- Today we are taking a look at the excellent Ka-Bar Becker BK18 Harpoon. If you don't own one already, you should. Well under $100.00 for an American made fixed blade with a winning design, great sheath and excellent quality. A no brainer IMO.....

This is a fantastic review… thorough. Love it.
I really love mine, put on the micarta scales as I felt the oem scales were just too slippery. I while I like the oem sheath I ordered an Armatus carry kydex sheath as it gives me more carry options. I liked the Armatus so much I custom ordered sheaths for several older knives that the sheaths sucked for.
If you don't want to spend money on new scales they sell shrink tubing for fishing rod handles that will form fit and give a much better grip than what it comes with.
I own several Becker knives some have the Knife Connection handles on them, I like factory Uitramid plastic handles because they clean easy and absorb shock and I think they look good on the knife. The 1095 Cro-Van steel is one of the best on the market.
The polymer handles are tough as hell. And of course the shape is fantastic. I just can't get over the feel of the material.
Got mine with the micarta handles. Great knife!!! One of my favorites.
I love your opening line. It's BADASS.
Thank you, sir.
The little bit of vanadium gives it a finer grain structure than straight 1095, but there's not enough to give it a high volume of vanadium carbides. For me it's easy to get a ridiculously hair-popping edge polished to a mirror down to 4000 grit Edge Pro diamond.
Baz pumping out good videos. The only consistent in this jacked up world we live in.
Thank you sir. I try my best.
Cool looking knife, I've been thinking about getting a 3.5" to 4" fixed blade myself.
Do it....I double dog dare ya.
The steel is actually called Carbon V .It has nothing to do with 1095, neither a 1095 Cro Van steel exists or never existed, it's the ssme steel Cold Steel used back in the day. I prefer the BK16, because it has the proper blade for that kind of general use outdoor knife design, some times called a belt knife. That Harpoon is cool looking, but only thing it's better at, is looks. So, a good collector's piece, that's also functional, but you could be way better of witha proper outdoor knife design.
Yes....1095 Cro-Van is the same thing as Carbon V which was produced by Sharon Steel. Sharon Steel no longer exists as a company. Ka-Bar calls this steel 1095 Cro-Van and it is recognized world wide under that designation. It is a slightly modified version of 1095.
Of course there are better designs, more suited to field craft and utilitarian usage. But that takes nothing away from the BK18 design. It's a fantastic looking and very usable fixed blade.
@@BazonBlades The recipe has nothing to do with 1095 steel, It's not just the same or similar as Carbon V, It is Carbon V , Ka-Bar uses the original recipe of Carbon V, that Sharon Steel used until 1988. The composition is completely different than 1095 steel. Anything else is just marketing tricks, because people don't know much about steel, so they would sell more by advertising the inferior 1095.
Original Carbon V recipe, that Ka-Bar uses, has C, Cr, V, Ni, Mo, Mn, Si, P, S, When 1095 has only C, and Mn mainly in it's recipe. There is the modified Camilus version, but info says, that they use the original that I mentioned. I hold a degree in metallurgy since the 90's, however that doesn't mean that I'm right, I could be wrong, I just love knives too!
It’s better at stabbing
Def not an "ugly ass fighting knife". I lost my mind when you did that fighting knife bit. Hahahaha
Thank you....
Great video! Just ordered this knife after watching your review. Just curious how dying the tan micarta scales black turned out? I'd like to do the same but wondering if you have any tips or could make short vid about it. Cheers!
I liked the tan so much that I decided to not dye them black.
Just for the BK-19 and it Deformed and chipped badly 4:52 through a softwood knot. Ka bar replaced it but very disappointed
your knife is using german steel, thats why it does not say olean n.y. usa,, i have an older usa steel and fing love it!
Good for you. I'm sure your family and friends are very proud of you.
BK18 has a new name..BK street cred lol!! Killer blade&killer vid knife bro!!
M-F'n Street Cred.....
nice look at the BK18 ! great design...I've had the tan for a while...all around useful blade !!!..Carbon-V; Cro-Van; to-mah-to; tomato 🤣
Yeah, I'm a little lost as to what the big deal is. But apparently the distinction is super duper important to some people.
Did you change the scales out on your 18?
@@BazonBlades not on this tan one...I've changed a couple of my 'larger' BK's for better grip; but this BK18 in 'tan' is fine for me...the handle,( coke bottle shape) seems very secure on this smaller blade...I really like the blade drop below the fingers..great work/camp/food prep friendly...have a good one...hot as he** in middle Tn. :-) .
I.m waiting mine with great unpatience !!! Salutations.pierro.
There’s street cred here bro. I’ve got to have one.
Check the SMKW link I have pinned. They have the black for $69.99 right now.

Just out of curiosity....How is this one crap?
Sorry, lost interest around 55seconds,,

Honestly, I think 55 seconds is an improvement on my average view time.....
