I have been to Bali many times and still really like it. I went there for the first time about 50 years ago and I have to say it was absolute paradise. I have been travelling full-time for the last 35 years and have experienced some wonderful places but nothing like Bali in the 1970s.

As an Indonesian who was born in Jakarta, I took Bali for granted because it's so close. Took me 32 years before I went there the first time and I moved there for 8 years before I had to move back to Jakarta because of covid. Even for me as an Indonesian, Balinese are more friendly, kind, genuine. I never lock my house or motorbike when I was there and never had any problem (sometimes I forgot and left the keys in the motorbike and still there in the morning, this is outside of the house too.) I miss Bali so much ❤

Not only in Bali but many parts of Indonesia, we rarely lock our doors and vehicles.
Bali is overrated if you're from western countries and still being too western abroad with very narrow-minded approach.
Look at that very simple French man, been to 57 countries but how many languages does he speak? Even his English has terribly strong French accent.
Egypt isn't the oldest, even Egypt is very poor, very dry, far off the center of the Equator line.
Most highest humidity on Earth: Indonesia, meaning many much older artifacts has decayed much faster than just few thousands years Egypt.
And Judaism/Christianity/Islam are just the same dumb.
Even most of people know nothing about much older ancient modern civilization here in Indonesia before mega eruption of Toba supervolcano of Sumatra 75,000 years ago.
Including 25,000 years old Gunung Padang pyramid in Indonesia.
Hindu isn't from India either. Original Hindu is Indonesia not in India.
Hindu in India and in Bali are totally different
Indus, Indo, Hindia, Hindu = Indus Islands = Indo Nesos = Indonesia.
The same with Astrology came from Indonesia not by the Greeks, Egyptians nor Aramaic/Arabs/Jews.
Judaism, Christianity and Islam are just frauds branches of modified Hinduism in India.
Real Hindu came from Indonesia not India.
Hindu, Hindia, Indus, Indo, etc = Indo Nesos, Indus islands, Indonesia over 17000 islands, exactly on the center of the equator line, the center of all civilization, all Indo around the world came from here especially because of eruption of Toba supervolcano Sumatra 75000 years ago bigger than Yellowstone USA, resulted today world's largest volcanic lake Toba Sumatra.
Yet, world map is wrong since Mercator projection 1569, real Indonesia is Huge as Russia and even much richer than the rest of the world.
Dutch VOC was much richer than any present day world's richest company.
Whole Europe, USA, etc western world in general were built with Indonesia's limitless wealth.
Coffee is native in Indonesia not brought by the Dutch.
Too many lies they wrote about Indonesia even at formal school books!
The fact is whole Europe has been built with Indonesia's wealth for centuries by mentally and intellectually they hasn't changed a bit.
      But inner the same mediaeval.
      As I always state:
Thus not a complete multiracial not multilingual never been living around the world all alone since childhood are just the same never evolved dumb apes stuck inside your tiny boxes your entire life and not learning from the past to evolve better.
Many paranormals including on Bali knew not to read me a tarot card unless you're prepared for the unusual.

Indonesia is big, if you dont fancy going to Bali because it's too crowded then go to lombok. If you want to have more authentic cultural hub, go to jogja. If you want to see a tropical jungle then go to kalimantan, wanna see jurrasic park like scene go to papua. It is so confusing why a lot of people think Bali is a country.

Indonesia is SO VAST, you dont have to stuck in Bali to enjoy the life here. If you are an avid diver go to Bunaken, if you are an avid surfer go to Mentawai, If you love snorkling go to Raja Ampat, if you love sailing go to Labuan Bajo, and the list is endless, yet you choose to stay in Bali, why? because it is convenient.

