As a retired Euclid executive, I am so proud of what this company contributed to the US construction and mining industries. Seeing this old truck run after all these years is a testament to the quality that was built into these products.
"Hold on this tree is in the fan" my favorite quote. too good Matt
As someone who has worked underground, I recognize what this truck was used for immediately... This would have been the powder rig. Commonly called a "powder monkey." As a blaster, this is what we used to load shots underground, to advance the mine... I've never seen one mounted on a Euc like this, ours was on an old Gettman... But I'm 99% sure that's what this was used for. That air tank on the side was likely used for the pneumatic loading of ANFO.
I love that
Likely you are right. Like for blasting power dam tunnels.
What did you mine, if you don’t mind me asking?
Literally says it in the video
Boom truck literally
When the following three phrases are said while getting a vehicle or machine running, you know the dedication to the cause is 100%:
“Gonna use all the ether”
“Something’s on fire, no like real fire!!”
“Let me wedge the machete in right here.”
Great video and great job getting the Euclid running!!
Just when I thought you were to smart to hang out with me this happened.
There's just something about your videos that I love. I think it's the no nonsense, logical approach you take and there's as much of you in the videos as there is the machines.
The no nonsense, logical leaving of all the trees so they have to fight just to see or get into the truck? ROTFLSHIAPMP.
My logic: First, clear the brush so you can at least see what you're working on.
@@ljprep6250 agreed, not a whole lot of logic in that.
@@FishFind3000 I recall Matt saying 'for now' as they were clearing the area. I would expect it will be pulled out once the space is leveled and put on proper display.
To work out the last time it ran you just need to count the rings of the tree growing through it Matt 😂🍻
😂 now youre thinkin
Best answer ever 👍🏻🤣🍀
But it might have been a few years before seeds took root so that would be a minimum!
Thanks Matt 👌👍🍺
Last time I took a bath I simply count the rings around the tub,
Thanks!
Thanks David!
As a 10yo boy in Westport NZ, in 1950, our house was nearby the NZ Govt. Public Works Department workshops. Often times on the weekends there were Euclid and Dart dump trucks parked opposite the shops awaiting maintenance. My siblings and friends and i would go and sit in the cabs of these monsters where our imaginations would run wild. Personally i preferred playing in the Darts which had a much nicer dash layout than the Euclid. These vehicles were used at the opencast coal mines at Millerton and Stockton for hauling coal. Bob. My wife is a Westport girl. Living in Oz now.
That means you're 83 already. I love old folks sharing their memories on the internet. God bless you.
@@bellezayverdad Thank you Gines. I'm 83 tomorrow, the third eldest of 6 son's and one daughter. All still living except for one of the twins, Graham, now deceased. ❤
Thank u for sharing... from new plymouth , nz
@@Chopper650 Thank you for acknowledging, my dear wife and i are at Lower Hutt. Bob.
Matt. Just saw Celebrity Facts on UA-cam. So little of your personal life and a BIG Congrads on your Marriage. Love your Content. Love your abilities. I live in a Residential Area in No Jersey and not much room. I'm 81 and very mechanically inclined. Watch every Video and always review all new Videos. Remember our Veterans.
I never get tired of seeing these videos. I wish these machines could talk so I can hear the history of them helping to forge this country. They are beautiful in my eyes. Great job again Matt.
I love Brownsville, Pa. And SWPa. My parents grew up in West Brownsville and Blainssurg. I have a ton of great memories as i sit here in Chesterfield County, Va. I miss SWPa, my home.
The resilience of diesel equipment continues to amaze me. I can see myself becoming a convert.
Wanna do it fast before there banned. Disgraceful the way things are going.
Lot of old cool equipment there , reminds me of antique engine and power show that's coming up in july in Kirtland, Ohio at the Farmpark . Should be a big show . Thanks for sharing !
Afternoon Matt!! VERY COOL!! I've always had a soft spot for these vintage trucks, growing up in Michigan, in a town that once was considered the gravel capital of the world (encyclopedia Britannica), as a kid I loved going through the gravel pit junk yards, these vintage Euclids we're part of those junkyards, I remember one sand/gravel pit used vintage WC2264 Whites used as pit trucks, the coolest dump truck I found was a 1930's Bull Dog Mack which was sunk up to the Axles in the mud...most of the pits are gone, new subdivisions we're built in there place.

Machines that built this country. Thank you for keeping them alive.
Hi Matt, makes my day complete watching your content.
