The Hyundai i30N must be one of the most underrated hot hatches of 2022, this 280PS hot hatch is a fire-breathing monster of a car with sounds to match. The i30 N exhaust sound is a truly visceral experience that's enough to make a grown man cry, it's pure theatre.
No longer do we get an i30 N and an I30N performance in 2022, there is now just one model with all the thrills and spills you could ever wish for. The 2022 Hyundai I3- N is available in hatchback and fastback variants with both a 6 speed manual and a superb 8 speed DCT automatic gearbox as options.
I hope you enjoy this honest car review of the Hyundai i30 N; quite simply the best hot hatch I have ever driven....and bags of fun to boot!

I used to have the manual version, my profile pic is my white I30N, absolutely loved that car, best I've ever had and prob will ever have. So underated.
Nice 👍
Just to help you out Jim the dct does 0-62 in 5.4 ,and also you can get over 52 mpg if you cruise at 57 mph in 8th gear ,I have achieved this over a 50 mile trip on the m3 motorway ,most reviewers get so much wrong about these cars but it is understandable as they dont live with them ever day ,good vid m8
Ah ok, I’m just going by the stats I’m supplied with. 52 mpg is amazing. I got 34 on a motorway trip driving fairly sensibly but not hypermiling 👍
Never seen over 34mpg on a 50-60mph cruise on mine, but that's not why I bought it!
On my original manual i30N I've seen efficiency climb somewhat, with motorway journeys returning above 40mpg if I don't drive like a hooligan...
great video. i love my i30n. people will turn their nose up because it doesn't have a star or 4 rings on the front of it, but thats part of the fun of them. no one expects the performance or the sound to come out of them, only those that really know their cars and have driven one understand it. wouldnt change it for anything (unless they made an estate version 😂)
Totally agree that badge snobbery will make some turn their nose up at it; daft isn't it?
As I understand it Jim, the i30N's handling was developed on that fancy German race track, the Turdbergring or whatever they call it. And I did hear a whisper that Hyundai's N series cars are breathed on and tweaked by the guy who used to work for BMW's M division..
😂 I can quite believe that Brian, it's astonishing.
Loved this video, you nailed it explaining the purpose of these truly exciting cars👏👏👏 I've got the i20n and it's an absolute joy to climb into every day🚀🚀🚀
Thanks Claudia, I'll give it a couple of months and try to get an i20N in for review. By all accounts they are possibly better than the i30N but I have to see it to believe it. Thanks for watching and commenting, Jim.
@@DefinitelyNotAGuru I'll keep my fingers crossed that you'll get to review the i20n , I think you'll be impressed 😃😃😃
Looks just like the one I have in white, except mine is manual. I think the steering wheel controls are brilliant. My only gripe is that the mirror controls on the driver's door are not lit at night. I use mine as a daily driver and for running errands for the business. You are right about fuel economy, urban and suburban style driving. I get around 20mpg but its such juvenile fun making it pop and bang, you will be smiling as you hand over your card to pay for fuel. I absolutely bloody love mine!
Great choice mate, it's amazing fun
Very informative, love it
Thanks
I had the 1st gen, and I can confirm out of many cars I've driven, it quite literally ate them up for dinner and s*!t them out 🤣 Such a blast! I can only imagine how good the face-lift is 😍 I'm more into the idea of owning an i20N next. The i30N is a car that "if you know...then you know" never judge a book by its cover....or a car by its badge lol.
Right on!
Love it , I'd love to try one of these
It’s well worth a test drive 👍
Great review Jim
Thank you Sir
Love these hatches so very underrated, peeps still struggle with the badge instead of buying what they actually want…🤔
100% agree with you there
I’d rather buy a car that will still be living in 5 yrs, 10 yrs and 20 yrs…..😮
I've owned mine for a year now, and I love it when people think they can over take me and watch them get smaller in the rear view mirror
😂👍
Grin shift……….never shifted to Jim’s chops. Made me grin.😂
👍👍👍
love this car, cant wait to pick up mine , i am waiting already 13months + for arrive :((
It will be well worth the wait I can promise you.
I am waiting already 17months + :(((
I like it, quick and a bit under the radar. Drive the kids to school then go on a track day in N mode.
That’s it in a nutshell mate
I feel like I should lease one for a day to see what I’m missing! 👍👌
An ASBO is what you’re missing, this will get you one 😁👍
That smile on your face though 😅 come on I know you’ve felt 20 years younger driving with all that pops and bangs around town! Only joking. Very nice car, I’ve literally seen one 2 days ago, and it was an undercover police car. In a gorgeous shiny black colour
Actually the spinal damage has made me feel older! It’s a seriously great car and I miss it dearly.
Seems the 8 speed DCT is under major recall on Hyundais in the US due to faulty oil pumps .
At least they’re recalling it rather than burying their heads in the sand like some manufacturers I guess. Thanks for watching 👍
Have you driven a fiesta st yet 👌
Not a new one
I absolutely love this car, but the mpg is really poor. Maybe an N Line will be more suitable for me.
@@DefinitelyNotAGuru It’s front wheel drive. Even the Kona N crossover isn’t AWD.
@@Buck3366 😂😂😂 I think you left this comment on a day I had launched Kia Sportage review and several were commenting on the MPG so I answered it as if it were a comment about the Sportage like an idiot. I’m extremely unprofessional but know this one is FWD 😂👍👍
Got a premium version coming in due time
👍
👍👍👍
Thanks 🙏
Thank God Hyundai make the i10 boy racers eat your heart out 55mpg
👌
Just a shame they are so expensive to lease
Agreed
Nah the most underrated hot hatch is the one I'm driving, the Peugeot 308 GTi 270. Look it up or if you're local take a look at mine
👍
But unfortunately it's French. Around 30 odd years ago I once owned a Peugeot. Just once mind......
@@Brian-om2hh but that was 30 years ago just like Hyundai was. Don't diss a car based on three decades where cars were totally different
@@ianhartley6253 Well it's the only Peugeot I had, so I can't really do otherwise can I? Different or not, I won't be having another. I wouldn't have any French car. Or Italian come to that.
A Peugeot 😅
