This is one of the best videos I’ve seen that explains how to change the coolant on this truck thank you for making this video. But I have a quick question. If I do the flush you mentioned there will still be water in the left and right banks right? So if I’m using a premixed 50/50 coolant should I open the drain plug that is at bottom of engine and remove that hose by the oil cooler again to release the water first? This will get it all out?

Theoretically it should drain all the water out to be able to refill with premix, but there’s the chance there’s some residual water you can’t get out. I had intentions of draining both banks when making the video, however, the bolt for the passenger side bank was so tight I was afraid of stripping it and having to wait to get a new bolt to finish the job. My old coolant was clean enough it probably didn’t need a full flush, just a drain and refill. But I felt better with the extra few steps to make sure it was clean. With concentrate coolant and measuring the old fluid you drain and the water you add (and drain) to flush, it wasn’t too hard to get the proportions close, then double check with a tester to be sure.

@@FixandMaintainThank you for getting back to me I really appreciate it. Ok just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something, but ok then will just follow that process to try to get the majority of water out after flushing. I find it interesting that you had trouble removing that drain plug though. I was able to access the service manual and see that it says that drain plug, if I am looking at the correct one, should be tightened to 15 ft lbs. Do you think someone has done a flush on this truck before and over tightened it? Or did they maybe apply the wrong sealant? Maybe red thread lock? If it’s red thread lock usually it requires heating to remove right? The service manual calls for high performance thread sealant. Unfortunately I won’t be able to work on my truck until next week, so I won’t know until then if my drain plug is also difficult to remove. But as soon as I do it I will get back to you to let you know if mine was easy to remove. It could be that maybe they did apply a red thread lock or something that is preventing you from removing it without the use of heat.

So I need to leave the radiator cap off while the engine is running to bleed the air?

I would say it’s more of leaving the cap off to while you completely fill the radiator to avoid air pockets being trapped in the engine block rather than “bleeding off” the air. But as soon as it’s full, go ahead and put the cap back on to prevent thermal expansion from causing it to overflow.

Your vids are awesome.. do you think you will flush and bleed your brake fluid anytime soon?

Thanks. I have a few other videos coming up before I’ll do the brake fluid on the Titan. I don’t drive it much, and changed the fluid in it fairly recently, sorry.

Thank you for posting this video. So after reservoir is full, we only leave the radiator open if we need to flush out any air right? Then add more if I see that the level dropped at the reservoir after flushing the air?

You're welcome! The radiator should be completely full, no air at all; and the reservoir should be to the full line when cold.
After doing the initial refill procedure with the engine running and the radiator cap off, the only time to take off the radiator cap is to verify it's full (when cold) after doing some driving; to see if any other air bubbles had been trapped and haven't escaped into the reservoir. Also keep in mind not to have both the radiator cap and reservoir caps off at the same time, as gravity can allow coolant to overfill the reservoir.
