I love the quote near the end. In the fundamentalist church I was brought up in, there was an almost exclusive focus on the individual's relationship with God. Yes, you were told to put others before yourself, but this was a matter of pleasing God and building your personal relationship with Christ. When you get the message that everything you think, say and do is about you and your God, other people exist for you mainly as a way to practice your faith. Your behavior towards them can then easily end up coming from a place of duty and detachment, instead of joy and love.

There's actually a complete other point of view in Judaism, whatever the denomination. For example, the biggest holiday in the Jewish calendar, Yom Kippur, comes after the end of the last month of the Jewish year (which makes it the beginning of the next Jewish year, but that's not the point). During this holiday, you have to ask God for forgiveness for every wrongdoing you've done him.
But, during the last month of the year, which ends 10 days before, you have to ask forgiveness for wrongdoing other people, and try to make those right.
Why? Because it's more important to be right to people than to God, and He might not forgive you if you haven't corrected your wrongs to others first.

I never heard the "kidnap" versus "steal" thing as a question of translation before so I found that interesting. It was always my understanding that "steal" referred to taking anything that you were no entitled to so it included stealing, or kidnapping, a person. It could also be interpreted as prohibiting "rape" because that steals someone's honor or bodily autonomy. Murder is the closest word we have for unethical killing so that's why modern English translations say "murder." Besides, people are instructed to "kill" with some regularity in the Bible.

They have a far better understanding of the Hebrew language. Some of the Bible translations used today were based off of other translations from Greek or Roman, or translations of translations. And we also have to remember what the Bible was originally used for by the Romans that created it. They created it and murdered every Christian they found that would not allow them to burn every other book they used, and executed every other Christian that refused to say their creed.

I don't believe that tale of Roman soldiers and early Christian. Paper was precious, a whole Bible or just one Gospel would be ridiculously expensive. There weren't even a set of accepted books in the New Testament, that would come with the Council of Nicea. There were books, many from the Nag Hamadi, like the Gospel of Jesus, and the gospel of Mary Magdeline. And soldiers wouldn't antagonize Jews by threatening to burn their books basically all of the Old Testament. Also I think the majority of Christian converts weren't even literate! Really the whole thing seems fictional. Also The Jews understand Hebrew, period. Hardly any Christian do. So it's not they understand "better", they(at least Orthodox Jews) understand, period. @@davidm5707 Post-Christian Judaism is a pale shadow, a false works-based religion, which holds elements of the pre-Christian Mosaic covenant religion established at Mt. Sinai in Arabia. In other words the Jews changed their own religion after the destruction of the Second Temple - it is no longer the religion of the Old Testament. Nor can it be, because the sacrificial system is dead - nor can that system be ever in affect again - even when the Third Temple is rebuilt and the sacrifices start again - because Jesus fulfilled the law, and thus the Temple is no longer necessary. God no longer needs to be 'present' in a Temple, as it was in the Mosaic covenant religion, but within any person who accepts the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour. Which the Jews strangely reject today - yet their very scripture, the Old Testament, testified for over 2000 years that that is exactly what God always had in mind, and not only for the Jews/Hebrews, but for ALL mankind: for God to live WITHIN man, thus transforming man from the inside out. Which is of course what we have already seen in Christianity, with those who truly submitted to God, and led/lead godly lives.

Personally, I always disliked it when people told me "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain" means that you're not supposed to swear. There's so much more to this verse. People with power in church, usually expected to speak the words of God, they are expected to speak in His name. I feel that this commandment tells us to speak the words He wants us to speak, and never pretend that we do while we're pushing our own ideas. Everyone who speaks in church should ask himself: Am I actually saying what God wants me to say, or am I using His name in vain by saying my/wordly things?

