    Just got a Scenic long range. £435 a month, 3 down, 2 year lease, 10k per annum. Been to see the car in the dealership and I’m a long term Tesla owner (Model S and 3), and blown away with this car. I can’t believe Renault of all companies have been the first company to tempt me away from a Tesla. I can’t believe I’ve ordered one but it’s that good.

    Hi Jim,
    Our Jaguar XF was written off by water damage.
    A month or so later I got a call from a dealer wanting to have the service history. It cost him about £600 to replace the electronics. Needless to say, I never sent him the history. Just shows you what goes on in the second hand car market!

    Ive had a mustang mach e since December 2021. The stated range figures are absolute nonsense. Mine will manage 240 in summer and 180 in the winter. But that isn't realistic because once it gets to 40 miles of range left you are looking for a charger..
    However mine is a company car and has been brilliant for me financially with zero tax liability and charging it at home overnight for 7p per kwh etc etc. But they arent for everyone. Love the channel.

    • @DefinitelyNotAGuru
      @DefinitelyNotAGuru  Місяць тому

      I’m really not a fan of any part of the Mustang Mach-E. I’ve not driven the latest version but the one I drove (one of the originals) is possibly the worst EV I’ve driven to date - I know a few who love them but perhaps haven’t driven as many cars as me. Life with a Tesla / Polestar / IONIQ 6 is better. You’ve probably found that speed makes a big difference to real world range too - I’d say our Tesla is 15% more efficient at 70 than 80 (not that I’ve ever done 80 in it of course).

    • @thepeoplespal5
      @thepeoplespal5 Місяць тому

      @@DefinitelyNotAGuru Which is why Teslas have very good lane discipline, drafting the lorries in the inside lane ;-) Don't worry I'll be joining them. 120 miles of range gone in 62 miles driving in XF SV8 mode will see to that.

    • @DefinitelyNotAGuru
      @DefinitelyNotAGuru  Місяць тому +1

      If they put it on the site I'll mention it but if it's important to you just divide the range figure by the battery size which are both on screen. Hope that helps. You might find goolging the real world range to be a better use of your time though to be fair.

    I have just learnt that there is such a thing as ‘gap insurance’.
    I’m gob smacked that such a thing exists.
    It feels like a legalised insurance scam to me.
    You buy insurance to drive your leased car, then if you have an accident & the car is a write off, the insurance should cover what the leasing company requires…..
    …NOT the leasing company saying they want ‘X’ amount, and the insurance company saying they will only pay ‘Y’ amount, and the driver then being responsible for the difference.

    • @DefinitelyNotAGuru
      @DefinitelyNotAGuru  Місяць тому

      Any insurance policy covers the book value of the car, this is often less than the purchase price. It’s always been this way.
      If you pay through the nose (or on many classic car policies) you can get an agreed value policy from some specialists.
      The regular car insurer doesn’t cover the cost of your finance, the fact that you paid £600 for paint protection and £2k for a an extended warranty, the fact that you may have paid well over the odds for the car, or the fact the the car salesman screwed you on your finance deal, which even at a reasonable rate will cost you to get out of early and of course their loss of earnings on your car finance.
      All that (and more) can leave people with a huge gap, this cheap (from some providers) optional policy covers it.
      No great scam.

    ID7 tourer looks far better than the saloon/coupe imo.... it doesnt have that awkward backend.
    Also I went and viewed an ID7 saloon, and IF you have a large-ish dog forget it... the rake on the back windscreen is too steep for a Labrador/Retreiver to sit in back comfortable. The tourer addresses this. It is a very LONG car (5m), so parking may not be too easy... this is 20+cm longer than an Enyaq - which many people think is a large car already.
    C40 space is compromised sunstantially, as it's not a dedicate EV platform so has transmission tunnel, which makes it a 4 seater. Boot space is not that good for what is a large car.

      @@DefinitelyNotAGuru Just spoke to ALA and they said lease is cheaper because in the event of a claim the lessee subsides some of the cost so might be an idea to mention that to set expectations. Took out a policy and they put your code in for 10% discount so hope you get your introducer fee as without phoning you only get 5% and not a signed to you
      Paid £290 for 4 years to car replacement rather than purchase price which was only £20 more, so I think that £290 spent for £40k protection for 4 years is an easy decision

      @DefinitelyNotAGuru  Місяць тому

      Hi Mike.
      I think the difference is with leasing GAP the value and the outstanding finance amount are both effectively reducing at roughly the same rate so the risk is lower overall. If you do Return to invoice cover for example over 3 years and the car is written off in month 30 the "gap" is going to be HUGE whereas on a lease cover the risk is always being offset at a more gradual rate and they're only ever going to settle what you owe rather than effectively give you enough cash to buy another car. They will also negotiate pretty hard on the settlement figure with the leasing company (I guess this is the "subsidy" they are referring to) They're the experts in any case.
      I don't get paid per sale by the way, they simply sponsor some of my content at a fixed rate, the code is there to give you a nice discount and show them how effective it is to sponsor my content. Glad you got it sorted, as you say, it seems very reasonable for 4 years' peace of mind. I've got Gap cover on both my cars.
