God did divorce Israel, the Holy Spirit did leave Zion. The Spirit of God is certainly with us and he doesn't plan on going anywhere, unless you tell him to get lost. Check it out!

So, if a believer sins by no believing(moral imperfection), he no longer has eternal life?

    • @ronaldsmith8237
      @ronaldsmith8237 3 роки тому +4

If that is true, that which cannot be obtained by moral perfection, which is our salvation. Then, it, our salvation, cannot be lost by moral imperfection. Wouldn’t that include a lack of faith also? To be consistent, we would have to conclude that a lack of faith is moral imperfection. Paul said that whatsoever is not of faith is sin. Therefore, any moral imperfection will not cause a believer to lose salvation, which would include a lack of faith. What does this mean? It means that a believer cannot lose salvation for any reason, including a lack of faith.

    • @ronaldsmith8237
      @ronaldsmith8237 3 роки тому +2

Andrew, if moral perfection cannot give us salvation and the moral imperfection cannot cause us to lose salvation wouldn’t a lack of faith be considered moral imperfection? If that is true then if we were to stop believing why would that cause us to lose our salvation since it to is moral imperfection. When Mike Heiser teaches that a believer can become lost through a lack of faith he is wrong. to say that we become lost through moral imperfection would mean that he is contradicting himself since he is already insisted that the believer can never become lost through moral imperfection. He is inconsistent in what he is saying.

    • @ronaldsmith8237
      @ronaldsmith8237 3 роки тому +5

@@bobforpples if you follow Mike Heiser’s reasoning on this then a contradiction appears. Because the lack of faith or belief is moral imperfection. Paul clearly said that what whatsoever is not of faith is sin if this is true then the moral imperfection of unbelief cannot cause the believer to ever become lost. Heiser is inconsistent in his own words the truth is the believer cannot and will not ever be lost for any reason disobedience rebellion or even a lack of faith will not cause the born-again child of God to ever be lost. Eternal security is clearly taught throughout the New Testament eternal security is not a separate doctrine from salvation. Once saved always saved is the gospel. If we are not safe forever we are not saved at all!

If every believer can't say the exact same thing they are either not a believer or they have been brutalized so much by toxic preaching that they have not only doubted if they qualify for salvation, but they have taken away their anticipated rejection by walking back into the flesh and rejecting themselves. Millions of self rejectors who are securely saved and loved. Like rape victims they spend their days mourning what could have been and carrying on.

“God won’t tolerate you believing in someone else.” Yes, that’s really important because things like the prosperity gospel teach a completely different God and Jesus. You must know WHO God is and what His character is like, otherwise it’s a false god.

    • @keansalzer8364
      @keansalzer8364 3 роки тому +20

Sorry, but you've mixed apples with oranges. Prosperity teachers believe in Jesus as their savior for eternity. They don't worship an idol. They believe the adopted children of the King of Kings should have the same things that the King has...abundance and blessings. And they believe you can access the family goods by faith in action. Their teaching has raised many many people out of poverty. They have also caused the crash of many people's faith. They will pay a price for that. But when asked the question of Heiser's teaching "Who do you trust for eternal life?" every single one of them would say Jesus. That's Heiser's point.
By the way...if you want to reject people from the Kingdom for preaching false doctrine why not include the overwhelming majority who teach you will lose your salvation by the choices you make and the sin you do. That segment of the preaching community is ten thousand times bigger than prosperity teachers. Sin Consciousness instead of God's Grace and Love consciousness. Those are the guys who are doing the real damage.

By their fruits you shall know them that is what He said. Washed by His Spirit we are made free from all sin. That is the fruit unto holiness whose end is eternal life. Salvation is a promise of God and God cannot lie. Loss of salvation for any reason fails to tie salvation and cleansing to His blood and Spirit alone. The blood and spirit are in agreement and of course holy. Let your conversation be without covetousness for He has said I will never leave thee nor forsake thee. Covetousness comes from the heart and it is idolatry. From the heart the mouth speaks. I do not enjoy this but if you believe God will forsake you for any reason you are a covetous idolater. This is why He says “I never knew you depart from me you workers of lawlessness”. Do we then make void the law through faith? Nay we establish the law and by the law no man shall be justified but by grace through faith. He never knew them because they were never saved and lawless because the carnal and covetous mind seeks to earn the free gift any way they can. Who the Lord loves He also chastens. When we come under judgment in this way it is so we are not finally condemned with the world. I can cite every word of what I have just said if need be.
Incline my heart unto thy testimonies, and not to covetousness.-Psalm 119:36
I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.-Psalm 37:25
Blessed are they that keep His testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.-Psalm 119:2
Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.-Hebrews 13:5
Whoso offereth praise glorifieth Me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.-Psalm 50:23
For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.-Mathew 12:37
For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.-Romans 10:10
A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.-Luke 6:45
For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.-Mark 7:21-23
Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.-Mathew 17:15-20
Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree: and it shall be to the Lord for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.-Isaiah 55:13
But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.-Romans 6:17
And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.-Acts 22:16
And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.-1 Corinthians 6:13
But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.-Romans 6:22-23

