He was asked:
"I know Skrillex has some releases on mau5trap, but when you first heard his songs what kind of impression did you have? Also, the other day you criticised jack U's where are u now, Don't you like the way Skrillex makes music lately or do you disagree with the stylistic changes in Skrillex's music?" - Розваги
Mau5 isn't an "asshole" at all....he's just telling the truth
+TheBlashMusic Usually those who tell the truth are labeled as 'assholes', or a 'dick', or 'prick', or whatever, b.c the truth HURTS. It's brutal even if put gently. But if it's not told, it'll still reveal itself one way or another.... it's a manifestation process...
***** Virgins of what?
***** What FORM of intelligence?
***** What? lol
***** Elaborate.
Deadmou5 is the realest producer ever. I'll just leave that there.
+Jorge Padilla deadmau5 evil twin. xD
i just wrote the same fuckin words that you wrote on deadmau5's other video .....
Greg Kulaga then learn how to spell his name right dumbshit. I'll just leave that there.
David guetta: how cute.
favor and sharon Dike he’s overrated his older stuff is good but his new stuff is meh.
Yeah, I love how when deadmau5 have a singer, its always some one not well known.
Fossegrim e
Excepto for Gerard Way
Let em Rip True. But that was amazing... And I dont feel like that was a sellout at all.
Fossegrim
Yeah, I don't mind features from famous people as long as they're memorable
Grabbitz was really good with deadmau5
bloodstainDew You beat me to it. Granted most people won't know him just by the name Gerard Way. At best that gets the Emo kid's ears to pop up. If you say, "The lead singer of, 'My Chemical Romance,' " then people freak out. Either way, it DEFINITELY wasn't a sell out, it's one of Joel's best tracks. It wasn't a publicity stunt, heck, making songs that are very fitting of the term, "Hybrid-Genre," rarely ever is a sell out. Like Crystal Castles or Caravan Palace. If anything it makes them LESS popular.
This is why I love deadmau5, not only does his music sound amazing but he's so down to Earth and not afraid of arguing with famous people over social media and the fact that he's a gamer is really awesome. Love this guy!
Skrillex is just a guy who wants to make money.. Not music, when he first started out he created something new. One album and a EP and that was it. Before he all of this he played in a successful band, but as most artists, they want to make money and not create art.. Sadly Skrillex is just an ass that cares only for money. D5 is the man.. Makes art not money.
@@GhostbustersArchives Even the Bangerang EP was shit in my opinion. I loved scary monsters and nice sprites but after that, he completely lost it.
@@GhostbustersArchives bro.. deadmau5 focuses on synth, skrillex focuses on vocal manipulation... it dosent matter if you're after money.. as long as you put out quality music then its all good... sonny is a genius in edm so it just adds on yo his success.. stop hating
@@EAGYSL stop acting like bangerang wasnt good, it was amazing.. stop the old head mentality
@@EAGYSL how is bangarang bad lol, shits hype
I'm not a big fan of him but man does he speak the truth.
+Nelson Cruz No, it's HIS truth..its all perspective
Skrillex is better when he's doing his own thing, by himself. I feel like everytime he does those big collabs, it doesn't sound as good. Joel's totally right on this.
He wants to sellout thats why he's doing collab with mainstream artists
He was very good and different with Korn tho…
That's why I stopped following him with a bunch of collabs...
I want to see a skrillex album made with no collaborations. I'm tired of that shit.
Yeah, it was pretty good back in "My Name is Skrillex" I wish he did something similar nowadays.
Harris Codini Yeah but they didn't directly influence in his style
+Lupe exactly.
Recess was really really good .-.
CL and G Dragon was the only good collab (IMO)
he wasn't kidding when he said it probably only took 20 mins to make lmao
Actually he was kidding. That, or he was wrong :/
It took alot of experimenting though. I recall skrillex saying he made more versions of this song than any he made before that the time, showing that he cared, considering it would be his biggest collaboration and release ever. Knowing that skrillex is known just as well for his vocal manipulation in ableton as his growls and choppy 'Justice' like producing, it's not much of a surprise him and Diplo came up with the high pitched chorus hook with Justin's voice. It wasn't supposed to be that intense or explosive in energy, it's was supposed to be an original vibe pop song which they fulfilled perfect. I personally thought the song could have a bridge and a better outro being a fan of complex song structure (makes every song better), but keeping it short was great for radio play publicity.
