23:54 The Final Fantasy VII + VIII compilation for Switch was also officially released in Europe. I bought it here in Spain when it released a few years ago for 18€.
Minor Correction! The Dreamcast Collection for 360 has Sonic Adventure without the DX dlc upgrade. The Battle dlc that Coury mentions is for Sonic Adventure 2, which doesn't come with the Dreamcast Collection.
My favorite compilations of all time are the Kingdom Hearts collections. It’s so satisfying having the entire series on one platform after a decade of the series being spread across different handhelds.
If there's one compilation that really stands out to me in gaming, it's the original Super Mario All-Stars for SNES, containing 16-bit remakes of the original 8-bit Mario games for the NES, including a merciless Mario game that never previously got localized: Lost Levels. Capcom also had their own SMAS: Mega Man: The Wily Wars for Sega Genesis.
Wily Wars is hot garbage due to it's borked walking animation. There's like a weird startup animation frame that holds for 2-3 in-game frames, making every single ground movement feel laggy, ruining these tight, tough games
@@aortaplatinum I do like the fact that once you complete the three games you get a 4th option on the game selection screen which is completely new content specifically for the Wily Wars, called Wily Tower, which allows you to use a selection of every sub weapon from across the three games in it and has unique bosses also exclusive to it.
4:31 Apparently the Japanese cartridge has a version of Operation C compatible with the Super Gameboy, featuring its own set of colors distinct from Europe's Gameboy Color version. I remember reading that some fans of Operation C prefer the color choices in the Super Gameboy over the GBC version.
[Try4ce] That's a good point! I should try that! I often prefer Super Game Boy myself. I bet the Euro versions might fall back into that mode too, I'll have to check.
In Brazil, Tectoy released 10 Super Games in 1997 or so for the Mega Drive, it's basically 6-Pak with California Games, Sega Soccer, Flicky and Super Hang-on, it was still an appealing cartridge even then. Shinobi, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Sonic 1 and Columns are popular enough, the cartridge only lacks a RPG so it would cover basically all main genres.
Midway Arcade Treasures was my most played ps2 game by far, and arguably lead to my love of gaming history with the way they included docs and facts about these classic games. Now we have stuff like the SNK classic collection and fpga, I can’t believe the wealth!
I got my Mega Drive about 10 years ago from its first owner. It came with 6 cartridges and 2 of them were the 6 in 1 and 3 in 1. Here in South Africa, the Sega Mega Drive was crazy expensive, probably because of the British Pound to South African Rand exchange rate since all our Mega Drives were from the UK. And these combo game carts made the deal more digestible.
Interesting. Meanwhile in London I had a SNES very early on and one of my cousins had a Megadrive. We loved it when he brought it over or we went over to his. Fast forward to the PS2, I got some sweet Sega collections for games which were still fun then.
Nowadays I find myself going back to original hardware versions (except for proper remasters and remakes). But this video will be a good reference for good compilations! Thanks!
Now that GoldenEye 007 is part of it, the Rare Replay Collection is probably my all-time favorite and a must-own. Just insanely fantastic all told. If a magic copyright busting genie said "you have one wish to add a single game to any collection" I'd just add Donkey Kong 64 to it and it would be the single most perfect collection of games imaginable.

This was a fun exploration of the various compilations over the years! A notable one that Sega did for the Saturn was the Sega Ages USA compilation. It features perhaps the best port of Outrun ever made. 60 FPS mode and supports full analog steering and full analog gas and brake, which makes it easy to use with a racing wheel (looking forward to this on the MiSTer core when further peripheral support is added.) Afterburner II and Space Harrier are included on the same disk and have analog/Mission Stick compatibility also. The Taito Legends compilations also rock.
SEGA Ages titles already got a fair amount of coverage over the years, actually the individual Saturn Sega Japanese Ages title releases are the superior versions AFAICR.

Aw man! No Namco Battle Collection love? That one was great on PSP! one of the few arcade compilations to have its own version of TATE mode as a screen mode. So awesome!

