I remember one of the first reviews and reacted like he would absolutely not fit the team and vibe.... but people, can a person grow into a role and become ridiculously great at reviewing and presenting in no time! Absolutely astonishing and baffling! thanks for being on SUSD tom!
Does Tom remind anybody else of hbomberguy's comedic/narration style? I mean that as a compliment. Though hbomberguy uses a lot of cursing (which doesn't bother me but that's the main difference)
@@albinoorca its some voice similarities and flourishes, places both like to pause speech and places they both like to speed it up. Its subte but i can definitely see it.
Tom is such an amazing writer and reviewer. His language is a beautiful and so well crafted; you can tell he takes his time and takes joy in writing things out. His enthusiasm for gaming and the games he loves in infectious. His tone is calm and calming, and always respectful and humble. He’s a genius game reviewer. I admire many of them, but I can’t think of a better one. Wonderful job, Tom. Oh and the game looks magnificent. I love Flamme Rouge and will definitely get this. My only concern is it looks a bit more complicated than FR.
I absolutely love the segments where your voice overlap a little bit with itself (like the ending of one sentence will overlap with the beginning of the following sentence), the way you do it is always soooo funny.
One other facet that I really appreciate about the game is that it actually has a useful insert, which even fits the cards when sleeved! I find it incredibly rare that any game has a keepable insert and even rarer that the occasional nice one fits sleeved cards which always leaves me with a dilemma. Considering how often you are repeatedly shuffling the same small stack of cards in this game I would highly recommend the addition of the sleeves here (Mayday 7076 dark purple 56mm x 87mm work great). The only downside to the insert is that the rulebooks are slightly too tall to sit inside the insert so they lie across it, so I may trim a few milimeters off the tops and bottoms for my own sanity.
When you mentioned this in the Christmas gift video I thought it looked similar to Flamme and was very curious to see the full video. Glad it plays so well and I will certainly need to keep my eyes out for it.
We talked with the wife, that this should be next month's purchase, but (as always) i was unsure whether it was that good. Well, those doubts are gone, and THIS is gonna be the game we buy next month, alongside with Love letter which we fell in love with after we tried it at a gaming bar. Keep up this amazing work you guys are doing, your content is top-shelf as always!
Own it and diggin' it. My problem with Flamme was that people always seemed to end up in a group at the end and there was no really distance put on other players. This game add more opportunities to put some distance between you and the other players
I have this game (after many months of waiting) and it's fantastic. The basic version that teaches you the fundamentals is a little boring but it does get you into the right mindset. Once you add in the modules like weather conditions and car upgrades, and take it to a season instead of a single race, it becomes incredible tactical, exciting, and unique. There is also a really good "bot" mechanic so if you're playing with only two people (or even solo) you can add the two bots and still have a competitive game. If you can get hold of it, I agree with Tom that it's utterly worth your money.
Managed to snag this for my wife literally as soon as it was mentioned in your gift guide episode and it's looking like it's going to be the best spur of the moment Christmas gift ever! But also, why is Danny Devito in your window, Tom?
I have been collecting every auto-racing board game I have been able to find for 5 decades. After 3 plays HEAT is in the top 3 and is going to be played a lot. Not only does it feel like a race it also plays very fast, a very rare trait in a racing game. 10 out of 10 from a very picky racing board gamer.
Great video. I got this game just in time to play one lap with my wife before leaving for Christmas. We loved it and can’t wait to play it much more. I also love the 60s open wheel racing theme; those lotus cars were the most beautiful imho.
Bap! Bap! Bap! Bap! Probably the best review in a standout channel. I just played Heat for the first time today and loved it. I'm a fan of race games and I think this is the best race game that I have played. Came back here to rewatch the review and it is absolutely spot on.
Nice like a card version of formula D, one of my 'old school' faves. Love deck-building/mgmt so this is prob going to make it to game night next year, thanks as always for the suggestion!
I've been checking back for this video since Tom mentioned it in the gift recommendations video. I'm getting my copy tomorrow and can't wait to take it for a spin with the family this weekend! (See what I did there?)
Thanks for making this video. My local game shop just received a new shipment and they’ve reserved a copy for me. I fetch my copy this weekend. Looking forward to playing. Thanks, again. 😊
I might be a bit behind here, but, I just played this at a convention. Had an eye on this for some time. I simply can’t wait to get it. Fell in love instantly.
Definitely putting this game on my radar! Thanks for the great work as always, and it was fantastic to meet you at PAX Unplugged. I'll be sure to donate soon!
The SNES SF2 Ken Soundtrack at 08:40 is some of the real icing on the editing cake here -- though I feel like F-Zero would've been thematically a better fit. "Big Blue," f'evah, but maybe that's too deep a cut.
God damn it, Tom! I had convinced myself that I didn’t need this game because I love Flamme Rouge so much… but this is clearly a re-skinned Grand Tour version that was promised years ago and I’ll be damned if it’s not everything I need. Now I’m going to be out £60, which is approximately three times the cost of heating the house for an hour in 2022.
Fantastic review! Tom and all of the cool videography was brilliant! He just keeps getting better and even more engaging! I like this game a lot too! Happy holidays!
Thank you Tom for releasing this video a week after I got my copy. I have a great game and don't have to struggle to find it after you have certainly pushed numerous people to go run out and buy this game.
Can you do a couple's games top 10? I know it would be situational based on the couple, but surely that just means more easy content? :P Board games for co-op couples, board games for competitive couples, card games for couples, quick games for couples, all day games for couples, board games for couples who occasionally have people over, board games for bored couples, board games for couples who ever so slightly hate each other :P
i cant remember if the formula D trick works with this where you replace the cars with the mario kart monopoly cars and it turns into mario kart the board game
In one video I noted that Tom was wearing a shirt with a Slaughterhouse-Five reference, in the closer of this one I'm pretty sure he's wearing a Beach House tee. I've never considered a life as a stalker before, but I'm considering getting a plane ticket to Britain so that I might meet my best friend.
I know its archaic and hard to find but if you ever get you hands on Triangs Monaco I would love to see a review. Played it to death in the 1970s. Great memories and this game reminds me of it. I managed to pick up a set a few years ago to relive my nostalgia
