    One thing I really loved about Ravager was that The Tall Man probably had the most lines he’s ever had in the Phantasm series and it was all cryptic and passionate!

    Angus Scrimm was one of the nicest people on the planet Earth. It is amazing to me how such an incredibly kind soul could turn on such a dark and evil character almost like flipping a light switch. Anyway, I was involved in a documentary film that as of this date (4-13-17) hasn't been released yet that took about 4 years to film. I had met Angus at a comic-con years ago before we even began filming the documentary and had told him about the project and he seemed to take a genuine interest- in parting he said "I will anxiously await the release of this film, I can't wait to see it"! I figured he was just being kind. About a year before Angus passed away we had nearly completed filming of the documentary and they had sent me a couple of teasers for the film. I remembered my conversation with Angus Scrimm, so I compiled the teasers the producer had sent me onto a DVD and sent it to Angus. I didn't really expect to hear anything back. About a month later after I had mailed the DVD to Angus, I had all but forgotten about it... I was sitting in my den one afternoon and my phone rang. I didn't recognize the out of state number and assuming it was a telemarketer I almost didn't answer it... I reluctantly answered the phone and a raspy voice asked if John (me) was there, I said "speaking", and the voice replied "This is Angus Scrimm"! I nearly fell out of my chair!!!!! He asked me all sorts of questions about the film and really did take such a genuine interest. I was so excited! It was a wonderful conversation that I will never forget... and as if that wasn't kind enough, about a week after the telephone call I got the mail one day and Angus had sent me a letter, and a signed photograph of him as the "Tall Man"! It really made me feel great- out of thousands and thousands of fans all over the world he took the time out for me like that. What a nice man. He asked me to inform him when the film was released. I wish he could get to see the film...

      @@carny1865 Thank you! The film I was speaking of in that comment is called "Mole Man", it focuses on my friend Ronald who had been dubbed the Mole Man after we did an episode of the TV series "American Pickers" together. If anyone wants to see it, it has been released and it is now available on Amazon for rent. I just wish Angus "Rory" had been here to see it. For him to have called me like that and spent all that time asking questions, showing a genuine interest, I was awestruck. He was a wonderful man.

    By the way David Hartman did a fantastic job and proved to be the perfect partner for Don. His vision of the giant spheres and the red spiked exploding sentinels really made this movie stand out on it's own from the series. His work exceeded all of my expectations.

    • @SimonMordue
      @SimonMordue 8 років тому +1

      So what! Giant spheres, whoopee fuckin' do! What's in them, Who builds them, are the dwarves flying them? And let's get back to the first Phantasm. He's crushing them down to do what? There are way too many fucking holes in Don's bullshit story. It's barely a story. If you take away all of the fluff... Liz being chased all the way through two only to be killed and never mentioned again... I could go on... If she was so integral to two's plot and had this deep connection to Mike, how come this wasn't looked into, rather than discarded and used as a weak means to tell two's story. If you are going to attempt to write something that deals with multiple dimensions, time travel and the metaphysical, you better have your feet on the ground and write something water tight. Overtime, I wished they had never made any sequels and left it at PHANTASM. It would have taken us no further forward than we are now in terms of answering questions, but it would make a great surreal stand alone piece of eccentric 70's cinema. Now it has been weakened by Don's need to keep delivering to the Fans??!!?? Really? Bullshit. It's the wrong reason to make a movie.

    Angus should have had a career as a sitcom guest star in the 80s after the first movie in 1979 sitcom producers should have been calling him every week to make a guest appearance he could have done so many fun Halloween episodes even Christmas episodes he could have played a Tall Scrooge or a Tall Santa Claus it's a shame they never thought to use him.

      Only on one timeline where he's being held captive. They left all of us hanging at the end and it's the first time that I've been in a theater as the credits began to roll and only one person got up and left. Everyone else stayed until the lights came on because it really didn't end. It literally ends at the beginning of another trilogy leaving everyone to desire the remake. Never the less, I thought it was absolutely brilliant, because ending transcends the realm of fiction depicted on the silver screen by projecting it inward to your own imagination. That's the effect that it had on me and that's probably why the theme song can still heard inside my head right now. As the Tall Man Says, "it's never over"!

    RIP to the great Angus Scrimm.....he should be as recognized for The Tall Man as Doug Bradley is to Pinhead or Robert Englund to Freddy.

    Angus Scrimm certainly was one of the best parts of the movie. Sadly the rest of the movie couldn't measure up for the most part. I was really excited when I saw the trailer for "Ravager" and I wasn't expecting a state-of-the-art blockbuster. But seeing the whole movie, the budget seemed so low that even some fanfilms look better in comparison. What I still don't understand is why they didn't even try to launch a fundraiser (Kickstarter etc.) for this. Phantasm still has a large fanbase and even I would have payed a good chunk of money to see it return in all its glory.
    So we'll see if this is the definitive sendoff for the franchise. There is still a lot of potential and unanswered questions you could base a sixth or even more movies on. But given the circumstances it's pretty unlikely this will ever happen. At least, "Ravager" gave us the original Tall Man one last time. Angus Scrimm was a very unique, charismatic actor. It would be hard to replace him. But if there are still good ideas and the brains behind this franchise could get a decent budget this time, I still would love to see more Phantasm!