For some people, this will arouse fear in their hearts. Probably because they think eternal security allows them to behave like an unbeliever. For me, this was affirmation of God's commitment to me, because I have never stopped believing, even though I have let Him down a lot. I have always maintained salvation is a belief issue. @@merideewelsh8722 I do not agree with Heiser on this at all. Scripture does not back up what he is saying. People who seem to no longer be Christians or no longer believe, were never true converts in the first place. Read 1 John 2:19-21. “They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that they all are not of us. But you have been anointed with the Holy One, and you all have knowledge….” The first set of people were not anointed with the Holy Spirit. Read also Ephesians 1: 13-14 talking about being sealed with the Holy Spirit. Then there is John 10:28-29. “ I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hands.” No one can - not even you can get yourself out of His hand. Also, once you become a Christian, you have eternal life. It doesn’t begin when you die. He says He gives it to us and we shall never perish. I have eternal life right now. I do not have to wait for it. Read also 1 John 5:13, “ I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.” You can have that assurance.
No, there are no unbelievers in heaven. The argument that Heiser makes is a poor one. “If any man be in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away behold the new has come.” 2nd Corinthians 5:17. Once in Christ you are a brand new person. If anyone becomes an apostate, they were not a true believer as 1 John 2:19-20 says. I quoted the Bible not Calvin. This is not something Calvin made up as someone in the video said.

The Word of God says in the last days there will be a great falling away. Falling away from what? Their salvation. I'm not saying God rips salvation away from us. I am saying our free will is always ours, and we are free to choose and to change our minds. It is foolishness to walk away but yet it happens. Can you lose your salvation? Believers in the Savior Jesus Christ Son of God are set apart from the Tribulation, not to be confused with daily personal trials whatever those challenges may be. But we are set apart from the Tribulation defined in Revelation. I used to worry about how this all transpired until I really started reading and understanding the Bible. Get yourself in a good Bible study group, program or online type of program if you are limited with time shared with fellow believers. Remember we are not given a spirit of fear, but we do have a Loving and Forgiving Lord who knows our troubles. Lay them all at the feet of Jesus pray daily for wisdom, courage, strength put on the full armor of God. You couldn’t place yourself in better hands than the assurance of Gods protection through the saving Grace of Jesus, it is not by works but by the Grace of the Lord through Faith that we are saved. Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, so if you have fear of the Lord rest assured you are on the right track. We all have to grow in faith and knowledge work out our own salvation with fear and trembling. I still on occasion go through fears, but when I lay my fears and trust in the Lords promises I rest assured he is always faithful.

