Love your content. Wow, it is a revelation, thank you very much for what you posted.
By the way at 6:11, you stated "no one is all that anxious to talk to a king..." It should read eager not anxious. Recall, anxious implies fear, dread, anxiety, sadness, and the like, all negative emotions. Whereas eager indicated a positive feeling as in looking forward with excitement to something. Recalling my Latin studies, anxious came from the Latin word Angere, its implication was to choke or strangle someone. Thus, nobody is looking forward to being choked nor strangled. The word anxious has an emotionally negative connotation, unlike eager being a very positive feeling looking forward to something. Thank you for reading.

Came here after seeing your video from 2008! And this is a 4 yr old pre pandemic video!
Really like the hobby, and I want it to grow. But i love your comments 😄. I believe it’s very healthy criticism. I wish the important people in this hobby appreciate your comments/feedback.
But got to say, some of it is quite petty! Like the one about using Fahrenheit, nothing wrong in being clear. The one about equipment sale, thats their personal style. If you get to facebook marketplace or good or bad ol Craigslist ads, you will find how many of them are crappy ads. As well nobody sees money dropped into a hobby as investment, it’s all just lingos and figure of speech of current day. If you come down to the world of car and motorcycle upgrades and racing, you will be hit with far more heavy lingos.
As well i don’t understand your gripe with license exam. The test to get an automobile license is really low, that wont let them drive at nascar, let alone f3/f2/f1. The bar to enter is low for general license does not mean it cannot get complex. In fact there is no license required to drive/ride off-road, but one needs a lot of skill. License is just so you don’t harm others and claim innocence “i did not know”. But license is not equal to skill. Any certification is the same almost.
There is zero license required to compute, deploy code into the internet and have your apps/website live. Does it mean computing is for stupids? Far more greater and complex things have been written in the open source world if not better than proprietary.
I respect your view point, but you have unfortunately taken the negative view to be your character you got to play and is continuing with it for ages now!

The guy in love with himself always put me off even when I started in amateur radio back in 1993 or so. Just something about him and his grandstanding and bragging never appealed to me. In fact, I never bought one of his license manuals or material over the years to get my license upgrades preferring information from other sources or what I learned in some cases by listening and trial and error especially with antennas and learning how to make things such as antennas, soldering etc.
One of my biggest complaints about ham radio is the lack of decorum or decency on it these days. It sounds like a bunch of backwoods yokels here in the US of the lowest common denominator. It seems that 75 meters and 40 meters are the bane of the HF spectrum at least here in the Midwestern US since we get a lot of loudmouths from not only this region but the lower Ohio Valley, Upper South and Deep South along with Texas. It's like the worst of the worst and they might as well be playing banjos praising songs about the Bubbafication of America. In a lot of ways the lack of standards and not just Morse/CW no longer being required but also the dumbing down of the radio tests and license requirements is more of the dumbing down of amateur radio.
My local suburban bedroom community hams are nothing to be proud of either because most of them sound like they just came up from the CB bands and Channel 19 and act like they don't know the difference between CB Radio and the vile stupidity that goes on there versus amateur radio which used to be an interest aka hobby that was something to be at least somewhat proud.

I agree with most of your points and using hi hi in a voice qso is obviously foolish. How it got spread worldwide that, on cw, hi or hi hi is the proper way to laugh is wrong. in 34 years as a cw operator everytime I send h e e which is actually the correct way. I get asked why. Because h e e is the correct way not hi or hi hi. Most will disagree with me but I am right. One of my elmers was around in the early twenties with the call 1alk and he taught me this early on and he is not the only one. A lot of times when written in books laughing can be signified by ha ha or hee hee but never as hi hi. You never mentioned the poor behavior of some contesters. I have had several cw dx contacts ruined by contesters by parking right on my frequency or maybe 100 to 200 cycles off of it and starting up without ever checking the frequency. I encounter this with regular hams wanting to call cq on a frequency too. Since they don't hear anyone there at the time they incorrectly assume the frequency is clear. This is irrelevant anyway as sending qrl ? should be sent at least once but twice is better. Proper cw procedures are not being taught much anymore with maybe a few exceptions. Using KN is proper if you want a one on one qso so I will continue using it unless anyone is welcome to break in whereby I will send just a K. I have conducted ham and military cw nets and spent a lot of time learning proper procedures but the culture now is radically different and not always for the better. In other respects it is a step forward. Oh yes, I am sure those contesters heard me but just didn't give a damn. Even if they did not hear me they never checked the frequency. And backup gear for hams who handle emergency communications is a very good idea. In fact, I highly recommend it.

I had actualy one mad(at me) person in all those years that came to my house to drink a cup of coffee with me, that was a real supprise to me, other than that people say all kind of crazy things if you are honnest, they dont like me, welllll suprise i'm not here to be liked by everyone but if you ask for an opinion you will get a honnest one not a suggar coated one, wish everyone would do that instead of talking behind your back.

Ham radio is a great hobby, but the constant drumbeat that amateur radio is there "when all else fails" is super annoying. Good luck convincing anyone under 40 that they should get a ham license and buy an expensive radio so they can provide "emergency" communications at the local 5K race when cell phones do everything they need and more. Ham radio is fun, but let's not make it more than it is.

It sure is refreshing to hear someone else say this. It's far from being the popular opinion. In fact, during the recent hurricane drama, I was quite literally cursed at, banned, and even threatened for saying the same thing.

You are referring to handheld radios used for local events not long distance capable HF gear. If the grid or internet go down, and they will, what have you got left? The U.S. government allows us the privilege of using all this frequency spectrum but it is not a right. When hurricanes and tsunamis hit like they have in various parts of the world the grid and cell phones go down so all that is left is the military and us. I suspect you are fairly young and a newer "ham" otherwise you wouldn't be revealing yourself as the dumbass you evidently are. I am ex military and know we are headed for one bitch of a future if things don't radically change but I am more than likely wasting my time with the likes of you.You have been sold a bill of goods by the fools who don't know any better. Good luck with that.
