    It took me two years to figure out how to use my prescription without my face falling off, I figured it was only fair to pass on that knowledge so others could get results without the side effects. What were your experiences?

      I am an old person with very good skin.But I live in a country with a lot of sun.It almost always sunny here.So I used prescription retinol only in the winter months ,for many years every other night.I had peeling , I was wearing very minimal make up and I believe that it was allright for me.Now I rarely peel.And I still use my acids in the winter months.That's all.I hope you 'll have the same results as me.Nobody guesses my age.It is very funny

      @@castadivanorma8478 That is a great point, you of course need to adapt your retinoid strategy to the climate you live in. Here in Germany the sun is pretty moderate all year round, so I don’t need to stop using it in the summer time.
      And congrats to having such great success, a good routine pays off in the long run.

    Great video!! I started my Tretinoin journey about 8 months ago at the age of 39 and it has been quite a ride but well worth it. When I first started I was using Tretinoin every third night and I would buffer it where I would cleanse my face, apply niacinamide, apply moisturizer and wait about half an hour or so. Then I would go and apply my Tretinoin and wait another 20min to half an hour and then I would apply the moisturizer again on top of Tretinoin. Also, right before I went to bed I would put some Aquaphor on my face just to seal everything in. I did that for about a month then I went to using it every other night and now I don’t have to wait all that time in between I can just apply niacinamide, moisturizer then Tretinoin. I would only wait a bit to put another layer over the Tretinoin as I want to give it some time to kind of sink in. I also tried using it on bare skin without anything and I was fine compared to how bad I was peeling at the beginning. The only thing that I notice is some faint redness the morning after the Tretinoin around my mouth but it goes away within an hour or so. I also want to mention that throughout my entire journey I kept using my vitamin C and peptides. I hope that this helps someone but honestly if you stick it out and put up with some horrible peeling and irritation like I have it will be so worth it. With that being said, you don’t have to go through all the peeling or irritation if you do what I have been doing because at the very beginning I went straight to using it once every other day without buffer just straight on dry skin and it took me some time to find out what works as I had to do a lot of research and digging around but overall give it a try and I hope it works for you.

    My skin can tolerate to 0.05 % tretinoin. My steps are after face wash - nicinamide serum (wait 20mims) - tretinoin cream (wait 1 hours) - moisturizer. I know that medicine should be applied first but i had tried to apply tretinoin cream first and wait an hour then apply serum, it was kind a mess because i get creamy from tretinoin cream that mixed with the serum. It was like harder for serum to be absorbed to the skin. What should i do, Dr. Anne i need your help. please correct me.
    one more question- Does tretinoin will be degraded by artificial lights, indoor light, if i don't turn off the light and go to bed right after apply tretinoin cream?

    • @DoctorAnne
      @DoctorAnne  4 роки тому +6

      There is no harm in applying the niacinamide first and then the tretinoin. And Tretinoin is sensitive to light, but that is mainly the UV light, and it won’t degrade within minutes. If you put it on in the evening, the artificial light won’t have a noticeable effect. Just don’t slather it on and go to the beach 😉

I’m using it for acne and then I still break out so I also use a 10% benzoyl peroxide face wash. I have multiple serums, oils, creams, toners. But I feel like the more I try to tackle the acne the worst it gets. • @DoctorAnne
      @DoctorAnne  3 роки тому +1

      It usually isn´t irritation in terms of breakouts, that is most likely purging, which happens because all the pimples that are waiting to develop come to the surface at once. The slower you introduce the Tretinoin, the less likely this is to appear, but you need to be consistent to get the results.
      Mask wearing often aggravates acne, I feel you on that. My suggestion would be to strip back most of your other skincare and just introduce the Tretinoin slowly. It usually needs at least six weeks to get results.

There is little to no place for antibiotics for acne. Maybe there are exceptions but I had mild to moderate as a kid and certainly shouldn't have been offered them.

      @@supgizmo5021 Naturally a surgeon has a different outlook on antiniotics use than a dermatologist has. There are many people involved in writing the guidelines, and while I agree that there are many options to treat acne where an antibiotic is needed, I would recommend listening to the dermatologists rather than the surgeons when it comes to these guidelines.
      An important reason for antibiotic resistance is the widespread use in animals to make up for poor living conditions on animal farms. Does that mean that misusing antibiotics in humans isn't a big deal? Absolutely not. But unnecessary antibiotics are very common in different medical fields, including surgery, and I am afraid the antibiotic resistance theme is often used to shame people using antibiotics to treat their acne. Again, not saying I disagree with you on that, I just want to point out that it is a very complex topic.

