Ooooh, looks nice. Despite there being so many other videos covering it, this is the first I've actually decided to watch. I appreciate the lack of needing extra gearing to reach the speed target.
I've been watching a lot of videos on the Mojave 4S as well, and there's 3 things that seem to stand out. 1: replace receiver with something better 2: replace steering servo (or maybe use a different servosaver) 3: cut down the rubber stone guard in the front to keep it from getting jammed up in the wheels A bonus 4th, reinforce the body, especially along the harsher mold lines (so around the blown out parts for wheel clearance)
6:20 But unlike Traxxas where you'd need an adapter, you can just use an EC5 connector. It's completely compatible with Spektrum's IC5. You don't have to worry about that 3rd cable at all. It's just there for telemetry.
Thanks Phil! Such great timing as I JUST got mine too and did a video a few days ago. I almost didnt make the video because it was gonna be the first one I saw having issues on its very first run. Wouldnt go more than 50' before Rx loss and threw a tire on the first speed run. I didnt do a review, I just let others make their choice as well. I did love how it handled and worked on dirt. Pretty sure I just got a defective Rx in mine.
Senton had the same steering issue with stones blocking the steering servo movement. We used to use the same bmx track as you do and it was always worse when there.....must be the grit size..🤔
This is an excellent review. I also enjoyed the on board camera shots. I think a lot of trucks would've had a problem when you land at an odd angle directly on the corner of the chassis. I wonder if the way the soft suspension extends in the air and then when it lands at that angle contributed to the hear hub breaking.
A great example of how far the short course truck has come. I had a number of trucks in the early days & they would all parachute & quite often flip when on a speed run. This seems to be a solid truck & a real step forward.

Hi been watching your channel for a few years now love the crawler videos but I have a question what do you use to clean your tyres before gluing as I'm only used to beadlock wheels
the steering assembly on Arrmas plastic chassis are super prone to having stuff get in there and jam it up. the little hole on the bottom lets a lot of it fall out.
there's a 3d printed insert you can buy/make for the 3s steering stone issue, there will be for this surely too, and alloy hubs with rpm arms has always done me well
Two Vorteks in our household.(mine and sons) Upgrades here are:- centre brace, high speed bearing for drive shaft, Typhon arms (wide stance) aluminium shocks/550 oil, JetKo EX MT Extreme 2.8 and Macgregor MG5921HV Servo. Smooth, responsive, stable .. Very capable 3s. Spectrum S651 from the stock BLX replaced the broken S650 servo in the boost (4x4) and THAT broke yesterday... So the Macgregor will go over to the boost and the BLX will get an even stronger servo.. Centre (Mojave) Diff may well be next. The oversized wheel/tyre combo is like gearing up... Stupidly quick... But temps run high.. Needing a good cool down between packs.
one thing I've always wondered.... i have been into nitro rc cars for a while, but getting a bit sick of dragging all the starting gear out. i want an electric car but ive flown electric planes and the batteries only last like 15 mins maximum until you need to land. what battery life are you getting on a bash on that bmx track for example? do you need to take 10 batteries with you or is two enough for a good hours worth of fun? dont want to spend a load of money on an electric car and spend all my time charging lipos
I hope you get the Team Associated SR7 1/7 scale Hoonigan soon. I would like to see you review that beast. Any word on that machine yet? At least with the spectrum systems you can use common connectors like XT90s or EC5s, unlike the Traxxas connectors which are 100% garbage and can only plug in a Traxxas connector. The spectrum connectors are actually nice. The batteries are garbage. I had two 5000 6s i bought for my EDF JET burst into flames charging with a spectrum charger. All 3 were brand new charging for the first time.
@@TomleyRC Yes! That would be awesome. Already seen the tires don't grip well, the servo is garbage and comes with no gyro like the infraction so it pulls left and right when trying to speed run and spins out trying to drift. I would be prepared for that and have a servo and gyro handy for the review to hop it up after the out-of-the-box runs if need be. My infraction servo sucked too but the gyro helped out so much keeping it straight and drifting. If it's a flop At least the Hoonigan body looks sick for other builds. lol
@@FarmerFpv well.. being Associated, you’d think it was set up well out the box. I’ll have to put some coins in the Honesty box ready to do the video 🤣
Another channel said those were recalled due to safety risk. Said they were having them all sent back to the manufacturer and offering a full refund. It looks so great but has major issues that I wouldn't expect from a TA rig.
Im not an rc basher by any means. I'm more of scaler/crawler but Back in 1998 when I started being obsessed with the Hobby, I would have loved this. The way you review, explain and run your bashers, I'm starting to get the itch! My only concern is that lipo's are not my thing. 😬 I run all my crawlers with NIMH batteries (lame to some I know) my biggest question is, how much run time to you get on these beauties with lipos?
