Yes. Our daughter needed it. That one you have was neat. Ours had lights above as well, which was crazy because they gave us a mask to put on her which would move exposing her eyes. We took turns staying awake to adjust her mask each time. Hang in there!❤️
My first had to have light therapy at 3 days old ! Had to stay overnight at the hospital. I was terrified but it definitely is common mama!! They love the lights. Im glad little Poppy is ok 🥰 she's so beautiful! 💓
My son didn’t need the light therapy but my niece did, she was a preemie which I’ve heard increases the chances of jaundice. Prayers for Poppy. Hope she responds well. Alfie will warm up to her soon enough and he’ll be her greatest protector. Congratulations on your beautiful baby girl!
Yes. That's because the liver isn't fully functional to max capacity. Babies red blood cells have a shorter life span than adult, this they have more breakdown and more bilirubin for tiny new livers to process. Most babies have physiological jaundice, which should go down with sunlight and time. But anytime there is more than 5gm% inc in a day, more than a certain level for age, conjugated bilirubin raising, palms and soles being yellow , or more than the number of days physiological jaundice needs to correct, it's a cause for concern. Light therapy, enzyme inducers work. When it doesn't, we start thinking about other causes for pathological jaundice .
My kid was a bit jaundice. Not bad. So he too was laid out in the sun for short periods of time. Loves to sit and bask in sunshine, three years later. Lol
Praying for baby Penelope & strength for mom & dad ❤️ Laura- when you were telling Steven about your friends labor w/20 hrs of Pit, I said omg that’s insane at the same time!! 😂 it is though, crazy. Hope all is well and love your videos. God Bless 🙏🏻💖
Just had my son 2 weeks ago so the timing on these videos are perfect! I wanted a natural birth as well but everything was thrown out the window when I tested positive for covid 40+2 and had to be induced. My husband and family (dad, brother, his fiancé, aunt, uncle) got sick so he couldn’t be there for the birth, luckily my mom was the only person that didn’t test positive. And although my labor went nothing like I had hoped it would it was perfect in its own weird way and my mom was absolutely amazing!

My daughter had to back to the hospital at 3 days old because she had such high levels. Then they sent us home a light bed for almost a week. She was also a terrible eater. It was the hardest thing i’ve done in my life. Glad your case was only mild.
Don't worry about bilibeds. Jaundice is common in slightly preterm babies. 2 year old was on lights after being born at 37+5 weeks he is fine now. Hardest thing was hearing his newborn pain cry when they took blood from his hands. Edit: billibeds are all lovely and warm so no wonder babies love sleeping in them!

Penelope is such a sweetie! Such a good baby girl!! My daughter just went thru it also with the bilirubin and had to use a light therapy blanket also and now everything is 100% thank god! And I remember that feeling of my boibs being engorged with milk sometimes it was so bad my boibs were so hard I just needed it out! Luckily my daughter was an eater so it never was anything major. But Laura your right your boibs are large and in charge but that's great especially when you're feeding two babies! Plenty for both of them! Woah I didn’t know they had the lights for home. Luckily my daughter didn’t experience that but it’s cool they make the beds for home so you don’t have to stay at the hospital! Technology is amazing...
I bawled my eyes out when my babies had their blood drawn. It is a fierce 'mother tiger' instinctive protective response. You are normal! You have immediately bonded to your baby. Good mother.
Poppy will be fine. It’s very common. My daughter was a preemie and needed a billi bed for a few days. The nurse came to the house to check on her because I had emergency c section and I could barely move once I got home.
I have drawn blood from a lot of babies, they seem to dislike having their heels held more than the pain of the stick. It is extra sad when they do not cry, as it means they are too sick or weak to care. They could be worried about Hemolytic Disease of Newborns, when your antibodies attack her blood, hemolyzing or breaking apart her red blood cells, instead of the very common immature liver causing the elevated bilirubin. I am glad she is doing well. Alfie will come around when he sees how MUCH she loves and adores him.
