Lotus says that the Eletre R is the world's first Electric Hyper-SUV, and it certainly has some pretty 'hyper' specs. 905 horsepower, 0-60 in 2.95s, active aero with a deployable spoiler and honeycomb grille shutters, 34 sensors - including 12 camera, 18 radar and 4 lidar.
But does it feel at all like a conventional Lotus?
Nope. It just can't given the size, weight and immense power. The closest connection I can make between driving this and something like the Emira is they are both some of the best handling and driving vehicles in their segments.
The interior on the Eletre is absolutely wild, one of the best I have experienced in recent times. Materials are properly impressive and high quality, the tech integration is staggering, with amazing graphics and features. The 23 speaker, 2160W KEF sound system is phenomenal, and the overall experience definitely fits the price tag.
It is also quite blisteringly quick in the canyons! It is expensive, but also doesn't really have any proper competitors. You would get one of these if you have a lot of money, and want the latest and greatest tech/performance SUV experience, plus you'd have something else that none of your other rich friends have.
My dream scenario would be Lotus builds a bunch of these high performance/luxury EV SUVs and sedans, and ends up with a boatload of cash to build more gas sportscars like the Emira. It probably won't happen as they have stated the Emira is the end of the ICE lineup, and all future Lotus' will be EV. Sad, but they are certainly off to a good start with this ridiculous EV SUV.

It is hard to say a heavy, complicated, tehnology laden electric suv has the "DNA" of a lotus. Interesting technology, but only a mega rich environmentalist type would be into this.
man you've come a long way in the last few years! i remember watching all of your S3 reviews back before I picked my 2020 up a couple years ago haha keep up the good work!
That’s a gorgeous car
what a car! thanks for the review - I I really enjoyed!
Glad you liked it! I was quite impressed
Lotus should revive the Esprit.
I’d take this, an Emira, and the spare cash over a Purosangue any day
drive the emeya
Amazing review Eddie you’ve the man, keep up the great work buddy
It’s so weird to see it going quick and you reacting to it but not hearing any engine lol
It’s a very strange part of these fast EVs haha
nice
nice car, thanks nissan
Why Nissan for a Lotus?
@@GenieFarms no nissan is a nickname for eddie, because his face looks like a older nissan
I dont know how if I'd call it a hyper SUV. Many electric vehicles throw 700+ horsepower in them. Its really not hard to put a tom of HP in electric cars. Inwouldnt be surprised if 5-600 doesn't become the normal and they start pushing above 1000hp for 70k-100K models.
Looks like a Kia
You forgot to include the Tesla Model X Plaid into the mix albeit it’s nowhere near the handling of the Eletre R.
I have followed you from the beginning and please stop reviewing so many ev's I'll never drive one.
I doubt you will never. The government has made it clear ICE are entering the final stages. Unless your older than 50, I bet you will own one whether you like it or not in the next 50 years
Well, that’s just you. Thank God, Eddie doesn’t just rely on you for views and money lol
Despite what your mom tells you, the world doesn’t revolve around you 😂
No more evs
