      Your curtains behind the cab seats should have been thermal blockout fabric or backing lined. It a very common type of curtain fabric and readily ava in fabric stores. You could now just get the thermal lining and attach to your current fabric curtains. The good part is it doesn't fray so can simply cut to size and stitched to the existing curtains. I would stop the lining just short of your hardware fittings so as to not create bulk behind the hardware. Not only would it blockout the light but also keep out the heat in summer and cold in winter, if your planning on using year round.
      Great job. Enjoy!

      Yeah I’m pretty pleased with it seeing as I’ve never built anything in my life before this! I think it was like 2 or 3 months just doing a few hours here and there, so not as quick as the video made it seem. And I did a lot of UA-cam video watching to learn as I went haha. And thank you! Definitely enjoying it!

    • @Adz
      @Adz  2 роки тому +1

      No it’s almost impossible to get it classed as a camper. Even if you follow all the rules they still deny it most of the time. The full list of rules are on the DVLA website but most people try and give up because they don’t even give an explanation to why they’ve denied it

      @@Adz the big blocker for most these days is the requirement for a high-top roof. If you don't have that you've got no chance as it now a core requirement (from UK Gov website):
      - 2 or more windows on at least one side of the main body (this does not include windows on the driver or passenger doors) to provide a reasonable amount of daylight into the living accommodation
      - a separate door which provides access to the living accommodation of the vehicle (this excludes the driver and passenger doors); a window on this door counts as a separate window on the main body
      - motor caravan-style graphics on both sides of the vehicle
      - an awning bar attached to either side of the vehicle
      - a high-top roof (this does not include a pop-top elevating roof)

    Nice conversion! The bubble foil everyone uses is fine for vapour barrier but useless as an insulation or sound deadener! The plastic bottle insulation is great but needs a vapour barrier! 👍

    • @Adz
      @Adz  2 роки тому

      Thank you! I used a separate sound deadener. And not standard foil, it was insulated too. But also vapour barriers do more damage than good a lot of the time. I think it’s far better to control moisture levels rather than to attempt to stop it reaching the metal. Because it inevitably will in a van and then the vapour gets trapped behind the barrier and can’t dry which causes a problem

    Fantastic conversion and a very different layout to all the others I’ve watched. I’m interested in the way you’ve done the bed. Where did you get the frame made and what are the dimensions of it?

    • @Adz
      @Adz  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks! Yeah I didn’t want a side kitchen because I needed the bed to be a certain size. The frame is 120cm wide by about 175cm and then the wooden board overhangs by about 10cm at the back to make it about 185cm long. It’s basically a small double. The guy who made it was an eBay seller that sells frames and I just asked him to customise the size for me and he did. There’s a few sellers that do the frames I think

    A good alternative to a fire extinguisher is a small plant spray bottle, test it occasionally (some triggers go rusty!), the water spray will put most small fires out without covering everything with powder or foam etc.

    Looks good, the vinyl flooring is a good idea for cutting down on weight as well as costs. One thing, you need to put your Carbon Monoxide detector close to the floor as it is a heavier gas so will sink.

    • @Adz
      @Adz  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks! The vinyl flooring was definitely a good move and there’s so much choice in design :) but yeah I think you’re thinking of a propane detector because the gas is heavier. Carbon monoxide is around the same density as air so they need to be placed just below ceiling height because the carbon monoxide will rise with warm air

    Very nice, mate. I am thinking to turn my SUV into a temporary camper. It's a Vauxhall and when you fold back seats down - there is no even surface. So it must be some sort of extra material that will elevate the surface so I can make a nice flat bed - inflatable matt and a sleeping bag. Maybe a storage box and a plywood sheet? Will see. I don't plan to go near police station - you know what they say: the darkest place is under the candlestick! Good vid thought!

    • @Adz
      @Adz  2 роки тому

      I’m torn between keeping what I’ve got, upgrading to a bigger van or getting an SUV and turning that into a camper. If it’s an SUV it’ll be very tight for space but could make it more fun. The only issue is space to cook indoors I think. Good luck with yours! Just gotta sit in the back for a while and picture various layouts until you think of something that’ll work. And thank you!