I've long interpreted it as not using God's *reputation* to promote your own ends/ideas -- most egregiously when a priest/pastor tries to swindle the congregation with "God granted me a vision that we'll collectively raise five million dollars to build this thing----" Names are synonymous with reputation, and it's not cool to use someone's reputation in a way they wouldn't approve of.
I don't see the word "god" as God's name, really. I realize that many people think that saying "oh my god" is blasphemy or whatever, but to me, if they're a believer then they'll answer to God for what was in their hearts at the time, and if they're not a believer then they're not referring to the same god in any case. I don't myself swear like that (I rarely swear at all), but it doesn't bother me as much as it does, say, my mom. And I do think it's telling that humanity commonly cries out to god in their most painful or troubling moments, even if they don't believe in him -- it's embedded in so many languages. Dios mio!

THE GOSPEL OF THE WORD OF ALMIGHTY GOD "is a great last day that He will save man"
"The Millennial Kingdom has come" . ... (when Moses was in the forest, God directly instructed and spoke to him. From the sky God sent food, water, and manna and it is still like this today. It will be like Joseph: Everything came to him and bowed down, for he had food.)
      Almighty God said
Have you seen what WORK of GOD WILL BE FULFILLED in this GROUP of PEOPLE? God once said, even in the MILLENNIUM KINGDOM, PEOPLE SHOULD STILL FOLLOW HIS WORDS and CONTINUE, and in the FUTURE, the WORD OF GOD WILL DIRECTLY GUIDE HUMAN LIFE TO THE GOOD LAND OF CANAAN. 🙏
When Moses was in the forest, God instructed and spoke directly to him. From HEAVEN GOD SENT FOOD, WATER, and MANNA for MAN to ENJOY, and it is STILL LIKE THIS TODAY: GOD PERSONALLY SET THE THINGS FOR PEOPLE TO EAT and DRINK to ENJOY, and He PERSONALLY sent curses to punish people. And so every step of His WORK is PERSONALLY FULFILLED by GOD.
NOW, PEOPLE ARE SEARCHING for the truths to happen again, they are trying to see signs and wonders, and those people can be neglected, because the work of God is the one that is gradually being verified.
NO ONE KNOWS that GOD CAME DOWN FROM HEAVEN, they still do not KNOW that GOD SENDS FOOD and DRINK from HEAVEN----thus, He is the REAL LIVING ONE, and the pleasant SCENES of the MILLENNIUM KINGDOM that what PEOPLE think are also PERSONAL WORDS of GOD. ☀️
This is the truth, and only this exists with God on earth. God's existence on earth refers to the flesh.
Those who are not of the flesh are not on earth, and thus all those who focus on going to the third heaven are acting in vain.
One day, when the entire universe returns to God, the CENTER of His WORK in the ENTIRE UNIVERSE will FOLLOW the VOICE of GOD; elsewhere, some will call, some will use an airplane, some will use a boat on the ocean, and some will use lasers to receive the word of God. ALL will be WORSHIPFUL, and DESIRED, they will ALL BE CLOSE to GOD, and GATHER--GATHER to GOD, and ALL WILL WORSHIP GOD----and ALL of these are GOD'S WORKS. Remember this!
GOD WILL NEVER START AGAIN anywhere. ☀️
GOD WILL FULFILL THIS TRUTH: HE WILL MAKE ALL MANKIND IN THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE FOLLOW HIM, and WORSHIP GOD ON EARTH, and HIS WORK IN OTHER PLACES WILL STOP, and PEOPLE WILL BE FORCED TO FIND THE TRUE PATH. This will be JOSEPH'S PARABLE: ALL CAME TO HIM for FOOD, and BOWED HIM, because he had FOOD.
To AVOID FAMINE, PEOPLE WILL BE FORCED TO FIND THE TRUE PATH. THE WHOLE RELIGIOUS COMMUNITY IS SUFFERING FROM A SEVERE HUNGER, and ONLY the GOD of NOW is His FOUNTAIN OF LIFE OF WATER, HAVING AN EVER-FLOWING FOUNTAIN PROVIDED FOR THE ENJOYMENT OF MAN, and PEOPLE WILL COME AND HOPE at
      His. ☀️🙏
That is the TIME that the WORKS of GOD will be REVEALED, and GOD will be GLORIFIED; ALL PEOPLE IN THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE will WORSHIP the BUSY--BIGHANING "man." 🙏
Will this not be the day of God's glory?
One day, the ELDER SHEPHERDS WILL SEND TELEGRAMS LOOKING FOR WATER from the FOUNTAIN of LIVING WATER. They are OLD, but they will still GO to WORSHIP this MAN, whom they DENIED with their MOUTHS they will recognize and in their HEARTS they will TRUST---and is this not a sign and a wonder? ☀️

