- I have no affiliations with this company and they gave me nothing to post their link here. This is simply where I bought the rubber matting and the lining from.

4:56 James looking the right little builder. Stood there with his hands in his pockets. Hope he sent you an invoice for the work 🤣🤣
I paid him in cookies. 😉👍🏻
@@thefishlockerworkshop He did such a great job, I think he deserves a Hula Hoop bonus
James is a credit to you! What a star.
He makes us so proud. 💙
Hi John. Just done my VW caddy maxi. That wool Insulation is brilliant. We are in Tintagel for the weekend..absolutely toasty warm in the back.😁😇
Great video John, I’m now on my third van conversion which is now a transit mk 8. I would recommend for just to buy a power oak or the likes of that which is a dedicated power bank, it will give you all the power you need inside and outside of the van. The laborious task of running cables etc is taken away by a portable facility which as I said can be used anywhere including the boat. Another thing to consider is a diesel heater and again these can be a compact unit and transferable to boat, van and house or garage. I’ve been an avid follower for a number of years and love the content you give, maybe my turn to assist you. Take care and stay safe… oh don’t forget the co2 monitor for inside the van.
Best wishes Angus
Send me a PM to the Fishlocker mate. 👍🏻
@@TheFishLocker Angus your a top bloke Iv never heard of this power Oak I think I need one too
Ty for info
👍👍👍😜🏴🦕😁🤞✌
Nice job , John. Extra points to James for his awesome hat. Have a great weekend my friend. 👍
Thanks Charlie. 😊👍🏻
James has become a big boy now look at him helping his father this is so wholesome.
Looking good Glad you had a Junior Shark helping out
Best Regards Martin King
He was very helpful. 😉👍🏻
Brilliant John,my Dad has a Peugeot Partner, he's done it all out with a bed and is off to Spain in January (fingers crossed)......he's only 73.
A good friend of mine has done exactly the same. Got himself a Partner van to convert and he’s in his 70’s too.
This is So weird!... I drove down to Newquay yesterday to view a flat by Fistral...got the flat. The next job was to buy a decent van for my stonemasonry business; have bought a VW CADDY MAXI today and just got back with it. Having a cuppa , unwinding from the drive and watching some UA-cam, and the first vid I see is this- from my fave UA-cam channel! That is a lovely maxi you have, mine is 'shocking blue', an ex British gas van, but it's clean and tidy. I got it for the same reason as you - if I want to kip in the back after a fishing trip or if I work away then I can. I need to get a ply lining kit, but will also get the same materials as you did and repeat your process. So thanks very much for sharing the process, Im looking forward to insulating mine over xmas, ready for my move to newquay in Jan! Cheers.
A mate of mine has an ex BG blue caddy. He loves it. 👍🏻🚚
My dad did a complete camper van conversion to a Leyland Sherpa van and then drove with my mum and me to the North Cape in Norway in the van in 1982 fishing along the way. He wasn’t usually adventurous but the experience was amazing! Loved what you did here and really hope you, James and Hannah have great times in it.
Easily been my favorite camper conversion video so far, so straight forward and that price breakdown at the end makes me realise how doable this kind of conversion actually is! Really motivated to do my own sometime soon!
Money very well spent. looks great especially James’s hidden gem
I’m glad I made the effort rather than just paid someone. 👍🏻
You did a good job. Great you involved wee James. Too many young lads in the last few decades are not being taught life skills by their dads.
Brilliant video and I love the relationship between you and your little one 😍
He is my favourite little man. 😊
Great job, all you need now is a single fold up bunk for James on the right hand side so it allows for all 3 of you to camp out in the van.
Hi John
I'm from South Africa and must compliment you for an easy to follow instruction of how to install all the materials.
🤣 on first glance I actually thought you were a ventriloquist and your son was a puppet 😂🤣..they way he is just sat like a wooden doll.
Merry Christmas to you and your family, Mike&jan!.
Merry Christmas to you both. 💙
Haha the help key . Is there owt you can't do john lad? I bet its warm and toasty in there. Brilliant and inspiring. Nice one mate 👍 also good lad James helping the owld fella out🤣
Jack of all trades mate. 😉
@@thefishlockerworkshop I'm the other half of the saying..master of nowt 🐟
Crackin' job John - and well done James!
Cheers Mike.
That’s insane.. long time follower of the channel and I bought a caddy maxi yesterday..
Very nice vehicles. 👍🏻
Fair play to both you and James on a job well done.she is like a brand new van.will be cozy on those winter nights fishing.well done.
The difference it has made on sound and warmth is incredible.
