Yes, you should have 1 2.5 inch harddrive spot, probably where your 1 TB is located. The 2 x M.2 slots, with one that has your main Windows OS and then extra slot for another M.2 drive. You may have to jump in bios to allow for dual boot, mainly disable secure boot. Good luck
Will either of the NVMe products you have listed work as extra storage? I can’t seem to get the one I purchased to read, or when it does it only reads from 0 slot not 1. I bought Crucial 1TB MX500 M.2 Internal SSD
I want to buy the Helios 300 but tbh I’m a little confused on the ways I can transfer the data, any insight? Btw if you had an M.2. SSD from the other computer, could you put it into the extra slot for the Helios 300 to keep the data on it?
Yes but you would want to take out the NVMe drive that comes with the laptop, complete the first boot then reinstall. However that may cause primary boot issues, it might try to boot from the stock ssd instead of yours. You really only want one drive with an OS on it. To transfer data, look at Macrium Reflect, clonezilla, or Easeus. I like Macrium because it is free, I might consider making a video covering how to image a drive.
Thanks man, your video helped me install aditional space. But I have random BSOD crashes upon the new drive... It's really weird 'cause I can boot to windows normally, disks have no issues whatsoever, But only when I "use" something that is installedon the aditional drive is when this happens... could it be a windows misconfiguration?
Yea, it sounds like Windows is misconfigured for some reason. Next BSOD, look at the error that displays towards the bottom of screen and research that error and go from there. But see below on how you can easily reset PC back to factory. But a simple check and removal of the SSD or hard drive, and reseat it might also fix the issue. So Windows 10 makes it easy to reset PC, but always backup your stuff first. When ready, hold shift key then click Windows bottoms, then restart but continue to hold Shift key. It will say please wait, then a blue menu screen, will show. You can go to troubleshoot, and reset PC. Or just click Windows Key, then the settings or Cog wheel, then Windows Update, and then Recovery. You will be able to reset there.
Any So-Dimm DDR4, 260 PIN, memory of your choice. Mine came with speed of 2666 mhz, so I recommend 3200 mhz up to 3600 Mhz. G.skill ripjaws, Corsair, or Crucial are good
I have 2019 1660TI 256 nvme pre installed on my acer Helios (what came pre installed) I’m not gonna touch the pre installed NVME drive and wanna add a NVMe drive in the empty slot. I can do that right? Or does it just have to be a M.2 Sata drive ??
@@MotoFlows ? Well the model mine came with was only 256 GB, so I got a 1 TB. When I installed the drive and tried to boot I had issues which I mentioned. So when you get your you can boot like normal and setup your PC then shutdown. Then install your second NVMe drive and see if it works for you. If not, first go back into your OS, then to Acer support page to get the latest bios, once updated see if yours works. Otherwise yes, I recommend swapping m.2 slots. By default they install the stock NVMe drive is the second slot, slot 1. Slot 0 is the primary
Instead of swapping hard drive and booting, shutting down adding new one, restarting.... why not just put them where you want them to begin with , boot to BIOS go to boot priority setting and set the windows drive to boot 1. I was just here to see what are the options for adding additional storage since I'm expecting this laptop in mail soon. Thanks for the video
I did that, but I had issues which is why I made the video. However, I would be interested in how it will work for you, but it would not boot for me, just make sure you can get in bios at first start up to adjust priority.
I also had issue with the bluescreen when I upgraded my nvme drive. Just curious question but why is the bios ver 1.06 fixed the problem? what's the new update on the version?
Good question, not sure why is fixed issue but it did. Not sure if they have another bios update but if they do just keep everything backed up and updated to the latest version.
Wait so I am getting this model in a few weeks: Acer Predator Helios 300 PH315-53-72XD I want to get an SK hynix Gold P31 500GB PCIe NVMe Gen3 M.2 2280 Internal SSD And a SK hynix Gold S31 500GB 3D NAND 2.5 inch SATA III Internal SSD To fill both the second M.2 slot and the 2.5 Inch SSD slot, will this be okay? Will I run into any problems? Any specific way I need to install the 2.5 SSD? Will this be maxing out my storage? Hindering any performance? Help!