@@stryker5841 Hello , I don’t recall denying that tribulation has been detailed as prophetic scriptures, especially related to the book of Revelation, my understanding is that the tribulations are are specifically for those who have no belief but may have the chance to in those coming days be redeemed however small that chance there is hope for them, however the scriptures do support the pre tribulation theology as I will detail below. It’s okay with me if you disagree. I love the Lord and have accepted His forgiveness many years ago. Jesus is the only way we enter the kingdom of God, through His unselfish sacrifice and shedding of innocent blood, that we ourselves could have never have paid. For the wages of sin is death, (spiritual death) we would not have escaped the grave, only God could do that and he did in the form of Jesus Christ. Praise the Lord.
REASON #1: Not Appointed to Wrath
The primary proof of a pre-Tribulation rapture, given by the “experts,” is this: we are raptured before the Tribulation begins because the Church is not appointed to wrath. Coincidentally, that truth is revealed in Chapter 5 verse 9 of TWO separate books of the Bible: Romans 5:9 and 1 Thess. 5:9. Please look these verses up for yourself, to lock them into your thinking.
REASON #2: Kept From the Hour of Trial
Jesus Himself told the Apostle John on the Isle of Patmos that we (the Philadelphia/faithful Church) will be kept from the hour of trial. “Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth” (Rev. 3:10). Notice also that the world is being tested. Furthermore, throughout the Book of Revelation the term “earth dwellers” always refers to unsaved people.
REASON #3: God and the Jews
The seven year Tribulation is specifically a time for God to work with the Jews. Both the Angel Gabriel and the Apostle Paul make that point. Let’s listen first to Gabriel, who is God’s chief messenger angel and speaks for God Himself (remember as we read that the Tribulation is called “Daniel’s seventieth week”). “Seventy weeks are determined for your people and for your holy city…” (Daniel 9:24)
The Church was NOT present during the first 69 weeks of Gabriel’s prophecy, and it will not be here during Daniel’s 70th week either. Gabriel specifically said it was a time frame for God to work with Daniel’s people (the Jews) and his holy city (Jerusalem).
Next, let’s listen to the great Apostle Paul. Remember, we are making the point that scripture teaches the 70th week is a time for God to deal with the Jews. “…blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. And so all Israel will be saved…” (Romans 11:25)
Here we see God’s plan. The final gentile is won to the Lord after we are caught away. After we disappear the blinders come off of eyes of the Jewish people.
I personally believe we are in the time of Israel’s “jealousy” right now. The Christians love the Jews, support them, and defend them, even though the Jews have no deep love for us. But their “jealousy” turns to “anger” when we are caught away. They will be angry that we have left them without friends on the earth. This is explained in Deuteronomy and Romans. Let’s read it in Romans 10:19: “I will provoke you [the Jews] to jealousy by those who are not a nation [the Church]. I will move you to anger by a foolish nation” [the Church].
The inevitable result is God’s chosen people will be forced to turn back to Him, as they will have no friends left after we are gone. We see that in the Book of Hosea. The last line in Hosea 5 says: “In their affliction [Tribulation, indignation] they will earnestly seek Me.”
It is unfortunate that it takes a series of catastrophic events to bring them to the Lord as a nation. Mike Bickle explains the situation like this: “God loves the Jews, but the Jews don’t love Him.”
      REASON #4: Escape Doctrine
The rapture is our “escape doctrine.” Some scoffers have used that term derisively. Never do that. This escape doctrine is not to be ridiculed, since it was coined by the Lord Himself - words in red, in Luke 21:36: “ Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man..”
REASON #5: We Receive Our Reward
Revelation 11 makes it quite clear that we receive our reward while the earth is being judged. They are simultaneous events. Revelation 11:18 declares:
The nations were angry, and Your wrath has come,
And the time of the dead [saints], that they should be judged,
And that You should reward Your servants the prophets and the saints [that’s us],
And those who fear Your name, small and great,
And should destroy [concurrently] those who destroy the earth.
After we receive our rewards, we return to the earth with the Lord. It is literally a new day. The 7th one thousand year day we call the Millennium. The Jews call it the long awaited “Kingdom Age.”

Dr. Heiser, thanks for the presentation. I'm curious to know what your understanding of justification is, in relation to the forgiveness of sins. It seems that with a new heart or being born again of the Spirit necessitates an unchangeable act. So would you say that the declaration of righteousness is only given after we finish life, or at the moment we believe? Or do you hold to a type of synergistic understanding of justification, working together with grace to bring about final salvation? My understanding is that there are only saved and not saved. Not a saved at one point and later leaving the faith. Meaning that if someone is truly born of the Spirit, they are new, they are declared righteous. Therefore, if someone leaves, it just means they were never new. Thanks brother.

John 6: 28 Then they asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?"
29 Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."
The spirit calls us to Jesus, is God reaching out and calling us to him through the spirit.
    Matthew 12: 31-32
31 Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. 32 And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.
The blasphemy of the spirit is to reject the spirit or to disobey the spirit that calls you to God and salvation through Christ and the only work required for salvation is to believe when we are called and told to believe. If we do that every other sin we’ve ever commit is forgiven, but to bless them or reject or not obey Godwin he calls us through the spirit to salvation, if we don’t do that, we are not accepting the gift of salvation through grace, and we stay condemned. It’s our choice, God already called us in the spirit, sent his son to die, and be resurrected again to be atonement for our sins, we are called by the spirit to repent and turn from sin and follow him. Excepting that is how we are saved through our faith and belief and obedience to the calling of the spirit. Our other sins don’t matter anymore and they’re all forgiven. Somewhere else in John I believe Jesus said those who believe in him and send against him will not be held accountable. We can’t lose our salvation by sinning again after being saved either the only way we can is to deny the spirit and reject is calling to believe. If we do that and stop believing, then we are refusing the calling of the spirit and that gift of salvation. He has offered to us and we choose eternal separation. God does not condemn us to help we condemned ourselves, and he saved us, we have to choose to give that up, we have to reject the calling of the spirit to come to salvation Belief in Jesus has the Messiah as atonement for our sins. He made it about as easy as he possibly could.

