Small displacement, bikes, are a gas. I turned a Yamaha HS1B, which is a 90cc twin cylinder 2 stroke into a cafe racer. Shaved the heads, cut the pistons, ported. Built rear sets out of 1/2 inch water pipe with shift linkage and cable operated rear brake. Dropped Clip on bars. It would pull to almost 12,000 rpm before it would go flat. That thing was so much fun. It would throw a ring about once a month. The big bikes would eat me alive down the straight and I would blast by in the Twisties. Loved that little thing. 😂
I'm 53 and 6"3 and I still enjoy taking out a big wheel KX85 I actually still enjoy constant gear shifts, braking etc. I'll never be fat or cruise around on a four stroke 450.

Absolutely fabulous racing from start to finish, well done Max, Sean, Steve, and Roland you worked you're magic on yz , thanks Max and you're team for the top quality videos.
I started out on a fourstroke quad when I was 13. But I always loved the sound and smell of a twostroke. Years later I got a 98 YZ250 when I was 21. That bike plus a bunch of Kawie stand up Jet Skis set in motion this passion I've had ever since. There's nothing like the sound or smell of a 2 smoke that doesn't give me chills and an instant hit of nostalgia. I'll ride a smoke till I choke!
Back in Jr High school, my buddy got a brand New 1993' KX80! That Thing was an official ripper! I had a Yamaha Blaster, a Honda Trail 70, and a 5hp gocart.. NOTHING I have had or even ridden had a Powerband like that little KX80! THEY were fast back then, I can't imagine how much fun they are to ride Now?! 😂

You guys took a cool idea for a video and screwed up every bit of it. Your “avg joe” is your test track rider, the 85 has been tweaked so we have no benchmark for the power out there, we didn’t even start neck and neck so we had a real idea of the difference. You guys really screwed this one up, boys
Super astonishing race! Bit if the weekend warrier would have been a warrior at the last 4 corners of the race, he would have won. But the 85 and its pro rider with at least 12kg balast on his ribs, did a very good show! Very nice to watch as summer weekend entrance video
It is so obvious that some tire brand made it its leitmotiv : power is nothing without control. Very fun to watch, I followed the last lap with my butt inconsciously moving on my seat, like it would on a bike.
At almost 80 kilos, and anticipating my first social security to land in my NE ohio us mailbox, seriously considering a kx112 Really enjoy this channel!
That was fantastic. As an ex 80s racer, it's almost easier to wind up an 80 to speed and hold it than to have to brake a big bike. I never got over leaving minis.

I did… it’s was amazing, and I rode a yz85, the smell of two stroke and bacon sandwiches at the weekend
Well stated
I can only thank you for this video, I have always ridden speed bikes and I wanted to start with motocross, I am a light and very short rider and the height of a dirt bike for adults without having experience could be a problem to start with, coincidentally I I came across your video and... now I have a 2020 Husqvarna TC 85 and in a few weeks my first visit to the circuit.
Thank you
Thanks and welcome to the most awesome sport on the planet :)
Love that sound! Getting a CR80 done for my son so we can hear the music!
Absolutely true. Been racing amateur for 40 years. Still have 85 pros blowing by me. Insane skills I never quite got to.
Aah, the sound of a small 2 stroke engine, brings back memories from the late 90’s and early 00’s when i competed with my kx80😊
awesome,thanks for watching:)
I got a 73 YZ 80 in 76 and loved that bike. Great vid!!!
Thanks for watching Johnny :-D
Good to see a blue 85 ripping instead of one of those orange things 😅
In my opinion these are by far the nicest looking 85s out there!
Yup
Why is that? KTM has carried the 2t torch for over a decade now.
I was on the edge my seat on the final lap. Great idea for a race and super cool!!
Had several bikes in my lifetime, but my favorite will always be me YZ80 back in the late 70s!
Bailed hay, shoveled manure for 15 months, bought a new 1978 RM80c. Thought is was quickest thing in the universe.