Well you will have no more storage slots available, but you shouldn't have any problems. If you do, just refer to my video, but they may have fixed it already in a bios update that your laptop might already have.
Question - I followed the video exactly, installed the updated BIOS and swapped the drives. Unfortunately now the laptop will not start. Any ideas? I've checked all the connections and even swapped back the drive to the original position. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Depends on your country, here in the U.S. we have "Right to Repair" No, if you install the 2.5 inch hard drive / SSD. Yes, if you send it back or RMA for repair, and you moved the stock M.2 NvMe drive. Just switch it back before you send it in for repair, and don't strip the screws.
Yes, you can install whatever you want, if you going to use it as your main OS drive I would recommend imaging the drive. If your just using it for extra storage, I would recommend going through the first boot (setup process, if new) then installing the 970 evo.
@@SerpentXTech the default drive that comes with the laptop is pretty good only 2 second boot time so i think just using the one i want to install as extra storage rather then OS is fine. Thank you

Well my memory slots are full, but you can always upgrade memory. From two 4 GB sticks to two 8 GB, or two 16 GB. And yes, you should have one NVME or SSD slot, and one 2.5 inch SSD or harddrive space. Depending on how your model came from the vendor.
Clone original 512GB m.2 NVMe to a 1TB Samsung 970 EVO (or 970 EVO Plus). Could use EaseUS Todo Backup, EaseUS Partition, Paragon Disk Manager, AOMEI Partition Assistant or as the person named James Murphy had posted on this UA-cam video he used Samsung Migration to clone Windows 10 which was on the OEM installed 512GB to his new 970 EVO Plus. Once finish cloning, remove 512GB m.2 NVMe SSD from slot 1 and move the 1TB 970 EVO Plus to Slot One. Insert your 2nd 970 EVO Plus into Slot 0. The OEM 512GB m.2 NVMe you had removed, place in a safe place in case you have problems with Windows down the road. Use one of the software programs mentioned above or download free Mini Tool Partition or could use Disk Management to format the 970 Plus EVO in slot 0. Afterwards you can configure your SSD's for Raid 0. For more data storage a 1TB Samsung 860 EVO SSD does well. Get a 4TB Western Digital Easy Store for external storage. 2 x 8GB DDR4 2666MHz memory dual channel is good but for heavy or intense Graphics programs or for Video Editing best to have 2 x 16GB DDR4 2666MHz for 32GB memory. By now your Predator Helios 300 is in prime condition to do some serious fast work. Yes! to upgrade requires 2 - 1TB Samsung 970 EVO m.2 NVMe PCIe's, a 1TB Samsung 860 EVO and optional external 4TB WD Easystore HDD. Then Samsung 32GB DDR4 2666MHz RAM Memory Module for Laptop Computers (260 Pin SODIMM, 1.2V) M471A4G43MB1 for $120.99. or G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 260-Pin DDR4 SO-DIMM DDR4 2666 (PC4 21300) Laptop Memory Model F4-2666C19D-32GRS for $114.99. Providing you have $600 to do all the upgrades.
Open Command window, or go to start menu /windows icon in lower left. Then type Diskpart, right click run as admin. Then when loaded type "list disk" to see if your drive shows
Thank you very much. I ended up switching the drives. First boot got predator logo for a while restarted and it booted up and I can see the drive under list disk. I have an older rog laptop with a 256 SSD with operating system and a 2.5 hdd. Could I switch one of those to the Helios? What would be the easiest way to switch the os so I could take the SSD and still use the rog? Thanks again!

The Bios has nothing to do with it, guys this is the 3rd time I change the Nvme drive on the 0 slot and my only solution is swap the drives multiple times until it will start now I have to admit that I thought the bios was the problem but it is isn't.
