That was nuts!! We were down front standing against rails as my wife of 20 years whose very first ever show. Haha She's dealt with me and my obsession the whole time we've been together. She loved the music and the everything. Thank you Grateful Dead at my official final show at DeerCreek!!! Off to a crap ton of Widespread Panic shows. Life is good if you love music.
Holy fucking smokes. Seen various acts weir has played in over the past 15 years and this is some of the best singing I've heard him do. Hats off Mr. Weir, hats off!
❤Love you so fuckin much Bobby❤ Fucking CRUSHED IT!!! I AM SO GRATEFUL FOR YOU BOB WEIR. IM GLAD YOU DIDNT GIVE UP A LITTLE WHILE BACK AND AFTER WATCHING THIS, DUDE FUCK YEAHHHHHH ❤ I LOVE YOU BOBBY ❤ LOVE TO THE WHOLE WORLD
After watching this a bunch cause it’s so good, I hate to say it but I’m kinda let down by Otiels bass playing. Maybe it’s my speaker but it’s not as loud and definitely not as explorative as Phil and I’m still not sure he’s even playing at all during the Darkstar jam. If he is it’s like he’s holding back so much that it doesn’t look or sound like he’s doing anything but it almost looks like he just stopped when they started improvising.
I miss Jerry but I will admit that ever since the dead continued without him, and especially now, I love the little Change-Ups and little ways they make the music interesting as the years go along...
Saw a lot of shows in the 70's and 80's. Jerry was the soul of the band but Bob brought the energy every night. We are blessed that he is still bringing it. Peace.
I was there at the very front of the lawn by column F - they stole every face in the venue when Bobby started in on Dark Star v2! Still looking for mine a week later
Brother..I was by column F one step on the lawn and for a little height had the cement curb to stand on when Id take a few seconds to watch and not dance. faces stolen for sure. Bob for sure locked in our location for that as he did for the JStraw>TLEO in '91. He's done that a bit for me. He's looking right there with soulful and prankster vigor
That finale- gives me something no other dead song has given me.. I just keep playing the last 3 min on repeat.. it was the best moment of the whole tour. Words can’t describe the soul
It's just prue improv man. Yk Dark Star wasn't on the set & they sure as hell never played it like this. It's always so beautiful when the boys do some crazy improv, but this was really something completely different. I had a friend who was there & he lost his shit 😂😂 what a jam!
This was 100% improvised, the set list did not have dark star on it, Bobby led the band and they all watched him and followed. Oteil looks dosed and froze in amazement
@@skidood7244 instrumentally only and only once, in Boston. This was the only time they sang the lyrics and Jeff said it was not planned according to Dave Gans.
Can we take one moment to appreciate Mickey Hart STILL using all four limbs to drum? This man is the unstoppable force that the immovable object is gonna have to reckon with
this show was by far the best of the twelve Dead Co shows we saw on Summer '23 tour. and wow this was something I've never heard in 30 years of following the Dead it was an amazing, mind bending show. in the spinner pit where we were dancing sh** was bananas. & can I just mention once again how amazing Jeff Chimenti can be when he goes off?
I just love this! I am so grateful that Bobby gave our beloved GD a new breath with Dead and Co.🎉 This little jamb sums it all up! Till we meet again my friends! ❤
man this brought me to tears......... "night fallllll". "night falllll" Absolutely screaming natural iomprov on this one. Bobby pushing the band to expand on it. just lovely
Nope - it means your heart is open. Keep it that way at all costs !! Lotsa great stuff out there - I misted up at the Fleet Foxes show I just saw - just beautiful
@@nelsonw2096 100% I found that out pretty quickly with those live streams last year. I found there is a giant section of that between Jerry and Kieth on Truckin from Europe 72 as well. A beautiful musical arrangement/conversation
8:21 is my favorite part of this whole thing. John hits that Jerry Dark Star lick into the chorus so perfectly and looks over at Jeff right after knowing he just did something sick in a clearly unplanned moment. Bob and the boys refuse to stick to the norm no matter how many go arounds they've given this thing.
John is having the time of his life “playing on that playground” as he once said… and it’s written all over his face all the time while on stage with them.
So grateful I got to share Wrigley field show's and this amazing Deer Creek with my Mom this summer. This tour was fantastic. Out of all the shows I attended this summer this was the best one by far!!!! That Sugaree Solo blew my whistle hard!
Hey me and others were critical of slow tempo but that D S was anything but in fact iv'e never heard it played at such a up tempo it sounded close to big river time i sort of liked it
I’ve been playing both of these songs for ages… but that version of dark star, that was unexpected! No one can replace Jerry, but mad respect for John…
One of the things I loved about this show was that the security was loose and we danced freely in the aisles like in the Jerry Days. It felt so good and so right!
This looked to be a sort of on the spot thing that happened, just my guess by looking at the band. Love it though that’s the free spirit that the dead has created.
As much as I think this is cool, I'd be a little disappointed if I was a new Deadhead and this was the only Dark Star I ever saw live. Cool mashup though! I was luckey enough to see 9/20/90 and 9/10/91.

Bobby is the greatest.
I’m a 52 year old man. I cry tears of joy when I see music performed like this. Is there something wrong with me? 😭😭😭
No. Not at all, my friend. Today`s music is a soulless vacuum. Grateful Dead music speaks to the Heart.

This really is so good. The audio is amazing. Bob's vocals are great. John and the key player are really unbelievable.
Jeff Chimenti ⚡️
Agreed, great audio, Bobby is energized, John is ripping, what a great tune.
One of the great joys of D&C is listening to John and Jeff’s “conversations.”

If nothing else Mayer . Has learned how to jam.
Sadly I didn't get to see the grateful dead with Jerry, but I was present for this craziness and for that I'm grateful
Looks like John turns to Jeff right at the end and says “that was awesome”, and indeed it was
Not a psychedelic thing about one of the most psychedelic compositions ever . I’m sentimental… but not stupidly so .