Wonderful! I always thought that the old YZs were the fastest and the RMs were the TOUGHEST! :)
Such a fantastic race to watch. The two stroke soundtrack is great and i suspect Mr.Talent hasnt ridden quite like that for a while.
Epic!
That was fun to watch, literally had me on the edge of my seat……
I'm 53 and 6"3 and I still enjoy taking out a big wheel KX85
I actually still enjoy constant gear shifts, braking etc. I'll never be fat or cruise around on a four stroke 450.
That was cool! Love the sound of a 2-stroke at full song. But I'm about as interested in the specs on the drone used. The drone footage was the best part.
Absolutely brilliant riding 👌🏼
Thanks for watching:)
Go the 85 , great fun little machines , I'm a light rider and still love mine at 51 years old. Can't beat that 2 stroke feel.
Absolutely fabulous racing from start to finish, well done Max, Sean, Steve, and Roland you worked you're magic on yz , thanks Max and you're team for the top quality videos.
Thanks Kevin, really appreciate you checking in as usual :)
Great race guys. I grew up on dirt bikes. That screaming song takes me back down a long dirt road.
It's not the plane, it's the pilot.
Very true! Thanks for watching dude :-D
Yup
amazing video, had smile at the end thx guys
Always the rider. 👋 awesome video guys 🤙🏻
Thanks:)
Fantastic video! Sure do miss that 2 stroke sound! Was a pretty neat race
Effin' awesome video! Yea Yamaha!
Nothing could prepare me for the Powerband of that KX! I whiskey throttled it on more than one occasion! 😂 Since then I've had many 125's, a couple 250's and even a 95' CR500! NOTHING I have had or even ridden had a Powerband like that little KX80! THEY were fast back then, I can't imagine how much fun they are to ride Now?! 😂
That was a lot of fun and a great production! Thanks for this!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Some epic racing at the end ❤
it was awesome to watch, cheers :)
@999lazer Awesome video guys, happy to help out and was amazing to see Steve attacking those corners! It was a great race 👊✊💨
Cheers Guys, Thanks for the loan, the GasGas was awesome. Sean has some photos from the day to give you :)
That was plain awesome, thanks..
Thanks, really appreciate your comment :)
Both did great what a great race to watch!
I wanna see a class for adults racing 85s at World Championship level. C'mon FIM....
Ha! Great fun.....especially well done to Shaun who is faster than the vast majority of riders..good for you mate...wouldve been interesting to see how quick he was on the little un...i bet he wouldnt be much quicker on the 4t...corner speed info wouldve been interesting..well done fellas
Thanks 👍
SPOILER a 85 isn't just for kids . I love riding a 85
That was friggin Awesome! Well done to both riders, you guys ripped it out there! Love hearing that 2 stroke sing. Reminds me when i got beat by some young kid on an 85 and i was riding a kx(real kx) 250. No offense to the non smokers but i love 2 strokes. Great job again guys!
Glad you enjoyed it Charles :)
Now let’s see the same race but swap bikes
I loved the commentary. This felt like a proper live race on TV.
Thanks for taking the time to watch! Glad you enjoyed it! :-)
You guys took a cool idea for a video and screwed up every bit of it. Your “avg joe” is your test track rider, the 85 has been tweaked so we have no benchmark for the power out there, we didn’t even start neck and neck so we had a real idea of the difference. You guys really screwed this one up, boys
I raced Novice on a YZ250 in Englishtown, my friend on CR125 kept up with me on the track, its true, its all about the rider!
Now imagine how fast that 85 would be with a top 85 rider on board weighing half as much (no offence)
Was thinking the same, guy certainly wouldn't have been close wirh me at 14yrs old on either my CR85 or CR85Expert i used in 125 schoolboy class
Super astonishing race! Bit if the weekend warrier would have been a warrior at the last 4 corners of the race, he would have won. But the 85 and its pro rider with at least 12kg balast on his ribs, did a very good show! Very nice to watch as summer weekend entrance video
Most fun vid I've seen today! I was smiling all the way long! :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
fair play clarkey was flatout, big shoutout to sean! great race and cotent lads!
I had a YZ80 as a kid. This made me smile.
It is so obvious that some tire brand made it its leitmotiv : power is nothing without control. Very fun to watch, I followed the last lap with my butt inconsciously moving on my seat, like it would on a bike.
The amount of skill it would take to overcome the power difference between these two bikes.... unreal!!! What a race!!!!!
That was awesome! Had a smile on my face the whole race, I don't think that 85 dropped below 75,000 rpms the whole race :)
Great fun to watch. Thank you all. x
I enjoyed this immensely! Super cool, great ride from both of these riders. Well done!
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@999lazer Thank you man. 👍
One of the best videos I’ve seen. Smiling the whole way through. Get em zinger
I raced a YZ80 modified in 1980...it would routinely pass 125cc motorbikes down the straightaway during lap practices. Was wicked fast.
At almost 80 kilos, and anticipating my first social security to land in my NE ohio us mailbox, seriously considering a kx112
Really enjoy this channel!
That was fantastic. As an ex 80s racer, it's almost easier to wind up an 80 to speed and hold it than to have to brake a big bike. I never got over leaving minis.