@@tash5540 yeah there's a video about how they made it and skrillex played some of the other versions
Some people do better shit in 5 mins than some people do in their entire careers.
@@tash5540 deadmau5 has a big mouth, he felt betrayed and never couldnt stand skrillex going mainstream
I have to admit I did like Skrillex's remix of The Island by Pendulum
IKR i still bop to that shit
Hahah deadmau5 actually speaks so much truth!! Love that guy! Like cmon as much as i love skrill and diplo they really did get lazy using justin in that track!
+Rodog4293 I do agree that he speaks a lot of truth, biased of the vids I've seen him speak in. At 1:35, that's as truthfully brutal as it gets- this goes for ALL music genres... also movies, shows, you name. Things get overdone & overrated b.c that "too much is never enough" scenario becomes habitual. I hate this for Skrillex b.c he has SO much potential, & I, personally, feel that Jack Ü is taking him under. He may see it as being on to of the world b.c he's in that 'pedestal' phase right now. Next, is 'knock the pawn over' phase- I just don't know when. But the media & industry are cruel like that. They don't care about Sonny. -___- They just want a fat paycheck & power! -________-
+Rodog4293 I can guarantee you that you have absolutely no idea how much work or lack there of was put into any track made by Jack U or deadmau5 for that matter. I think that instead of agreeing with everything that joel says you should think about that music is all about collaboration and making things for people to enjoy and most of all to have fun. Not to scrutinize and show hate. to clarify I love Joel and I Love Sonny and Diplo they are all complete musical geniuses and their work is incredible. I just think Joel wants to hate on whats successful and popular because he can and a lot of people who also enjoy ragging on people with success will agree. I like the fact that Jack U decided to go out on a limb and do something so insane in the eyes of their fans, i think thats what music is all about. pushing the boundaries and trying things that have never been done before. So even if you dont particularly like the song, at least appreciate it for what it is, which is a huge leap in the world of music.
+Tyler Borman I guess a lot of people (like me) see music diferently.. I don't know how to put this with out soundind arrogant and elitist so I'll just say it: we treat music with more respect than that, music is too powerful. and taking it to "pushing and breaking boundries" and taken jack u and diplo as an exapmle is reducing it too much. I tend to aproach music in a more individualistic way...maybe that's a mistake.. (?)
hal jordan Nope! Diplo is never to be trusted w. a million yard pole, in fact!!!! All he cares about is $ & power!!!!!!!
+Rohaanmusic "actually" ...
I agree with Joel, but the reason this whole thing came about is because Skrillex took Beibers song and messed with it a bit. If it was Sonny's song, im sure it would be different.
I'm just here to say: Dog Blood > Jack U
yes, I think he knows that. Doesn't sell millions though, that's the problem I guess
Big agree here.
I love the shit out of Dog Blood! Unexpected collab with Boyz Noise.
Nah
I like how honest and upfront Joel is. I don't listen to his music and thought he was a bit mean some time ago, but now I have a lot of respect for him
0.40 "Dubstep back then sounded like reggaeton"
And it's sad how bad most of it sounds these days. :'(
Is he saying that dubstep back then sounded bad or he was trying to say there's some similarities between those two genres?
Like riddim😡
@@johnbeard7252 it's where dubstep came from. Reggea/Dub with electronic Elements, heavily emphasizing on a low frequency bass.
@@axbxi mate don't disrespect riddim
He is 110% right. I will always be in the Joel's corner. He's not a bully, he just demands the best and I think he expects the best from a talent like skrillex. Skrillex used to be an out of this world sound...and lately his stuff is boring. He is light years ahead of diplo in talent and no offense to diplo,
That guy has done a lot. Jack U just sucks, it's like how many bros can we pack into a show kinda crap. Honestly dogblood was a much better project if anyone has seen them live. A lot more innovation from that duo
+Brian McDonald I get a very bad vibe from that Diplo fellow.... yes, he's done a fair share of work & doesn't mess around, but there's something about him I sense sinister. :|
+Shay Mary Lauren Mayberry doesn't like Diplo either.
calabiyou Well, IDK Diplo personally to say if I dislike him or what not, but I do get VERY sinister vibes from him...
