Not quite what he said… “Obviously if you’re left handed you have a little bit more advantage to make the tag this way but you’re also at a disadvantage because you throw with the wrong hand and you’re probably weird.” Wait, I’m left handed! Oh, wait, I’m also weird. Hmm…
nice video. I started playing first for my rec softball league this past year, with no prior 1st experience. I'm tall and can stretch, so they wanted me there. Simple stuff, like not stretching early and waiting to see where the throw is going before even planting your feet are nice tips. Thank you!
Ok so I am a first baseman as well and what I have learned all my life was to not put my ball of my foot on the bag because the runner and spiked cleats do not go together because it will injure me
I just tried out for a 13 u select team and they wanted to play 1st base because they didn’t have any other spots and I’ve never played first base so this is helping me
Hey. Northern.. I plan on being first base and sometimes possibly play SS as well. Any tips and tricks on how to bat and how to read pitch’s or just how to not mess up
Only thing I disagree with is foot placement. I find that if I plant well...hard against the bag...My foot never comes off. Trying to find a good spot with the ball of my foot, A isn't consistent enough & B as you stretch further & further out. The ball placement generates an angle to the bag with that plant foot. So you have to force your heel down. Where as with my foot resting against bag flat. All my weight is pushing against that bag. The only time I have lost contact with the bag. Is when my foot is on top of the bag. One additional type that I would add. Is know your fellow infielders. If one guy in particular is playing 3rd baseball. I play closer the the bag. He just can't seem to throw the ball without worrying about hitting me. I'm 45 now lol I can't allows get around as fast i used to. So for Jon i play closer to the bag. Helps him make his throws. Being able to stretch is SUPER important at 1st base. A long stretch could be the distance required to get fast player out.
Why do you have to make a tag at the base if you are on first... shouldn't it be a forced out just by you standing on the bag? This is for a runner on 1st section. Thanks.
@@jarryd8167 I play for a new organization and they're giving me a shot, I'm going to make it one of my secondaries though, I'll just do as good as I can

Thanks for the help😂
Is tagging the base necessary when theres a runner on first? Ur already touching it with ur foot. Or is that a simulation of if the ball is caught?
Any tips of which glove I should buy for being a first basemen
First base glove
I just wanted to see if it was as "incredibly hard" as the guy in Moneyball said.
please mention to keep your toe on the first base and not your heel. otherwise when you stretch, you’re heel will come off.
What brand of glove is that?

If the pitcher turns around to try to get the runner out when the runner is on his lead he will most likely slide back and you will have to tag
I’m in 12u and am first baseman
Awesome
Do you haft to be tall to be a first baseman??
Just played 1st base for the second time in my life
Keep your right handed ass off my side of the field lol.
🤣🤣
Its kinda weird for me because im a right handed first baseman.
I play firstbass
just catch all the ball they throw to you and keep your foot on the bag
Jesus loves you all, have a blessed day or night. May His peace be with you. ❤️

POV: You are left handed or above 5'9"
Do I have to be tall to play first base? I really want to play it but I'm only 5 4 at age 15
no you just have to be a good player
Honestly on most teams yes. I hate that for you but being realistic it's going to be very difficult to convince a coach to play you there.
@@jarryd8167 yeah, I've been playing 2nd and outfield instead but now I'm the best 2nd baseman on my team

you didn't even talk about pick offs
How to be a better 1st baseman:
1. Be Anthony Rizzo