I was born at 27 weeks and was in an incubator, I’m thankfully perfectly fine I don’t even have asthma or anything, plus they said I was gonna be short...I’m like the second tallest in my class (I’m 14) apart from my friend Harrison who’s like a giant 😂
I’m so glad she’s doing so good, but I’m worried about YOU, Laura! You look so tired. Please try to get some rest. I’m sure you’re in pain. Positive thoughts your way! 😍🥰

It's completely fine, I have three kids that have had the same treatment. They are 100% healthy, no need to worry about that. I have just found out about your videos. You guys are such an inspiration! Love from Europe!
I had a scheduled induction but was already 4 centimeters when I got to the hospital. I personally feel that if your body is ready then the pitocin doesn't really make a difference ( it didn't make my pain any worse.) It's when your body isn't ready that moms struggle through labor.
I was induced too starting at 4.5 with pitocin they used the balloon to bring me from 1 to the 4.5. The doctor told me they won’t start pitocin unless you’re at least a 4 because it doesn’t have a good outcome since you’re not ready. One of the nurses started me off on it when I first got there and they shut it off lol
My oldest was born at 39 weeks and had elevated levels... they kept us an extra night, had her on the light pad, and had us doing sun exposure therapy at home the first week and she ended up totally fine... poppy is definitely strong(and so are you mama!), dont worry!
Thank you for always being so in detail about your pregnancy. I think more females and parents need to know the gruesome/beautiful process of before and after giving birth💖🥰.
I feel like jaundice is pretty common in the uk? Most parents I know have to make sure babes are drinking/peeing enough & getting enough natural sunlight to help the levels go down. X
Yes, most jaundice in babies is physiological and what you mentioned above works perfectly. It's only when it starts going in the pathological territory that we need light therapy etc
Super common! My now 22 year old was very jaundiced when he was born. We did not use a light therapy bed however...we took him outside into the sun and it worked like a charm!
My son was born at 34 +2 and it’s weird because he had high jaundice levels but he never needed light therapy, he was already in the hospital due to being early but he just never needed it. But jaundice is just super duper common. My kid was straight up orange in some of his pics
How awesome they have the bilirubin lights to have at home now!! 26 years ago when I had my daughter, you had to stay in the hospital for the baby to do that.
So glad you talk about stitches and hemmorioid pain...god, it got me so down after giving birth, excrutating..not a nice thing to deal with, it's the worst :(...thank you for normalizing it, needs to happen as its so common xx xx hope your daughter is ok :)
I had an emergency C section and we stayed 5 night at the hospital. My son was on light therapy for 4 days but he was absolutely fine when we came back home. He will turn 5 next month. I am sure Poppy will be Ok soon ☺️
@@amistewart1194 Yeah, I know. I was told evethough I really wanted natural second birth. Still having 5 C Sections is accomplishment and she is a hero! As all mothers are of course 🙂
I was born in 92 and my bellyrubion was at dangerous levels and they put a light belt on me for a week many more and I was constantly going back to the hospital to have my blood checked I was near death with the levels I had.. the light works and natural sunlight helps too
It’s true, u wudnt catch someone breaking their collar bone and then willingly repeating what they did to break it 2/3 years later on purpose... But we give birth then do it again, and again! 😂
he's not lying. I didn't have an epidural on my 2nd and it was traumatizing but years later I can't really remember the pain. probably because you have another full human to look after and worry about. lol
@@beckyjones5088 I will second this. I had an attack when i was home from college in the middle of the night. Managed to crawl to their bedroom and get out the word "hospital"
I had my oldest in the 90s and I was told he needed to be in the sun for a bit at a time. He got better fairly quickly. Also, I love that Steeeven wants to do an all natural birth... cuz he's the one pushing it out... bless his lil heart. Men have noooooo idea. Sigh.