I like how my comment was just removed. No rebuttal--it was just removed. But as I said before, AND AS THE SCRIPTURES CLEARLY TEACH, unbelief is only ONE of the things that will keep a person out of heaven (see Rev 21:8). Unrepentant sin will also keep a Christian out of heaven. When a Christian continues in unrepentant sin, their orthodox intellectual belief will not save them. Their sin will separate them from God and their sin can grieve the Holy Spirit to the point that He departs from them, and thus will cause them to be lost forever, having been shut out of the kingdom of heaven. Believing boldly while continuing in willful sin (see Heb 10:26-31), lawlessness & iniquity will cause church-going professing Christians to be shut out forever from the presence of God. Do not be deceived by empty words from smooth-talking theologians with PhDs and popular books. If you are found to be living in sin when your time runs out, you will NOT be entering the heavenly Jerusalem. The SAINTS will go marching in--not the sinners.
The apostle of grace wrote (in Eph 5:3-7): "But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; 4 neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. 5 For THIS YOU KNOW, that NO fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has ANY inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. 6 LET NO ONE DECEIVE YOU WITH EMPTY WORDS, for BECAUSE of THESE THINGS [i.e. these sins 'and the like'; cf. Gal 5:19-21] the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. 7 Therefore do not be partakers with them."

Jesus paid for the sins of the world, but not everyone in the world will be saved. Jesus requires repentance--and yes, He requires obedience and He requires that His people bear fruit and WORK righteousness. Jesus said "unless you repent you will all likewise perish" (Lk 13:3, 5). He said that "Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who DOES the will of My Father in heaven." Seeking salvation by performing the works of the Mosaic Law will cause a person to fall from grace (Gal 5:4), but the apostle Paul was not warning people against obedience to Jesus (producing good fruit) or doing works of God--which are necessary! In Acts 10:35 we read that "whoever fears Him and WORKS RIGHTEOUSNESS is accepted by Him." It is not works to obey the commands of God such as we see in Acts 17:30: "Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent!"

I wonder if Dr Heiser is skimming over a vital ingredient in salvation? Obedience. We, just like the ancient Israelites, are commanded to obey the God we claim to believe in. That’s like the proof of the pudding right? “If you love Me, keep My commandments “ Jesus says that. Peter says, “without holiness no one will see the Lord.” I understand that it is the Lord who makes us holy and not ourselves, but in the context of the passage Peter is compelling believers to live in obedience to God and walk in holiness. Be ye holy, for I am holy. That puts a demand on US to DO something, be holy. I’m not saying “walk in moral perfection, blah, blah “ that’s impossible. But there is a commandment for us as believers in Christ to obey just as the Israelites were commanded to obey. If you believe in salvation through the atoning work of Jesus Christ, then you should have no problem with wanting to obey the One who laid down His life for you.

yeah no. This isn't quite right IMHO. I appreciate that he simply played his cards on this, but I can only assume why he comes to this conclusion. Generally, it sounds like he is trying to make the related passages relating to the loss of salvation harmonize with the traditional Calvinist/Evangelical ideas of "believe by faith once and you are saved."
There is a sucker punch here that he is falling for. On one hand you have the "pray the prayer" folks. On the other hand you have various derivatives of "you can lose it."
In my view, the best comprehension is in harmony in scripture and you can find support in all 3 major churches: Orthodox, Catholic and Protestant. Since this video is presumably to a protestant audience, I'll take that approach: What they call sanctification is 50% of what scripture simply calls salvation. Biblical salvation is Salvation + Sanctification. Biblical Salvation doesn't understand talking about the part of salvation only after death. OF COURSE eternal life and consequence is the more important, but if you learn NOTHING from James, it should be that the fruit of belief will be demonstrated in your life before death. In other words salvation will be seen in your life before you die. That fruit of belief James speaks of is salvation. Yes salvation is later after you die. But it would be SUPER WEIRD for God to sort of "not care" about SAVING us in our circumstances, given Jesus' earthly ministry. Therefore scripture calls it all salvation. Much like if you parsed off sex and said that because that act gives life, then sex is the marriage. No, you've lost quite a bit by constricting the definition of marriage to merely sex. But because we have had this raging debate with the Catholic Church asserting you salvation isn't "maintained" by works and nor is it lost by bad deeds, that debate has made it incredibly difficult to think holistically about the word salvation. Again, if someone said marriage and then everyone thought we were just talking about sex, it would be super weird to read all the passages about marriage. You would be so confused! Same with Salvation. If every time you see salvation in scripture, you think only of heaven after death, it would be a super weird read of scripture. Salvation is the Kingdom of God. It is the thing you live by or you don't every time you believe or you don't. You lose your 'deliverance' if you do not ask for it (do not have bc you do not ask...), etc. That's what scripture means when someone appears to lose salvation. They did not believe in this circumstance so they were not saved, though it was available. To those that are saved, it is always available. In this life, you can discard the benefit. Eternally, it cannot be "lost" once received in this life. The harmony is, this life is all about dress rehearsal for the real thing: abiding in Holy Communion with God forever. We think of anxiously about salvation for good reason: if it depends on us at all, we are really in trouble. He is the Author and Perfecter of the thing by which we are saved and it is BOTH a transaction and a process. The thing that "saves" us also "sanctifies" us: faith receiving the grace of Jesus in our circumstance and in our death.