Hmm I've noticed/have a few issues with mine. After sitting for a few days after first getting it the rear suspension sagged right down. To the point I put in all the extra collars, it's a bit better not great. The body isnt the best. It's split all along the seam lines, wings to bonnet both sides, and rear quarters to load tray. I think the body is too heavy. With the cage in it screwed down is causing it to not flex enough on big impacts? The steering slop I thought was massive when I first got it. Had an issue on the front passenger side re built that whole steering and hub assembly with new shafts. And the slop is even worse now, everything is tight and adjusted but wobbles all over the place. I hate to say it, but the maverick RX 4s is just as strong And I've jumped that just as high. But time will tell I guess. One thing for sure is 75 quid for a body is mental lol
My Senton 3s is a pain too for stones jamming the steering, but not an issue on my other stuff. Arrma, sort it! The 4s Mojave should be re-named the Mojo; seems really good. Yeah baby, yeah!
Hi. Can anyone tell me if the rectangular 'Mojave' decal on the door area can be easily removed? All personal taste of course but it just doesn't work for me, and I'd rather produce some custom replacements. Thanks
Hi Phil, love the video! Can you advise the best place to get Hot racing upgrades for these cars? They do a really good servo saver and steering parts. Cheers, Ross
hey tom, you know you dont need the fancy smart battery connectors right? just an EC5 connector, everywhere i buy my lipos from offer the same lipo with the connector on for the same price.
My senton steering will get stuck or not work sometimes because rocks or sticks will get up in the hole In the bottom of the chassis under the servo arm.
Spektrum is just an EC5 connector on their vehicles. Doesn't make you buy their batteries. I don't own any of their batteries I just use an EC5 on whatever brand I got.
We are Arrma fanboys. Today is my son's 5th birthday party and he's getting an upgraded brushless Gorgon. His last 2 birthdays he got a Fireteam and a Losi LMT. The 6s version could definitely benefit from that debris protector but I think the reason they have not added it to the 6s version is because the 6s Spektrum esc requires alot of airflow in order to work properly. This protector would restrict that airflow which would cause it to flame out. In fact, if you ever try to use tape or a chasis cover to block debris from coming in on the 6s VXL Traxxas esc, it will do more than just flame out for a minute. It will shut the esc down permanently and you will need a replacement. I've learned this the hard way during my quest to keep excessive amounts of debris from getting in the chasis. As a result, I now only buy vechiles thar offer good upfront protection from debris buildup. The final straw was when a worm made it's way into the 6s Mojave esc and I ended up having to take the whole thing apart to get it out. That said, the hands down worst vechile for debris build-up is the Maxx/Slash. Not even worth taking off-road. You'll be cleaning for hours. Bugs, dirt, mud, rocks, worms, dog hair, peoples hair, feces, grass, weeds, etc... You name it, the Maxx/Slash will collect it with little to no effort.
I’d love to see you bring the Gorgon to a dirt track… from my experience it’s so so so good at the track. Might have to run 2s otherwise it’ll be too fast 😅
Yes, the Mojave 4S has a good reputation... Of breaking easily and requiring significant maintenance. The diffs on that thing suffer a lot, I still dunno why and the CVDs wear out quite easily. Small defects aside, it is a good car to raise dust with.
at 6:30 agitchually those spektrum connectors can be used with any battery with an EC5 connector which is very common so that is way better than what Traxxass does ☝🤓
i had the same issue with steering on my new 3s senton randomly would quit steering to one side. swapout to a 9imod 25kg servo and to my regular radio fixed that mess right up.

Macgregor MG5921HV Servo.
Yay!!! The trombone sound effect!!! That’s really the only reason I tune in…..
Hopefully got one coming 🤟
I run all my crawlers with NIMH batteries (lame to some I know) my biggest question is, how much run time to you get on these beauties with lipos?
I want one!
What the heck did you use to attach the camera to the front fender? Hard to understand how it stayed attached during that gnarly tumble
Cheers,
Ross
Love the action shot’s Phil! Glad you finally got it. Arrma Tough!!
Cheers dude. Was good fun 🤟
Why are some of You guys obsessed with being first ?🤔
They live a very very boring life😂
Never got it. So what! No-one cares
One word- views
Who said first lol I was first but didn't say it lol
Because they're desperately sad individuals who need the pathetic accolade for validation.
The Ol’ suspension test is back!!
Haha
the way that suspension moves is so awesome! might need to trade in my Slash Ultimate for this one
Yes. Super smooth
It has been 4 months, but I finally did it! I traded my Slash for this beast! Just unboxed it. Gonna drive it soon!
Have you driven it yet ? I'm debating picking a Mojave or a slash ultimate!@@JT-wf8cc
problem with reinforcement is that it makes the body weaker elsewhere!
hey tom, you know you dont need the fancy smart battery connectors right? just an EC5 connector, everywhere i buy my lipos from offer the same lipo with the connector on for the same price.
