Hi Tomely! Great video as always buddy! Your daughter is scary man 😄 Definitely a girl you don't wanna cross. Anyways, love ur review of the Mad Van Brushless. Bought the truck because of your vids. Tumbs up 👍👍
After an honest review and companies don't send you stuff anymore is a badge of honour and a good sign of an unbiased honest reviewer. I want to know if it's good its good if it's not it's not. Providing a service you are, sir!
The red (plain colours in general) looks so much better than graffiti vomit the 3S version comes in. And oddly enough, your honest review of the 3S Vorteks is what made me buy one.
I picked one of these up (granite) and I love it. I have my e revo 2.0 when I want to go fast. I just wanted a 2wd brushed little basher I could jump and not worry about destroying while I wait on parts for the revo. After running a couple packs through it, the revo may become my back up car 😂 I’m so over speed, but I’m not as interested in crawlers as I do like a little speed. This fills that void and I don’t plan on going to brushless with it ever. Possibly a CHEAP brushless combo if the stock motor/ESC ever kicks the bucket. It’s perfect for doing little jumps in a parking lot which you don’t need 50+mph to do. I had tons of RC’s 10 years ago. All brushless and LiPo powered and after my break when I got back into it, I never thought I’d have as much fun with a 2wd brushed car that hardly goes 25mph.
I ordered myself the Vorteks 4x2 boost. I was looking for something to just play around with. This was $270 CDN at my LHS, while the Traxxas Rustler was $340 CDN. I also ordered the 4x4 conversion kit. Before taxes, it was $320. $20 cheaper then the Rustler and it's 4x4. The brushed 4x4 Slash and 4x4 Rustler are $450. I really think Arrma did a excellent job with this and for the price, you can't go wrong.
I am glad you are honest regardless if you receive the car as a gift or not, this is what myself as a fellow RC enthusiast and the rest of your viewers want. we want truth, not marketing blabber.
I think your review hit the mark on this truck. It will lure people into the hobby and it will be very difficult to break by kids or adults. This could be a real coup for Arrma. You made a lot of great points. I did wonder one thing. The esc receiver combo is the same as their very cheap Granite Voltage rather than the esc and receiver in their Mega series.
I just picked one up for my Grandson today. He was so excited he couldn't wait to charge the battery. Exact same car as the one your showing. I told him to just ride around in the park at 50%... Within about 5 minutes in I hear this big thud. Somehow he wedged it under an brand new SL500. The owner was standing there and said it ok. I'm sure there's no damage. I had to belly crawl under the car and compress the shocks on the vortex to remove it. It actually did damage the Vortex a little. Body hood was shaped like a V and he looked real sad. I popped the body clips off and pushed the body back to factory specs. lol Off he went. no damage .. 😃
I recommended this to a friend. Having an unlimited upgrade path is pretty amazing. As one with a hilariously upgraded 2wd slash (it was a gift), I wish I could make it 4wd.
I race RCs on track and I can tell you 2wd is more fun once you learn how to drive them. Drifting into corners and pulling out at full throttle is pure bliss. I’m so happy arrma released these
I was interested in this as a first RC truck. I am 39, but my kids would want to play with it a lot. It seems like a fair price, durable, and offers lots in upgrades.
The Arrma 3S BLX is my favorite platform. I have them all! this is a great starting platform for a newbie but if you’re deep into the hobby you know you can find good used 4WD BLX cars for this price point. great review! loving the 360 cam for action shots
Just had one delivered for my little lad, can’t wait to get it open for Xmas and have a bash with him. Tempted to get the granite boost too as I’ve got a 3s brushless setup to install and see how it rips 😎👍
So I went and got the senton and granite versions of these and given that I already had some motors and electrics I managed to upgrade them to 0.8 mod 3s slippers with Brushless motors and 4 wheel drive for a total cost of about £260 per car. Which was amazing. I'm kicking myself now though because I should have done the vorteks first. Now it's £210 just for the vorteks boost on its own!!