Salvation being dependent on Jesus is meant to humble us and make us thankful. It doesnt mean we have a license to sin, as if salvation isn't dependent on our own actions. Being dependent on Jesus means we cant earn our way there, or show up with a list full of good deeds and say to God "I earned my salvation, now let me in". Rather, our actions reflect our love for God, and he does require that.

We come into the physical world through a flesh-and-blood birth (childbirth). We enter into the spiritual world through a water-and-Spirit birth (the new birth). We are born of flesh _once._ We are born of the Spirit _once._ To say that a believer can lose the indwelling of the Spirit and then regain it sometime later is to say that a person can be "born again" multiple times. Typologically and conceptually, that's nonsensical. In terms of Bible verses that can be cited in defense of the doctrine of eternal security, there are many to choose from, but Romans 8:38-39 and John 10:28-29 are the best, in my opinion. Anyone who claims to be have been a sincere believer but renounces their faith, blasphemes God, and/or continues to live in unrepentant sin, was never saved in the first place.

Not sure one can actually reject the living God if they have actually understood the one who revealed himself to us.
People reject what a lot of people (christians, pastors, etc) have portrayed him to be which is not true.
I remember as a child in a catholic school, a nun teaching us that our sin killed the son of God.
Now I came from a broken family that was sent into foster homes. We were all split up. I was later adopted and was told by catholic com services my parents had died in a car accident. I knew it was a lie. My life in that home was not the great adoption story people love to tell. I was not treated as their child.
But as a child hearing what those nuns said, I of course was made to feel the disaster that happened to my family and me was caused by some horrendous sin I did as a child. You can see also how one would think it must have been a past life sin. Crazy huh?
I rejected the crazy god of Catholicism who watched for me to sin so he could punish me. The one who they said was also love. Yes the double minded god of the Catholics where you never knew where you stood with him. I rejected him.
It was not the truth, so I actually rejected lies. And I am so thankful that I did because the more I learn about the real one. the more I wonder why anyone in their right mind would reject him. They are not being shown the truth. Thats why.
God is not the one doing evil in this world. He is the one who wants to deliver us from it. He cannot go against his own will.

I listened today to a preacher I respect who gave a sermon from Romans. He was saying that it’s proof we can’t lose our salvation because of what Paul says in Romans. I always saw it differently and it’s always concerned me for others how the common teaching of once saved always saved is taught. The excuse for when a person walks away from the faith is that person was never really saved anyways. That teaching never has sat well with me. The sermon today mentioned because Paul says nothing can separate us from the love of God, and then goes on to mention examples, is how this belief is that we are eternally ok. True nothing can happen that would turn the love of God from us if we believe. But if we don’t believe then the love of God hasn’t failed or makes that Romans passage untrue. I believe like parable of the sower that there’s is no false believers and yet this is a life long journey that there will always be things that will try to take our belief away.

This video shows extremely subtle covert legalism (conditional salvation) from a scholar whom I REALLY love and admire.
This kind of sophisticated double talk does nothing but sow the seeds of doubt.
    Please hear me out.
To clarify Dr. Heiser's point...Somehow a person can fool an OMNISCIENT God into dwelling within them despite the fact that God KNOWS they're going to "aposticize"? God sees your whole life and knows whether you have chosen to believe in Christ and what He accomplished on the cross.
As far as Old Testament Israel goes...
Israel was saved out of Egypt despite many of them being in unbelief, and Israel was "divorced" despite many Israelites trusting Yaweh. God's dealing with Israel as a corporate whole is a totally distinct issue from individual belief or unbelief.
As A NATION, they AGREED to a CONDITIONAL CONTRACT at Sinai.
On the other hand, our INDIVIDUAL Salvation is a FREE GIFT. Any pre-condition, condition, or postcondition NEGATES that and would make it CONDITIONAL PROBATION, not SALVATION. We are JUSTIFIED BY FAITH and it is NOT maintained by the fulfillment of ANY personal human variable.
If I can do, say, think, feel ANYTHING that would cause the Spirit to leave me, THAT IS CONDITIONAL SALVATION, not a FREE GIFT!!!
Belief that appears to "fade" or flip flop was never belief. People may be fooled by the appearance of faith, but God never is.
Across the Christian spectrum, people love to chant "BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH!", "SALVATION IS A FREE GIFT!" followed by "As long as you...________" fill in the blank with your favorite condition. Our behavior, commitment, loyalty, contrition, dedication etc. are variable and inconsistent as long as we are "in the flesh". (Romans 7)
Belief is on or off. True or false.
Our salvation has nothing to do with our zealous pride and yearning for religious participation.
Acts 17:25 nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything.
Either Christ IS who the Bible claims He is, and accomplished what the Bible says He did, or he is not and did not.
Ephesians 1:13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were SEALED with the promised Holy Spirit,
Ephesians 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were SEALED for the day of redemption.
God doesn't accidentally join people to Christ and then kick them out. The Holy Spirit is not going to 'UNSEAL' anyone.
Reject the fear, guilt, and doubt that tradition has peddled for almost 2000 years.
Romans 8:38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  • @maz3563
    @maz3563 8 місяців тому

