- Sweet funk roll. First match of consolation round at state. The wrestler in white got third this year. The other got first the next year. The guy in white was sick his first match and shouldn't have lost. But wrestling is cool, but you should all trick instead.

Love how sometimes it all comes down to a scramble or a funk roll in a match
A great move to catch someone off guard. Doesn't work more than once in a match that often though
The beginning movements are so smooth
i love how he exposed his back and managed to not get pinned
It’s called scrambling lol
That what is basically is
This guy hahaha😂 @ Ricardo AM
@@avender6077 Some referees do call pins that quick though
@@jerryreed1359 no, no they don't know lol
Before the video was deleted, there was an highlight reel of former Gopher all-american Mike Thorn about 3 or 4 years ago and he hit this roll. That was the first time I had seen it. This one seems to have gone better considering he didn't hurt the other kid.
You want to eat four servings of broccoli for maximum funkiness. Then moonwalk around. This is the proper set up.
LMBO!
I remember the first time I did this. I thought I was gonna break my neck before I did it at the team duals
That's some good shit. 12 years ago...just when that was getting to be a popular defense. Usually you're not going to come up and score that cleanly on it, but it does create some awesome scrambles and it's why its so hard to score cleanly at a high level.
This is slick...not click bait! Most of these are.
Blazin move, dawg, very good and impressive work.
It's not a fish move, especially if you execute it well.
Dang! That's super cool!
Cool! I'm gonna try this in my BJJ class but if I can I'm gonna turn it into a knee bar =D
Nice granbee -
ChamorruWarrior use it to enter x-guard. if the kneebar isnt there
Its weird because Tony Ferguson is one of the few that actually does that. Tony Ferguson being a national champion wrestler has great wrestling funk rolls but he has the ju jitsu to turn them into leg locks.
How? In the 6 years since you wrote this, has anybody in your BJJ class shot a single on you? They just pull guard on me. They're too smart to swap takedowns with wrestlers.
@@cherylandandycassidy8962 what about the freestyle folks that fly shooting on judokas 👽🤝
SICKEST FUNK ROLL I'VE SEEN YET
Wow! Awesome!
I've done that shit so many times! It works pretty well ONCE in a match. But nice job by this guy.
very very nice form on that
wow. That was really dangerous
Art
nice, I will remember that one
Great quality for a youtube video from 2009.
so gnarly
ya up here in Pennsylvania kids hit it left and right
excellent camera
Very nice
Coming from a 4 year letterman varsity wrestler, 119, I could tell that you were giving him the leg. Hahaha I used to do the same thing but I have never seen this move. Perfectly executed
TheGrangerBoy Nobody cares about your weak "achievements". You can give an opinion without trying to back it up with your shitty experience.
xXFalconEyeXc person from Harvard... person from community college... who do you think is smarter fucktard
Don't read my Profile picture That has nothing to do with what i said. What the fuck are you on about?
Michael Lyle Still felt like i wanted to comment it.
xXFalconEyeXc I fucking love uk people’s sayings... but what I’m saying is when you specialize in a certain skill it gives you more credibility than an average person. For instance a professional volleyball player comments on someone swing and a high school player comments on someone swing. Who’s advice would you take?
sick nike freeks bro..i can't find any anymore
props to you sir
in the beginning of the video i was like "they guy with the red freeks is gonna do the roll"
the coolest part of this video was his shoes..
I tried this on the toilet to get better leverage and now I'm dead.
Wow thts sick
awesome
i was there when this happen lol
Nice move
you are incredibly fluent on your feet dude
i use that every time someone stands up with my leg. it works or else they get hurt lol win win
That was awsome
that move was almost the ancle lock
damn dude i wrestle for Brookland-Cayce I didn't even realize this was Dutch Fork or even a south carolina high school
Legends says he lost after that
@falcon8967 Whoa that's cool! Almost looks like a tuck under knee bar.
Nice
oh geno....
I bet this guy is a state champ
BRING THE FUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
we call that a sunset flip in iowa
Sick! Agreed.
