That doula is out of line giving you medical advice. A: Castor oil is super dangerous to you and baby. It can make the baby poop in the sac before it’s born which is dangerous, and it can make you dehydrated. B: Doulas are not there to give medical advice and go against what doctor says. I’m a doula and it surprises me some of the things she was saying. 😳

Absolutely not. Risk of infection is very minimal even up to 24-48 hours after the water is broken. Drugs and doctor intervention is way more risky then taking her time and helping her body start contracting naturally. Doctors are taught to help get more money. But you wouldn’t know that unless you have studied both sides of the argument and have had children in hospital and at home and seen the major difference. It’s so crazy how it varies everywhere. I wish they all agreed and didn’t use such unnecessary and dangerous advice/options unless it was absolutely needed. I know my obgyn will induce anytime after 39 weeks, just because. Unless he knows the baby isn’t where they need to be or mommy isn’t dilated any. I am also a L&D nurse and while I love a doula, I have absolutely 🚫 respect for a doula that thinks she’s a midwife or OBGYN. I felt extremely sorry for Laura while she was taking to that doula on the phone .. it made her confused and even more frantic than she already was. Not to mention, the advice that the doula is the COMPLETE OPPOSITE of a “safe” delivery. Anyone with an ounce of labor and delivery knowledge knows the extreme danger of a mother’s womb being exposed without her membranes intact. Advising her to walk around with her water broken is dangerous enough in itself... LET ALONE trying to induce diarrhea or as the doula said “basically you’ll just shit your baby out” (ummmmm HUH? That’s so NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THE TRUTH.. and castor oil can be WAYYYYY worse than low doses of pitocin). Talk about bringing on painful labor. Sure lady... let’s introduce gut wrenching intestinal cramps and water diarrhea for the next 24 hours IN ADDITION to God awful uterine contractions... not to mention almost 100% likelihood your baby will get a “shitty” trip outta the vag canal. Let’s just talk about how that little “sitch” could introduce an ENTIRE different realm of bacteria to the uterus and to Penelope. I’m really at a loss for words here. The actual birth remains to be seen but I’m sure Laura made the right decision to follow the directions of her physician. To anyone reading this.... please always follow the direction of a physician when having a baby. Yes, plenty of women have given birth without medical intervention but plenty of mamas and babies have had a host of issues because of that decision (if they even had a decision). My point is that if you’re going to follow the advice of a doula in place of a midwife or physician, why even seek medical care to begin with, right? If you’re that sure of a doula’s experience to direct your labor, just trust her completely and you might get lucky and have the labor or your dreams but you also may not. Be smart. Think of that baby!!! God bless. 💗💗

I'm sorry but this Doula is dangerous. There is a reason that doctors go to school for so many years before they are even aloud to touch a patient. On a lighter note I love you Laura you are an amazingly strong woman and inspire me all the time.

You deserve better healthcare providers! They both spoke inappropriately and rather than validate your feelings, that shot you down and were on opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of your care. I’m so glad everything went well for you!

Induction isn’t fun, but necessary sometimes. I get your disappointment, I felt that way with both of mine bc I wanted to naturally labor at home if possible and it just didn’t work out. I’ve got 2 healthy girls now and they’re thriving.
Can I just say I love Laura and Stephen’s relationship, they’re so supportive of each other and I just love them both! I’m so glad Penelope has arrived and mom and baby are happy and healthy! ❤️❤️

Only at 6.05 in video. I have to tell you, I labored with my first for 16 hours before epidural. Painful, but it was okay. I was so tired and that's why i finally got epi. I had to be induced w my son and it was one of the most traumatic experiences I've ever had! Those contractions were 1000000x worse than natural labor. I thought i was dying. My son became distressed i was blacking out my room was chaotic w nurses my midwife and then dr. Turned into emergency c section. Im all for natural but I'm so concerned doula said castor oil when water was broke because one of the big known issues w that is baby ingesting the meconium and becoming very sick. Thank goodness you and that beautiful baby are fine. Thanks for sharing your exp. Cant wait for pt 2!

I’m pretty sure the reason you can’t eat when you get to the hospital is just in case you end up in surgery and then there’s a risk of asphyxiation if you were to throw up while under anesthesia. That knowledge shouldn’t have been used as something negative to give another reason to be against going to the hospital

I was in prodromal labor for a week 😩
My heart goes out to you at the end of this video. I tried for a vbac a few weeks ago and after four hours pushing and baby and I had fever, they advised a repeat c-section since her heart rate wasn't looking well. I'm trying not to be upset about it, but my heart goes out to you when it doesn't go like you hoped...

Good on you Laura for being a trooper and staying positive during that visit. 💕

It's exactly what happened on my 3rd baby, but I had been leaking waters for 3 days without me realizing before i went to a sheduled growth check scan. I was rushed straight in and induced because of the risk of infection. My daughter was born that night, and we had to stay in for 2 days as it had been so long she had been without her full waters. Births go there own way, it was not what I wanted but she is safe and well. Congratulations on the birth of poppy, she is beautiful.

You can see in Laura’s eyes that she is so torn and looks almost done with the conversation about if the baby will get infected or not if she goes to the hospital. She just wants a clear answer on what to do.

I've worked in the Labor and Delivery Unit for a decade. Your obstetrician was absolutely right. Too many uneducated people googling over the internet, then in the end the baby suffers for it. Too many unnecessary admissions to the Nicu, the baby getting pricked and given antibiotics over something that could have been avoided. It is good to be informed nowadays, but having a real and good doctor is always better than unproven things you read online.
On a minor note, having broken your water for more than 18 hrs can be managed by IV antibiotics to protect the baby and mother. But you do have to hasten then birth though, otherwise the risk for infection is high. But in then end you got a healthy baby, which is the most important thing Laura. Congratulations!
