I have three other older games in the motor racing genre: Formula One (which goes way back to the 70s/80s I think); Gear Shift (which I have never played) and the Really Nasty Motor Racing game. The other two are immensely playable, particularly with non-serious games. They all address the push your luck aspect of racing in different ways but each have the car spin off should you fail. I think that racing games have two big advantages for them: 1. It is clear what the objective is, it is clear who is winning, it is clear who has one. Sometimes collecting victory points through a variety of means can seem an elusive / disconnected idea or a subjective goal whereas winning a race or making most money is clear and objective. 2. The whole group's attention is centred on the board not an individual tableau so it can be more engaging interactive and fun.
Replayability is such an important aspect for me when purchasing new board games. I do hope they release some expansions to add more of that to this game :)
I came away feeling the exact same about this as your both. If anything, playing it made me want to get my own copy of Downforce. Downforce gives the same feelings I had playing Heat but in a shorter time and with less setup
This easily replaced Winner's Circle and Formula Dé for me. My friend and I played championship, weather, mods... it was a great time! Two player worked so well, and the "Legends" were brilliantly designed AI opponents to run.
Thanks for this video and your other videos. I do enjoy your sense of humour and knowledge about games. I love motorsports and board games so I have ordered this for me now, so I'm sure I will enjoy it.
I got Heat Pedal to the Metal, last January or so after seeing so many good reviews. Heat keeps coming back to the table at game night! Great game for various ages, and levels of player ability. We typically have more than 4 people at game night, so this game fills that niche. I learned to play the game solo mode and was impressed with how cleverly designed the game was. We haven’t gotten too far with the included upgrades other than weather but looking forward to mods etc..I can’t say the theme caught my interest but everyone including myself love it at game night.
You are my new favorite reviewers. Love the review format. Heat just fell flat with me and my gaming group. The heat mechanic was cool but it just felt repetitive and samey, even with all the additional content.
Hi! I really enjoy your succint takes on games in the "final ratings" section. Do you, by any chance, have a searchable list of all games you reviewed, accompanied by your final ratings? If not, I would implore you to consider making it in the future! Like always -- you guys' format for reviewing games is awesome an unique. Keep up the good work!
Definitely an interesting concept regarding a review. Great game, must play but must buy? Good thing to consider. I liked the option must buy for your friend so you get to play 😂. I guess im "that friend" cause i just purchased the game yesterday lol. Im a racing fan so everything was calling to me. Hopefully it will be a great experience once i get it to the table
Nice review! My favorite racing game is flamme rouge (im a cycler 😉). Im still looking if this game has enough potential next to that one, or that they are too similar. So i guess i understand your opinion: good game that a friend should have 😅
I have played both. Heat in my opinion is the evolution of racing games from Asger Harding Granerud and that's why it is better. However I understand that if you are a cycler, the theme is important ;) /Jānis G.
Great review! I didn't expect that rating to be honest. :D I was wondering... could you do a prediction video about BGG Game of the Year or Spiel des Jahres Awards? It would be super dope. :D Also D&D is in the theaters and I'm curious if you played D&D and what do you think about it? Thanks. :)
That's a really fun idea! We both have played quite a lot of D&D and JG even saw the movie (He really enjoyed it!) . I still haven't seen it, but really hoping to do that anytime soon. /JT
Do y'all have any reviews of games that turned out to be bad? Y'all give most games really good reviews, though I think that's because y'all genuinely like these games you review. It'd just be nice to get another perspective.
I think that regards all the work they put in, playing multiple times something they didn't like and then spending a day editing video, would sound crazy. We could say that this channel has a standart, you will know that the games reviewed will be decent.
@@krisjaniszviedrans9871 I couldn’t disagree more. It would show dedication for the quality of content if time was spent analyzing and giving a fair review to a game that they ended up disliking.
There are some reviews where one of them ended up not liking the game;) can’t remember exactly which, but they do exist;);) and they are still nice but very honest about it too Edit: ok I just looked through their videos, check out shores of tripoli, dune house of secrets or canvas for some criticism;)
Thanks for the feedback! In truth, we never think about what the Final Rating might be before making a review. Lately, we've had a bunch that at least one of us enjoys, but you'll find plenty of variety if you go through our review playlist. ;) Also for us it's important to show you what the game is about and give you reasons why you personally might like it or not so we emphasize that more throughout the video than the rating.
Can't believe that your recommendation for an alternative racing game is "long shot" a horse betting game. Have you heard about Rallyman GT? That one for me would be on pair with Heat or even better in certain things for example with the modular circuits and the dice system.
@@BoardGameHangover Some time ago I was having to choose between these to games and decided to pick Rallyman GT, mainly for the customizable tracks and the dice mechanic, heat was very interesting for me but I think Rallyman GT is more fun on the long term
Hei Justin! Our point was that we don't feel a lot of replayability with it and the mechanisms on paper seem much more intriguing than they actually are. There's nothing wrong with it being on the light side, we love simpler games like "7 Wonders: Architects", but this one just didn't deliver on what we tough it could bring. But that of course depends on each person's preferences.
@Board Game Hangover I haven't played Heat, I think not as a review but you should DEF try out Rallyman on your personal time. I've shown Rallyman to 10+ people and haven't had a single complaint! Everyone loves it
You guys have an awesome system of reviewing games. Appreciate you two 🙏
Thanks for the kind words!

I have played the 70s/80s game of Formula 1 hundreds of times as a kid, and loved it.I still have a copy, its simple but a lot of fun.

Expansions should be on their way, there's certainly a lot of potential for it! :)

Glad you enjoyed the video! We can totally see that criticism, there's not that much replayability...

Same conclusions here about this game. As alternatives, I would say : Rallyman DIRT, Automobiles, and Charioteer.
Rallyman DIRT looks great! Still have to try it /JT
As a Waddingtons Formula 1 fan, this looks really very good
We have not tried that one, looks like a classic.
Man I really want this game, i hope it gets a reprint soon!
We've heard that reprint might be coming in July, but we're not 100% sure on that.
There is plenty of room in the box. I'm expecting expansions. Let's hope there is good thought to what goes into them.
Yes, there's even spare room for extra cars. Expansions are surely on the way

Hi. Great Review!
What is the size of that box. Length, Width, height? The reason I ask is because it affects shipping cost to Japan?
It's listed 30 x 30 x 5 cm at Amazon

When will we be able to get one? Smh
