4:06. Mostly good information. The tutorial just lacks emphasis on shirt removal for optimal footwork. A bare torso is the secret to good footwork. I'm a little surprised you forgot to demonstrate this in the tutorial Magnus. But nice video regardless!
A series on beginner and intermediate techniques would be absolutely tremendous. Videos on these topics tend to be useful from almost every youtuber, since everyone is different. So a few videos from yourself would be very appreciated. Love the videos, man.
Hey ho everyone! Just letting you know that we have still not decided what to call our new training device, but we have narrowed it down to a couple options. We will decide one of the next days and I will contact the winner by replying to your comment. Thank you for your help!
Magnus Midtbø You should definitely get a pair of the new Scarpa Chimeras! Identical to the Dragos, except they have laces and a stronger mid section for long routes!
Also if you ever need help with branding on any products I'd be happy to help. I have a lot of experience with branding, marketing, photography, and graphic design
Magnus Midtbø Really nice video ! Very usefull ! Can you make an other one for run and jump and dyno ? (Just a suggestion of course :) ) Hello from France by the way :D
here are some notes I decided I will re-read prior to my next session, if anyone finds this useful 1. warm up the shoes by inserting just the tip 😀 2. clean them from the chalk 3. step on the tip of the toe, so you can maneuver, NOT with the side of the shoe so you have to lift the leg to change angle 4. look where you place your feet 5. climb silently to practice good footwork 6. on structures place feet as far as possible from the wall, so you push into the wall, not away from it 7. also drop heel to get more surface if it is sloped down 8. flagging 9. drop knee, be careful of tendons tho 10. toe hook - make room for the foot, train abs 11. heel hook - train hip flexibility 12. bicycle
Jacox, thanks for taking that down & saving me the time. It was such an informative video, especially for a new climber like me. I'll be using it for my training too. All the best to you & success in your climbing always.
Hi! I'm a beginner, i've found this explanation very clear and useful, i've attended a couple of climbing courses (with very good teachers) but only now i see the real purposes of some of these movements. Good job!
I just watched this video and as a newer climber I can say using some of these simple foot techniques helped me climb my first v6 and a few v5’s from being about a v3 climber these are some of the most basic but helpful things you can do on a wall
Starting out climbing and im in love. Ive been break dancing and doing calisthenics before but climbing just feels amazing to me, and this tutorial video was exactly what ive been looking for! slight drawback: no shirtless content. A perfect 5/7 from me!
@@WisdomThroughGod 🤷♂️ The V5's I climbed must have suited me very well, because they mostly felt fairly doable. Where as there are some V4's and a few V3's that seem impossible for someone of my height 6'3" and ability level.
@@kamron_thurmond yeah I'm almost 6'2 and 200 lbs. I'm trying to not gain anymore muscle or weight and just stay under 200. Where are you from btw? I climb in Canada
Very helpful thanks, I'm just getting started. And have been constantly placing my feet wrong and falling off because of it. That first tip was much needed. Thanks
I love your tips. I climbed for my 16th time today, I’m super dedicated. I completed my first V5 today, applying tips I’ve learned from both these videos and other climbers is such a major key. I am totally hooked on climbing😅😂✊🏼💯
Thanks for this video! I had never heard of bicycling, and I didn't really understand the theory behind where to place your weight with basic foot holds - it makes sense that you'd be able to pivot, but I hadn't really thought about it.
Great video Magnus, so useful for those starting out, nicely edited and to the point. For me, as a reminder of good form - especially to look at my feet when I place them! I know I am not the only one that would really like the advanced foot technique tutorials, so I look forward to that
Great video Magnus! It was really concise and high yield! A small correction on your English at 1:48 - "keep your eye on the prize" Keep up the awesome videos.
Magnus, i love the work you do. Keep it up! One really basic foot technique that I don't see often mentioned is when going for a right hand, push with your right foot, when going for a left hand, push with your left foot. Just knowing which foot left or right to use will make a big difference to most beginners. Often you can calculate the right foot beta by looking at the hands.
I wouldn't consider myself a beginner but I enjoyed hearing your seasonings for when and why specific techniques are used. I knew of all of them but not always the best time to use them so thanks!!
wow i started watching in 2019 but just now found this video. So helpfull :D i lately got some family members and friends to climb and i always see how foot technique is a big problem for beginner. So i can show them this. (i suck at explaining)
This tutorial was soooo helpful! my partner and i are new climbers and we struggle the most with our foot technique! We had to watch your video a couple times but now it makes more sense! Thank you and we're going to try these out the next time we're at the gym and hopefully post our video of our improved techniques!
Yaaas Magnus! Great video for a beginner like me - thank you! Also, as an FYI, the English expression is "eye on the prize", but I'm sure everyone understood anyway.
Beginner here. Super helpful video. Just made me think about all the boulder problems at the gym that I hadn’t considered foot techniques on. I think pretty much all of the V4s I couldn’t crack, I didn’t consider any kind of flags, toe hooks or heel hooks… going back tomorrow. 🫡
Heya Magnus, only bit that I'd add that i often see lacking is the importance of strengthening the muscles in the lower leg both for toe hooks, heel hooks and standing on really small holds. I train with shoeless bathangs on a bar (so that more emphasis is on body tension than the rubber of a shoe), and by standing en pointe (like the ballet pic you put up) without shoes. This one trains your feet for tiny footholds, but has the added benefit of training the calves for engaging on heel hooks too. Nice video, and hopefully this is helpful for another one.
cool video! spot on advice! the only extra thing i'd add about heel hooks is that it's not always the best solution when it may appear so (at least in my personal experience). i see a lot of people throwing their heel on something and trying to step up on it, when a toe on the hold would work much better (of course sometimes it's just not possible to get your toe on it). i guess it's not basic foot technique, but i see it a lot in my gym that people try to use the heel hook when it actually hinders them. just my 2 cents.
Really interesting and useful, thanks! I'm just starting out, and I find each expert climber explains things in a slightly different way and teaches me a new thing. I'll definitely change how I'm standing on volumes now!
Could you also start posting videos where you are training people especially new people like Juji & Tom in this training playlist also? It’s a very helpful to see what they are doing wrong and how you tell them to fix it! Thanks for the info!!

hahaha!
Excellent comment. The same holds true for drummers. Being shirtless is the key to being a world class drummer.
But you can maximise the shirtlessness powerboost by wearing a beanie...
@@danradu231 Say it to Joey Jordison :D

Probably the best footwork tutorial I've seen so far. Love the slow-mos, close-ups, and voice-overs pointing out key details. Thank you!

I've been climbing for over 20 years and I found this a useful reminder. Nothing new but well done and enjoyable video. Thanks!
Yes! Please more tutorials. I know I can trust you, when it comes down to technique.
Any problem I needed to use a heel hook in was a good problem in my books. It's simple, but I always found it immensely satisfying.
Thank you for breaking them down and showing each one's use.
Much more extensive than other foot technique videos I've seen. I love your attention to detail! Would love to see more like these!

Yo this video was so great. Learned a lot and emotionally moved near tears. Sweden is a must stop for my indoor climbing tour.

Cool, I'm just starting out. Hopefully this helps me crack that pesky V3 I couldn't get yesterday.

"High yield" is a term that will instantly get the attention of any medical student. We have infinite knowledge to learn and zero time to do it, haha
Also, I've always thought that climbing "quietly" didn't literally mean silently, but softly and calmly.
