The catechism of the catholic church will tell you what the church teaches.
A distinct difference should be acknowledged between sexism and religious opinions. Butker is receiving backlash because of his comments about women's rights and their roles in society. He is quoted as saying that their greatest joy should be being mothers and homemakers, not in workplace jobs. Nowhere in the Bible is it said that women should not or can not be part of the working community. In fact, so many conservative and working Christian and Catholic women that I know personally have rejected his speech for that comment as it disrespects the effort that they put in to be treated fairly in their workplaces because of sexist ideas like this. Yes, he has the right to free speech, and yes, this speech was given at a conservative university. However, this does not excuse the offensive ideas he communicated.

We would much rather hear a speech from some of the NFL players who have assaulted or abused their spouses or partners, or have been charged with a sexual or other criminal act, and the NFL has no problem still keeping them on the payroll and paying them millions.

This college Religious affiliation is catholic. Giving a commencement speech that is in line with their beliefs makes absolute sense. What does not make any sense is, what exactly are all the offended individuals doing at a Catholic College listening to their commencement speech. If you don’t like their beliefs then stay away. Catholics are entitled to express their values and beliefs as well as all other individuals especially in their domain.
But he’s a public figure and as such his words carry more weight than the average person’s. As a public figure he’s subject to scrutiny, and when a public figure spouts a garbage opinion that insults and degrades half our population by saying they’re only fit to be housewives and baby factories, he’s gonna get flak for it!

He's saying that no matter what women will cherish their families more than their jobs. What's so wrong about people putting families first? As for many of the other things... Ministers, and Priests say the same things every Sunday morning. He has a difference of opinion on life.
And he has every right to hold those opinions. That doesn’t mean he should’ve inflicted them on an unsuspecting audience at a university convocation!
And remember - freedom of speech does NOT mean freedom of consequences from that free speech!

Well when some people have been repeatedly judged guilty for inducing disease and possible plagues on "Christian" European countries for centuries because they believe in Judaism only, there may very well be similarities.

I am not a mother nor am I married. My greatest accomplishment was the life I chose to live and the contribution I will make in my field of study. With that said, he was speaking to a conservative catholic college and they all hold those views. In the USA, they have a right to their views and in no way does their view keep me from practicing science.