Gunblade is probably one of the last arcade memories I had as a teenager. Bowling alley had a really nice arcade and my friends and I would go to it in our pre-college and pre-21 days. I only played Gunblade a handful of times, but it had this bass system that really made you feel like you were weilding that massive machine gun while on the helicopter. I was so happy to be able to re-experience some of that in surround sound. Time Crisis 2, Crazy Taxi and Crisis Zone were probably the last real arcade games I got to play before 'the arcade' became filled with those $1-$2 per 2-3 minute Raw Thrills rail-games.
I'd love to see a look at those bootleg compilation carts that plagued every system. You know, the ones with outlandishly high games advertised, like "333 Games in One!" and it's covered with pictures of games that may or may not be in the collection, or even on that console. I think it'd be a fascinating retrospective, especially if you poked around and tried to play some of the dubious entries.
I love compilations especially the ones released during the PS2/XBox era like the Capcom Classics Collections and Midway Arcade Treasures (especially MAT 3, which had a generous 4 ports of late 1990s arcade racing games, two of which are based on the Dreamcast versions, plus the untextured polygon Race Drivin' and S.T.U.N. Runner and a couple of overhead racing games). I was thinking about getting the Sega Genesis 6-Pak specifically for Streets of Rage and Revenge of Shinobi, which I don't have on cartridge and which I can't play on the Genesis Mini either (yeah, I know they're both on the Mini 2 but having to order it from Amazon Japan with intercontinental shipping to Canada put it well out of my price range for what I feel like paying to play 16-bit games legitimately). I actually do "own" both of those games on the Sega Classics Compilation CD-ROM that came with my Sega CD unit but my Sega CD hasn't worked in years. I also like pinball compu=ilations, I have both the Williams and the Gottlieb Pinball Hall of Fame collections for PS2 and some tables on Steam.
I really like the various collections on PSP since they all offer some sort of "pixel perfect" mode. I'm still trying to dial in the settings for playing them on a TV with the OSSC Pro though...
The Mega Man compilations are great and definitely deserve their own episode. The one I'd like to see covered the most is the Midway Arcade Treasures on all the systems, and how the PSP version is the best version cause it plays the Mortal Kombat games at the native 400x254 resolutions.
Late in the PS1's life over here in PAL land there were a bunch of double pack games including the two Medal of Honor games packed together and Tekken 2 packed with Soul Blade. My favourite is probably Wipeout 3 Special Edition and Destruction Derby 2 though. The version of Wipeout 3 here is a rare version that has more tracks, balancing changes etc etc etc. There was a great charity compilation called 'HELP' too which has Road Rash, Broken Sword and Myst. I think we got a bunch more 'Mega Games' compilations for the Mega Drive too. I love the SNK collections on the Wii (Arcade Collection, KoF and Samurai Shodown) as this was my first chance of playing games I'd only played on the NGPC before such as Neo Turf Masters and Samurai Shodown. I think these may have been 480i though (as were the PS2 Capcom collections if I'm remembering correctly). Metroid Prime Trilogy is great although I have a sneaky feeling it will be ported soon or made semi-redundant. My favourite recent collections are the two NGPC collections on the Switch, as well as the amazing 'Samurai Shodown NeoGeo Collection' and 'SNK 40th Anniversary Collection'. The 'Sega 3D Classics Collection' on 3DS is amazing too... just wish we got all volumes. Don't think I'll ever get over that! There's the 'Journey Collector's Edition' which comes with Journey, Flow and Flower as well as some early prototype style games. Not sure if these are on the disc itself though as they seem to download directly on to the system when you insert the disc. Deathsmiles I+II is interesting just for a chance to see what II was all about (not much, stick with the first game!!)