    StriVectin cream which is supposed to be for stretch marks and wrinkles it's key ingredient is niacin-mide and peptides, will this be okay to use with tretinoin, or should it be used apart like_ tretinoin at night and StriVectin cream during the day with a sunscreen on top of course?🙄🙂 Thanks by the way for your informative video wish you were my real dermatologist and I hope you can answer my questions soon. 🙏❤️

    Hello Dr Anne, I'm just starting with tretinoin 0.03% for antiaging. While waiting for my prescription (it's a compounded formula with 10% niacinamide), I was using Retinal from Geek & Gorgeous A Game 5 for about 5 weeks (gradual introduction), on dry skin (and then, half an hour later, moisturizer).
    But I'm so scared of tretinoin that I started with the sandwich method now (first week: once, 2nd week, twice). I even put some vaseline on my eye contour, corners of my mouth, sides of the nose just in case. I have sensitive & reactive skin prone to eczema, so that's why I'm over cautious. I didn't notice anything at all, though, would you try applying the tretinoin on dry skin and see what happens? I just want to avoid having a bad reaction and having to give up the tretinoin, but maybe I'm exaggerating now with what I'm doing.

      I don't think there is a problem in taking things slow. The worst that could happen is that it takes you longer to work your way up to the full doseage, and that is much better than having a reaction. Especially as we are heading into winter now, when the skin is more reactive.

    • @DoctorAnne

      I recommend the moisturizer and SPF you prefer, but for the order to apply things in: Tretinoin always is applied at night, so don´t pair it with SPF, which goes on in the mornings. And for the moisturizer: That depends on if you want to "buffer" the Tretinoin or not. If not, Treinoin goes first and the moistuizer (if needed) goes on 10 minutes later.

    I've been using tretinoin for years as a prescribed acne treatment and even today I prefer using 0.025% every night, 30 minutes after cleansing and moisturizing. This minimizes irritation. It also means that it's not a big deal if I accidentally apply too much, while at a higher strength I risk a few days of irritation with that accident. Research has demonstrated that the strength of tretinoin isn't important with long term use, so there really is no reason to go up in strength unless you aren't seeing results I guess. Maybe for anti-aging the strength is more important, though with long term use I am guessing the results even out. Tretinoin is a true holy grail for me. I don't want to ever have to stop using it! I get anxiety when I think about not having access to it 😂

    • @DoctorAnne
      @DoctorAnne  4 роки тому +1

      With Tretinoin the most important thing is to find your individual sweet spot instead of always aiming for the highest strength, you are absolutely right there. 0,025% used daily and consistently is much better than 0,05% that you can’t use because of irritation.

    Hallo, wieder mal ein sehr hilfreiches und tolles Video. Mich reizt tretinoin auch und ich überlege mir es von meiner Ärztin verschreiben zu lassen. Ich nutze retinol schon seit Jahren, retinal auch schon länger. Möchte mich aber da langsam steigern. Ich hab mir überlegt mal mit der niedrigsten Konzentration sehr langsam anzufangen. Muss man es dann überhaupt auf jeden Tag steigern um den vollen anti aging Effekt zu erzielen? Ich nutze retinal jetzt auch so 3x die Woche und dachte es auch bei tretinoin dann auf 3x die Woche zu belassen sobald ich es sehr langsam in meine Routine eingefügt habe. Nein, muss man nicht, aber das ist nur meine Meinung. Das Problem ist ja, das man die "volle Antiaging-Wirkung" ja nur sehr schlecht messen kann, also sind die generellen Empfehlungen die einer täglichen Anwendung. Es gibt aber auch Stimmen, die sagen, ab 3 mal pro Woche steigert sich der Benefit nicht mehr stark, dass wäre auch schon ausreichend. Im Endeffekt muss da glaube ich jeder seinen persönlichen "sweet spot" finden, ich bin zufrieden mit 4-5 mal pro Woche.

      Tretinoin has more side effects than Adapalene, so I would recommend you try Adapalene again if you want to introduce a retinoid. If that is to strong for you, try a retinol. I would recommend you talk to the people at the place you go to for laser hair removal and your prescribing doctor about that. In general you should be cautious with combining them though.

      @@videoclipman So I guess there is your answer. How many laser hair removal sessions do you have left? Maybe it would be wise to start your RetinA afterwards.