My oldest is almost 19 so this was a long time ago. She ended up admitted back to the hospital where she was in (what looked like) an incubator that had the lights in it. She had to stay in there naked unless she had to eat. I had to change her diaper in it. I couldn’t hold her just to cuddle... that was the hardest thing I’ve ever done as a mother.
Me too... 1st time mom when the day after I took my daughter home the pediatrician told me "Her bilirubin level is WAY TOO HIGH she needs to be re-admitted to the hospital now because it could cause brain damage"... due to issues outside my control I end up back in the hospital with her alone absolutely terrified hearing & seeing her cry her little heart out because they are bending her little arm to put an IV in & secure it then put her in the bili blanket for 5 days where I could only take her out to change her diaper & feed her but since it was so serious they wouldn't even let me breastfeed her the 1st 24 hrs I had to pump & feed her with a bottle on the light... We made it through but you're both right it was the most painful heartbreaking helpless feeling I've ever experienced & wouldn't wish it on anyone
9lbs 4oz was my son. and thankfully we were at the hosptial otherwise it could've been very bad for us. he got stuck, i stopped dialating at 9cm. and after the c-section we were told i had a small pelvis and he had a very big head. over 13cm in diameter. there was no way he was coming naturally. and i am thankful for my c-section even though the recovry period sucked.
@@bekahboo3373 my daughter was small but her head wasn't positioned just right so she wasn't moving down and i wasn't dilating. She also had cord around her neck and my blood pressure went really high. If we were at home we both may have died
My first was 10lb 2ozs. She was definitely coming out through the sunroof. I was 9 days overdue and she was still transverse lie, as in lying across me. She never went head down or even bum down. Apparently only happens in 1% of births. Are you on iron tablets Laura, you don’t look well at all? Plus she and her sister were jaundiced. I was lucky in that I managed to feed them enough to avoid the light therapy but we were in and out a few times with my second as they had gotten a new machine in the hospital to check the bilirubin level and they had were very keen to use it. Plus it’s a great sign that you’re leaking and engorged Laura, you have tons of milk for your baba.
When I was born my bilirubin was so bad that they threw me into a back of a paramedic and whisk me off to another hospital to have a blood transfusion. But I'm sure everything will be fine with your baby.
So glad she is doing better! Sorry you had that scare. Hopefully you can take a break from the hospital for a while until her one month check up now! I remember night sweats all too well. Yes drenched, soaked with sweat all night long. It’s the hormones
I have Irish twins ;) its alot but its fun & its nice how close they r in the long run. I had my boys bk to bk 1yr apart(they actually had the same due date). I had my daughter 6yrs after my 1st & i kinda wish i had the 4th so she wld have had a built in best friend like my boys. Now that my boys r 18&19 its like my daughter is an only child bc they're never here lol
You guys made me laugh so much in this video! Laura, I don't blame you for crying. Honestly I probably would be too if I had a baby and they drew a lot of blood out of their ankles 😩 I'm glad Poppy is better and I hope Alfie is too ♥️
Oh my goodness Laura you poor mommy. YOU need to rest! I had 5 babies all natural. And all I remember the best advice was to sleep when the baby is sleeping. You have your mother there and Stephen is really a great guy. Though he needs a sponsor. You do not have to do everything. Poppy will be fine the Drs have a handle on it. That little girl is a doll baby and looks so much like Alfie. He’ll come around as soon as he realizes she isn’t going anywhere. I’m happy you sought help. Your a smart girl. My grandson had the “glow bed.” Very common now. It’s crazy how blue it is!
HOMEBIRTH!!! YAY!!! I"m a doula and an RN, I've attended many homebirths, they are so amazing.
Super common! My now 22 year old was very jaundiced when he was born. We did not use a light therapy bed however...we took him outside into the sun and it worked like a charm!
I love watching your blog you guys are real people! And a beautiful family too.
Fun fact: You can also have a midwife deliver in the hospital. As long as she’s certified nurse midwife and not a lay midwife.
All five of my C-section babies had jaundice 12 -11-8-3-(8months )
@@raeo7963 Wow 5 C-sections! You are a hero!