I bought a Switch for one game in particular (star ocean 2nd story r), but I find the amount of switch collections pretty sweet. I've got a bunch of the shmup collections (darius, rayz, the m2 combos), and I've been scooping up the konami and capcom collections as they come out. Hope to see a DS castlevania collection at some point and hopefully more SNK collections too. 😎
I think Arcade’s Greatest Hits: Atari Collection 1 on PS1 and Midway Arcade Treasures on PS2 are worthy of a look. They’re great early examples of Digital Eclipse going above and beyond by adding documentary-like interviews and supplementary materials in a way they’d really perfect with Atari 50
34:19 The NES version of Pac-Man Championship Edition actually began life as a ROMhack developed by Coke774, before he was approached by Namco mid-development to turn it into an official release that came as part of this compilation. It also uses the N163 mapper: two channels for music and two for sound effects. (the other four go unused due to a design issue with the N163’s mixer that causes bigger sound aliasing issues the more channels you use)
I used to really enjoy the various collections during the 5th and 6th generations. The Namco Museum and Sonic Mega Collection stand out fondly for me. Over time, I've slowly started to dislike them, especially in the modern era, as they're usually riddled with vast amounts of input lag, bad video filtering, and/or sound issues. I tend to gravitate towards original hardware (or Mister/FPGA equivalent) unless the game was completely reworked for the new target platform. There are some amazing exceptions like the various M2 Shottriggers releases. If anybody is into shmups/bullet hell they should definitely check out some of the Cave ports the M2 Shottriggers team did for Switch and PS4.
I just beat FF7 for the first time on the 7/8 combo cart. I love how many multicarts are coming out for the switch, I just wish they came out in the US, its hard to track them as is
Great video guys!! Reminds of your older videos. Ideas for future series: 1) more compilation video game analysis 2) Game port analysis for best version Keep it up❤
Some of my favorites are the Namco Museum series, Midway Arcade Treasures and Sega Arcade Gallery. I discovered them just as I was getting into retro gaming and they really fueled my interest in gaming history.
Feel like the chances of Yakuza 1+2 HD being translated would be way higher if the Kiwamis didn't exist. Although maybe they could just graft those translations on
A lot of people hate on remasters and remakes, but I'm always hoping for more! I really miss a lot of forgotten greats. I bought a new fat PS2 and added to my collection. Eventually I'd like to build my first PC, emulate, and have modded consoles to play all other platforms aside from PS5 that I own.
One of my favorite series of collections is the konami double packs on GBA, which includes the TMNT, Yu-Gi-Oh, Yu-Gi-Oh 2, and Castlevanie double packs. The Castlevania one is especially of note since it includes both Harmony of Dissonance and Aria of Sorrow on one cart, which are both some of the GBAs finest and more expensive games.
Dragon Quest 1 and 2's GBC port was an utterly wonderful way to play through the first game. Just started 2 and it's also really nice, but some may prefer the SNES port for that one due to the size of it all Also, Apollo Justice's HD sprites are super good, way better done than the original trilogy's (though those aren't bad in their current form)
One of my favorite multi-game compilations has to be the Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX collection on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It has 4 full games, with updated textures and quality of life updates. They're also localized versions of the formerly Japanese exclusive final mix versions (at least for 1, 2, and Birth By Seep). I mention the PS4 collection over the PS3 versions because the PS4 version increases the frame rate to a consistent 60 fps AND it fixes the weird long loading issues that plagued the PS3 versions (especially the PS3 version of 2 and Birth By Sleep). The collection also features movie-like cutscene collections for the two DS games. Plus, when you beat the games/watch the movies you get PS4 themes based around the individual titles. The only way I could like it more is if they included some sort of museum feature.
For my time and money, the Mega Man collections, Capcom Collection Vol. 1 and 2, and Taito Legends 2 still spend the most time in my consoles as far as compilations. From Capcom Vol. 1 with all the Ghosts n Goblins games and somewhat early Capcom arcade games, to the amazing Vol. 2 with so many different great games, and such special extras like the arcade game Quiz and Dragons(I believe it's called), but there's a special mode on the disc where all the questions are Capcom trivia. I spent way too much time testing my Capcom knowledge when I found that mode.
Coury, you said that you wonder if Sonic 1 is the mosr rereleased of all time. Yeah I would think so too. I also think namco museum is up there. I think namco museum is on almost every platform.
When you mentioned Namco Museum on the PS1 I thought you were going to jump to the Namco Anthology releases! You really gotta get the second one Coury, it has an incredible sequel-make of Valkyrie with beautiful 32-bit pixel art.
