  • LEGENDARY BOXERS Explain How Good Muhammed Ali REALLY Was At Boxing!
Everybody knows Muhammad Ali was good. But was he the greatest? Muhammad was a very influential figure in the world. When the people gathered at the stadium, Muhammad Ali could get them to do anything. That's how much praise they had for him. This boxing legend was a genius in his craft and used his fighting skill to make a mockery out of boxing legends like Frazier, George Foreman and Larry Holmes who were a lot bigger than him.

I do remember when Iron Mike said. "Ali didn't have a good defense. He never threw a body shot in his life" ... I think the blow back for those comments made Mike change his tune. Everybody wants to be popular and if it takes slinging BS -- there's a time to be a politician.

@@bgt2848 Cus D'Amato was the greatest matchmaker ever. His system got Tyson a title shot at 20 and Patterson a title shot at 21. Cus would get on the phone and secure matchups on a date certain. He'd have 2 backup opponents ready in case his 1st choice of opponent fell through for whatever reason. He taught his system to Jimmy Jacobs, who was also great, but died when Iron Mike was very young. Cus said, "Seventy percent of success in Boxing is matchmaking. A boxer not only needs the right fights, but he needs the right fights in the right order." he was good at that. "If you don't own a world title you should have a fight lined up. You take more punches sparring than you do fighting. If you're skilled enough you could fight every day, so why not twice in a month?"

Ali was flashy rather than fast. Flashy is making many unnecessary motions for showmanship. Ali has the worst punch stats of any noted heavyweight champion as proven in the very important and well documented book "Muhammad Ali: By The Numbers"
Ali got trapped on the ropes often and took severe punishment from Norton, Spinks, Frazier, Holmes, and other guys who outpunched Ali by wide margins -- including opponents who were robbed by the judges such as Young, Shavers, Jones, and Norton in 2 fights.
Usyk is a much more efficient puncher and masterful defender, who never gets trapped on the ropes. He bullied much bigger, stronger, and taller 6'5" X 233 Daniel Dubois around the ring and stopped him in 9 rounds. He outboxed 2-time Heavyweight Champion Anthony Joshua, who is younger, and stands 6'6" X 245, twice. Ali never faced specimens of that size and strength.

Ali was not just good. He was beautiful.
    He moved beautifully
He brought a lot of aesthetics and popularity to heavyweight boxing

Ali was a good looking man in a baby faced way. He certainly wasn't that popular. Many people celebrated Joe Frazier's and Ken Norton's wins over Ali. Many didn't like the braggart and loved it when he got his just deserts, like the broken jaw from Norton. Joe Louis vs Max Baer pulled 88,000 fans into Yankee Stadium for a non-title fight. Only about 19,000 people showed up for Ali-Norton III in Yankee Stadium. Bob Arum bitched about it. Norton landed 87 more punches than Ali landed and the officials were corrupt as hell.

Ali was not only the "Greatest" because of his boxing skills, but also because of his sharp mind, wit, and his steadfast beliefs that he adhered to in a time of cultural turmoil and war which resulted in him being banned from his craft in the prime of his career. Ali never wavered or compromised just to continue his profession.

He might have won a lot of boxing matches when he wasn't allowed in the ring, but he was busy at the time- fighting a much bigger fight. After the fight wouldve been signed, Ali and his team would've immediately started watching videos of Tyson to look for strengths and weaknesses in his game. After coming up with a gameplan, Ali would've started training and mentally preparing for Tyson. At press conferences and fight promotions, Ali would get into Tyson's head by calling Mike a bum and say he was to ugly to beat him. He would do this so that Tyson would lose focus from his own game plan and fight from anger. At this point, the fight would've been over before it started. Once the bell would 'ding' to start the first round Ali would've used his footwork and Jab to distance himself from Tyson's onslaught of deadly punches. In the 2nd round Ali would've backed up against the ropes and covered his head letting Tyson punch away at his lower body. The third round is when Ali would start talking to Tyson so that it would induce more punches from him and lower his stamina and punching power. Ali would save his energy and repeat the first three rounds until the 7th round and then he would go to work on a spent Tyson and end it by Knock Out.

One thing made unstoppable was he used his brains more during a fight than his opponents.

Ali was to boxing what the Beatles were to Rock, what Jordan was to basketball. Not only was it excellent, but it made boxing a show, profitable, and not only can you make a good living being a champion, but also so that all the others who do not have the projection of being a champion can also fight and make a living from it. . In boxing, there is a pre-Ali stage, and a completely different post-Ali stage.

I still cant comprehend the fact that this man, who was a textbook Heavyweight, 107kg or so and 1,93m or something, who danced like a lightweight, shuffling, jumping etc for 15 rounds!!
It should not be possible for a Heavyweight.
There will NEVER be a Man like Ali again:(

Ali was the greatest of all time. They took the title from him three times and he got it back every time. He was the one who perfected his style when young and then as an older man the rope a dope. I watch every fight of his and him and Howard Do interviews.

I watched Larry Holmes punish Ali and I teared up as a child then I watched Tyson destroy Larry Holmes and I teared up as an adult! For whatever reasons Larry Holmes is sort of the forgotten man in All time great fighter discussions ! I remember I wanted anyone to beat him !!! He was champ from 78 - 85 !!! He was 48-0 when Spinks finally beat him in an upset ! Incredible!

Its a shame most of his retirement Ali struggled to speak. Have a bad feeling most of these Slap competition guys will be the same way. Not that any of them will have anything as relevant to say as Ali did