Excellent presentation sir. It’s a short video of what I assume was a longer one. Perhaps you did, perhaps not, managed to explain three things.
    First and most important, hopefully you made it CLEAR that the fact that we're not saved through our moral compass or whatever else we do, this DOES NOT mean that we have a license to OFFEND Him with our way of life. This is made clear in Romans 6:1-2;
"What shall we say then? Are we to CONTINUE in sin so that grace may increase? Far from it! How shall we who died to sin STILL LIVE in it?"
The whole chapter 6 of this book admonishes us NOT to do that and in verses 14-16, delineates the consequences:
"For sin shall NOT be master over you, for you are not under the Law but under grace. What then? Are we to sin because we are not under the Law but under grace? Far from it! Do you not know that the one to whom you present yourselves as slaves for obedience, YOU are slaves of that same one whom you OBEY, either of sin resulting in DEATH, or of obedience resulting in righteousness?"
Second, the definition of the Greek word “believe,” is NOT the same as the English definition that simply means to mentally assent, or think, and be persuaded that someone, or something, is “true,” whereas in the Greek it means to rely upon, entrust, hold onto, and not just mere credence.
I strongly believe that the vast majority of church goers fit the former category rather than the latter.
And third, salvation is NOT equal to the Kingdom of God and vice versa. Salvation merely moves you from the condemned to the un-condemned ranks, as in saved by grace.
Entering the Kingdom is something that you MUST seek to enter through the narrow door and way as warned by Him in the gospels by OBEDIENCE to His commands.
This is clearly unveiled in Phil. 3:14:
“I press on toward the GOAL for the PRIZE of the upward CALL of God in Christ Jesus.”
    And in Col. 2:18-20:
“Take care that no one keeps DEFRAUDING you of your PRIZE by delighting in humility and the worship of the angels (so common in the religious world), taking his stand on visions he has seen, inflated without cause by his fleshly mind, and not holding firmly to the Head (as in the Greek word believe), from whom the entire body, being supplied and held together by the joints and ligaments, grows with a growth which is FROM God (as we lead our daily life in His ways)."
    And thus:
"Run in such a way that YOU (individually) MAY win" (1 Cor. 9:24).
1 Cor. 9:27, is a scripture that goes right over the head of "believers," but shouldn't if you aspire to be a disciple. It tells us:
"But I STRICTLY discipline my body and make it my slave, SO THAT, after I have preached to others, I myself will NOT be DISQUALIFIED."
Disqualified from what, brothers and sisters? This confirms that ALL of us children of God MUST qualify for something, does it not?
Well, Rev. 22:12 He tells us WHAT, once you are saved, are qualifying for:
"Behold, I am coming quickly, and My REWARD is with Me, to reward EACH one as his work DESERVES."
And what IS that reward, you might ask? Look no further than verse 15 in this same chapter:
"Have the RIGHT to the tree of life, AND may ENTER the city by the gates."
It doesn't take a genius to understand that UNLIKE Salvation, a RIGHT has to be qualified for, such as that, where in order to have the rights of an American citizen, you must be born in it, OR be naturalized (Romans 11:17:24).
Therefore, although you are saved, you still may be a LOSER.
This again, is clearly presented in 1 Cor. 3:15:
"If anyone’s WORK (what you DO, people) which he has built on it remains, he WILL receive a REWARD. If anyone’s work is burned up, he WILL SUFFER LOSS; but he himself WILL BE SAVED, yet only so as through fire" (Read 2 John 1:8; Rev. 11:18; and 22:12).
Another way to become a loser is found in 1 Cor. 6:9-10:
"Do NOT be deceived; NEITHER the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor those habitually drunk, nor verbal abusers, nor swindlers, WILL INHERIT the kingdom of God" (Read also Gal. 5:21).
This is exactly what He meant in Matt. 22:13-14:
"Then the King said to the servants, ‘Tie his hands and feet, and throw him into the outer darkness(OUT of the LIGHT of His presence and Throne); there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth in that place. For MANY are called, but FEW are chosen."
DON'T BE A LOSER by trusting in your religion, denomination, church attendance, and a HOST of other EXTERNAL religious beliefs, practices, and dead works, take this to heart and AVOID a very nasty surprise at His coming.
"With people is impossible, but with God all things are possible” (Matt. 19:26).

