FYI: These are replica radios of the AN/PRC-152 radio. The radio in this video is not used by the military. It's a regular FM radio with no encryption or digital modes.
TCA are very soon releasing a new 2023 version of this radio, with a functional GPS module in it. Also will be KDU capable, and will have various other new functions including close call.
Best handheld you can buy? It's not a real Harris radio, LOL. It's a pretend Harris with the guts of a low-end radio inside it. Sure, it's kinda cool and has some features that a $80 Baofeng doesn't... but keep it in perspective. It's not on par with Motorola or Icom, etc. This is aimed at the LARP/MealTeam6 pretend operators for the look. Introducing it as a Harris 152 made my TCA and claiming it's in use by the military is hilariously either delusional or intentionally dishonest.
We dont connect PRC-152s to the power amp in HMMWVs, we use ASIPs which are also made by Harris but are completely different. No soldier calls HMMWVs "hummers".
i think he meant the RF-7800V V51X, the base/cradle system. I'm pretty sure if you plugged the PRC-152 into that power amp it would fry the radio or may not even do anything at all lol civilians can call them "hummers" its ok..
This radio is an airsoft quality UHF/VHF tx/Rx radio that is capable of listening to airband (Victor). The real 152 is the baddest and most functional handheld all band (including SATCOM) portable radio that has ever been made for light inf and socom. Cute radio though.
I have the tri. But way later on after purchase I came across a pdf manual for the tca 152 GPS model, and it spoke of the "call" functions. Basically stating you can set an ID and have group calls to other TCA radios. Orrrrrr that's how I understood its half ass explanation... I have since searched for someone with a 152 GPS or two tca 152a's to confirm this, and haven't had any luck yet 😮💨👎 but if you could make private calls to other tca radios that would be the beez kneez tittiezzz. I don't have much of an understanding of this though, and hoping maybe you could look into it / try it out (if you happen to have another one or a buddy with same tca type) don't know if your email is on your page, but I could send over the pdf link or screenshots of the manual translation IF* yours does not explain the call / group ID function(s) because I'd seriously love to hear / learn more about this, then possibly buy a few of these 😎 thanks for finally making a video covering the TCA model tho
Saw you didn't have any contact info on your page which is cool / whatever and I'm also not sure if links work in the comment section of youtube... *edit* appears links work here 😎 Anyways this is the detailed English manual for these radios look under where the plug types are and theres a section "attachments" and its the pdf file..... It mentions the caller ID and group calling along with remote kill and remote stun and the code to disable the "all lock" but the call function allows you to call 1 single person say out of a 5 person group... without the other 4 hearing it... or call all 5 persons without the "other team(s)" hearing it or could call just the other team...... without yours hearing it if your were that kind of guy.... lmao. But it explains this as 3 teams of 5 people (15 different caller ID's) (not sure if that's the limit or just the example they give) however essentially you just dial up the other person's other caller ID..... SOMEHOW.. its not totally clear.... and I've never seen this explained anywhere else on the internet but would LOVE to hear & see how / then go buy a few of these tca units... just use my tri as a base station as it has a higher power output anyways than these tca's... but I don't think any radio would be more worthy than these TCA's when knowing how to fully utilize this Caller ID / Single call / Group calling function. 😎so hope you can look into this and make a video over it and break the internet😎 www.px-airsoft.com/showroom/model/T0002/templateProductDetails.do?ParentId=1214745887149¤tPage=1&editCurrentLanguage=1213907847692&webId=1213907847691&productId=1488854613542387001
All the TCA PR-152 radios with GPS I see advertised on Ebay all say they have 5-watts RF output but you indicated yours has 10-watts output. Do you know if they changed the RF output limiting it to 5-watts or are they actually capable of 10-watts output despite what is advertised? I'd like to buy one and use it occasionally for APRS so I'm trying to sift through all info on these transceivers, of which there's a LOT. I definitely want the TCA version over the TRI but just wondered why the difference in RF output wattage from yours compared to what's on Ebay since your video was posted 4 months ago.
Thanks for this series of vids I would definitely love to know more. Is the KDU compatible or does TCA have their own? Is the GPS / APRS function also compatible ie AX.25 protocol, WIDE N-N paradigm, speed algorithm, Callsign display...??. More input / info please!!!
How do you know this radio has a superheterodyne receiver? I've looked everywhere for the radio specifications and haven't seen that anywhere. Thanks in advance.
Don't you just love all these unanswered questions? I don't necessarily mean the guy who did the review, but rather, all the videos people have posted to date for this transceiver. I see lots of questions with almost NO answers. I'd like to buy one of these and use it for APRS but it's hard to get a straight answer regarding the GPS capabilities of this model, not to mention some of it's other features like the auto-repeat feature. This video alluded to the radio having this feature but is he talking about **Cross Band Repeat** or something else? (not asking you, just giving an example of the questions people have about this radio). Just wish there was a website we could visit to get our answers 😕
@@patrickly818 Well that's good to know then. It's a real shame GPS is nonfunctional in this radio. Just imagine buying this model thinking you were gonna use the GPS feed, only to discover AFTER you bought it, the stubby GPS antenna is "just for looks". Unbelievable...

It operates conventional and without any additional bands aside from possibly 25-30 MHz. Does not do it well tho from what i understand. Its still a 136-174 and 400-520 analog radio. Why does it also have “step” thats not a narrow or wide band adjustment. On a real fpp motorola radio, its only got 3 narrow or wide settings from front panel, 12.5, 20 and 25KHz. 12.5 is narrow, 20,25 are considered wide. That just changes the frequency step, which is not a thing outside of baofeng, not in that sense.

Not with encryption still functionable, no. But there are civilian models almost identical to the prc 152 that don't have the government encryption on them. They have a different harris rf code # still very expensive. Edit: believe it's the Harris Rf 310M HH. Multiban Hand Held
short answer.. No. long Answer is If you are military or public service and would like to purchase a personal radio yes as you would need to contact L3Harris and provide your service email and credentials to be able to purchase a single AN/PRC-152 or 148 unit. however L3Harris does have a civilian model which is the RF-310M HH it does not have any encryption and has a rather expensive price tag.
There are civilian models of the prc 152 but no they aren't called prc152. Not allowed to have their encryption. So if the encryption has been disabled permanently then they are legal. I believe the civilian model is a Rf 310M HH