This is a great concept from a great company, reminds me of my old tamiya skyline that I would pull apart and clean and reverse back and from 4wd to 2wd for fun! Bonus of this set up compared to the old ECX boosts we have is you don't have a motor with wires hanging out the ass end waiting to get damaged! Its on the list:) ahead of any more wltoys that's for sure!
Last Christmas I started the RC hobby with a Senton mega. Couple months later, I upgraded it to 3s brushless. Then over the summer I got a Kraton 6s. I think a vortex blx is next!
I got one of these for my son, nothing but trouble with it so far! Only had it two weeks! After the first run out all 8 wheel bearing ceased, swapped them out under warranty, upgraded to 4x4, 2nd run and the motor burned out after 1 battery! If i were going this again I'd skip the Boost and jump straight into the 3S. The included motor isn't strong enough for the 4x4 upgrade, and the path to brushless is more than you think as you'll also need all the BLX gearing as well as new ESC, motor and receiver.
That looks good if you can upgrade the driveline that cheaply. It's a real shame that they don't just make a roller version like they do with the 6s and then you aren't even paying for a motor, ESC and radio that you don't want. Great info Phil 🙂
Hey buddy , So glad you finally got you review up of this cool little RC , ive had this since exact car since the 7th of September and ive got to say i really love it . its a Rad little vehicle , my wife bought it for me for my birthday and since ive only just come back to RC after 16 years away i adore it . ive already chucked a metal 35 kg servo , a Surpass 80a Esc and Surpass 3800kv 3650 motor , also bought a SLR300 receiver as the one that comes with the car is built in the the brushed ESC, and done a few other mods etc , like larger pinion Etc and it goes like a rocket on 3s , forgot how much fun a brushless 2wd RC can be to be fair . Cant wait for the Boost pack now to become available to purchase and im going to then go for a bigger motor again i think lol . What i like about this platform it still works out cheaper than the 3s version , but only until you take in to consideration that you dont get the adjustable turn buckles and the 0.8 mod gearing . ive nailed this Car now for a few weeks and its really holding up . i would also give some advice to some people that purchase it to check the shock oil levels as mine were quite low from the factory and also if you ok with wrenching diff oil and grease . but all being said its a great car , so much so that my Daughter has been using mine , its her first time and shes now asked for the exact same car for Christmas . very happy owner and dad now as shes 8 and ive introduced her in to the world of RC . Any plans for upgrades for her at all ????? Thanks once again for the great video ChriswithaC
Hi. I'm a newbie that was thinking of a Tamiya MadBull as my first 1/10 truggy I'm now looking at these. Currently 90% convinced an aboot to order.... I got into the hobby recently with the FMS 1/24 power wagon crawler, an then obviously the Max Smasher but, now I wanna go out side. Would this be an alternative to the MadBull or is it better? I'll deffo be going for the 4WD conversion. Or, what are other trucks I should look at for a beginner looking to spend aboot £300 (with all the spare batteries, chargers etc etc Mostly will be ragging around the woods, no skate park bashing (.....yet) Cheers an thanx in advance for any info an help Jonathan.
I bought the granite and senton for £179 each, got the 4wd upgrade kits for £35 and the 0.8 mod 3s slipper clutch for £45 each so £260 per car. I had electrics and motors already so sold the transmitter, receiver, mega motor for £45 on ebay so each car cost £215. Only difference is no metal motor plate and no turnbuckles but they are a £40 upgrade if i wanted them. Wish i jad done this with the vorteks too. Its only a couple of months later and already the vorteks boost is now £209 for the non battery version, £56 for the 4wd upgrade and £65 for the 0.8mod slipper. Crazy price hikes.
I gave my nephew who was 9 a go at my 1/10 slash. Came back 20 minutes later to broken suspension, seized Castle motor, melted motor mount around the bearing. He was driving like he stole it. 😂 Good times.
Top content as ever. I have slowed cars down for kids to use - I might consider buying one as a spare for when nephews & nieces come to visit - then I just need to a aid driving over it with a bigger, heavier, faster car.
I was super interested in this truck when it was announced but I just can’t get past how slow it is. At the end of the day, given that I’d upgrade it all anyway and just turn down the throttle for my kids, seems like a shorter path to just get the regular Vorteks (plus that sweet black body shell).
