Jeremy McLerran awesome... I have some seats coming in the next week or 2... the guy asked me what seat brackets I needed since they have 2 different sets.. he said if you knew the year of the seats. Me and my kids thank you for your video 👍
I need to make a couple more adjustments to make it perfect but I’ve been filming the entire process so I’ll have a new video to post when I’m done. Building a riser to allow it to secure in the back, but also give me more storage underneath the seat. Also raises the kids up so they can see better, should reduce the amount of car sickness in the “way back.” Also doing 4 point harnesses instead of just a lap belt. Can’t wait to share it with everyone.
Jeremy really nice running into you today at ACE. Love this seat idea. We have three kids now but if we have another this is one of my top options. Have seen a anyone do a half seat? Our dog comes with us on most trips. I’d love to split the back with one seat and room for her.
Great meeting you too! You have an awesome Jeep! I have a buddy who has a JK with a single seat in the back. One kid sits in the back with the dog. Perfect setup, and there’s still room for a cooler or some tools. Unfortunately finding the seat can be tricky. I suggest looking into foldable seats they use for campers, the back of land cruisers, etc. Find the right seat and then worry about how to secure it to the Jeep!
I’ve done it three different times now. Totally worth it to let the little kids enjoy Jeeping! Couple warnings though: consider 4 point harnesses. As you move off road their poor heads might smack a roll bar unless their seat belts hold them firmly in place... not fun!
Those bolts will rip through the floor in a crash. Need to plates above and below to distribute the force. Your lab belt is not properly bolted in and can’t be shared by multiple passengers. In a crash they will slide out of the belt.
Michael Curbow lots of lessons learned. If I did it again I would definitely make my brackets bolt into the stock cargo holes. Remove those loops and use the built in screws already there. I’d also try and integrate the seatbelts into the seat. Honestly the seatbelts are the most challenging part of the entire setup. If you watched my sequel to this video where I built a bracket I put seatbelt holders on the bracket but I’d rather have them integrated into the seat itself. Finding a seat isn’t hard, I bought a replacement seat on Quadratec. Very affordable.
Michael Curbow I got the first seat I used (in this video) from a guy who calls himself “Dr Jeep” in Provo, UT. He parts out old broken Jeeps and I’m sure he’d have what you need. Look him up on Facebook!
I have 2013 JKU and looking to do a third row. I want to keep the sub speaker and see you were able too with this seat. I have heard the TJ seat won’t work with the sub, but the YJ will. Are you sure this was a TJ seat?
Hi Dear could it be install it as 3rd row to my 2011 Ford Escape FWD 4dr XLT my car does not come with 3rd row seats and i'm thinking to add 3rd row seat to it somehow I am completly new to this - any other sugestion would be appreaciated as i have my newphews to take with me when we go for advatures :) I'm writing you from Houston Texes
With a third row you have to get creative. We HEAVILY depend on the space under the seats, typically telling each kid “you can only bring what fits in this bag” and then we maximize the space over the wheel wells. For longer trips we would either put a rack on the roof, tow a small trailer, or have one of those rear cargo baskets that attach to the hitch or the tailgate. Cooler and food typically go under kids feet behind driver and passenger seats. It’s a tight, it’s a challenge, but it’s been fun figuring things out.
I have a new were video where I put one of these in my current jeep. More information on how I did it and what I did differently in that particular video. Link is in the video description
I wish I could tell you. I took my seat brackets to the hardware store and found a bolt that would fit through the bracket hole. I do remember that the bolts were about 3-4” long. And I bought nylon lock washers to make sure it was secure and didn’t loosen up. I would also suggest better support under the floor. Wide washers, as big as you can find, and ideally a long bar that you could use to span the distance between the left and right bolts. I’ve done several iterations of this over the years and each one has gotten more secure over time. The last thing you want is to have your little ones fly up and out during an accident!!
jojo rust is always a concern in humid climates. Be ready to scrape off any rust you see and paint over top to prevent future rust development. Out here in Utah we don’t have to worry as much about rust, it develops very slowly in our dry climate, but valid observation for others looking to repeat this on their vehicles, thanks for pointing it out!
Will it work on a 2016? What all do I need from the TJ besides the seat?
Atilano Ontiveros Jr yeah, should work on any Jeep. You’ll need the seat itself and the mounting brackets that attach to the tub/body/frame

I just bought a new rubicon and I’m adding a 3rd row again to it. Bought the bestop trailmax seat, came with mounting hardware.
Jeremy McLerran let me know if this more convenient than the previous method.. thanks

Too cool, Jeremy. You sure are a handy SOB. Paint me jealous!

Awesome idea, always thought of doing this

Thanks for the video. Nicely done!
Russell glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!
Nice job

That is a YJ rear seat, not a TJ
Good catch! You’re absolutely right. The TJ rear seat was much larger
What made you change your setup? I'm looking at getting my hands on a TJ back seats right now and if there are lessons learned, please share! Thanks.

@@1111Overland thanks! I'll keep that in mind. I'm shopping around for a seat currently. I'm cheap lol... so no rush, just shopping.

What do you use to keep your keep so shine on the black....looks awesome...
Ha! Yeah, it’s pretty nasty. I was excited to use a brand new seat on my new Rubicon when I bought that last year.
I want to do this on my Jeep Patriot!! Do you think it would work?
ana karen cruz it could! Measure the space back there and see how “Head room” you’d have once a seat is installed...
Can you help me find one for my Jeep???? I have a 2019 Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited
I just bought the rear replacement seat for an old CJ or YJ
What seat is it?
Any problems with out lovely Utah cops?
No, though I’ve never been pulled over. We don’t run the 3rd row anymore, kids have outgrown it

This Me no idea honestly... I guess it could, but you’d want to be sure you can bolt it to the floor securely...
What do you do about cargo?

Is your jeep manual? Or automatic?
Deysi Sandoval automatic! (Sorry it took so long to reply... we’ve been out Jeeping!)
O yeah i have a jeep too u have to jeep everyday. I heard little seats company is closed out of service ? U happen to know something?
Yes, little passenger seats is gone. I bought a bestop Trail max seat for my Jeep.
@@1111Overland woww i never heard of those?

What size nut and bolts to bolt seat down you use ??
I wish I could tell you. I took my seat brackets to the hardware store and found a bolt that would fit through the bracket hole.

@@1111Overland thanks
The main thing was how long (length)
Does it not mount to the floor at the back of the seat? What year TJ seat is that?
SG1Raider no, I didn’t add that hardware to the back because it would have eliminated my ability to open and close that under-seat storage.
Can you put car seats in these seats?
Wealth Creation with only a single lap belt it was more challenging, but we put two boosters back there
Rusted 3rd row attachments...seems legit

??
Or, the easiest solution is not to have so many kids...
Nun Ya The funny thing is, I NEVER wanted this many kids, but now that I have them I wouldn’t trade them for the world!

Hmm, well they must not be quite the pain in the ass I was!
I'd have to ask your parents about that one!!!

Trust me, they would agree...😂
Somebodies husband gay!
Maurice Davis I’m not sure what you mean by that...