And where did you learn Mayberry doesn't like him? O.o
+Shay Mary Everyone has there own opinion, maybe Diplo is OK. On one of Mayberry's TYCI podcasts she indicates she doesn't like Diplo or Eminem.
calabiyou Ah, I see what you mean! :P Well, from what I know of Diplo, I don't like him so far, but IDK him personally to actually say that... I wonder if she's met them tho?
*I feel bad for poor Eminem tho. :|
People really hate on deadmau5 for having an opinion
Bcz most of them are sk fans lol they don't wanna to accept any negative criticism.
The problem here is that joel's "opinion" is factually incorrect. Justin Bieber was the one that wrote the damn song in the first place lol
Skrillex Mumbai Power is probably what deadmau5 was talking abt when he said Skrillex is lazy on where r u now. Cuz this Skrillex guy can literally change music culture
saying its lazy is just his ego talking, its not a competition, its about what the producer wanna do and accomplish
the video is 5 years old, so no
He forgot to mention the "very expensive" sounds which was just ridiculous.. I actually like the Beiber track but I take Joel's point that he thought they could do better. Unfortunately Joel has a habit of making controversial and absolute statements when he really has a nuanced and refined point that somehow gets lost in translation. He's really saying that Diplo and Skrillex are super talented and he expects a lot from them. They know that but the way he makes the point isn't ideal, calling it shit on twitter :(
Joel has a habit?? It's called 'Honest debate'. It's not a 'Habit'
Him saying "that's not dubstep to me" is a sign of how familiar he is with the genre... To him, Dubstep is stuff like Skream and Digital Mystikz. Not this "FM synth aids" as he describes.
Except he said pre-Skrillex dubstep was "reggaeton with electronica elements", which shows he didn't know what the fuck he was talking about
Should have said dark-ish sounding garage but I totally accept that he fully knows what old and new dubstep sounded like.
@@joechapman8208 well, he's was not that wrong, i mean, his description fits antiwar dub really well for example
yeah, "dubstep" pre skrillex was boring as fuck, fucking Skream? Lmao oh my god, miss me with that sleepy ass shit. Might aswell listen to fucking lofi. If you wanna turn up nothing's gonna beat modern edm production. Drum&Bass, Future Bass, Future House, all variants of electronic house and dubstep, etc
@@the_Googie I wasn't a dubstep fan bar the odd track here and there, so you can't actually annoy me with your comment. Deadmaus is still fully wrong about this as he so often is about dance music culture
That's why I respect deadmau5 a lot! He gives bulls for no one. Not even the biber guy. And he actually makes he songs. Joel... Respect
Different era. Crazy how times change.
how did i only find this now... he's saying some real shit out here. he's not bullying or looking down to diplo n skrillex, he even said that these two probably made this song in 20 minutes and for me that sounds like a compliment.
Deadmau5 i have so much respect for you, i can't say i like all his tracks, but as a producer i respect them, for the amount of effort he puts into him
Wow i just love him
The Myon & Shane 54 remix of Where Are Ü Now is BRILLIANT
Gabriel Moss Everything they touch is brilliant! :D I haven't even listened to it, but i already know I'll love it.
MS54 releases the best trouse
yeah i see where he’s coming from with the money play but justin was really good on that record and it basically launched his comeback so it was nice to see
Agreed. This clip was from 2015, be curious if deadmau5's opinion has changed. To me read as him jealous that Skrillex got a smash hit with Justin Bieber but that's just my arm chair POV
@@strawberryfrogforever fax , joel wasn’t being rude or anything but he def seemed kinda jealous. who cares if skrillex and diplo collabed with one of the biggest artists in the world, the song sounded super good 😹
5 years later and I agree, its not so much anything wrong with producers doing pop songs, but when prominent producers create pop songs that don't really have any of the character they are original for, it could just be any other song. If Where Are U Now was just justin beiber and didn't have the Jack U artist label I wouldn't have noticed, compare that to say Major Lazers (diplo) song with Beiber which sounds 100% like Major Lazer, it has a lot of Justin pop elements but its a Lazer song, same with any of Skrillex's songs with artists. Even with Jack U, Take U There was much more an edm song that sounds like Diplo and Skrillex and not a Kiesza track produced by them. I just think this song represents what happens to a lot of EDM producers when they want a hit and its kinda boring making pop songs for the artist rather than featuring them on their own style of song,
The more I watch Joel and follow him in his various efforts it really just seems like he wants competition.