About to buy my own caddyMaxi to convert to a camper and this is the most useful video I’ve come across yet! Thanks a lot 👍🏻
I’ve done a few caddy campers, great vans to do, I’ve post a couple of vids check them out
Great job on the van...and another great video. I am never as happy as I am when sitting down with a cup of coffee and watching your videos...keep on rolling👍🐟🐟
Thank you very much, I’m really glad that you enjoyed them. 😊👍🏻
Nice job John and James, don't know how you find the time as well as appearing on TV, I saw you john!!! 😉
Cracking job there bud
You can’t beat a van that you can still use to carry your nautical nic nacks and sleep in.
Greg Virgoe is the go to UA-camr for the posh fit outs. I’m hoping the vans still going as it’s a volky- I’ve welded my mk6 transit every year since you made this film but at least I’ve had the bairns away in it !
Great job, great to see your nipper helping out. That’s the van I would have gone for.
He is so much help. 🤣
You look a great dad 👍
I just do my best.
@@thefishlockerworkshop That’s all any of us can do. Time is far more valuable than any money.
good stuff you be lost without the van great for the fishing and boat gear enjoyed it
well done john great little project job well done
Cheers Barry. 😊
Excellent Job ... note the Thermal Wrap is also good to insulate single skin garage Doors ( on a budget) ....
Oh boy now you have done next you'll need a bed, kitchen, bathroom and so on. It looks like it's going to be fish locker van life!🤣🤣🤣🤣 Nice job on the work so far!👍👍😁
🤣🤣
Lovely to see you work with your young son
James putting in the graft, you're not a bad helper John. Lovely job lads 👍
Nice job John. Nice to see James helping out hope you paid him well . Did notice me didn't have any hola hoops , has the shop run out. Can see you having some good times out .James'.
No but he did work his way through a pack of choc chip cookies
As an upholsterer myself, you did a very good job indeed. Well done.
Thank you very much. It was a learning curve but I enjoyed it. 😊👍🏻
"Even with the 'help' of James"! haha
He was very helpful. 👍🏻
Really enjoyed watching that👍Thanks for sharing the video🤟
My pleasure. 😊🚚
John, you and James did a fantastic job but, where's the Chinese diesel heater? Get yourself a hard top roof top tent and an awning and you'll have a great weekend away vehicle.
We have got some great trips planned. 😊👍🏻
I’ve been thinking of doing my transit connect the same way. Met a great guy while fishing on Friday night. He does up camper vans and has agreed to supply the materials as he buys it in bulk at cost and has a lot of cut end that will do my job.
Your video has inspired me to get on with the fit. Your van looks great now John.
Thanks.
What a winner. Sounds like a great bloke to bump into. 👍🏻👍🏻🚚
Awesome job. From pounds to dollars, that’s such a great cost effective improvement. There’s probably a light bar or a brush guard for your van that you could have bough for 5x what you listed…….this is functional and practical. And good job James, keep helping out, pay attention and you’ll learn all you need to know in life.
I have definitely saved myself 3x the cost in doing it myself but also I have enjoyed the project. Take care and have a wonderful Christmas. 😊
Ideal height assistant there. Well played!
Good build 👏 I done a t4 a few years ago . Still got him
Coming in to garage for a refit this coming year . The way you done your panels is spot on
Easy to make small modifications .
Which you will do lol I think you will love the vw lifestyle
I promise you will have a bigger vw shortly lol 😆
👍👍👍😜🏴🦕😁🤞✌
I plan on moving to the UK from the US in about 2 years. This is the make/model van I am going to buy and do something very similar to. Great job.
I like the simplicity, and that it can be used for work and camping❤
The van looked great after you done it well done for being able to start and finish it as I do know some people can start but can’t finish, hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed watching you do it till the next one take care
We are looking forward to doing some overnighters in it. 😊👍🏻
Excellent, really helpful having the price breakdown. Thanks!
Great video pal VW ah iv had em 30 year they were once great but now 50/50 iv got a t5 dsg at the moment had it from new.I'v watched all you're videos from day one great content
Thanks very much. I can’t wait to get out and camp in the van.
That’s exactly what I’m planning on getting for when I retire next year. Nowt too fancy, just somewhere I can get my head down.
Father son picture on the thumbnail sold it !
Hello again from Oz, great work again John, as usual your attention to detail has proved to be a winner. I look forward to seeing any more modifications to the van.
Tight lines mate.
This will be a constantly evolving project George. I’m just in the process of making James a bed in it.
@@thefishlockerworkshop Don't make it too comfy John or you may lose your van ha ha.
You do nice work very neat and tidy.
Thank you. 😊👍🏻
You've done a great job and you've been smart too. The panels installation, you kept, will autorize you to modify the van as you want in the future. Once again great job mate!👍👏👏
That was the big thing, this will be a constant revolving project. 👍🏻
@@thefishlockerworkshop I second both comments
👍👍👍😜🏴🦕😁🤞✌
I think you already have the vw bug lol
Ever consider doing a bare john boat conversion to a "Bass boat" l'm certain you'll make your money back when you sell the finished boat. UA-cam watchers love these bass boat conversion videos.