I did but it would not boot at all, just sit on black screen. But keep in mind I installed the drive prior to initial setup. However that is why I recommended to others, to go through the initial setup process, get to the desktop first, then shut down and install additional drives.
Just add it, and if you have to send back remove the extra drive. You can just leave the stock OS on the preinstalled m.2 drive, and add the extra m.2 drive.
Can’t get the back cover off at all, all screws out, it’s tight af don’t want to snap any plastic
Can u help me with what ram should i put in the same laptop like ram company
Any So-Dimm DDR4, 260 PIN, memory of your choice. Mine came with speed of 2666 mhz, so I recommend 3200 mhz up to 3600 Mhz. G.skill ripjaws, Corsair, or Crucial are good
Where did you get the kit that you use to connect the SSD to the laptop?
It came in the box with the laptop. Little blue rubber 2.5 inch SSD holder with sata connector
Hey I have a question.... just got the acer Helios 300 for Christmas and want to upgrade but need advice first.
About what?
I have 2019 1660TI 256 nvme pre installed on my acer Helios (what came pre installed)
I’m not gonna touch the pre installed NVME drive and wanna add a NVMe drive in the empty slot. I can do that right? Or does it just have to be a M.2 Sata drive ??
I never see anyone have to swap the NVME drives, I’m confused
@@MotoFlows ? Well the model mine came with was only 256 GB, so I got a 1 TB. When I installed the drive and tried to boot I had issues which I mentioned. So when you get your you can boot like normal and setup your PC then shutdown. Then install your second NVMe drive and see if it works for you. If not, first go back into your OS, then to Acer support page to get the latest bios, once updated see if yours works. Otherwise yes, I recommend swapping m.2 slots. By default they install the stock NVMe drive is the second slot, slot 1. Slot 0 is the primary
Can you upgrade it to 2tb hhd? Or it can only handle 1tb hhd?
You can upgrade to 2 TB
Does this have 16 gb ram or 8 gb ram? Some sources say 8 gb while others say 16 gb, so I’m not sure. Also what ram is compatible with laptop?
My model came with 16Gb, Acer has a lot of variations of this model. Check the link in description, but for the type, it has DDR4 SO-DIMM 260 PIN
SerpentXSF oh ok thanks. I’ll make sure to check it.
Wait so I am getting this model in a few weeks: Acer Predator Helios 300 PH315-53-72XD
I want to get an SK hynix Gold P31 500GB PCIe NVMe Gen3 M.2 2280 Internal SSD
And a
SK hynix Gold S31 500GB 3D NAND 2.5 inch SATA III Internal SSD
To fill both the second M.2 slot and the 2.5 Inch SSD slot, will this be okay? Will I run into any problems? Any specific way I need to install the 2.5 SSD? Will this be maxing out my storage? Hindering any performance? Help!
Well you will have no more storage slots available, but you shouldn't have any problems. If you do, just refer to my video, but they may have fixed it already in a bios update that your laptop might already have.
Is it the same with the Triton 300?
Similar, yes.
Whats the thickest 2.5mm that can fit?
Question - I followed the video exactly, installed the updated BIOS and swapped the drives. Unfortunately now the laptop will not start. Any ideas? I've checked all the connections and even swapped back the drive to the original position. Any help would be greatly appreciated...
did you get it working ?
Wish you showed the full install like I get you have your other pc but I wanna see the second boot where you fixed it
I bought stuff to upgrade but haven’t don’t it yet ... I’m going to follow your advice tho 🙏 thanks
Quick Question: When I switch my system drive from hdd slot 1 to 0, will it boot right up, or do I need to reinstall windows?
When you switch drive position it will still boot right up. IF you ONLY have Windows on that one drive
@@SerpentXTech Well I have Windows and some other programs that I've installed on the drive, like some coding programs, some miscellaneous stuff for work, various files, etc.
@@Buckdodgers that's fine it will work, you just dont want two drives with each having windows installed
My bad, I misunderstood you. I thought you meant the drive could ONLY have windows on it, and no other programs, lol.