I think i know what he means with real dubstep. "zoology" by skrillex and knife party. holy guacamoly that song is soo good.
What he means is real dubstep was dubstep before Skrillex made brostep.
He's more talking about stuff like Burial, Coki, Mala, Benga, etc.
@@kenshin4113 Pinch, Chestplate, Tectonic, Moving Ninja.... All the OG south london dubstep basically. Actual dubstep.
I feel like Virtual Riot brought dubstep to a whole new level
VichieVersa he may be the most under appreciated artist in bass music
It's not dubstep lmao
@@jamiedixon8255 Virtual Riot makes dubstep, riddim, Future bass, Melodic Dubstep
Dude, yeah he did. He still has made the best dubstep song I've ever heard to this day, which is his remix of Follow You by Au5 and Danyka Nadeau
Eh that's debatable, but he is a good artist
yup he is not mad at skrillex he just want the old skrillex back
i miss old times...
"Skrillex and Jack Ü" isnt jack u = Skrillex + Diplo
First Subscriber! Thanks for finding this.
the point here is to make good music that's all. It doesn't matter if its jack ü or Skrillex or deadmau5. You can't compare any music. Music is a state of mind, you never know when it hits or who it hits. Everyone perceives things differently.
he is real
And i love that
I am a die hard fan of Skrillex
BUT DeadMau5 has a right to speak of what he thinks and he is not fake
Thats all!!!!!!!!!\
NO HATE
Deadmau5 is envious of skrillex nuff said,,he just doesn't want to admit it,,,dude signed someone and become bigger than him and later become bigger by doing his own thing and collaborating with multiple artist and styles... skrillex has got Grammies and his very own sounds and created a type of electronic genre...
True
Fair criticism. I still love the song, but it was designed to be attainable in pop music. The rest of the Jack U album is pretty... different and more artistic, but Where Are U Now is formulaic. I can see why he didn’t like it.
Nerd
deadmau5 is a real one
ere ar u ow dat i ned u
he knows his shit, but dubstep started in the grime scene in the UK in 1998ish. When skrillex showed his album in 2010 dubstep had already evolved into what we call dubstep now, its just skrillex did a slightly, yet revolutionary form of dubstep that brought it to the US chat attention. This stuff was happening way before in the UK so the US and Canada was way behind.
+Adam Weaver You say he knows his shit (which he does) but then you act like he doesnt? I mean he obviously know what old school dubstep sounds like and apparently Skrillex handed him a CD with stuff like that on it
Adam Weaver He probably knows that. I don't think he was saying that Skrillex was the creator of dubstep, or even brostep, but rather it wasn't really a thing in the U.S. and Canada until he began producing it. It existed sure, but not many Americans and Canadians knew about it. Kind of like Electro-Swing nowdays.
Yeah his description about what dubstep was seems a bit off to me.
Joel isn't being mean...
He's telling the truth...
I understand what he's saying, but at the same time the song was actually a Bieber song initially, called 'The Most', which Diplo and Skrillex then remixed.
im quite surprised for the comments here saying deadmau5 just told the truth, ot that he's the realest, when its just his opinion. opinion based on how he felt by skrillex going mainstream, like all of you dubstepheads do.
he assumes its all about money, when skrillex was never just dubstep. he is a producer who's still relevant til today, and thats because of him doing different stuff and being a beast everytime.
its all about PRODUCING and thats something deadmau5 doesnt or didnt seem to understand. for him everything is about ego and money, and if he feels good for never changing his style to sell more or for money, good, but those are not the only reasons to do different shit
2023 gang
yeah he is right
I for one am a huge fan of joel and sonny, and tbf joel has a good point, the collaboration with justin was a song that sonny did probably shit out in an hour or so, I partly think that sonny is so busy trying to get to as many places as possible e.g. multiple collabs every fucking month that he dosent have time to make solid solid mind blowing tracks anymore!
