Electric fire apparatus is not a practical concept.
Agree, but WA. and CA. governors disagree with you and think EVs are peachy keen and want 50% compliance for government fleets by the 2040-2050s! WA. state already has a ban on “NEW” internal combustion engined vehicles being sold after 2035! Crazy where they think the raw power to charge all these vehicles is going to come from!
They're here & they work. I'd want the range-extender diesel generator but a huge percentage of runs for most depts are just for medical.
@@trob0914 That is one of the dozens of reasons people are fleeing those states
@@dbyers3897yeah, hybrids sound really reasonable: everything but long range and high volume pumping can be done on batteries, and for large fires range extender-generator can kick in. Less fuel consumption, less noise, no exhaust at the bays, also you can move the engine anywhere you want, no need for the driveshaft - put batteries there, thus get really low cg, that would allow higher water tanks without the risk of overturning e.t.c.
@@solarissv777 Well as with other drivetrains, you can't move the engine while pumping. It uses the same transmission either to drive or pump. I've looked at the CG & it's about the same as a conventional diesel engine. The electrical/battery system is quite heavy & mounted vertically behind the cab. Still has a diesel for electricity generation but I believe a Cummins C-6 would be sufficient plus fuel & def tanks. You might be describing the Rosenbauer RTX. It's an EU style & set up very differently.