Thanks for your help 👍🏿👍🏿
So supposedly there are 3 spot for storage 2 nvme m.2 and 1 hdd and assuming all those for storage purposes. Can I just pop in two nvm m.2 and get it running ?
Yes you can
Yes, between my 3 drives I’m running 4.5TB, planing to someday upgrade the 512GB to another 2tb ssd so I’ll then have 6tb all together
did you get the 2.5" hdd caddy in the box?
Yes, it came in the box, in a little accessory bag. Its baby blue color with normal sata connections and motherboard connector
@@SerpentXTech do you need this or is there a kit you can buy off the internet? I'm buying a second hand predator which doesn't come with the box so I doubt it will include this kit
@@jordanchan6400 not really you still have 2 Nvme slots you can use, but if you got the cash, look up Acer accessories to see if they have the 2.5 inch hard driver connection
Can i use intel optane in that slot?
Saved my life man 😭
will this void warranty
Depends on your country, here in the U.S. we have "Right to Repair"
No, if you install the 2.5 inch hard drive / SSD. Yes, if you send it back or RMA for repair, and you moved the stock M.2 NvMe drive. Just switch it back before you send it in for repair, and don't strip the screws.
I will be perfectly fine with installing 970 Samsung evo m.2 SSD, right?
Yes, you can install whatever you want, if you going to use it as your main OS drive I would recommend imaging the drive. If your just using it for extra storage, I would recommend going through the first boot (setup process, if new) then installing the 970 evo.
@@SerpentXTech the default drive that comes with the laptop is pretty good only 2 second boot time so i think just using the one i want to install as extra storage rather then OS is fine. Thank you
@@ernestnovakhov Yea it is a Kingston NVMe drive plenty fast enough. Your welcome and take care!
@@SerpentXTech you too! I didn't know what drive it was that's good information appreciate it
Does it support 1 tb ssd or 500 GB ssd?
Yes it does.
@@SerpentXTech what? How much support
i have the helios 300 17.3 but it comes with only 1TB HDD , i want to buy an nvme ssd card for it , but i dont know the limits for reading and writing that the laptop could take
please help me
Really anything BUT NvMe PCIe 4.0. Like Samsung 970, Or equivalent.
so theres an empty slot to put more ram and ssd in my helios 300?
Providing you have $600 to do all the upgrades.
can both slots be NVMe ssd?
Yes it will support NVMe for both m.2 slots
Can you upgrade the processor in this laptop
No its integrated
I am looking for a motherboard for the above laptop in India.
When I check the disk management, the new m.2 isn't there. Any idea what to do? Thanks
Check Diskpart to see if it shows there. If bot you may have to swap locations if you haven't already. Then try again
@@stshy check out Macrium reflect, imaging software. I just did a video on it, but it can apply to you as well. It is not the most recent video but 2nd most recent, "how to minimize downtime....." good luck
Anyone else just order this laptop and looked this up just to see what’s in it?
Aye thanks mate.
The Bios has nothing to do with it, guys this is the 3rd time I change the Nvme drive on the 0 slot and my only solution is swap the drives multiple times until it will start now I have to admit that I thought the bios was the problem but it is isn't.
Why didn't you just set your boot priority to disc 1?
I did but it would not boot at all, just sit on black screen. But keep in mind I installed the drive prior to initial setup. However that is why I recommended to others, to go through the initial setup process, get to the desktop first, then shut down and install additional drives.
my GPU isn't detected ..any solution for that?
gon buy this on amazon, but it says that it will void ur warranty if u added storage on your own :((
Just add it, and if you have to send back remove the extra drive. You can just leave the stock OS on the preinstalled m.2 drive, and add the extra m.2 drive. They have no way to tell, unless your strip the screws, lol. There not Apple, with extra glue or indicators. Feel free to use my affiliate link. One features in this video is $130 cheaper then when I bought it. amzn.to/37IQ8CF