+Diamonds but fuck did he ever make some good shit back in the day. Still haven't found a sound like his that i enjoy nearly as much :(
Justin beiber wrote the song years before, it was a remix....
Your the best
No one is gonna talk about that Skrillex is Jack Ü
Is there a full video of this asqme?
Man speaks so honestly, raspect.
I think the fact that Justin got to work with Skrillex (and Diplo) for "Where are you now" and "Sorry" contributed much more to his carrier, than to theirs. Hence, the "who got money and relevance" argument is irrelevant for me. They are artists, they can do whatever they want with their carrier. Were these two records huge? Yes. Did people jam to them? Totally. Who cares if it was dubstep, pop or whatever...
This just sounds like DeadMau5 is upset that Skrillex does not have the same musical taste or ideas as him
but they got two Grammy's out of it
Haters will be haters
I want that Angry Birds hoodie he's wearing.
The thing was, skrillex was always into pop as a little kid. But he somehow thinks having an open mind means trying things out, whatever that may be, I personally think diplo fucked skrillexs sound up so bad.
Soooo true about the Justin Beiber collab
😍😍😍😍

agreed
I'd probably be on Joel's side most of the time, he's still a little immature but this guy really is the one who brought EDM to the mainstream, his word will always carry a great deal of weight no matter what, period..
the 1st thing you said about Jacku about getting JB in there is kind ryt ,they could have gotten a new/ rare vocalist.. They actually did> Kai and others.. At that time Jb was failing, Skrillex gave him a hand. And just cuz he is know/sold well outta America his number managed to capture more ppl fast.. Hence the money that u talking about.. Even Kai Got some recognition.. I think those two where like *Lets get a vocalist we worked with. There Diplo got Kai and Skrillex got JB.. That's how it looks to me, but ur in the industry, u may know the inside story better

truth
I still like Sonny, however I fully agree that his ways have changed and not entirely for the better. I also notice Sonny isn't as happy as he used to be when he makes music. he's changing himself to please people. He's trying to make everyone like him, I see so many people do this, even i do it in some situations, but it breaks my heart to see him taking this sort of turn. it would be different were it not for the fact that he isn't as happy with what hes doing. You can tell he's just trying to please other people.
well basically every dubstep producer changed his style to trap because they still want to be popular and drubstep is let's say dying out while trap is at the top and i don't even like trap
Deadmau5 , the truth has been spoken !
+andru haritonunicul It's HIS truth..what do u mean with THE truth. Its his opinion
i wanna see deadmau5 make a song with Veela :S
yeah Skrillex

**SLAMS FISTS ON TABLE** *_REAL. TALK._*
I wish Skrillex stayed as he was.
All i care is that they are able to properly enjoy what they do with themselves, that's all I want for any human being. Skrillex has placed himself in a cage of judgement.
Y'all are funny. 🤫
Where are u now is still a great song imo and Justin Bieber def nailed it w the vocals
all of its world 🌎 🌍 🗺 class
I mean... its justin beibers song in the first place... of course he nailed it lol
I completely agree with Joel because,he may have an attitude, but it's nothing personal.im 13 and. Completely understand where he's coming from.skrillex used to be the thing.now all of his stuff sounds the same.dont get me wrong I love both of these artist but, people shouldn't say he's being rude to skrillex.he just knows skrillex is more capable of doing better.
it's all about DJ Mustard
deadmau5 is Telling The truth And skrillex Really lost his fans as a Dubstep Producer
DeadMau5 “let” Skrillex do some stuff...lol...thanks for dropping the album tho, COVID Hi5
When it released I had the same perspective, but 8 years later, after becoming a music producer, and after watching the mini-doc about the song, I think this is such an ignorant take. Justin was the one who started the process, they did multiple drops until the found the right one. I imagine if this was a song released by a new singer and artists at the scene... It would get that kind of hate.
hes right thou
he just not based on money and it is the real music!
i think bieber sent them chords/vocals and the track was then made around that. How they lazy by using justin when he sparked the idea?
