EVERYONE needs a partner like Stephen who hypes you up one second and consoles you the next. I had a somewhat traumatic ending to my sons birth and it is amazing to have that kind of support.

@@izyshere4338 Not a sore subject at all! I had pre eclampsia at 30 weeks and was in the hospital until I gave birth at 35 via emergency c section. I was induced and had been in labor for 79 1/2 hours but I didn't progress and his heart rate dropped dramatically so c section was it. He wasnt breathing when he was born and I missed his first 25 hours of life because I was on mandatory bed rest to lower my BP. But hes a happy healthy almost 7 year old. 🙂

I feel like the doula complicated things too much because she gave unverified advice, and actually was quite aggressive about the doctors advice. She has no medical training, and it made me mad that she immediately tried to circumvent and confuse Laura.

As a doula myself, her doula infuriated me. She was way out of line! That is NOT what we are for! It was sad to see them talking about not having a doula in the future because of it. Doulas can be so helpful but hers seemed to be an awful fit for someone wanting a hospital birth.

I love my CNM! She’s the best! She’s super chill and is very open to what I want for my birth. I’m 39+2 and I’ve had no interventions so far (besides checking baby’s heartbeat each week). I know lots of women who have had multiple membrane sweeps already, have already set induction dates, and have their cervix checked each visit. I’m grateful that my midwife just lets my body do it’s thing.

Its really a shame that there is no regulation when it comes to doulas. It’s not like a nurse or a doctor that you can report if they are putting lives at risk. This doula needs to be stopped, because eventually she WILL cause harm to a mother and/or baby. She’s on some type of a sick power kick, acting like she’s more capable than ACTUAL highly trained medical professionals who spent well over a DECADE vigorously learning, studying and perfecting their field, and then go on to a LIFETIME of dedicated continued learning and certifications. This “doula” at most has had experience watching babies being delivered by professionals (Doctor or CNM), perhaps had her own pregnancy, and may or may not have had a brief online course from who knows where so she can say she’s “certified” (even though that means nothing because the field has no regulation). Anyone can call themselves a doula. Whether they have had decades of successfully and responsibly helping women through pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum; or whether they have never even attended a single birth.
Doulas can be an absolutely AMAZING asset for mothers to get the support and coaching they need during their labor and birth. They can offer a wealth of helpful information when it comes to positions, counter pressure, and the mechanisms of pregnancy, birth and postpartum, to help women feel supported and empowered through the entirety process regardless of how they choose to birth. They are also there to advocate for you when it comes to your own birth preferences, such as ensuring doctors or nurses don’t ask you if you want an epidural if you want a drug free birth, or reminding the medical staff in attendance that you want delayed cord clamping after baby is born (so long as it’s medically safe to do so). But as amazing and knowledgeable as they can be, they are not fit or capable to give ANY sort of medical advice, let alone contradict the medical advice given to a patient by their chosen qualified medical provider. Doctors and CNMs are the ONLY ones who are fit and capable to give you medical advice for your pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum period, as well as give you recommendations on what medications, supplements, OTC remedies, and interventions are right for you, your baby, and your specific situation. It’s absolutely appalling to hear this so called “doula” act like she has superior knowledge and capabilities compared to a doctor, and giving truly dangerous medically advice that she is NOWHERE near qualified to be giving. The thought of her continuing to behave this way with other mothers and babies, whose actual LIVES hang in the balance, is truly terrifying.

I agree with everyone who’s saying that everyone deserves a partner like Stephan. He’s so supportive & such an awesome example of an actual *partner* in the relationship.
But something that I don’t think many people consider (& I only had this lightbulb moment when it was pointed out on another UA-cam channel called EatYourKimchi - Simon & Martina- addressing how people were always saying they wanted a partner like Simon) is that when we see an amazing partner like Stephan, we shouldn’t just think “i want/we all deserve our own supportive amazing partner like Stephan” but instead we should be thinking that we should *BE* a Stephan, and make sure that we are being a supportive, awesome partner ourselves. Because through all the history of their videos, you can see that Laura is Stephan’s Stephan- she’s just as amazing & supportive & awesome for him, because it’s that reciprocation that makes it so obvious that it makes Stephan so happy to support Laura the way he does in these videos. If both partners aren’t being ‘Stephan’ for the other, the one who is doing all the supporting quickly feels unappreciated & burned out, & it’s so easy to tell when relationships are uneven that way.
So yes- we all deserve our own Stephan. But we all *also* need to make sure we are *being* a Stephan in our own relationships.
(This is random & totally not about their birth, but after seeing people say this over & over lately, I felt like pointing this out.)

I am so proud of you; you are a warrior for mothers worldwide, to have the knowledge to achieve a natural birth; birth on all fours, birth canal widening to 10cm to avoid tearing. You prove that mums of today, are still capable of having a normal birth. Having the best of both worlds, a natural birth, with the safety net of modern obstetrics, but achieving the balance between the two, as Future Learn; The Lancet ; Over-medicalization of birth "too much, too soon", sates; too early an obstetric intervention being avoided. You had started and progressed all by yourself. Advice to eat and drink, walking around and nipple stimulation were all sound advice. So proud of you, and mums like you.

I swear, if your doula was any less qualified. Pitocin is used if you’re not contracting regularly or strongly enough. You were clearly progressing just fine based on the number of contractions, the frequency of contractions, and the intensity of your contractions. When you finally got to the hospital, they definitely didn’t need to put you on Pitocin because you were doing just fine on your own.