My senton steering will get stuck or not work sometimes because rocks or sticks will get up in the hole In the bottom of the chassis under the servo arm.
That laugh during the first speed run says it all. Welcome to the club my friend 🎉❤
Spektrum is just an EC5 connector on their vehicles. Doesn't make you buy their batteries. I don't own any of their batteries I just use an EC5 on whatever brand I got.
My son purchased an older Takoma to work on and have. Its a small pickup by Toyota too.
I want one so badly! Did you have to solder the XT90 connectors on?
We are Arrma fanboys. Today is my son's 5th birthday party and he's getting an upgraded brushless Gorgon. His last 2 birthdays he got a Fireteam and a Losi LMT. Horizon and Arrma are king in our home but we do have lots of other brands in our collection.
You got me wanting a 4s Mojave now to pair with our 6s Mojave. Didn't even think to look twice at the 4s until now.
Are you totally sure you got those rigs for a 3 and 4 year old?? Only asking cause I recently bought my 6 month old son a Omni Terminator.
@@boduke9428 haha no it's not an excuse! He's like a RC prodigy. His interest actually got me into it when he was 2. At 3 he was backflipping his LMT on dirt mounds just like in Monster Jam.
@@FeralRC lucky man. My 12 and 4 year old daughters have less than zero interest in RC. None of my rigs interest them. The 4 year old will try and pretend for my sake but after a couple minutes she's out. I'm doing all I can with my boy to make sure he will be. So far he seems to enjoy watching me drive them around and definitely loves chewing on radios.
@@boduke9428 that's a good start. I bet he wants a Kraton 8s for his first birthday. We used ours to pull them on their sleds around in the snow this past winter.
@@FeralRC That sounds like a blast. I'm way down south and we rarely get snow. I bought a 2 kid stroller that's made to pull behind a bicycle for mine. Problem was I don't ride bicycles so I got a SCX6 to pull them with. The 4 year old will indulge me occasionally and play with her dolls in it while I drive her around the yard a couple times.
Without you announcing presses on your phone screen during speed runs I have no idea what you’re doing.
It’s a little bit hell yeah brother. Screaming bald eagles!!! Merrica, fuck yeah!! 🤣
Alan in slomo the trombone pointer and laser guns!? You are too good to us bruv 😂
Love the video as alwuas
You dont need spektrum ic5 lipo you could use ec5 connection
An EC5 plug fits into the IC5 plug off Arrma, no need for Spektrum batteries.
I had a wheel come off on the first run, and in the second the prop shaft snapped so I am waiting on a billet aluminum one to arrive so I can have a proper go on it
Nice onboard shots!
Cheers dude
I use a metal servo saver on mine and never had an issue since
how long is the battery life? also, can i mud crawl this or rock crawl it?
Yes, the Mojave 4S has a good reputation... Of breaking easily and requiring significant maintenance. The diffs on that thing suffer a lot, I still dunno why and the CVDs wear out quite easily. Small defects aside, it is a good car to raise dust with.
at 6:30 agitchually those spektrum connectors can be used with any battery with an EC5 connector which is very common so that is way better than what Traxxass does ☝🤓
Not!
i had the same issue with steering on my new 3s senton randomly would quit steering to one side.
swapout to a 9imod 25kg servo and to my regular radio fixed that mess right up.
Great truck and cheaper than the Traxxas Slash Ultimate RTR. Here in Australia Mojave is just over $900 AUD.
The connectors are compatible with EC5s
That took some massive impacts it got me thinking you need to try maby put a bigger system in it and see what you can get out of the big old thing.
Thank you BTW you got me away from selling all my trucks.
Apologies if I missed it, but any chance you do breakdown of your truck? It's a beaut.
One pack looks completely wrecked that surface isn’t good for Rcs took my typhon to a similar track chassis is ground away too! Looks super fun though
So glad you did this video. LOVE mine!
Hi Tom what battery do you use?
I'd love to see another HoBao on you channel. An offroad build and see if it can complete with the bigger brands like Losi, Associated and Tekno. Maybe Vs2 or Vs pro. Or Sst for Truggy.
I’ve got a cool Hobao project planned. Probably be next month or July
I wish so much that you did drift reviews because none of the guys that do care at all about their audio quality or they just talk endlessly about everything but the product I came to hear about
That’s Union Jack!!🇬🇧 colors!!
I thought that too 🤷, bloody idiot 😂
Throws it twenty feet through the air onto flat landings or into the face of the next jump "hmm somethings broken"
I bought the hyper go thing and the steering lag is terrible
Love how the toyota turned out mate 👌
The Toyota looks so good!
Awesome vid btw
There's a difference between bashing and crashing