  • @Quilmez85
    @Quilmez85 2 роки тому

    The camper itself is really innovatively planned and very well implemented. I really like it and I am massively impressed!
    I don't know how many times you've heard this before and I don't feel like reading through so many comments... but here are 2 points you could possibly improve. 1:
    1. you should only mount the carbon monoxide sensor close to the ground. About 30 cm, but definitely at the bottom edge of your bed.
    At the height where it is currently installed, you would inhale the carbon monoxide before the sensor can sound the alarm.
    2. The bed construction is really very stable. It also looks very heavy. I for one would make a couple more bolts to the base plate. I don't currently believe your bed could withstand a rear-end collision and be held securely in place.
    I only mean well and this is not meant as flaming or hate.
    It would be a shame if something serious happened because of something like this.
    Have fun with the undercover camper!
    Greetings from Bavaria :-D

    • @Adz
      @Adz  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the comment! Although if I placed the carbon monoxide detector low down it wouldn’t be effective. They need to be placed high up. I think you’re getting carbon monoxide confused with propane. Propane is heavier than air. But carbon monoxide is lighter.
      As for the bed. The fixings on the floor are weak because the wooden floor is so thin. They’re just in place for a little bit of extra security. There’s a few plates that hold it directly into the metal wall of the van though so it should be all good. It would’ve been nice to secure it through the floor completely though, so I may do that at some point.
      And thank you!

    • @Quilmez85

      @@Adz Wow, I didn't expect a response.
      Oh crap, then I was wrong about this device.
      I installed a combi gas detector in the motorhome at the time and it had to be installed as I mentioned.
      You are right.
      That was mainly because it was supposed to warn against propane.
      My mistake.
      If you have considered the bed, everything is fine. I have already subscribed to you because I like the way you have converted the camper and it is really something different from the usual.
      I'm looking through your videos bit by bit. These are perfect for a day with a hangover xD.
      It would be interesting to see a video of what your daily costs are when you are on the road, with food, showers, laundry, fuel and everything else. The camper also costs taxes and insurance.
      In any case, thanks for your answer. I wish you a good trip and many more fans and videos :-D

    • @Adz
      @Adz  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah I thought the same about the carbon monoxide detector until I read the instructions it came with! Hopefully the bed is ok because there’s no more places to fix it now haha.
      And yeah I try to
      And sure I respond to all comments but I only get notifications for the 1st comment, and not replies that are attached to it for some reason! I think I’ll be doing a van tour video but mainly I’ll be sticking to vlogs because not all of the audience have vans so they might get a bit bored of I go into too much detail unfortunately. If I ever do a live stream I can talk about stuff like that though.
      And thanks again!

    A keyhole plate (escutcheon plate) fitted to each top of the rear doors gives a place for a brush handle with a screw in each end to be fixed across the doors when opened so securely holding them opened draped cloth over to give extended privacy space maybe standing changing area or shower space.

    You can use the alternator of the running engine to change your leisure battery via the (cigarette/12 volt accessories socket on the dash it's better if this is dead when the ignition/engine is switched off. You need to check that this is switched by the ignition switch or you discharge your starting system. But if it is switched off with the ignition your engine changes your leisure battery all the time the engine is running.

    • @Adz
      @Adz  2 роки тому

      It’s not as simple as just plugging it into a 12v socket unfortunately. It needs a split charge relay or even better a b2b charger which is what I have. I’ve also got a solar controller built into the b2b charger so it’s all good :) but thank you for the comment!

    Awesome build! Subbing. My only suggestion would be to secure the wires better. Solder and replace those splice connectors and definitely secure the ground wires better. Check out wire ferrules. Bumps and rough road will eventually loosen up connections and may even be a fire hazard.

    Looks awesome dude, I built a Berlingo Camper but it was just too small, had I have had a caddy max I might not have gone to a T5. The only thing I would say is look at a diesel heater anything electric heating is just a massive drain on the 12v. The diesel heater is a game changer! How come you didn’t get any windows, it was one of the first things I did so it didn’t look like a work van :)

    • @Adz
      @Adz  2 роки тому +1

      I definitely don’t want a large van but I think if I upgrade in size it’ll be to a t5/t6 just for a tiny bit extra storage space. And yeah I may get a diesel heater next winter but a hot water bottle does a pretty good job with a thick duvet to be fair! I would’ve got a diesel heater already but I think it wouldn’t be as stealthy when running it. Same reason I didn’t want windows.. no one ever had any idea I’m in there so it’s super stealthy haha. And thanks mate!