There are not too many UTUBERS that I look forward to watching, but I can say that you are one of the top! When I see you up loaded a new video I watch it right away, never disappointed! My wife would never let me do what you get away with!!!!! I hope you know you are lucky!!!! You must make a shit ton of money, or she would not go along with this!!!!!!
Congrats Matt and crew on finally getting the 50's Euclid off road truck started and running. cool old truck..
The flames coming out the exhaust 😂 great video as always 26:10 @Diesel Creek
Your work ethic is exceptional. Thanks for sharing and taking us along
This si the first one of your old engine start videos I have seen and it was GREAT! I have worked on a lot of old engines getting them running again and there is truly no better sound when she fires off for the first time after heaven only knows how long its been sitting. Great vid I will be watching many more Thanks!
Awesome, nothing better than a Diesel Creek video.
You obvoiusly never heard of simon fordman
Got to love the Exhaust Muffler is on the roof with easy Access 😂 wow She Started for a few seconds 8:54 @Diesel Creek
Thanks for keeping history alive Matt.
The trees really add to the ambience! Love it! Maybe I'm weird, but the videos when you are fighting trees and mud and nature in general are my favorites.
Some pretty cool old pieces! The video blacks out for about 20 seconds at 20:15 but comes back. Thanks for sharing!
Sorry 🤦🏼♂️
Was just long enough to catch attention but not Long enough to get checked out
The “Semi Super Villains” with what sounds like total acoustic guitars are so good! I’ve enjoyed the music for the past year but haven’t taken the time to write to you.
Amazing how those old machines fire up after so many years..thanks for sharing Matt and stay safe.
This is by far the funniest video you've made to date.
😂😂😂😂😂
The cans of..... Everything but ether, the birdnest that shot out, mechette throttling, fires and battery welding.
OMG, I needed a laugh. Thank you!
Matt, absolutely love watching your videos and learn something every time. I do haave to say though that this has to be the funniest episode from you I have seen yet! "Something son fire!.. No, something's REALLY on fire! OK it's out, won't catch fire again... it's burnt out" Reminded me so much of me and my friend's antics growing up when doing similar stuff! Obviously glad nobody got hurt, and looking forward to your next episode!
I know absolutely nothing about those trucks and machines you guys bring back to life, but man do I ever love watching you do it - and learning new stuff along the way. Cheers.
Matt, the Euclid is a treasure so it is good to see you driving it around the grounds. It was nice to see you operating the drag shovel. Blessing to you.
Awesome video. My son was so excited to meet you. Thank you for taking the time to have a picture taken with him in the rain.
Matt, in 50 years from now when you're old and all busted up like me, you'll get the real buzz again like i just did watching this old Euclid bust back into life.
Many thanks for what you do, and even greater thanks for sharing it all with us.
David in the UK.
We just got my wifes grandpas old Massey mf35 made in 1957 started that had stood still outside for 25 years. Its amazing how sturdy stuff were made back then
I love these "will it start and drive" videos, i just cant stop watching these :). Also you're really good saving vehicles, and really nice to watch and listen. Keep up the good work
Thanks for starting that thing. My father worked for Euclid as a trouble shooter field repair hot shot. I loved those big honkin things when i was a kid!👍👍
Hehe. That moment when I come home, looking for a video to watch, realizing that you have just published a new one, only two minutes ago!
She running like a Champ and Even Idiling Heck yeah Matt and Sam just need To Get to The Arbor Work Now lol 12:20 @Diesel Creek
I had this weird little song going through my head while you all were getting the truck started, "Come with me, and you'll see, a world of OSHA violations!"
Man that was awesome! I love watching those old workhorse’s starting and running, after being sitting in the same place for years! Great job!👌😎👍 my favorites are those old caterpillars! D8, D2, D9s..
Euclids have always been such beautiful machines. Such a great find mate
Euclid sounds like a name of a disease...a rare one... and this brand is really rare
@@kirdot2011more like a flower or a plant to me.
@@martymartin2894 actually now that I think about it... You're right
Just thought you might want to know, I don’t speak for others, but do for some! WE look forward to your videos, weekly, and even sooner ( as you post them).
I ALWAYS click on the “up vote” on EVERY video of yours. I’m sure these videos take a ton of time to get together, but I hope you are getting enough to compensate for your time. Either way, thank you for EVERYTHING you do.
Loved all those machines and the General Lee was the proverbial cherry on top of this delicious dessert.
Love the new opening panning shot using a drone. Sam and you work well together Matt approaching the problem with a good sense of humour rather than irritation.
