Dr Paul Mason is a wealth of knowledge and needs to never stop teaching. He is able to break down and simplify the immense complexity of the inner workings of the human body! Thank you Dr Mason!
You hit the nail on the head. Doctors don’t have confidence that their patients can change. I get that with my endocrinologist. He tells me I am doing well when I have a lower but not normal A1c. It is great to tell me I am doing better, but expect better from me.
Dr Tim Noakes have for years been an advocate for the Ketogenic/Banting diet for athletes, marathon runners and general population - turning 180 degrees on his initial stance of carb-loading, which he admits he was wromg and carbs are bad.
10:00 Osteoporosis - Bones are primarily made of proteins - Calcium slows down bone degradation but can't make new bone because you're missing the protein 13:00 Vitamin K2 & Calcium - wasn't well known for a while. - K2 is high in pastured (grass-fed) meat - K2 helps to lead the calcium in your bone. - Isolated calcium supplementation increases the risk of heart disease in females. - Calcium can be found in eggs, small fish with bones like sardines 17:35 Kidney - Protein being bad for the kidneys has never been shown - there is a kidney problem where you loose protein from the kidney into the urine, and the doctors usually advise to take less protein, which is absurd. - If you eat lots of protein, your kidney gets larger, which suggests it has more capacity. - Carnosine attaches to the molecule on glucose, which prevents them from attaching and damaging cells in our body. He advises 500mg, twice a day. - Waking up in the night to pee is a sign that your kidney is malfunctioning. It's wrong to believe that you have to drink to keep your urine clear. 32:30 Fruits - Today's fruits are mutants filled with fructose - Not all sugar in fruits is fructose : on average 50% - fructose has a toxic effect on the liver - oxidized oils damage the liver and contribute to insulin resistance 46:00 weight loss leads to massive improvements in sleep apnea because the tongue shrinks. 1:02:00 lectins cause weight gain and blood sugar 1:08:00 bone broth has nothing special in it 1:10:00 study where they looked at bone, fat and muscle while they eliminated from their diet : - sodium : ability to form muscle tissue dropped by 2/3 - potassium : // by 100% Electrolytes are a building block of new cells. 1:13:00 Magnesium - essential for >300 reactions in our body - beneficial in regards to insulin sensitivity - magnesium enhances the body's capacity to hold on to potassium - too much or too little potassium -> arrhythmia
I was told by obgyn when I was pregnant that midwives don’t weigh you after your first visit, as not to upset you. Because the midwife at 12 weeks pregnancy told me I was ideal weight and eat how I’ve been eating, I ate what I wanted (the more pregnancy sickness I had, over months, the more my diet worsened). I then got weighed during labour and was rejected from a midwifery suite, as my higher weight was considered too high risk so had to go to the main hospital birthing suite.
Paul Mason talks so reassuring about the keto diet. When I first lowered my carbs I noticed I had really stinky breath. After about 6 months it went away despite keeping my diet the same. I always wondered why! Thank you x
The same happened with me, but it was a bit shorter period, and didn’t find a scientific explanation. But I guess the body as it is adapting, it is overwhelmed and end up producing more that necessary ketone bodies (for just in case) as the body still didn’t learn yet the best baseline ratio required for having an adequate energy level. So this excess ketones manifest as bad smell in breath and sweat. After a while the body adjusts and learn what is the best level to keep in circulation and the smell drops. I thought this could be the reason because whenever I went into a cheating period and back to clean keto the bad smell will show up again until I readjust. I like to follow Amy Berger, especially with her series Keto without the Krazy (or some title like that). She is critical of people obsessed with measuring their ketones and keep insisting in remaining in “deep” ketosis which is really not necessary for maintains good metabolic health, but it is needed in rare cases such as treating kids with epilepsy.
One of the ketone “ingredients” is acetone. It gives you bad breath- some describe it as fruity or vinegar like. As you said, it goes away eventually. You breathe acetone out in your breath.
@@lucyburr5516 thanks for that. I’ve never measured my ketones and have often wondered whether or not my body is producing them. I have such massive health improvements since removing carbs from my diet that I’m not that fussed about actual levels of ketones.
My type 1 diabetic brother went carnivoure about 3 months ago and dropped his insulin so far to 9 units a day or less with an A1C of 5.5 in that short time. He started low carb first and would use a spoon full of allulose a half hour before a meal and his blood sugar would stay steady for several hours.
Hi Paul and Mariela Im 64 went through a heart surgery 14 years ago and been on Keto diet 2 years . My eGFR is 24 but I feek nuch better on keto. My idea is that loosing protein in the urine is like an engine burning oil, if you reduce oil supply it will explode and no more engine, so I eat normal protein. I reversed type 2 diabetes now my glucosa in the morning is near 80 no more insulin or drugs, I do take lowering pressure meds and allopurinol
I’d love to hear his thoughts on calcium now that so much info is out there saying you need vitamin k2 (mk7) along with the vitamin d in order to get the calcium from the bloodstream to the bones.
Actually one essential nutrient that plants have that meat doesn’t much of is Nitrates. Nitrates are necessary in older people 45+ becuase our bodies have trouble making N O or nitric oxide. Dark leafy greens, beets and beet root, some lettuce, or nitrate supplements. In the mouth the bacteria converts nitrates to nitrites. When this hits the stomach acid N O is released and absorbed. This is recycled back into the saliva as nitrates and it starts over until exhausted.😊.
In spite of being relatively new to carnivore. I will say just for the record, that I call carnivore a MIRACLE! Yes, with capital letter. 🙂 On my case I also use intermittent fasting. Both are absolutely fantastic "tools" for health. It's amazing how much we have been lied to.
He’s obviously wrong about constipation and people worrying about frequency and bulk. Frequency and bulk are two key issues with constipation. Psyllium husks suimrntation is well studied. It creates bulk, improve frequency and easy bowel movements.
@@redneckcoder It can all depends on the gut microbes. Though frequency is part of the issue with constipation along with inconsistent consistency/hard stools, and difficult passing.. I know others who find the opposite. Psyllium works. Its well studied via many parameters. People do worry of they don't have bowel movements and people having a movement after periods of not doing so worry less. "Many well-designed studies have shown that psyllium relieves constipation. When combined with water, it swells and produces more bulk, which stimulates the intestines to contract and helps speed the passage of stool through the digestive tract." }We found several taxa to be associated with altered GI transit, SCFAs and faecal water content in these patients. Significant increases in three genera known to produce butyrate, Lachnospira, Roseburia and Faecalibacterium, correlated with increased faecal water. In summary, psyllium supplementation increased stool water and this was associated with significant changes in microbiota, most marked in constipated patients." "The psyllium group showed improvement in constipation symptoms, body weight, glucose and lipid values compared with the baseline and the placebo group." Plums can be even better.
Go carnivore. i.e. 0 (zero) fiber and be amazed. Bowel works like a very well tuned Swiss clock! 🙂 After decades of the ridiculous "fiber speech", food pyramid, etc. I was mesmerized with the difference. No gas either. 55 years old and even had my own bio garden/veggies. The difference is night and day, literally. Best thing to do, try it and be amazed.🙂

50:25 For non-Australians, a "Doona" is like a quilt, only without the quilting. Usually has a cover, as it wouldn't survive a washing very well.

This guy is the bomb!!!
Heaven forbid we put health above emotions!!! I EXPECT my doctor to tell me when I gain weight. My HEALTH should be my doctor's #1 concern!
Good doctor, thanks
Whatever this man says I believe. Most content providers regurgitate what he says along with Dr Bikman.
