Will any of those dethatchers burn my grass? When is it to hot to apply in summer? I have a heavy thatch problem in certain areas of my lawn. I recently purchased my new construction home and it's been a ruff spring and summer for my new sod. Any suggestions? Would having compacted soil make the thatch problem worse? Cause that's another issue I have too.
I hope so too, im optimistic, I know its not all going to disappear so quick but I feel like the grass is growing better in the worst areas even though we've gone through 4 weeks of low 90s.
Me too, its my enemy but I'm starting to see some improvement already after only two applications, I think i can get two more aps in before it really cools off around here.
@ferraridan4883 most yard burns don't require a permit however you can generally pretty easily get one. What I did when I lived in a city was literally call the firehouse and tell them. They asked my address, my plan, my safety considerations, and my timeline. they said ok and asked me to call back after I was complete with the burn.
Makes me wonder, your plugs had zero worms in them. I wonder what would happen if at the same time you dumped 1000's of worm eggs over the yard. They should eat the thatch as well. I am lucky, our couch doesn't care about thatch or not, grows right through it and goes everywhere lol
Warmer weather is better, it stimulates microbial activity kind of like a compost starter product. If microbes are slow due to cool weather then this product will not help as much. I use it from mid spring through mid summer only if temps are high enough.
@@TurfMechanic would this product work better if you have a lawn with nothing but thatch? Trying to get rid of a dead st Augustine lawn lots of work with a ton of thatch
It shouldn't interfere with overseeding however if your thatch layer is too thick you might have trouble getting seed to soil contact, if thats the case then running a scarifier over the lawn might help to give those seeds a place to land where they can find soil to touch.
Mechanical or manual aeration is a surefire way to ensure seed to soil contact for overseeding. Im not sold yet on liquid aeration but ill be testing some products this fall. In the mean time I would absolutely consider manual/mechanical core aeration before seeding and after using a dethatcher or liquid dethatching product.
People with legit thatch problems are different than people with lots of dead grass collected under their grass canopy. Ive got a video coming out soon on electric dethatchers vs liquid dethatchers. A hard core mechanical dethatcher would simply pull all the grass up out of my lawn. The SunJoe unit you're referencing is better than Greenworks' but not for a seriously thick later of real thatch with grass root systems fully inside of it.
Oh no no, that would just tear out the grass you do have and then grow new plants on top of the 2+ inches of thatch. That’s a lot of effort wasted just to end up right where you started.
Why in the hell would you post a video about how well something works without even actually waiting to film the video until that time actually has passed.... thanks for wasting our time 🙄

OMG! 😂 that intro. Your kid sounded just like my kid.
Great follow up! Hope to see some results in another 3 weeks.

Did these ever pan out to work or did you just re-sod?
Did you talk about the toxicity of these products? Are they safe? Do they have a money back guarantee?
Thanks.....Thatch is/was my fine Bermuda grass arch enemy!

You can literally burn your entire lawn and it will grow back weed free and thatch free.
@@chasingthefish9042 Absolutely true but your neighbors will call the fire department on you. Been there, done that

Yep almost every plug I've pulled from my lawn had (half of) a worm in it
What area of the country is this? Looks super dry there. Colorado?
South Oregon- we are typically dry in the summer and our wet/snow season is in tye winter.
Does this product need cooler weather for it to work?

Is liquid thatch remover same as liquid aerators?
no
When can I dethacter

Basically for best results buy a sun joe instead and overseed