While I appreciate tourism helping an island/country but damn a lot of the people and no offence especially from the West just completely disrespects the locals and culture and literally and it's not a nice word , "colonising" the island. I have been to Bali September 23 for the first time, i was travelling alone. Sadly i triple broke my left ankle on fourth day. On an unsecured construction site i fell into a sewer canal. A young lady who saw the accident organised three young men who pulled me out of the sewer. Afterwards she called an ambulance. I was brought to BIMC hospital, i had to wait three days for a guarantee of payment document from my german travel insurrance. The hospital called my hotel because they needed to see my passport. The receptionist lady took my passport from my hotel room, my medicine, my computer and so clothes and brought it to the hospital. From this day on she came everyday to visit me in hospital. I had surgery there. After discharge she organised a car which took me back to the hotel. On my last day she drove me to the airport. I am still in contact to her. Bali has the nicest people i ever met. I received so much help from complete strangers, i will go back in 24 - thats for sure! Bali is definatly worth it.

You can enjoy your stay in Bali if you know yourself. That, for me, is the essence of vacationing there. If you like the bustling nightlife, they have an area for that. If you want kid-friendly spots, there are options too. If you like a retreat or cultural enjoyment, you can find the spots too.
Don't go there not knowing WHAT KIND of vacation you're looking for, then winding up in the wrong area because you were too lazy to do your research, then blaming the whole island or even the whole country.

03:50 When he said, "Russian and Ukranian tourists creating some issues in Bali" you said "It's the world's problem". I believe you were referring to the war between the two countries.
But, I believe what the French tourist meant was, Russian and Ukranian tourist very often create problems with the locals, like they were yelling with the locals during religious rituals, arguing with the police because the police stop them and gave them tickets for not wearing helmet when they were riding motorcycles.
So local government tries to limit tourists from Russian and Ukraine coming to Bali.

The problem with Bali, is simply the infrastructure cannot cope with modern tourism, and that is simply down to mismanagement and lack of vision, money is pumped into the island but just dissapears, the handling of rubbish, trash cleaning, recycling, the road networks are a shambles, local driving laws are a joke that locals all abuse in their thousands but the odd tourist is to blame.
the entire area of Kuta and Denpasar is grossly over crowded, the roads up to Ubud are at breaking point the traffic is a nightmare.
The locals are fantastic and friendly, the food and accomodation is super cheap, and there are plenty of places to get away from it all.
Bali isn't over rated but it is very commercialised and the government plan on increasing the tourist numbers over the next 12 months without dealing with the current issues.
I have just left Bali having spent 5 days there, currently on Java in the south touring this island for a few weeks, it is a very different experience on Java tourist wise, but infrastructure still lacks, but that is OK for us seasoned travellers, not for the feint hearted though.

It's approximately 300% to 400% more expensive than most developed countries such as Australia, USA, France and Italy. The main beaches from Kuta to Canggu are very dirty and polluted. Most of the restaurants and eateries are catered to foreigners - so it's expensive compared to Thailand and Vietnam. 3 to 4 nights in the main towns is enough. Use the rest to go North into the mountains, East or South. The seawater is a disgusting brown color due to the dark sand. If you like pristine blue beaches, visit the neighboring islands such as Nusa Lembongan. It's a short boat ride and very cheap.

Bali isn’t overrated if you don’t have unrealistic expectations. Bali isn’t perfect but it’s a great place to live and also to visit if you know where to go, what to do etc
If you want a place that is less busy and less developed than Bali, there are many other islands in Indonesia close by Bali that you can go instead.
I’ve lived in Bali for about 4 years and can’t see myself living anywhere else.

I think that’s pretty much the vibe most Aussies have of Bali and don’t take this the wrong way but I think that’s part of the issue. There’s nothing in that itinerary that is about experiencing the culture, people travel to places like Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Vietnam, etc because those places have a unique cultural experience, Bali it seems for most people is about getting wasted and lounging around in your resort the next day

The genuine bali is slowly eroding with commercialized westernized stores and services. Tourists don't see this well but it's eroding Balinese culture little by little. I hope there will be strict regulations and checks how the land is being used and also attributes authentic cultural and natural zones that should remain truly authentic in native Balinese style.