More than that; justin wrote the damn song lmfao. He released the original version years before the jack u version came out lol
I disagree, the first time i heard where are u now i was blown away. The formula is the same as most songs, verse, drop, verse, drop the dolphine noise was something new to me, the mix of the track is superb and skrillex did a really great job on the stereo spreading of the instruments. Joel is just being salty for no solid reason imo, he makes great music tho
+Anon 0 I don't think he's talking about anything like that. He's just simply thinking and listening to it as a song and thinks it has nothing really special about it.
+Anon 0 And for your reasoning in favor of the song...I just don't see how it stands out in those ways either. It's just like average top40 quality to me. Could you take a top40 song and tell me how it's not also those things?
Jay Sean i could but i dont have the time to tell you :)
No worries. We'll probably disagree anyway.
They did not “sh*t that out” in 2 minutes. Madmau5
interesting....
interesting
it was mind blowing and it was a perfecct choice to work with jb
It’s all chit in chit out even after 40 year’s
Mau5trap got 2 grammys from skrillex, So I appreciate skrillex for that although i do agree with joel that Skrillex became repetitive
This Was Uploaded On My B-Day... FUCK
happy belated Birthday lol
THIS IS SKRILLEX!!!
Joel’s right about collaborating with Bieber to sell a bunch of records, but I 100% believe Sonny also saw it as an artistic endeavor. Sonny seems like a very open and sweet dude. I think he loves the creative process so much that he’s not very cynical about the mainstream, the complete opposite of Joel.
But I side with Joel. Art is not entirely subjective and derivative is derivative. Sonny can choose to make what he likes. Unfortunately for me that means I’m not interested in his new stuff. Oh well
Wow all the comments lol! First off, I never liked, Skrillex, diplo, and can't stand Bieber, but anyone who sits there and says that what they did is shit, is either unmusical, deaf or just plain dumb. People are too swayed by ego - this deadmau5 guy is clearly unsure and uncomfortable about what Skrillex is doing and taking it quite personally, regardless of what a cool facade he is presenting himself in.
Straight hatin
gentrification core
I miss oldskool dubstep ...
I disagree. Seeing Justin Bieber in that collab completely surprised me. Why? Beacause he's a fucking joke. He's super talented, nothing to say about that, and yes, I know he only sings he does'nt write his own songs and stuff, but still, he got off to such a bad start, he was litterally a meme.. I think he got in that collab beacause skrillex and Diplo believed in him to be better than we might think, and that was a hit for me. I never thought I'd say this, but thanks to sunny's help through where are u now and sorry, I've become a Justin Bieber fan. And yes, they made mega bucks on those hits, bit I think that was just the benefit of a awesome original collab .
hmmmm.. I am a big fan of deadmau5. But it seems he's not happy when the music is extorted and the synths clip and the sound is just generic and rowdy, yet where are you now is much more artful and respectful of sound space. I think he should give it more credit
Deadmau5 (Joel)… i got a question for you…. What are your opinions on Hardwell? I've never really heard you talk about other DJs/producers! PLZ do a coffee run with Hardwell!!!!!!!!
+jacob malet hardwell pushes play and puts his hands up in the air.
+Cole Ballantyne pretty much every mainstream house DJ. Bassnectar is pretty much one of the few DJs that actually play live sets and actually puts effort into producing his music. The likes of Hardwell and Tiesto don't do shit except just push play and wave their hands around, I can't even consider that real music and they bring great shame to the art of producing electronic music and DJing
+Cole Ballantyne no that's dimitri Vegas and like mike...
hardwell is one of the best
fuck hardwell Deadmau5 - 2018
That just sounds stupid. Skrillex as an ”underground” or not mainstream artist was getting an oppurtunity to work with the biggest artist in the world, why wouldn’t he?? That was just a proof of how appricieated his music was becoming. Anyone would be stupid to think otherwise