When the ENTIRE KINGDOM CELEBRATES, it is the DAY OF GOD'S GLORY, and whoever will COME NEAR you and RECEIVE the GOOD NEWS of GOD will be BLESSED by GOD, and these NATIONS and these PEOPLE will be BLESSED and CARED BY GOD . The bit toward the end where the video clip was talking about love being about recognizing that the other person exists as their own person apart from you... hit home really hard. That would be a fundamental element of why my marriage failed, as my wife could never really... separate her view of how things should be and should be done from her valuation of me as a human being. On multiple occasions, she talked about things between us in terms of "If you were an employer who had an employee who kept underperforming in their job, what would you do?" The implication is that, logically, I would fire them. I'm pretty darn certain that she never really understood the toxicity of that view, and I can't say that I think she ever will. In any event, I love this video, because far too many people only see what are... fundamentally historical documents through their own limited modern lenses.

Even within the same culture and language, the translations can differ. Or at least the numbering can; I'm told the Catholics and the Protestants have different traditions, so when you speak of "Commandment #8" you could be talking about two different things.

    • @addygreen8919
      @addygreen8919 Рік тому +2

@@benjaminrobinson3842 It depends on the kind of protestants. Protestants after Luther have a very similar numbering as the catholic church, with the only difference is what is part of the 9th and 10th amendment (Wikipedia has a good list diagram about it).
But I think it makes most sense how protestants after Calvin see it, with the 1st after the catholic church being split to the 1st "No other gods" and the 2nd "No praying to pictures and statues" and 9th and 10th after the catholic church being just the 10th "No desire for something that belongs to your neighbor".
In the end the ten commandments are just a simplification of Ex 20,2-17.

Translation is so dang complicated, especially with philosophical texts... My Ancient Western Philosophy professor opened the first class by live translating a commonly-known text and having us guess what it was. None of us recognized it as the opening lines of the Gospel of John, because his translation was so dramatically different from the version we were all familiar with. A lot of his discussions of the Bible (and other philosophical texts) hinged on the word "logos", which is usually translated as "word," but is SO much deeper and more complicated than that. It is logic and reason, it's discourse and argument, it's knowledge and wisdom and understanding... you could even connect it to the light of creation. Translating it simply as "word" loses so much nuance; knowing the full meaning adds so much depth.
So yeah, translation can absolutely totally change the meaning of something. In the process of seeking to make a text more understandable to readers of a different language and even age and culture, we end up accidentally totally transforming what we read. Translation is an art, not a science!

    • @AmorphousSouffle

Logos is used to refer to the constant, written word. As in the word of God in the Bible.
There is also rhema, which refers to the instant, personal speaking of God to us, depending on personal relationship with God. They tie together deeply and it's interesting and moving.

This is why original texts must be periodically translated into the vernacular. Words change meaning over time (witness "gay"). These translations must be made by scholars of the original language and by those who are un-biased. I have read that the word "maiden" (simply an unmarried woman) was mis-translated into "virgin." Leading to a whole cult of beliefs.