Bass boats aren’t very popular here in the U.K.
Cracking job, about to do my SWB, also will be a working van. Love the reduced buk head too.
Well done! Can't wait for some new videos of your van camping adventures!
As soon as I’ve built the bed for James we’ll be out and about in her.
Great Video, planning to build a camper van to pull around the boat myself and this was great help!
Hi john you ok mate. Youve done a grand job there chief. All the best from grimsby.
Wow what a difference that made looks great 👍🏻 😎👍🏻🎣🌊🐟🏕
Nice video, well presented, very enjoyable. I hail from Beverley and lived in Hull for a bit, now living Surrey. I used to fish the east coat and Spurn a lot, also off the boats Bridlington and Whitby, many many happy memories. Your accent sounds very familiar to me. Anyway, good luck with the channel and tight lines.
This is a cool project, my parents have been brainstorming the same thing (but with a small American School Bus)
Now that would be a wonderful project. 😊
Great job there John.
Looking good, John!
Thank you. 😊👍🏻
Love the idea of a work van camper van idea
Great job, enjoyed the video, nothing worse than condensation if you are sleeping in an uninsulated van. One point though, the bulkhead is an important safety feature in preventing gear being thrown into the front in case of a bad crash. Would suggest keeping the passenger bulkhead and cutting small gaps for rods . .
That is something I am deliberating about. Hence keeping it behind the drivers seat.
I used dodo dead mat first to keep sound down, great product..sounds solid when you tap the panels outside:)
Great video. I'm after a caddy myself. Will want the rear seat conversion but tempted to try the carpet lining myself.
Good job looks tidy and you made it look easy
Great Job on the conversion, looks very professional
Nice job on the van you and James did a fantastic job.
He is such a helpful lad isn’t he. 😊👍🏻
Ya did a great job on that fairplay to ya
That was the best rolling out of insulation I’ve ever seen👍
When James was stood in the back I thought you was converting a hi-top VW Sprinter ….😂
Get a good diesel heater for it, fantastic for winter camping fishing trips 👍
I was just going to take my good lady to keep me warm. 🤣
@@thefishlockerworkshop honestly that won’t cut it 😂 been there and we have 2 dogs to cuddle it was still Baltic.
Nice work, great to see other people converting caddys!
Hi mate I'm currently restoring a Bedford rascal romahome look forward to seeing more videos on this
Best of luck with your project bud. 👍🏻
Great Vlog very informative 😁👍🏻
Really informative and something I would like to do , as an artist I’d like to use the space for canvases and to occasionally sleep over at site. Thanks for the breakdown of costs.
Neat job there John. Maybe add solar and a leisure battery for off-grid power without drawing on the engine battery for lighting and device charging when camping?
Absolutely cracking job there john and some bloody important points like the ppe and the insulation tips.
Love the video van life is fun you will love it
Interesting video John! Good job done there. Great to see James helping out too, especially since he can stand upright in the van & you can't! Guesing the Towbar will be next unless you have already sorted that one! Stay safe & well. 👍👍
Already got one on mate.
if you still have the old bulkhead part, trim it down on the edge , sand it and you can cover the gap and make a new pillar from it
Master and apprentice at work, brilliant results and you saved really well reusing the wood for the floor. It cost me about £100 for chipboard for my 10ftx8ft shed floor from B&Q
Good job, and your doing a good job at being a dad❤️
That was great and didn't seem to complicated at all. And not to expensive as well. Look forward to seeing you and James camping with it. All you need to do now is give the van a name lol all the best mate tight lines 🎣🎣🎣
The main thing is prep and planning. Most jobs no matter how daunting can be straight forward if you take the time to plan properly. 😊👍🏻 Tight lines mate and best wishes to your family.
Great job John, looks fabulous. Great hat James, really cool.
Brilliant! I've been thinking of doing this so I can tour the USA. I like the idea of doing it myself and no hotel fees! Plus if you stay in camping grounds you have the opportunity to meet new friends! Thank you for the info. Love this new channel!
The van looks grate well done
Looks like it came out really well. I am sure you saved alot of money on doing it yourself. Well done
Definitely 👍🏻
Great job! My wife and l want a van to hunt/fish Northern Ontario and Hudson Bay. You gave me some good pointers. We'll have to use thicker insulation. It's a bit colder here in Ontario.
For sure. But the big thing that stopped me from doing more. Is I still need to storage space as it is a working van.
Brilliant video, 👏 and the cost very reasonable 👍.
Really tidy job. Looks great.
It’s amazing how you clicked your fingers and those seats vanished! 😂
Love it just the way I would do it thanks for showing and James I great
I'm planning on doing something like this to my caddy, great video and thanks for sharing.
I was a little concerned about the floor without a bed liner but I was relieved when you put in the rubber matting.
What a top bloke and his lad, thanks for sharing 👍
I’m in absolute awe at what you did here well thought out, well done on this project