She sounds like my daughter mate... 🤣. I saw this in my local hobby shop and yeah that colour is really nice. Like you say mate I think Arrma have really thought about these cars and the target market. Best thing they have done for quite a while.
The poor stampede didnt even get a mention in the “compare to” section. It is $179 usa with no batt and charger. I have 2 older stampedes but am buying a Granite 4x4 3s soon. Never had a arma but I want to try them out
I bought a cheap ecx torment threw some money at it and it's brushless running 3s now. These are a great idea for people who don't want to spend the up front money.
Phil a quick question as you’ve the blx too. Is the boost body body thinner than the blx. I took mine out for a few 2S packs on grass and it’s split at the rear and the front tower had made a big impression on the bonnet. Just wondering if the polycarbonate is thinner on the boost to make it cheaper?
Big Rock Brushless or Vorteks Brushed and upgrade later thats the Question im thinking about. Im at Crawling and want to try a basher for fun. As i like to upgrade my Crawlers mabey this is an Option over the Big Rock i had in mind;) Thx for this Video ! Thumbs up!
Really liking these new 4x2 boost models from Arrma. Just rewatched the old vids, can't see anything Horizon had to complain about, all the companies in the cov era were ripping the arse out the prices and compared to Traxxas it was still cheaper, maybe you should of pointed that out in the video 🤷♂️
Some of the Arrmas have interest free financing on Amazon atm. I found the Granite 3s for on sale for 270 US and 5 months of payments. I got the red and white and it comes later today :)
My question is what is the handelling like on loose surface? Most 2WD vehicles are rear motor or rear/mid motor to get the weight over the driven wheels for better traction. Whenever I've had a 4WD vehicle with a regular layouts such as this boost and I lose front drive for whatever reason the handelling turns to garbage due to the weight balance being set for 4WD. This Arrma looks like fantastic quality but Im not yet convinced it's going to have balanced handelling with a 4WD layout
Reminds me of the old SportMaxx/S-Maxx from Traxxas. Slightly different market being a nitro and 20years ago but it was 2wd single speed and could be upgraded to 4wd, 2speed and reverse with upgrades. Basically could be upgraded into the full T-Maxx. I really wish this was more common as it's a good entry into the hobby. Being based on a known platform means parts and upgrades will be available for a long while where a lot of the other entry level cars will be impossible to repair in just a few years.
2WD all the way with kids RC cars. I've seen so many bent drive shafts from head on collisions. Once they've got to grips with the handling then you can upgrade to 4WD
I lost interest in RC’s a while ago but after watching a couple of your new videos I’m kinda getting back into it. Not entirely sure what I should do with my RC’s though.
Just thinking could you harvest the motormount, shocks, wheels and tyres, spur gear and slipper to go into a trashed typhon 3s? Or use the diffs, shafts and motor from the typhon and install into this? Hmm
Would you make a video showing all the differences between this and the 3s version? I'm thinking of buying a couple of these one for myself and one for my 10yo son who has other RC cars, he will want it to be flat out eventually and i was wondering how much difference their was. Is it just the 4wd, brushless esc, motor combo and a wheelie bar? Or does the 3s have other different parts?
Great review you got me to unload my hard earned cash. My kids will probably prefer this 1/10 scale easier to see. Need a bit of help, I cannot find anywhere on Arrma website what dimension is the battery tray, so what size battery can it fit securely?
0:58 yes thats exactly what they did and its much cheaper because its missing the 4x4 parts and its brushed, also how is it a new car???????, its the old one with bits missing and a brushed system, sorry the body is painted different but thats it, im not saying its a bad thing that arrma has done this im just sick of people saying its a new car
I think armma has a few great platforms I just don’t trust their plastics, but that’s adorable AND Legally binding, she’s gonna stick it to you in the royalties years from now😂😂👍.
My Daughter wants royalties for the few seconds she got in this video.... make sure you hit the thumbs up. I'm paying her 'Per 1k Views'... 😅

