  • Honestly, this only covers a small part of what it's like to live with OCD, and only touches on a few of my different triggers, but I wanted to help explain the reality of it, rather than give you an in-depth look at what it's like to be me.
Ultimately I'd love for mental health disorders to be treated the same way as physical disorders. You wouldn't tell a man in a wheelchair to just get up and walk, and yet people with depression are often told to just cheer up.
I've been told a few times by different people in my life that I should just 'ignore' my OCD, but what I try to get across in this video is that I can't just ignore it, because it's a part of me.
Thanks very much for taking the time to understand OCD better.

Assalamoe3alaikom sis Malika, how about me who is suffering from the pure O ? I am always fighting with the Info intrusive thoughts. As a Muslim, I feel very bad to have this illness. Do you have also problems with ugly thoughts ?

Islamically, we need to remember that Allah SWT knows best, and everything in this life is a test. Unfortunately, there is a lot of misinformation about mental health in the Islamic community, and a lot of Muslims have this false belief that if your faith is strong enough, you'll be fine. Allah SWT can help you, but you also need to make the effort and seek help. If you are having invasive thoughts that cause you discomfort, then you should speak to a medical professional about it, and inchaallah they'll be able to give you therapy/ medication to counter it. Pray to Allah SWT to give you the strength and patience to keep going :)
