Any object used in self defence under British law automatically classed as a weapon when used in a defensive situation.Your choice is simple do I get judged by twelve or carried by six .See any police series on television to see how police attend assaults by containing and often arresting both parties even when the first assaulter has been identified by witnesses. You are not allowed to defend yourself your supposed to be stabbed or beaten to a pulp until the police arrive from protecting migrants to defend you.By the time they arrive you’re dead seriously hurt or arrested for defending yourself.Queue the usual doubters

You are completely wrong on this Terry Hall, I was working at a property where she works for the crime division advising police officers on what is aloud and what is not. You are allowed to defend yourself like for like. She said the old bill do not like it as they don't have sufficient training hence her involvement guiding them the way.

The answer is, of course, to ensure that your attacker is in no condition to testify, and then bounce.
They can't charge you if they can't find you.

    Some additional items to suggest:
    1. Pocket umbrella (Carbon fiber, not aluminum)
    2. Golf umbrella
    3. Cattle Cane
    4. Reusable Starbucks cup (Pop the lid off and splash them with hot water)
    5. Drawstring pouch filled with salt (Some foods do need a little seasoning)
    6. Pair of Drumsticks wrapped in ranger bands
    7. Kung Fu Fans/Tessen

Modifying things is dangerous legally. Offensive weapons are things that are made, adapted or intended to injure. If something is modified then it is more likely to fall under this having been “adapted”. For example, a baseball bat would not fall under this definition. A baseball bat with a nail through the end would.

Appreciate the answer and I am the first person to agree without the police we would be in a worse state but this is about legislation and politics we have not been allowed any weapon for defence since WW1 as soon as the war was over carrying weapons were banned I’m not saying that’s bad I’m saying the ordinary citizen does not always have the law on their side to defend themselves the police are never there till after the event no crime has ever prevented by cctv . The two lady officers who were gunned down and whose family are just seeing the instigator getting life after years in pakistan I am sure would rather see them alive and healthy. We have never had a revolution because the authorities have always had the arms. But we’ve never had an Adolfo Hitler YET!

I’ve been using an adjustable Cane for years to get about because of my Knees and Back. It uses the same adjustable system as your Walking Stick, but with the bent handle. And I reenforced the lower end with a piece of steel tubing I found.
But I recommend getting the rubber support “Legs” rather than just a metal end cap. It gives you more area to push something away, it can tangle up someone else’s legs easier, and you can let it stand up on its own without you having to find something to lean against. Just that much quicker. Hope this helps.

Deep heat pain relief spray. The red can, smaller size, 110g / 150ml. Is very effective to get rid of a pain.
Make sure she practices to be able to flick of the cap in a pocket and know which way the nozzle is pointing by feeling the shape of the nozzle.
Additionally some basic groin and eye....techniques.
Being fit enough to run is very useful.
Be honest and teach basic "pattern" recognition of who to avoid. They come in all forms but some are much more prevalent than others and are best avoided.
Small legal to carry knives always have a purpose when in the sticks. You never know when you might find a poor bird trapped in fishing line. Although I wouldn't recommend it for a Wahmen or somebody untrained as it could be bad having such a thing taken off of you by an undesirable person.
Better still, avoid any situation where she would be on her own in such a place under any circumstance.
Also, bicycles are much faster than walking.
Are you able to read this helpful advice?

FFS grow up and get in the real world, don't tell me if someone broke in your home and threatened to kill you and your family you would phone the plod first? One they would not arrive and secondly if you and your family got out of hospital they would provide you with a crime number! I think that the video is very informative and I can’t see any of these items causing a real problem. The money pouches might be questioned as not many people use them and the one that you’re making they might ask why it needs a handle as it’s too big in my opinion to be classed as a belt loop. Just bear in mind that the offensive weapons act lays out that offensive weapons are made, adapted or intended to cause harm. So as long as the adaptations don’t make the item more dangerous then it shouldn’t be a problem. They could question as to why you have added weight to the top of your knob cane as this doesn’t improve the function or strength of the item.

My dad's mate had a sheleighly he used for its intended use as a walking stick back in the late 70s. The old bill pulled him, and the Northern Irish copper told him it was illegal, gave him a warning and told that if he was seen with it again he would be nicked and it would be confiscated. Cold Steel do a nice one made out of polypropylene which does not freeze your hands in the winter. But Cold Steel make knives so it is therefore a weapon say the kind constables? Are you not buying it to help you walk and you want a high quality product that is strong enough to hold your weight if you fall? Who hasn't had a standard walking stick fail on them due to stress points when losing balance causing the walking stick to bend and subsequently fail? Isn't it wise and safer to have a near indestructible polypropylene stick that will ensure that it will not fail if your knee goes out?

I had an idea for a knife that 'locks' but is still legal to carry.
Basically, it would be a standard slipjpint, but the blade could be locked in the open position by inserting a separate cross pin through a hole near the pivot.
The knife would be legal to carry as long as you didn't have the pin on you at the same time.
When you are at home and need to use the knife for a heavy-duty task, open the blade, pop the pin in and away you go.
The hole for the pin could even be 1/4" hex shaped so that the knife could be used as a driver for standard screwdriver bits.

I am a very passive person but am looking for a viable means of self-defense. Is there anything that won't kill - but will scare or warn them away (or buy time for me to leg it). A stun baton or pepper spray should be legal in the UK for home protection our laws are ridiculous. I could get a crossbow which is potentially lethal yet I can't get a sensible non-lethal. What of women living alone?! At the moment I just have my hoover attachment lol. I also wonder if "home protection" is more dangerous than just putting a lock on my bedroom door. I'm at odds with the concept (despite wanting it) as I do not want confrontation but if it happened I would not want to really hurt anybody. At-least in the US you can fire off a warning shot and the intruders will scarper (hopefully) - but then that's awfully risky too. Some say good locks and an alarm - but if somebody wants in - they will get in!

Something that comes straight from a shop, unmodified, and that is a normal object is much legally safer.