You'd be surprised what my kids are capable of breaking. Never underestimate the power of a 6 year old with zero throttle control.
I gave my brushless tt02 to my niece. Somehow only broke an upright that i replaced same day, she had fun :)
Yes… I have a nearly 6 yr old with Full Throttle fingers 😅

That's a pretty rad truck. I really like the upgrade ability. Reasonable price. I hope this video makes your daughter rich!

At that price I am grabbing one, since I've got some brushless ESC's and motors lying around. I don't have any RWD bashers so this would be quite fun.
Will 2 s 5200 mah 80c lipos be OK for this looking at getting one today 🤔

Compared to the Arrma Senton 4X2 which is better in handling corners?
Two of ours broke the first time out after some runs. The front shocks on both vehicle's left side broke. Easy to replace, but definitely breakable.

Yeah, if you are gonna upgrade out the box, may as well just get the BLX
Love that sixnine clip lmao great review as well. Looking for something to get my kids
I am now thinking of going this route instead of buying a big rock and being quick out of the box. Now I can build up to it ☺️
Go for it and have fun 👍😊
She sounds like my daughter mate... 🤣. I saw this in my local hobby shop and yeah that colour is really nice. Like you say mate I think Arrma have really thought about these cars and the target market. Best thing they have done for quite a while.

Yeah.. a few options out there. Never had a Stampede, but love the Rustler and Bandit
Really good.Must buy to have in the list
I bought a cheap ecx torment threw some money at it and it's brushless running 3s now. These are a great idea for people who don't want to spend the up front money.
I have that same exact same car. I've pre-ordered the boost kit.
Curious to see what the 3s brushless upgrade involves… BLX motor plate, slipper, and motor/esc combo? That’s an expensive upgrade.
Great review, bought one using your link, thanks, keep 'em coming!
I would of liked to see what difference each individual upgrade made aswell
Phil a quick question as you’ve the blx too. Is the boost body body thinner than the blx. Awesome. Yes the upgradeable route seems to be a stroke of genius, wonder how many other manufacturers will follow suit .....
Yeah, easy to think they are being lazy, but I think they are being quite innovative

Would you recommend this over a Stampede for a kid?
If they make a typhon version i might get it
also kinda annoying that its a 2 in 1 esc receiver thing
2WD all the way with kids RC cars. I've seen so many bent drive shafts from head on collisions. Once they've got to grips with the handling then you can upgrade to 4WD
I lost interest in RC’s a while ago but after watching a couple of your new videos I’m kinda getting back into it. Not entirely sure what I should do with my RC’s though.
Decide what you want to do first and you'll have much more fun. You don't want to put money into a crawler if speed runs are your thing. 😉
Yes as above… think about what you want to do with RC and then make your choice 👌
This is a great idea!! I wish they'd had this when I got my Senton Mega!! 🤷🏻♂️
Can I run a 2s lipo on stock system. Or do I have to upgrade it to be able to run 2s. I don't want to run 3s just 2s on stock if I can.
Ye u can 👍 don’t worry 😉
Just thinking could you harvest the motormount, shocks, wheels and tyres, spur gear and slipper to go into a trashed typhon 3s? Or use the diffs, shafts and motor from the typhon and install into this? Hmm
Yes the drive shafts are different on typhon though there 17mm
Would you make a video showing all the differences between this and the 3s version?
I'm thinking of buying a couple of these one for myself and one for my 10yo son who has other RC cars, he will want it to be flat out eventually and i was wondering how much difference their was.
Is it just the 4wd, brushless esc, motor combo and a wheelie bar? Or does the 3s have other different parts?
I’m a musician. Kevin Talbot sounds, scaled builders music, hoonigan clicks… lol That’s how you UA-cam!
Hay tomley
Can it handle brushless system without making it 4wd??
Yeah, that seems a bargain, honestly. Getting an RTR Arrma 3s-based truck, for under £200 is definitely a nice surprise!
How does this compare to a similar stock Traxxas Rustler? I’m debating between the two.
What is the optional gearing exactly? Is this just a bigger pinion? Can't find any reference to this online.
I think it’s a 15T. It’s listed under ‘optional’ parts in Arrmas website. ARA311135
@@TomleyRC They do a 17T too ARAC7784
Great job for keeping it real! New sub!
Just got one as my first rc car see how it goes
I detect a fellow Nico Leanord fan!? God tier clip insert at 0.40
He’s awesome. And I’m not even a fan of crazy expensive watches… my collection is pretty much Timex and Casio. #godtier
@@TomleyRC definitely an entertaining youtuber. Can't go wrong with either of those 👍
Lovely colour, beats the multi streaked jobs that seem to be standard on RCs these days.
did they cap off the front diff area cause I see lots of sand and dirt getting in there 🤔
😂😂😂 you got mad down showing that fool 🤟 Four houses righher , five houses 😂
Looks like a pretty tough truck. At those speeds it looks to hold up to some curbs and feet😊
Yes, shouldn’t do much damage at stock speeds 👌
Pretty cool rc
Haha… she’s already asked how many views 😅
What sort of run time are you getting with that 12t motor? Looks pretty nippy!
I've got 2 Granite's for the boys, they will love them
This is what Iv been waiting for for my kids wow that's there main presents done lol
0904 here in Arkansas USA!! Morning Tomley you rc buying ole top! Thanks for the review! Let's check it out!