    • @safaiaryu12
      @safaiaryu12 3 місяці тому

@@lanierosenberg I 100% agree. This is why I was really excited when new translations of the Iliad and the Odyssey came out recently. There were a few negative reviews about certain passages feeling "too" modern, but I'm genuinely intrigued to see how Emily Wilson handled them. Modern CAN be good, if a modern idiom or reference can carry the meaning better than older language that doesn't "click" anymore.
I also have thoughts about the changing meaning of words. My favorite example is "tyrannos". The modern word "tyrant" has a very negative connotation, but the ancient Greek "tyrannos" did not. It just meant a ruler who had seized power instead of inheriting it, and often that tyrant came into power with the support of the people. You can see this in the title of a famous play, which we now call "Oedipus Rex" or "Oedipus the King," which in ancient Greek was titled "Oedipus Tyrannos." Oedipus was a very popular ruler of Thebes because he saved them from the sphinx. At least until the "killed his father and married his mother" thing came to light...
But back to history instead of mythology. In fact, tyrants often remained popular through much of their rule, because they understood that they wouldn't be in power without popular support, so they were careful to remain just and moderate. The biggest historical example of this is Peisistratus, a tyrant of Athens who went down in history for the way he stood up for the lower classes and enacted massive economic and cultural improvements, laying the groundwork for Athens to become so preeminent in the ancient world.
Unfortunately, when he passed his power down to his sons, it did not last. After one son was assassinated over a lover's quarrel (look up the Tyrannicides, great story), the other son became paranoid, oppressing the people and killing many of them. My professor said this sort of thing happened multiple times: a tyrant took power and treated the people well because he understood he had nothing without them... but his children, lacking that context, abused their power and sullied their reputation, until they too were overthrown. It eventually happened enough that "tyrant" came into modern parlance to mean an autocratic, oppressive ruler.
Language and etymology are fascinating. ☺️

One Rabbi, whom we believe to be the Messiah, is the Christian reference point and His take is that they are commandments (Greek, ἐντολὰς), and in citing them, He unsurprisingly quotes the main commandment in question in this video as, "Do not steal" (Greek κλέπτω in Luke 18:20, repeated by the Apostle in Romans 13:9), not narrowed only to "do not kidnap," and this is further supported as not unique to either Jesus or the Apostles of that time by the text of Exodus 20 in the Septuagint, the Greek translation of the Scriptures that was made by Jewish scholars well before Jesus' time.

Beautiful presentation. I think a lot of folks unfamiliar with the bible miss the idea you kicked off with…the Covenant. All things flow from that in both an existential and spiritual sense. Many of these commandments are common sense middle ground between people who may not recognize a relationship with God. In such an instance, the desire to discover and be known to represent the highest good in one’s actions is still present. However, there is no replacement for the insurance that comes from a personal and conscious relationship with God. I say this as someone who studied the sciences for many years. Despite all of the wonder and knowledge there is an ultimate lack of answer to the question why do I exist conscious of the fact that I woke up this morning and drew breath. Still Love the sciences, but science with miracles is arguably better.

Do you honestly believe the Hebrew vocabulary, grammar, and syntax of today is exactly the same as it was 6,000 years ago? The English we use today is very different than the English we used just 100 years ago, and very different 200, 300, 400, years, etc. and you'd hear something more akin to German. "Unethical killing" is the closest meaning, apart from ethical killing, which god commanded several times (book of Samuel for 1 example) according to scriptures. The word we use for unethical killing today is murder, however, 6000 years ago and as far as we can know, "unethical killing" seems to make more sense for then. The semantics of ancient languages and understanding them today as they were used then is not a perfect science.

As for semantic meaning, the verb לרצוח specifically means to murder, implying intentional and premeditated killing of another human being, and carries a strong negative connotation, while the verb להרוג is a more general term for taking a life of animals or another human being, accidentally or at war. That's why the translation "You shall not murder" sounds okay to me.