Last time I saw a Euclid was on at a cane sugar farm in north Queensland Australia. It was what looked like a flat bet truck but it also was supporting the local wild life. It had been sitting there for decades according to a local 👍
I really enjoyed the show, can't believe I drove by that place for almost a year hauling cement to the route 43 road job and never realized what it was. And it was awesome to meet you Matt, maybe see ya again next spring and thanks for taking a minute to shake my hand and chat for a few! Awesome video as always
NH Fuel Pulse Pump has an electric fuel shut off solenoid atop of it. You need to run the thumb screw into the bottom to run it on manual...without an electric input.
That’s what we dod
It ALWAYS amazes me how you can get all these old beasts to fire up! I have more fun watching this channel than I do watching anything on TV.
I admire your ability to see what is wrong and jump in and make it work.
Like your since of humor, I know that probably many folks don’t get it.
Love seeing a diesel creek notification, The Best!
It is a tragedy when rare a beautiful machines like that Euclid get left to rot. I really appreciate you giving her another chance to run; she deserves to be restored. Euclids are rare and really, really neat trucks
I subscribe to about 20 channels on equipment, construction and boat building. If there's a new DC vid, it always goes first. Thanks Matt.
Thanks so much Peter!
Always a great time when you get around this old iron..really amazes me the use of the pony motors but they got the job done... appreciate you sharing your day with us and seeing these pieces of history.😇🚜🇺🇸🔧🛠️🛻
Matt, you no longer surprise me. I do believe you can analyze and fix everything from a flat tire and the space shuttle. Your analytical mind may be best utilized in the aerospace industry. Love all your videos. Keep on keeping’ on.
Great video Matt. I love any machine as long ass it's old. As a young kid in the early 50's I'd stop by Delta Crop Dusting service in Monroe, Louisiana on my way home from school. They were the precursors of Delta Airlines. They built their own aircraft for crop dusting and it was like watching a big model kit being put together. I was no trouble so they would sit me on a stool, give me a 5 cent Coke and let me watch. They would answer any questions I had if it wasn't too many. I got my love of airplanes and flying then. Still today, I think REAL airplanes have two wings and round propeller engines.

I've been up close to one of those old Euclids at a truck show years back. It looked like it was in the same condition as this one but did run. They're just big old dinosaurs!
“It’s already been on fire, it can’t burn any more.” As a father with two boys, I can completely agree with this logic but despite everything I’ve been taught about diversity and inclusion, I have a hard time imagining 99% of woman agreeing with us. Happy memorial weekend folks.
3:05: Well - that's what I would call a comfortable drivers seat! Very cozy indeed😋!
"The trees really add to the ambiance!" 😂
here in the u k my dad drove a EUCLID when i was a boy . i am now 74 . we had a thriving coal industry ,no more. he dumped spoil from the mine onto the surrounding area called the pit bank . the type he drove was actually like the one behind this one .
Great video Matt. Nice to see the old machines start up. Enjoyed watching
Love watching your videos ..seeing the old come back to life is awesome..
Comes complete with the only tool you'll ever need: A ball peen hammer😁 Have a great weekend Matt👍
You guys are a HOOT! Just a bunch of kids with your goofball antics. Nice to see this start and just sit and idle like it was parked yesterday! I swear Matt could start the Titanic and drive it away.
Really enjoy seeing you and Sam collaborating on the projects. I hope to one day make it to the steam show
We were at the steam show on Sunday, but did not get a chance to talk to you this year. It is always a good time there watching all the old and antique equipment run and operate. We did see you cruising around in the ole Jeep a couple times tho. It is great they have the room there to preserve all of this history!
I love the look of those old boxy trucks
Every time I see you on an old Cat Dozer I recall the effects of a D8 on my left arm from pulling the "johnson" clutch engager. They all had a 60lbs pull to engage. We all had great left arms.
I started to get worried no video today. Then Matt pops in with this gem. What a great time. Before we start it we have to chainsaw this tree out of the way lol
Love the old D8 with cable blade. I ran one in the early 60’s when I was a kid. My uncle had two D8’s and a D10. He used them for making logging roads.
My Dad drove an old Euclid dump like that in a coal mine in Northeast England.
don't think I've ever rooted for or been more proud of a machine as I was for that old Euclid, real old soldier.
Great content Matt. I always like to watch younger guys working vintage Machines. 👍
Only a few channels worth having notifications for and this is one of em
What a beautiful machine (and no, I'm not being sarcastic). Starts up after all that time, steers and even seems to have brakes.
