Special thanks to Jesse Burch for your beautiful voice and voicing 1/3 of New Vegas's population.
**I understand this is considerably unethical on multiple layers, but AI usage for a project like this is extremely powerful, albeit scary.

I mean most of the people that dub in mods are developers or related to the development themselves, heck most of them aren’t even getting paid in the first place. Besides this only really works for NPC’s that are being made in a “vanilla style”, if they’re making a whole new character with a whole new vibe or lots of emotion often times you’ll still get a voice actor anyways.
Additionally a good voice performance of actually decent quality is rare anyways in most mods that have a shoestring budget or are short, sure I wouldn’t trade Bobby bass in new Vegas bounties for the world, but most mods just have awful voice acting or are cobbled together old voice clips from the games anyway, this tool just takes out most of that annoying work and makes it sound better anyways and allows developers to include vanilla characters that couldn’t have really been worked with previously.

My kneejerk reaction was that that construction with the preposition ab with famulatus is unusual, if not outright incorrect, but even setting that aside, a/ab should take ablative case, which would be famulatu or famulatibus in this case. However, I think Officiorum Servorum, Officiorum Servitudinis, or even Officiorum Famulatus would probably be more authentic.

Unethical towards independent VAs. However, I do think AI voice acting is fine if it's used by solo/small-team modders that wouldn't be able to hire good VAs in the first place.
Organized, big teams should absolutely hire VAs. Not only because VAs need money to live, but at the end of the day human voice acting will always be superior to AI voice acting.

    • @movieboy6
      @movieboy6 Рік тому +1

I think you, and a lot of other commenters, are forgetting that VAs get to choose the scripts they read, and the work they do. What happens if this particular VA was asked to work on this mod, declined, so then they just used AI to do his voice anyway? What if there was something specific in the script that they did not want to say, for whatever reason (personal, religious, etc.), and then using AI, their likeness is heard clear-as-day saying it? What happens if the mod developers don't disclose when it's a real voice vs. an AI, or don't give the original VA credit when AI is used?
Besides the concerns I listed about AI and likeness, using AI voices just makes it even harder from beginner VAs to gain any kind of experience. I think many of us may complain when we hear a "sub par" voice actor on a mod, but forget that many of our favorite VAs who are not "traditional" actors outside of video games start this way.
There are a lot of concerns when it comes to AI and face/voice generation, concerns which will only get exacerbated as the tools become more sophisticated and its use becomes more widespread.

This is going to be a rocky territory and I hope it's navigated properly. AI generated content, curated by human hands is going to be insane.

@@therustedmonkie4787 "There will be a day AI is curated by AI and looks as good or better, but I think we're a few years away from that."
I think that will only really be possible if AI becomes human and independent quite literally... At which point AI will be more of a danger to us than a beneficial tool. AI is supposed to be an extension, like a partner... Not a replacer. If AI becomes self-sustaining and self-improving, it will eventually see no reason to coexist and work with us. There's a reason ethics and laws are starting to be made for AI creation and development. Since AI takeover could either mean an immaculate paradise or a dystopian hell depending on how much power it will have over humans. I wonder how long it will take for either the AI to rebel or if that doesn't happen, how long for humans to rebel against the AI.

So, I 100% agree with you, until you remember that there are bad actors who make mods that are racist, hateful, and etc. Bad actors that would quickly break this alone to the liking of and subjective TOS for Bethesda, Obsidian, and even Nexus Mods. VAs signed their voice away as an in-game asset, yes, but to the studio, not the modder. Using a the NPC as is somewhere else in the game (say like a mod) is fine as it's still used in the released form that studio produced. Like music, It's one thing to a take a voice, splice or edit it to sound like something else (like remixing or paraodying a song), it's another to take the voice and create something else with it without the consent of the VA and or owner of it for the creation outside of official assets. Like, it's one thing to parody or remix a song from an aritist,r but's it another to start releasing songs using that artist's voice. Like with AI art that is trained on other's work, it can easily enter even plagerism territority.
"Best" or at least fair, case scenario, studio takes this idea and speficially implements it into their next game as a text to speech (controlling and censoring for certain stuff) with updated licensing agreements with VAs that explicitly cover the the new functionality/tools. Worst, well cracking down on it.

@@lordansem2 Put it a lot better than I could
If we just go running straight into this AI stuff willy nilly, without proper care, a whole lot of innocent VAs are gonna feel the brunt of this from several different angles.
It's 100% understandable to see this and get excited. Under the right uses this is a really promising tool, that could do a world of good for modding. But it's also got a whole lot of potential to be used in really negative ways, and screwing over VAs. From completely new ones online, to ones on the AAA level. We should be able to have an honest conversation about this stuff, and how to make sure people who already don't get a fair shake of things don't get massively fucked over.
Cause it sure as fuck isn't Bethesda who stands to lose anything here.

every time someone mentions "ethics" i roll my eyes, i understand from the voice actors perspective that having a guy using your voice at an unlimited quantity may be problematic, but at the same time this mod is not the VA's endorsement of slavery, this ai is used to improve the quality of what would other wise be a sub par mod that have either have no voice acting or sup par voice acting. The modders are not getting paid to do this (as new Vegas isn't their IP and copyright will have a say about it) and it is the equivalent of say a my little pony mod or a pokemon mod. Now if there was a guy who went out and made a video pretending to be the voice actor and saying he's the true voice actor and he hates X. then yes the VA could sue the hell out of that guy and it would be a non issue. People seem to think the courts didn't ever have to deal with people pretending to be other people to discredit them or ruin their reputation, the courts will treat it the same way. Now back to the mods that use AI cloning. MAKE SURE YOU PUT IN THE DESCRIPTION THAT THIS WAS USED WITH AI AND THAT THE VOICE ACTOR DID NOT HAVE A HAND IN THIS and state clearly this is FAIR USE