Sick nasty funk
Dang
and this is where i go "what the funk!!" jajja
all that matters is that it works
we called it a california roll
i did that in match once, fucked up but was able to pin him anyway, never trying this shit again
lol, that's awesome. A fish move for sure. But it worked that time and got pulled off.
@bjjwannabe152 Funk creates scrambles, which if you know what to do in that scramble, you come out on top. He just did a front flip ankle pick, which is almost identical to the Kolat flip, just forwards instead of backwards.
Been there done that.....
The setup is a single hop. You hop to where you are right beside him and forward roll, grabbing the closest leg. If you are fast its nice to get out of a takedown but it puts you in a scramble situation.
I gotta wrestler friend that recently moved here(new mexico) from sc
I thought this was going to be a Terry Funk roll as is done in pro wrestling where both guys have each other's hips and are flying in a giant circle all around the mat.
@FoodCubes I thought of that tech too
thats like sort of i dont know... like a last minute situation.. or did you plann on using that?
What’s funny is that this move isn’t all that uncommon now.
So satisfiying
;defense to funk roll ....just step on him it works
@kaliedoscopesharinga I am in the US. and no I havent ever seen that but in NC we go by the rules set by the NCHSAA and i never se two refs unless its states college or state qualification matches.
he went for a knee bar then realized its not BJJ lol
NIKE FREEKS
So you just roll? That simple or is there a move to set it up? Besides a single leg.
what weight was this at?
Did this at practice today
@falcon8967 .. yes. its legal
@falcon8967 hell yeah. I've been working with a coach that is being inducted into the wrestling hall of fame this summer. I'm working hard and I'm gonna get mine. Then take it to college and wrestle there.
Why the hell is the legality of this move even questioned? He gave the opponent the chance at his back in exchange for an opportunity to reverse, upon which he capitalized cause the opponent didn't understand what was going on.
well both these guys were top 64 in the entire state...
@flores50588 wow. it is a move. when u get caught in a single or high c just roll into ur legs and its going to provide counter pressure to their arm making u go loose,
Sick
What weight was this
@flores50588 yes
This is in South Carolina.
Yes, this move is legal
His shoulder blades touched the mat for a split second though. How was that not counted as him pinning himself. I would have done rolls like this to get out of situations if I knew it was allowed when I was in highschool. Mind you, we were the first team ever formed in that town, so all of us were new (except the 2 coaches)
can you touch the grounds with your shoulder quickly in folkstyle or is it a pin?
@@xy5844 I did freestyle so I don't know.
we call it the 3 in a row because you have to line your legs up 3 in a row before you do it and you arent suppose to leave your leg out like that it will get caught next time tuck in between his legs
Freek show
@flores50588 Yeah its still legal. Did it at my match tuesday and the ref counted it as an escape
@flores50588 ya it is good luck getting it to work like this though
I done this in bjj one by pure instinct by accident, didnt know what i was doing just throught i would try to roll out of the single leg and go for his leg. Think im gonna drill this
@falcon8967 it is
@falcon8967 well he meant california dive roll
@flores50588 in most states im pretty sure you cant even leave your feet now
No way it's Quentin wright
@flores50588 The funk roll was was never illegal in high school, only recently was the backflip out of the single leg made illegal for safety reasons.
@TheWrestler115 yeahh, thats deffintly a risky move lol. but good job.
its a version of revenge of the nile? right
we call it the 3 in a row cause in order to do it right u have to line up all 3 legs in a row before you roll
nah its legal, i learned it at a lehigh wrestling camp. (ranked number 3 in the us i believe)
@falcon8967 If he let him pick up his leg, why did the other wrestler struggle so much to lift it up?
Ahaha its hard to tell, but i actually did give him my leg. I was mad because this was at state and i lost my first match but wasn't supposed to so i was just messing around. I didn't want it to be obvious, though so i put up a little fight haha.
im guessing u do mma?
@flores50588 no its not illegal
granby..