@@megangrant2597 once you have had a c section you need to have it for all births after 😊
@@amistewart1194 Yeah, I know. I was told evethough I really wanted natural second birth. Still having 5 C Sections is accomplishment and she is a hero! As all mothers are of course 🙂
That’s strange, here in Ireland they’ll give you a choice of a choice for v-bac after the first section.
Your family is so cute
You're all so blessed
I was born in 92 and my bellyrubion was at dangerous levels and they put a light belt on me for a week many more and I was constantly going back to the hospital to have my blood checked I was near death with the levels I had.. the light works and natural sunlight helps too
Girl...you got that milk thing going! So so proud of you!
My grandfather told me that child birth is the worse pain you will ever experience and the easiest to forget.
It’s true, u wudnt catch someone breaking their collar bone and then willingly repeating what they did to break it 2/3 years later on purpose...
But we give birth then do it again, and again! 😂
lol good that an old man can mansplain birth pain.
I gave birth to 2 childern.
The pain of labor is nothing compared to a gallbladder attack.
he's not lying.
Sigh.
I love how she has Alfie extended rear facing. Over 500% safer
What a fantastic name that was chosen for her!!! The Penelope’s of the world welcome her!! ♥️♥️♥️
And you feel so helpless sitting besides that box waiting... same for me 2 years ago, toughest thing ever
Yassss to homebirth. Had two myself. Seriously amazing!
My oldest who just turned 23 spent her first week of life under the lights. But it looked like an incubator ❤️
Laura, you are so TMI and I freaking love it 😂😂😂😭
I swear just in the last video you were saying you never want to do a natural labour again and now you want a home birth 😂
If i had a home birth with my daughter we both would have died
@@vgrbabe yeah for me it was give me the drugs!
When I watch your videos, all I can think of is SOULMATES ❤️
You look exhausted!!! You look like me after my first 5 days of my cleaning job having to be at the office at 5am every morning
Friggin Stephen 😂😂 so concerned about you telling him about your body
When I was born my bilirubin was so bad that they threw me into a back of a paramedic and whisk me off to another hospital to have a blood transfusion. But I'm sure everything will be fine with your baby.
So glad she is doing better! Sorry you had that scare. Hopefully you can take a break from the hospital for a while until her one month check up now! I remember night sweats all too well. Yes drenched, soaked with sweat all night long. It’s the hormones
I said I was never having another and I’m having my 3rd. They will be Irish twins lol
Love you guys xxx so happy that she is ok hope you’re recovery is good poor thing so strong xxxxxx🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
I had to put my sons crib near the big window otherwise he would have had to have the light. It’s startling but it gets better.
So excited to hear Stephen say he is on board with home birth. I think it would be perfect fit for you and you would have no regrets.
I didn’t need the light therapy for my first baby, but my second one did.
Oh my lord she is beautiful!!! 😍😘
Just make sure to take care of yourself as much as your baby! Engorgement can go bad really quickly. Hope you’re doing ok ❤️
I just love you all so much Laura!!!!!
You guys made me laugh so much in this video! Laura, I don't blame you for crying. Honestly I probably would be too if I had a baby and they drew a lot of blood out of their ankles 😩 I'm glad Poppy is better and I hope Alfie is too ♥️
That is really common Laura. Don't worry!💞💞💞
Yes Steve, you DO need to know this! You got the fun, now hear about the bum!!
omg I laughed my life off when you told about the doctors' reaction when you shit on them . LOL!!! CANT WAIT TO HAVE MY EXPERIENCE 😂😂😂
PS While I watching the rest of the video I wish you form my heart to raise your two stunning children in peaceful health / love you !!
It’s just those damned hormones. But again, rest !
Yep my second baby had the same thing with the light therapy. It’s pretty common. She’s so precious! I love her. You guys are doing great ♥️
You are so strong i hope you recover soon you gave birth to two cuties ❤ GET WELL SOON ❤
Thanks for everyone of you videos