In the first 2.30 Minutes of the video you can see a black sillhoutte twice. The room turns red after he leaves it. My brother saw it too. I belive in Angels and so also in demons. The Greek text here is admittedly difficult to translate. However, we can see in context that John's "they" is referring to false teachers (antichrists) who left the church and started teaching their own doctrine, which caused division in the church and some to leave the true faith. John is saying that even though these antichrists were once part of John's faith community, they were ignorant of the truth in the first place, which is why they didn't stick around. My point here is that John is talking about a certain group of people (people like Diotrephes, 3 John 9-10), and not everyone who leaves the faith. In other words, 1 John 2:19 is a timebound truth about certain people and not a timeless truth about anyone and everyone.

I like this approach. "The question is who do you believe?" Of course, this opens the next question: "To believe," what does that mean? Dr. Heiser defines the belief as trust for your salvation.
Now, this is where it gets tricky because many people trust God for their salvation the same way they trust idols for salvation. 1 John 5:21 warns us against that. I guess it's al about salvation then. Salvation from what? Salvation from sin? Well, God saved ALL from sin. Yet not everyone goes to heaven. So what is it then that saves us?
FAITH? Yes, we are saved by faith and faith alone. So what is faith? The devils also believe, but they're not saved. As a matter of fact, they remain in trembling before God. 1 John 5:20 gives the clear answer. It's our identification with the Almighty through His Son, by faith, which manifests the presence of His Spirit , who cries with us "Abba Father."

Here, Heiser delivers a crucial corrective to the extrabiblical dogma of eternal security. Unfortunately, en route towards that noble finish line, he commits a logical fallacy, affirming, “That which cannot be obtained with moral perfection cannot be lost with moral imperfection.” He sometimes uses alternative phraseology: "What is not at all gained by performance cannot be lost by poor performance." In logic, this fallacy is called a non sequitur.
A single counter example is sufficient to demonstrate the logical fallacy: one does not gain natural life by perfection or performance, and yet one can forfeit natural life by (mis)behavior. In fact, it seems every gift which one receives gratuitously can be subsequently lost by one's (mis)behavior. Can anyone think of a single example that lends support to Heiser's homemade axiom?
Heiser always stops short of stating that we can forfeit divine (eternal) life by committing mortal sin (cf. Luke 15:32; 1 John 5:16f). It's strange because he rightly recognizes that the Divine Presence fled the Jerusalem temple when Israel sinned. And he rightly suggests that the dwelling of the Holy Spirit in the heart of a believer is not necessarily permanent (0:35-0:45). So, one expects him to say that the Divine Presence does flee when the individual Christian (who is God's temple) sins mortally. But he doesn't.
Granted, he does say, "If you believe, you have eternal life; If you don't believe, you don't." And he rightly understands "pistis" (belief) as carrying the force of "believing loyalty" or "faithfulness." It follows that, if one ceases to live faithfully, then one ceases to enjoy eternal life (cf. John 3:36).
And yet, out of nowhere, Heiser counters the biblical data and his own prior assertions, adding instead his own strange dogma, "What is not at all gained by performance cannot be lost by poor performance." He offers no justification for this non-sensical axiom. He simply brings that to the table.