Two of the Taiko no Tatsujin games for 3DS which previously were not released outside Japan, were bundled in the Rhythmic Adventure Pack for current systems, emphasizing that they had RPG story modes. Although this was first done in the 3rd DS game and the 1st 3DS game was not re-released, this is still really cool. It's kind of a weird re-release since this games are usually considered replaceable like most rhythm games, many of the DLC songs were removed, a few new songs were added to keep them in line with current viral Jpop and anime songs, and most egregiously removed multiplayer entirely. I really like the song selection tho, probably because that was the era I got into the series and into anime, so it's the only one I own aside from the original US PS2 version since it is its own amazing can of worms. These were available individually digitally, as a single download, and on cartridge in Japan and Europe. Since it wasn't released physically in the US, Rhythm Festival became the first in the series to get a physical US release since the original attempt on PS2
I'd love to see more videos on game compilation in the future! And then, after making a bunch of those episodes, you could make a compilation episode of your game compilation episodes! And maybe even through in some extra goodies like behind the scenes, editor interviews, and concept art!
Great episode! I’m looking forward to the compilations that “we’ll talk about in a later episode or ones that require it’s own episodes”. Like the Mega Mans and the Konami collections etc etc
Game and Watch Gallery 2 was my first Game Boy game! I wanted Super Mario Bros Deluxe but my mom went for the "value" of the compilation. I was very disappointed by the simple short games at the time, but absolutely adored its gorgeous sprite work and sound.
This was fun to watch. I truly enjoyed all of the game collections presented. I will say the Sega collection games were my favorite from the segment. I wish there was a release to modern console of Quartet arcade version.
You definitely need to include Taito Legends in the next video. There are different versions seperated by two regions. For International, we only got two versions of Taito Legend whilst in Japan, they have four versions called Taito Memories and each individual version contain exclusive arcade games that you cannot find in other versions.
Great video! I can see this being a fun series of sorts. Soooooo many compilations released over the years. Surprised you didn't mention Ys I&II Coury!
Great idea for a video! Amazed that a Mega Drive game came out in 1997. Owned so many of these compilations. Really wish Sega would make some new ones for the Switch, I really want Crazy Taxi!

13:00 I thought I was going crazy trying to access 2 player mode in Golden Axe on my Mega Drive 'Mega Games 6' compilation. I honestly thought the second controller port was broken .
Minor Correction: Dungeons & Dragons Chronicles of Mystara also released on Wii U, though it is impossible to get that version nowadays due to the Eshop being shut down on there. Also, SNK has some of my favorite compilations, like the Metal Slug Anthology and the 2 Neo Geo Pocket Color Selection compilations.
Fun fact. The Loading times of the enhanced 16bits final fantasy games on ps1 are much better on PAL systems. Can you believe there's no physical home console version of chrono trigger in PAL regions though?
One other comapny to look into for multigame compilations is NIS AMERICA. they have done a few of them for sometime now. A few notable ones like Hyperdimension Neptunia Hypercollection ( EU ) , The Arland Atelier Trilogy ( NA ), and The Disgaea Triple play collection.
26:00 I got curious about this Wii comp. a few years ago, it's definitely using the Virtual Console emulator with the compilation's interface tacked on.
I hope capcom makes another ghost n goblins collection because I want to play Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection but refuse to financially support digital only games.
OMG i've always been so confused about the Game and Watch Gallery australian release and never bothered to look it up. i just knew in the back of my head that I had 2 and would always get confused more recently when looking at the games lists. such a weird little side tangent but i really appreciate it ! lol
You left out 2 cool GameBoy collections: Bomberman Collection & Genjin Collection. Bomberman Collection: Include the Japanese versions of Bomber Boy, Bomberman GB and Bomberman GB2 (with the last 2 being compatible with the SNES multitap for 4 players with the Super GameBoy). Genjin Collection is a collection of the Japanese 3 Bonk games: Bonk's Adventure, Bonk's Revenge and GB Genjin Land: Viva! Chikkun Oukoku.
In regards to Gradius III and IV: while yes Gradius III runs at the same rez as its arcade version, Gradius IV is a bit different. It runs on the Konami Horner hardware, which uses a strange 24khz type resolution (I believe 512×384) only supported by "middle resolution" arcade monitors. So what they did is effectively put the game window in a 512×448 frame and run it in interlaced mode.
