My brother and two other buddies from California were in North Miami Beach at the Wreck Bar at the Castaways Resort and next to us was a young Black couple and in walks Muhammed Ali. This was 1971 and I am here to tell you Ali was the most unassuming man, he would simply smile and nod his head, I never heard him speak. When he sat down at the next table I was maybe 5 feet away from him. Ali was unbelievably good looking. You would never suspect he was the Heavyweight Champion of the World (stripped because of his anti Vietnam War stance). He was so cool. Anyway the Chef immediately came out with a large chocolate cake and set it down on the table. Ali smiled and held up his thumb and first finger indicating a small slice, which the Chef then delivered on a plate. I am from LA so I am used to seeing Stars on Sunset Blvd in Beverly Hills or around Malibu, but Ali? No one will ever come close to that moment.
