- Presenting here is the video footage of Loco pilot operates the Electromotive Dual Cab Diesel freight locomotive and applies Dyamanic Brake to stop the train.
About Dyanamic Braking:-
Dynamic braking is the use of an electric traction motor as a generator when slowing a vehicle such as an electric or diesel-electric locomotive. It is termed "rheostatic" if the generated electrical power is dissipated as heat in brake grid resistors, and "regenerative" if the power is returned to the supply line. Dynamic braking reduces wear on friction-based braking components, and regeneration lowers net energy consumption. Dynamic braking may also be used on railcars with multiple units, light rail vehicles, electric trams, trolleybuses and electric and hybrid electric automobiles.

Brilliant capture ! The rheostatic braking effort applied by the LP is added to by the A9 compressed air brake applied with his right hand . This is the KNORR- CCB Blended Braking system.
He is also using the ring plunger on the SA9 brake handle.
At 2:20 we see a double yellow signal aspect...maybe that is why he slowed down. Thanks for this shoot of the controls operated....most footplate videos just stare mindlessly outside showing scenery which I can get from a window seat in a coach...or open door ! Waste !

Is that ring plunger you mentioned is the “independent brake bailout “?

@@TrainManFromOZ Yes it is the independent brake bail off ring....I Googled KNORR-CCB but did not understand the purpose..it is fixed on the SA9 handle and not on the A9 brake...this means it activates the direct loco brake and not the train brake..but what it does I don't understand.
@@rajarams5988 Hi. Its a bit difficult to explain the process in short. I don't know how much you already know about train brake valves, but shall try to explain a bit. The SA 9 brake valve, I'm assuming is the Independent Brake valve. The loco brake or independent brake is the same one. The reason it is called the independent brake is that it can be applied and released " independent " of the air brake along the rake consist.
if the Driver makes an application through the SA9 lever, only the loco brakes will apply. If the Driver makes an application through the A9 , the brakes on the locomotives and the whole rake consist will come on. For various reasons, it is advisable to have the loco brakes released and leave the brakes on the rake "on" while braking a long / heavy train at speed. For this reason, an independent bail off feature is added to independent brake controllers for releasing the brakes on the locomotives while the rest of the train is braking.
I haven't worked locomotives in a while and technology has changed a lot in recent times. While the Dynamic Brakes are on, the loco brakes should be automatically released by the blending unit.

We are all railfans eager for any information on our vast and wonderful railway system. In spite of many drawbacks due to sheer traffic volume and climatic and geographic issues we love our railways.

The days we grew up, the concept of Railfanning didn't exist. My Dad got told repeatedly to get my head checked out.... I was running around in locomotives while other kids my age were playing sports. I never grew out of being a train buff!! We never do. Would be glad to answer any queries. @@novandas_ That is the Independent Brake Lever and not a Deadman handle. IR locomotives are two man crewed, they don't have Deadman levers. Just regular vigilance control.

One which he is always holding works as notch and on right side there are two brakes, A9 and SA9. One is loco brake and other train.