[Try4ce] Heck yeah, the last game that needed an official English translation! I just finished Great Ace Attorney 2 a couple of days ago too! So, Investigations 2 is the last one I haven't finished (though I haven't done the DLC cases from 5 and 6).
Yes yes yes, do other ones! My shout out would be Metal Slug Anthology on the Wii I believe? And Metal Slug collections. Also the Yakuza box/collection that came out like 2 years ago with almost EVERY YAKUZA game in a boxset ? Well except Yakuza 7/Like a dragon (and doesn't include Ishin remake, 7 Gaiden and now Infinite Wealth since those 3 came after the release of that boxset)
Isn't that the remastered collection with 3-5? So it's not every and those re-releases are kind of a mixed bag in gamplay, especially for 3, making it way worse
Metal Slug Anthology actually released for a LOT of different platforms, all of the Neo Geo games can be played on current-gen hardware in some form or another
Woah. You just reminded me that gunblade ny exists. I remember an acrcade attached to a bouncy house place we used to go to had this game (arcade version) and it was probably. The 2nd biggest game there (next to the skiball machine) and it was allways a treat when i got to play it
Hmm, weird that Taito Legends and Midway Arcade Classics didn't make the cut. Especially both PS2 Taito Legends volumes are ridiculously good. The PSP versions are a bit less, still great.
@15:00 I don't know if Sonic is the most re-released game of all time, but i'm 99.9 positive the most ported game of all time is Prince of Persia, closely followed by Doom.
I'll throw this one in: Maximum Underground. Max Payne 1 and the original Mafia, $20. It was the only method I could find to purchase Max Payne at the time, and I fell in love with Mafia because of it.
I really gotta get Namco Museum if for not other reason than to get Valkyrie. For some bizarre reason, the Project X Zone games made Valkyrie a prominent side character and it's always made me curious.
23:54 The Final Fantasy VII + VIII compilation for Switch was also officially released in Europe. I bought it here in Spain when it released a few years ago for 18€.

I know Coury's a big music guy - LOVE the Sub Pop sticker on the PVM immediately at the top of the video. A sign of good things to come, I'm sure!
How about compilations that include compilations. Like how the Sonic Action 4 Pack includes the Sega Smash Pack 2.
Loved it. Hopefully there will be more episodes in the near future.
You forgot the infamous "Combo Cart" especially on NES :
9,999,999 in 1
🤣🤣
I love how many multicarts are coming out for the switch, I just wish they came out in the US, its hard to track them as is
Nothing beats opening UA-cam and seeing a new mlig just dropped
Great video guys!!
Reminds of your older videos.
Ideas for future series:
1) more compilation video game analysis
2) Game port analysis for best version
Keep it up❤
Dragon Quest 1&2 are really excellent on the Game Boy Color too, and those do have an official English release!
Another D Tier, barf inducing video from MLiG. You love to see it.
(Please watch last week's stream before assuming I'm actually hating on MLiG.)
I got a Mega SG recently and have been looking at the Mega Games Collection.
Although maybe they could just graft those translations on
You sure are setting up a lot of future episodes here, LOL!
Wow I love that Gunbarl collection. They are just fun mini-games. I would say they are the more updated iteration of the NES gun mini-games.
Great video (as always)! I would enjoy future episodes on the theme, there is so much out there that I am sure I am unaware of!
15:15 I loved Sega Smash Pack not only because of Virtual Cop, but because it introduced me to the Shining Force series!
Why didn't you cover the Parodius or Salamander collection on the PSP?
Great video! I also grabbed the LA Machineguns / Gunblade NY collection on Wii when it came out! So surprised that it made it into this video!

Director: "Hey, you were supposed to wink to sell the product!"
Dog: "Don't worry, I gotchu"
Dragon Quest 1 and 2's GBC port was an utterly wonderful way to play through the first game. Just started 2 and it's also really nice, but some may prefer the SNES port for that one due to the size of it all
Also, Apollo Justice's HD sprites are super good, way better done than the original trilogy's (though those aren't bad in their current form)
Ok. You just mentioned it at 30:45.
