Ive always imagined the world probably did have it but after the big calamity event i imagine some technologies were lost and probably not bothered with being recreated. At least, thats my personal theory on why that is, i also found that interesting.
I'm not sure about the Warner Brothers live action version coming but I really hope the soundtrack is filled with bassy, drumy, synthy remixes of the original soundtrack

I dont think Akira needs a sh1tty whitewashed movie remake.
The only way I could see live action doing it remotely any justice is if HBO got their studios on it and it was at minimum an 8 part mini series with 1-2 hour episodes each. Asian cast only obviously. But they’d 1000% need to sample sfx & music from the anime. But as a standalone movie it would never work, especially any Hollywood studios

This is quite good. I saw the original Akira in the late 80's. I loved the big bike Kaneda rode so in time I bought a '96 Honda Goldwing with the big chrome front brake covers.