This is the approximate direction: Those who receive the WORDS of GOD from His MOUTH WILL HAVE A WAY TO WALK IN THE WORLD, and whether they are businessmen or scientists, or teachers or workers, those who DO NOT HAVE THE WORDS OF GOD will HARD even at the first step, and they WILL BE FORCED TO FIND THE TRUE PATH. ☀️
This is what it means, "WITH THE TRUTH YOU CAN REACH THE WHOLE WORLD; WITHOUT THE TRUTH YOU CAN REACH NOTHING." The truth is: GOD WILL USE THE WAY (which means all His words) to RULE THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE and RULE and CONQUER MANKIND. 💐🙏
People are always hoping for a big turnaround in God's ways. Simply put, THROUGH WORDS God controls PEOPLE, and you MUST DO what He SAYS whether you want to or not; it is a TRUE PURPOSE, and must be FOLLOWED by ALL, and therefore, also, it is unshakable, and known to all.
The HOLY SPIRIT GIVES PEOPLE A FEELING. ☀️🙏
AFTER READING THE WORDS OF GOD, in their HEARTS they will be STRONGER, and PEACEFUL, while PEOPLE WHO HAVE NOT RECEIVED THE WORDS OF GOD FEEL EMPTY. That is the POWER of the WORD of GOD----PEOPLE NEED TO READ it, AFTER they READ it they will be FILLED, and they CANNOT be WITHOUT it. It is LIKE when a MAN INHALES opium: It GIVES them STRENGTH, and without it they are desperate, and powerless. 🙏
That's how people will behave today.
READING GOD'S WORDS GIVES PEOPLE STRENGTH. 🙏
If they do NOT READ it, they will be anxious, BUT AFTER they READ it, they will immediately RISE from where they are sitting. This is the MEANING of the KINGDOM of GOD ( the Word ) on EARTH. 💐🙏
There are some people who want to leave, or are tired of God's work. Regardless, they CANNOT TURN AWAY from the WORDS of GOD; NO MATTER HOW WEAK THEY ARE, THEY WILL STILL RELY ON THE WORDS OF GOD TO LIVE, and HOWEVER THEY REBEL, THEY DARE NOT LEAVE THE WORDS OF GOD. THE POWER OF GOD'S WORDS IS REALLY SHOWN when God RULES and EXHIBITS POWER, and THIS IS HOW GOD WORKS. This, AFTER ALL, is the WAY GOD WORKS, and NOTHING CAN BE LEFT OUT. 🙏

Being Multi-lingual I discovered, as so many, many people before me that translating from one tongue to another is sometimes near impossible to get it correct. What does what you read or speak mean to you and the native speaker? Knowing the words and order is not enough, you must think in the Language without translating from yours to theirs, knowing why that word.

    • @neoqwerty

That's why good translators need to be not only native-level fluent at both the languages involved, but also know the cultures they're both steeped in. I was lucky when I learned English, I had the internet to help my immersion and I'd daresay it's helped me get a feel for the nuances of English enough to (usually) detect the tone the writer intended, because I spent 10 years immersed in the english internet communities.
I'm learning Japanese slowly and pretty much repeating the process I used for English, including total immersion. It's always a rougher start, but you only learn the small subtleties and rules from observing them and noticing where you clash and should tweak to fit the "format".
I'm kind of grateful that Aramaic, Hebrew and Koine Greek are all preserved well enough to be immersable (is that even a word?) as languages and we can make informed context guesses thanks to a bunch of linguistic and history and anthropology nerds recovering the contemporary knowledge, too.