The brakes are a surprise yeah, thought for sure that there were too many air leaks
There needs to be a museum. That preserves and restores history like these machines!
"Someties I think you are too smart to hang out with me... than Things like this happens"
😂😂😂
Awesome stuff!
Reminds me of my small construction company dozer scarper payloader etc in backyard when I was 8 years old all Tonka equipment you guys are living the dream thanks
Afternoon Matt
Was that a rats nest that exited the Exhaust 9:15
Great video lovely see all these old vehicles actually working
Maybe bird nest
Or a "Mouse House"
Eviction notice was served
I think it was a baby opossum
Am living the intro sound you got no idea how many times I restart the music just to listen to it over and over it is intoxicating..it makes me love everything you going to do..thanks Matt my madam does not like you though..you taking all her attention
Y’all have to work together more often that was an absolute riot to watch
When I worked for Blackwood Hodge in the UK those R15 /FD trucks were rebuilt as new stripped down to the last nut and bolt a friend of mine has the 5th one built in the UK
Just found this channel and love it well done
*- Thank you Matt for bringing back your original intro music version by The Semi Supervillians.*
*- It has a better feel to me for some reason.*
*= You got a thumbs up just for that.*
I love your videos Matt! The production quality is so good! 😃
Thanks Matt she didn't give too much of a fight and you could tell she was ready to get out of the spot she sat in for twenty years. Six stars brother
Keep up the good work Matt!
A little glitch on mine starting at 20:18 and ends 20:37 . I do believe we also see a glimpse of the CJ joining the party. Great vlog Matt. So bummed that we couldn’t make the show. Maybe another time.
Good video, love seeing old stuff come back to life. So gutted that we don't have such cool trucks in England. I guess you may be on a time limit, but there are checks i would do before connecting batteries e.t.c. Wouldn't want to damage the engine or its components. Keep up the good work.
One thing that really riles me up . . . Guys, if you're gonna just leave a truck sit for years, wind the windows up and close the doors!
The concrete deck on the back for weight. A little different deck for a truck. Don't have to worry about rust 😄
At Brownsville, PA/// show.. 1.29. .. i am sure it is fun being at the show.. It was always fun when I worked at the FAIR in Knoxville, TM. be safe 3.22 k
Gostei do vídeo meu amigo 👏
Wow, I was watching the nice D8 and remembering driving, but not operating, one a few years ago. Then I did the math and it was 50 years ago. Our mine had a few rented Euclid haul paks for a while, until all our Wabco 85 ton rigs were built, and boy were they loud. The drivers had fun when it rained and they could spin in the mud puddles. One big Terex with a Detroit diesel that you could hear from a mile away. Now those are known as the old days.

743 Cummins are great engines. There's a 4 cylinder version of the same engine in the grader sitting outside my house right now, a 495. Love the sound. Side note, it uses 2 D batteries to start lol. Takes a lot of current.
Being a old H series is very possible that it’s still a 672cid. They have a smaller bore, 1/8” smaller if I remember correctly it wasn’t until later years they upped the bore size by boring out the cylinder larger. The cylinder liners are interchangeable the only difference was the older ones had a very thick liner with a notch cut out at the of the liner for the valves to clear.
When I worked at Cummins in Toronto in the early 70’s it wasn’t too often you came across a 4 cylinder one. One thing I did notice is the ones
built under license by Komatsu in Japan the inside of the crank cases where painted Cummins Golden Rod yellow, the block casting had a smoother look than the ones that came from Shotts Scotland. I was told back then that the blocks where “ cured “ for a year before they machined
them. Most of the engines of this age came from mines, sawmills, power plants, and tugboats pulling log booms up in Northern Ontario.
It wasn’t uncommon to see blocks with casting dates going back to the 40’s. Lots of memories of making up new lube hoses, as these engines
didn’t have a lot of connected drilled oil galleries. Accessories had to be supplied by oil hoses. My old NTC Big Cam 2 from 82 had a “ signal line “
that came of the lube pump and plumbed into the camshaft gallery. There’s nothing like the sound of a naturally aspirated NH 250 with a Jake
rolling down hill into town. 😊
Having the JEEP there was a bonus, something of your own you can drive around and showcase and it fits right in :D
Matt, lots of sassafras trees all the around that Euclid. The roots are used for making tea.
I love watching old things get fired back up. Great channel matt