I wonder if there is someone out there that can help me.
I don't want to win an argument.
    I don't want to fight.
Is it possible to have a contextual discussion in response to 80 verses that say it is possible to lose salvation?
i.e., "work out your salvation in fear and trembling?" Why?
If "Once Saved Always Saved" OSAS is true, then why bother with the Bible? There would be no need because all future sins are forgiven.
Am I, as a man among the men in the verse, "NO MAN can snatch you out of His hand?" John 10:28.
If I am in God's hand, am I in the position to attempt to snatch me out of His hand? Doesn't make any sense.
Isn't it stating clearly that other men are unable to snatch me from the Father's hand?
That means it cannot include me. It must mean I am capable of leaving the hand of God myself.
My point is that if I fall away into intentional, habitual sin, can God forgive that? I don't see it.
Is that not grieving the Holy Spirit?
That strikes me a blaspheming, the unforgivable sin.
    Another consideration...
If God has me in His hand and I can't escape, does that break with the definition and nature of God? It doesn't sound like God is Love in OSAS. It sounds like he is manipulator.
Love requires by definition free choice, otherwise it is not Love. So, according to OSAS, God cannot be Love.
Also, that eliminates the relational aspect of Jesus. It cannot be a conditional covenant if the believer shows no sign of heart and soul change. In a relation that amounts to some degree of commitment.
OSAS makes the recipient of Jesus' perpetual forgiveness a
    gold digger,
    a user,
    an abuser.
OSAS gives the newly born again believer the false belief that their is no possible destruction of the relationship on their part.
Just ask forgiveness when your feeling a little dirty in your conscience. Like the Jew... would simply buy another animal for the Rabbi to butcher to get himself a pardon from God then obviously be inclined to go right back out and wallow in the mire all over again.
By this simple reasoning God ceases to be a RELATIONSHIP.
OSAS becomes the ultimate "religion" because all other religions require the worshipper to do something to earn their the favor of any religion's god.
The OSAS religion doesn't require anything. It's god who does everything. He is a perpetual forgiveness machine. A jesus in a lamp. Just rub it and get forgiven.
Mockers of The God of the Living Bible do ONE OF TWO THINGS with OSAS-->
    A) They join up and fool themselves into believing they have a legitimate Fire Insurance Policy. OSAS has given them a license to go right on sinning with just a little tinge of their conscience.
OSAS claims an "Antinomian jesus" who forgives their old, ongoing, unchanged, habitual, willful, intentional sin. Or,
    B) They call out the OSAS preacher for the hypocracy and go to hell, an unrepentant, self righteous sinner (who needs the Saving Relationship of Jesus Christ, in life long repentance) all the while ignorant that Jesus said,
    Repent.
    Pick up your cross.
    Follow me.
These words of Jesus Himself are matters of the loving, relational God. His Bible is a love letter telling us how much God loves us. I think He asks us at the same time, a simpler question,
    "Do you love me?"
If you query the phrase, "losing your salvation," in openbibleinfo.com it will generate 80+ verses of Scripture about losing salvation. Can they all be out of context?
The Book of James is about "works by faith,"
    "works gratitude."
It comes after Jesus bought us from the sin debt market by His Blood. Not, before.
I hope to find someone who agrees.
I think what Mike said in this vid is on this track.
But it's like a balance between the weaker and stronger brothers of Romans 14.
Weaker= Legalism, if it is done for salvation and not an Act of Love for the one who Saved.
Stronger= Antinomianism, if it is in benign disregard for disciplining the flesh to break perfectly breakable old habits of sin. That is trampling on the Son of God.

If you can lose your Salvation then it would be in every person's best interest to hurry up and die as soon as they believe, otherwise they might screw up and lose it in the future.

The book of Acts is the history of the transition from the Old Covenant into the New Covenant. Once the Christian church was fully established, by the end of the first century, the question of when and how the Holy Spirit was received had been fully settled. The Spirit was received upon belief, and His presence was eternal. We cannot use the Acts of the Apostles to establish Christian doctrine. Those questions are forever settled in the epistles.

I do not believe we can lose our Salvation, what I'm confused about is someone who accepts Jesus as their Lord and Savior, their Salvation, and then they willingly walk away from The Lord. Whenever I ask about this the pat answer is, well then they weren't really saved. How can anyone other than The Holy Spirit know that? I've seen this happen with someone very close to me who, when their spouse committed adultery, absolutely renounced The Lord and walked away from Him. To this day, he has not cone back to The Lord. So if one can never lose their Salvation that means that we lose free will after we are saved. I cannot find this anywhere in Scripture. No one can pluck us out of God's hands but we can certainly decide to walk away from Him- unless we lose free will. I believe that there is a difference between "once saved, always saved," and Eternal Security and that is where the confusion is. There is no passage, and I've never seen one, that proves that man is not a free moral agent all the days of his life, whether he is saved or unsaved.
Jesus said, in Matthew 10:22, "Whoever endures to the end shall be saved." It is possible to not endure to the end, or this Scripture is meaningless. John 6:66 says, From that time MANY OF HIS DISCIPLES WENT BACK, and WALKED NO MORE WITH HIM." In John 8:31 Jesus said, "IF you continue in My Word, then you are my disciples indeed." There's so many more verses that clearly imply that Salvation can be lost or, more accurately, given up. I'm not talking about losing your Salation every time you sin or the idea that you have to DO anything to be saved or to stay saved. Philippians 2:12-13 says, "Therefore, my beloved (believers), as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own Salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God Who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure." This does not mean we live in fear of losing our Salvation. We are to "work out" our Salvation- by living the life of a Christian by bearing good fruit. It doesn't mean "work for" because the Bible is clear that Salvation is by faith alone and not of works. Ephesians 2:8-9, "For by GRACE you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boasts." Fear here is the reverent fear of The Lord. I do not want to start arguments over this, I just want to understand how once one is saved they cannot renounce The Lord, or how one loses their free will at the time of their Salvation. I know more than a few people who think if they accepted The Lord once in their life they're saved and going to Heaven even though they have never truly served Him. That concerns me deeply.