This thing's not even REMOTELY close. WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY off, sadly. This is the A.D. Era now.
For anyone, praying this all helps. If there’s any “ammo” here that’s either wanted or needed, go for it. As Scripture implies - “Freely you have received, freely give”.
(Lest anyone forget that everything, including all of the laws in the Old Testament point to the message of the cross in the New Testament. When Jesus fulfilled all 613 rules of that Mosaic Law (or “Torah”) thing, He rendered it obsolete. That “Mosaic Law” includes the Ten Commandments brought down from Mount Sinai by Moses as well as everything mentioned by the O.T. prophets (Matthew 5:17-20 -- He didn’t ABOLISH any of it but rather FULFILLED all of it.
      (For more information, see also John 1:17, John 3:1-6, Romans 5:18-21, Romans 10:4, 2 Corinthians 3:4-11, Ephesians 2:14-18, Galatians 2:19-21, Hebrews 7:18-19, Hebrews 7:22, Hebrews 8:6, Hebrews 8:13, Hebrews 10:8-10 and Hebrews 13:9.)).)
It’s only The Holy Spirit Who can guide into all truth (John 14:16-17, 26, John 16:13, 1 Corinthians 3:5-9, Hebrews 4:12).
There are no contradictions in Scripture...EVER.
“To sanctify” means “to set apart”. “To put to its intended purpose,” in other words.
In Hebrews 10:14, “For all time” means (may I have a drumroll, please) “For all time”. (That’s spiritually-speaking, of course. The rest of you? Welcome to being human.)
(SIDE NOTE - In some translations, “For all time” is worded as “Forever”, “To the end” or “For eternity”.)
Some things regarding someone wrapped up in Judaism (Torah / Mosaic Law):
Five requests: Kindly post a picture of your altar along with some photos of yourself as an amputee with no eyes. And WHERE did you say your Day of Atonement was again? Forgot. Oh, and if you would, please, also wouldn’t mind having some photographs of your temporary shelter built above your house built for that 7-day celebration of the Feast of Booths. And then the final request would include those photographs of yourself partaking in the other ceremonies and festivals mentioned. Additionally, as a fifth request, kindly explain why it is that Abraham gave a tenth of his spoils of war to Melchizedek as well as explain why Melchizedek was “the greater” as Hebrews 7:7-11 implies. They ALL need to be followed as perfection is perfection. Thanks much!
Since animal sacrifices are a HUGE part of honoring that Mosaic Law, wasn’t aware there was such a thing as cherry picking as to which of the 613 Torah rules one was actually going to follow. Scripture’s quite specific about it: “Be perfect such as your Heavenly Father is perfect.” “If your eye offend you, pluck it out.” “If your hand offend you, chop it off.”
In Deuteronomy 27:26, it's quite specific: “Cursed is anyone who does not uphold 100% of the law”.
One other side note is just the fact that there’s been any non-Gospel response whatsoever is already less than 100% perfect. Now what?
That’s actually why that “Torah” thing exists: It’s to demonstrate how impossible it is to keep perfectly for life as well as to show the need for a savior.

Excellent presentation. I obtained my degree in Religion from a secular university later in life to find to the best of my ability using the best resources available what the evangelist whose words are recorded in the Bible were intended to mean and how their audience would have understood them. To do that I not only had to study early Christianity, but ancient Judaism as well. The vast majority of Christians including clergy think they can read the Bible like yesterday's newspaper without any historical, societal, or Jewish context. The Bible was written by ancient Jews for ancient Jews and NOT for medieval Christians with little or no knowledge of Jewish beliefs and life. Almost all Christian theology has its origins in medieval Roman Catholic doctrine much of which was designed to promote the power of the Church by legitimizing the monarchial system and justifying a "master-servant relationship. Be happy that you are poor and powerless, just do what you are told by your masters and you will be rewarded in the afterlife. What we see today for the most part is Christianity used as an instrument of personal, societal, and political power. The God of Abraham and Jesus of Nazareth aren't the purpose of the church, they are just specially invited guests. I guess some things never change.

@matt92hun the old testament portion is only 2, Hebrew, and Aramaic. The new testament is in Greek. With the old testament all the original language is preserved in the masoretic text, and verified by using external sources like the dead sea scrolls, targets, and all sorts of hebrew writings. The only thing we English speakers have to worry about is bad translations, and our own erroneous ideas about their culture. Still a lot though.

@@michaelabraham9177 as an amateur translator: that "only" is about as small as the grand canyon. You have to worry about the contemporary sayings and turns of phrase, any popular shorthand/common wisdom, sometimes there's also wordplay, and then you have implied patterns that you only get from knowing the contemporary wisdom and now-obscure stuff.
Sometimes the best bet is to transliterate and annotate, and then offer a localization instead of trying to translate directly (which will ALWAYS lose nuance-- transliteration preserves all the possibilities via the book's worth of translators' notes, while localization preserves the feel that was meant the best, a translation is always a poor middleman between exactness and the soul of the text).
(Sorry, as someone learning his third language (Japanese, after french and English), translating is a bit of a passion for me when I see how English translations of a lot of French texts sucked the soul out of it that a bit of a localizing flourish would have preserved.)

