Veronique Sanson was Michel's first love, but she fell in love with an american musician. She left Michel to go live in USA. After that, Michel met France Gall, and even if their love was truly deep, he was still somehow nostalgic about Veronique. The legend says he wrote this song about their break up. My fav Berger song, along with "Quelques mots d'amour". So profound and soulful. The fragility of this question: "will you be there?" just tugs at you. You can't ignore it. In the end, all we ever crave is a companion, another human who cares as much as we do. The music is so pensive and gorgeous... sigh... Best son ever.

The meaning of this sing is powerful ... this song tells the end of a true love ... the end regretted by Michel Berger towards the singer veronique Samson who left him for Daniel Steel 💔
As I already said, Michel Berger was one of our genius song maker. Michel Berger and Véronique Sanson had been childhood friends and in 1967, they fell in love with each other but in 1972, Véronique Sanson quits him for an American singer. I don't know how they could, but they saved their friendship and he went on writing for her. When Véronique Sanson sang "Seras-tu là ?", it was in 1993, Michel Berger had already passed away in 1992. I think that's why she is so emotional while singing and makes little mistakes in the lyrics. Anyway, this is a wonderful song and, effectively, "Je serai là" is the answer from Véronique Sanson to Michel Berger. Michel Berger and France Gall have been married since 1976 to his death in 1992. Here is the video of Michel Berger and Jean-Jacques Goldman singing this magnificent song : ua-cam.com/video/gx1y-RREJF8/v-deo.html It's not very good quality, but it's a piece of French music history.
I LOVE both Berger and Sanson but for this song, I'm just entirely submerged by the emotion she gives, it's heartwrenching, it's beautiful... I'm looking forward to you listening to more of their songs, I'd love to hear your thoughts on "Toi et Moi" and "Vancouver" from Sanson, and for Berger you can't go wrong with "Quelques mots d'amour", "Le Paradis Blanc" and "Chanter pour ceux qui sont loin de chez eux".
