I love me 450 four but I got to tell you, I looked at the YZ 250 two stoke yesterday and it was like half the weight as my 450. That got me really wanting to add a 250 two to the stable.
Hmm... remind me about the victorious days of my legendary 2004 Yamaha YZ 250 2 stroke. Fully custom n ride so smooth n fast. The sounds are killing. My Yamaha is badass... Nobody can beat it in the extreme trail.

No one has corner speed save the top factory guys anymore, everyone hammers into a turn, locks up the wheel and loses all momentum but there is no penalty cos your on a 450cc Open class bike in a stadium and boom, you just cleared a 50 triple. That aint racing when Pros are reduced to using amateur techniques.
AMA really needs an unlimited class supercross were mechanics can build whatever bike they can handle just to see how high these teams can truly reach.

FMF Fatty. It's a low to midrange pipe. GTYR pipe is made by FMF you know. The magazines just did a pipe review and Pro Circuit makes the top horse power. All the power is up top, where 2 strokes make their peak horsepower. But if your trail riding I can attest to the Fatty. my CR250 can chug to almost nothing without stalling. of course flawless jetting helps :-p
Thats a track set up where ur gonna be on the pipe all the time. But all of it works, on tight trails you'll be clutching more. The Fatty adds a little down low but doesn't peak as high as the PC pipe. All depends where u ride I guess. Enjoy.
And after all those thousands spent.... The motor is now up to KTM standard. -_- I'm of hte belief that the 2006 onwards YZ range are, in both of their categories, one of the best motocross bikes ever made. But I simply refuse to pay full price for a nearly 10 year old bike. so when it came time to decide on a brand new cycle, I went orange. A reaccuring theme.
2 strokes are superior ( AMA handicap rule needs to go away ) The Carbon footprint of all global supercross bikes is tiny.. And I dare to say that it may be ( the 4 strokes ) that have the higher overall carbon footprint when you factor in production, rebuilds, oil cahnges, and less overall volumetric efficiency per unit of power.. Which is why 4 strokes need almost double the displacement for a given amount of power.. The fun factor on a 2 strokes is just the greatest thing.. Not the same experience ( for me ) when on a 4 stroke
I know that the big 5 have the power to pop these 2 strokes. Even if the R&D reaches a climax on the 2 Strokes, i think that there should be a 2 stroke class for pros. The poor guys operating the smoke machines at supercross races need a break to let the riders ease their workload
4 strokes have pretty reliable torque off the bottom and are a scotch easier to ride. I ask my dad this same question everyday. I wish 2 strokes would come back!