Language has that feature and bug about it. You will only use words in so many ways for so many purposes and some words lose/change meaning over time. It isn't a bad thing but it is one of the first questions you have to ask, albeit a question that comes off as pedantic because language is usually a culturally agreed upon thing ("why would you ask that? Everyone knows xyz word means abc concept"). If I have to follow God's laws then I need to know what those laws are and what those laws aren't.

The issue I have with videos like these is that it goes from interesting tidbits to extreme claims like “with 4 of the 10 commandments not how the Jews view them are we even talking about the same thing”. This then tries to fuel doubt in those who aren’t as versed in this topic.
First the claim that 4 commandments are different is a pedantic one. Our bibles do not lay out the 10 commandments or 10 words in a certain way. So it’s up to the reader to organize them. So the first word/commandment is not “different” in that sense.
The “thou shall no kill/kidnap”, while interesting is simply a translation choice. As one studies their Bible and looks at original languages this could be an interesting point to consider. But far from makes this section of the Bible “something completely different” (paraphrasing).
Even things like the curvature of the tablets in pop culture, have nothing to do with the careful Bible reader.

Curious that there should be this textual controversy over theft vs. kidnapping. Because, when one thinks about it, the entire Decalogue can be interpreted through the lens of theft:
    1) Do not rob God of the worship rightfully owed Him.
    2) Do not rob the Creator of spiritual majesty by reducing Him to mere creature.
    3) Do not steal from God's reputation by misrepresenting Him.
    4) Do not steal from yourselves the Holy rest that is yours to take.
    5) Do not deprive your father and mother of the respect and honor that is due them.
    6) Do not steal a person's life.
    7) Do not cheat any neighbors of the sanctity of their marriage.
    8) Do not steal. Or in this video's case for kidnapping, "Do not rob a person of their freedom."
    9) Do not rob the public square of truth.
    10) Do not covet, which is the heart's prelude to all theft.

The aspect I find the most interesting is the last commandment, about not coveting. The Swedish translation says that "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, slave, donkey, oxen or anything else belonging to thy neighbour", roughly. First of all it implies an ownership of your wife, second of all it establishes that people can be owned in the form of slavery. Some translations nowadays goes by "servant" instead of "slave".

This is how we know these items were written by a human and not a god. Everything here is written as a human would have viewed society in those days.

No. The final commandment is about temptation, specifically envy, lust and greed, which lead to violating earlier ones if taken to their logical conclusion:
"Do not covet your neighbour's wife" means don't drool over a married woman (Jesus elaborates that lusting is already committing adultery in your heart), nothing to do with ownership.
Not covering someone's house, cattle, or property is self-explanatory, and not desiring someone's servants can be still applied to office jobs in a "don't headhunt and try to buy out competitor's employees" way.

Actually, nowadays in Hebrew, you could call these "The Ten Commandments" or "The Ten Verses" - עשרת הדברות or עשרת הדברים, respectively, though I think what you said is right in the sense that in the original text, they are referred to as verses.

In ancient Mesopotamia, business contracts were drawn up first on wax or clay tablets. The parties then made revisions, after which the first copy was broken and the final draft was made on the clay or stone that served as the permanent contract.

How would you describe differences between Islam and Christianity, from personal experience? I was born into a Christian family on my mother's side and a Muslim family from my father's, and converted to Buddhism about five years ago

Islam and Christianity are just about equally ridiculous and negative, with bits and pieces of positivity strewn among the psychological hangups. They are practically two denominations of the same neurosis. Taken as a whole they are a blight on humanity.

Just something to fix you about:
It's "aseret hadiberot" ( עשרת הדיברות) not "aseret hadevarim" (עשרת הדברים)