Can't wait for the eventual Compilation of Multi-Game Compilations video.
When you mentioned Namco Museum on the PS1 I thought you were going to jump to the Namco Anthology releases! You really gotta get the second one Coury, it has an incredible sequel-make of Valkyrie with beautiful 32-bit pixel art.
Yes! Crazy how much effort they put into that for an anthology disc. Lovely that they remade the NES game in the style of Valkyrie no Densetsu
You should definitely do more of these. Especially emphasizing collections are more than just roms bundled with an emulator.
Would like to see coverage of the Capcom Classics Vol1 and 2 in a future vid :)
I'd love to see more videos on game compilation in the future! And then, after making a bunch of those episodes, you could make a compilation episode of your game compilation episodes! And maybe even through in some extra goodies like behind the scenes, editor interviews, and concept art!
Seeing this drop to watch when I get off work just made my day
I love these long form videos! I always play them while I’m at work for my bulldogs, hopefully it banks you guys some nice watch times for the algo 😅
They did. Veeeeery briefly.
Great idea for a video! Amazed that a Mega Drive game came out in 1997. Owned so many of these compilations. Really wish Sega would make some new ones for the Switch, I really want Crazy Taxi!
"Amazed that a Mega Drive game came out in 1997"
TecToy in Brazil: Hold my cachaça *releases an **_officially licensed_** Mega Drive **_system_** in **_2017_*
Thanks guys. I always get so excited to see your uploads like this. Your effort is so appreciated 💜
No Taito Legends/Memories? Yeah, you need to do a part two.
26:00 I got curious about this Wii comp. a few years ago, it's definitely using the Virtual Console emulator with the compilation's interface tacked on.
Oooohhhh, I NEED that Namco Collection on PS2 that has Ridge Racer.
I hope capcom makes another ghost n goblins collection because I want to play Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection but refuse to financially support digital only games.
Great vid! I defintiely would love to see another one of these sometime down the line.
Did the authors ever actually meet in person?
It looks like their every single video is being recorded in 2 completely different parts of USA.
[Try4ce] Of course, we usually meet up a few times a year. We work together on these, but tend to produce our own segments mostly on our own.
Try must be excited by the news of Ace Attorney Investigations Collection! I know I am!
[Try4ce] Heck yeah, the last game that needed an official English translation! I just finished Great Ace Attorney 2 a couple of days ago too! So, Investigations 2 is the last one I haven't finished (though I haven't done the DLC cases from 5 and 6).
@@mylifeingaming I popped so hard for the announcement. I've been waiting a dozen years to play Investigations 2!
Hey Coury, Where are you from? I Live in Buffalo, NY and I also played that game at the Walden Galleria Mall at Kahunaville all of those years ago 👍❤️
I have that on PS4 as well, I believe it's as a PS2 game.
Isn't that the remastered collection with 3-5? So it's not every and those re-releases are kind of a mixed bag in gamplay, especially for 3, making it way worse
@@MechaDragonX HD Upgrades of the PS3 originals.
@@TheKayliedGamerChannel-UA-cam ya
Agree. Discovered so many classics through Taito Legends.
Yoo, I had no idea Flicky and Fatal Labyrinth were download games originally, that actually makes their light content far more understandable
Great idea for an episode, more like this please.
Great to hear you speaking of software !! Great video !!!
We gotta get you some plates that don't belong at grandma's house.
[Try4ce] Literally where my plates came from.
Lol we need a new patreon tier for plates.
Ultra fresh MLG upload?? Aw yisssss
Very cool idea for an episode!
@15:00
I don't know if Sonic is the most re-released game of all time, but i'm 99.9 positive the most ported game of all time is Prince of Persia, closely followed by Doom.
I'll throw this one in: Maximum Underground. Max Payne 1 and the original Mafia, $20. It was the only method I could find to purchase Max Payne at the time, and I fell in love with Mafia because of it.
Great episode guys !
I really gotta get Namco Museum if for not other reason than to get Valkyrie. For some bizarre reason, the Project X Zone games made Valkyrie a prominent side character and it's always made me curious.
