Arsenal and us fans are so lucky to have him on our side. He's still so young but so mature and experienced at the same time. We can't take him for granted, Gooners. He is one special player.
@@anonymous_7788 Yup for sure. Although I watched an Ozil video the other week and Martin's still got a little ways to go yet to match Ozil's play. Some of Ozil's play was otherworldly.
Shoutouts to Martin's father. Must be a very nice feeling playing such a hands on part in developing one of the world's current top football stars that happens to be your son.
I think a lot players think too much about scanning. Your senses are naturally scanning all the time during a game (vision & hearing) but you can gather extra information about the opponent by forcing yourself to take that last extra look before receiving the ball. Which I think is what odegard is trying to get across in this vid. Scanning and decision making come hand in hand with each other. So the more info you can gather before receiving the ball, the more time you have to make a good decision.
That sort of intuitive thing is still something you develop with training over time. It’s second nature now only because as he said he’s done it for long.
Actually most players, including average players here, do not naturally think about it. They're too immersed in not screwing up their ball control. The clever ones do...
Definitely start doing this while you’re young I’ve been purposely reminding myself to try and scan the pitch all the time for the last couple of years and it is definitely something that is far more effective the longer you’ve been doing for I definitely didn’t start young enough 😂

For me Martin has something really special a bit of ozil a bit of bergkamp makes it look effortless and the work rate is off the charts it’s unfair to compare but that’s the levels my favourite Arsenal player along with Saka
Scanning's purpose is to make a right decision. A right decision is basically not losing the ball, when you are in possession of the ball. So you need to the know the solutions to what you see, it is mostly a directional control or pass away from pressure, but it can also be a directional control or pass into a space left by the defence. A right decision is as important without ball possession. We would need Saliba's explanations, understanding the opponents solutions and closing the most dangerous ones, by moving himself in the right position and direction. It takes years to practice, and most players reach their maturity at the age of 27, at the level they play. But moving to higher level, and they may have insufficient "radar" capabilities, which is seeing postions and directions of a group of opponents and partners. Unluckily, I trained for 20 years the awareness of young players to look around. Those talented who succeed in mastering awareness are rare, maybe less than 1%. They forget when they are under pressure or emotion. It does nothing if they do not care to understand the game, if the player does not understand how easy it can make the game...
Like u need to improve ur pace and when ever the opponent attacking try to like the ball up how to say he attacking u and u like swing the ball a bit.. that all
your eyes forward and watch the opponent slow down to match you but if you go slow and at your pace while watching them and the space around them , they can see behind you you can see behind them , they take little scans behind so do you , find those little details know that what’s going on around is also affecting them as they are using their peripheral vision too spot the little distractions and capitalize that’s one way, you’re in each others head. Watch a little Sergio busquets,yh basically you can see the space straight ahead all around, u can see if they’re more positioned on the left so you’ll think about if you push right how ready are they to chase you or foul you. You can tell all that by their positioning cause they are positioned to block you from where you think you’re going, so first know where your space is ,if they’re in the right then they left more space on the left , now the dribbling start with your approach towards the space add fluidity approach at infinite angles, 2 touches touches forward and to the right a little then if they give a hint with early body movement could be a feint but doesn’t change the fact that I can see their feet and body positions I can tell that that feint just gave me a 0.5 second boost to work with then we talk, utilize that space at a neutral speed and let the space and ideas move you, that way you can’t lose the ball till the 1v1 is over and if you lose the ball even you’ll instantly see the micro wrong decision that caused you to lose it and little by little you build confidence, as for me hesitation is my biggest problem but that’s more mental, I get better with each failure, the defender is just a mirror image reacting to my movement, little by little we get ahead of our shadow once you’re one step ahead them I think you’re able to carry your own weight anywhere
