To prevent accidental unlocking on the fingerprint reader, go to settings, security, and select "press to unlock fingerprint" setting. That way the fingerprint reader only activates when you click the power button. I've been using the setting on my Xperia 5 V for a while and it works perfectly.
Old...wired headphones? I'm sorry but those of us that prefer quality over convenience can't stand Bluetooth. The math just isn't there for it to be able to compete with wired yet. Then you have to charge it and then sometimes, for no reason, it drops the signal and ruins your music listening experience. There are still new wired headphones being produced and they are better than Bluetooth. You can get excellent options at $20 (kz or moondrop all the way up to 50k from Sennheiser). If I ever switch back to Android I'll be buying a Sony phone again. I used to be a Sony user and I absolutely loved their phones. The Xperia S, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z5, even the Xperia M used to be my phone but I got "bored" after 7 years of android and I have been using iPhones ever since. (6s, 8 plus, 11 pro, 13 pro max, 15 pro max). The thing is that I have become so used to iPhones and I can't imagine using the Android UI nowadays. I always hated stock Android and I absolutely loved my Xperia phones for their UI. If Sony steps up and creates a similar UI as their 2013-2017ish phones, I would grab one asap. Besides that, the new Xperia phones still have all the features that I adored on my old phones, except they now have a monstrous battery and an extremely good camera imo.
Nice review but hardly a mention of one of the key features - audio quality! The Sony has replaced my iPhone Pro Max and Samsung Ultra. The iPhone 15 pro is a beast of a phone but heavy. The Ultra is less comfortable to hold and i was very disappointed ny Samsung's audio quality. The Sony has a 3.5mm headphone socket; nuxh nwtywr audio quality on wireless (aptX adaptive, LDAC, as well as Bluetooth 5.4 and BT LE and Snap Dragon sound). It also supports the new WiFi 7 standard. The Sony is lighter than the iPhone 15pro max and Ultra and more comfortable to hold. The Sony has an SD card. I have SD cards ajs with over 200gb of lossless uncompressed audio files the SD card is great (my wired IEMs sound better than my wireless earbuds). The ability to remove the SD card without a SIM ejector is very handy for quickly transferring large media files. I also prefer the Sony's camera over Samsung which at times doesn't look natural. And thw experience feels more fun amd enjoyable. I have a phone case with slightly raised aodes so I didn't get any fake touches (also prevents accidental fps touches- the Sony FPS on the side is great - way ahead of the Ultra. Though ibfons the iPhone FaceID faster amd more versatile). Sony only provides 4 years of security updates and 3 years of OS updates. I'd prefer longer - 5 years preferably. And battery life is insane- double the battery life of the Pixel 8a!
Been a Sony fan for ages. I've tried others, but they're not remotely as good. Sonys biggest issue is the battery time, imo. Got baffled when I got a Xiaomi and the battery lasted almost 1 week with normal use. Now, Sony Xperia 1 VI "impresses" with 2 day battery...when this rly should be the LEAST any battery should last. I like that they changed the aspect ratio and got rid of the 4K screen though. 3.5mm jack, SD slot and waterproof is a huge win as always. I get mine tomorrow.
I moved from pixel 8 pro to the Sony and haven't looked back. I prefer the more natural photos, the battery is a beast, I was just about getting a day with the pixel but with the Sony, 2 days no problem. I only wish it was cheaper and had 50 megapixels on the camera

I would have given my money to Sony if the pricing was better and if they had longer support. Just purchased a S24 ultra for about $800 (after exchange bonus and some promos), and got samsung buds pro2 worth about $250 free with it. The Sony with XM5s free was about $1400. Was a no brainer and feels like a steal. I now have a device which has 7 years of updates and support, which is nuts. I love Sony, but they really need to get their stuff sorted about updates and pricing.
I bought the Ultra but was deeply disappointed by the audio quality on wireless and of course wired. Also Sony has better external speakers. However, the Ultra is an excellent phone. But I didn't use the stylus much (put a stylus in the galaxy fold with the camera from the ultra and improve audio quality and id be tempted:). I also had an iPhone 15 pro max which I loved - the action button is incredibly versatile and it's a great all round phone but like the Ultra less comfortable to hold than the Sony.
Grippy surface is appreciated! I don't like to use a case, which adds thickness. Long battery life makes it possible to set the screen auto-power-off to 5 minutes, which is more comfortable for reading. I do that on my Sony 10 IV, and I still have around 50% left at the end of the day. I'm in Asia, so prices are not as crazy here. Very tempted to upgrade.

In fairness, you have to say, Sony isn't cheap on any of its products. So, the price fits into the line. I have one now for a few weeks, and it feels it is my phone for the next couple of years. Anyway, I'm not a heavy user too, therefore, the battery life is the burner, followed by everything else. Professional Photographer are happy with the camera, so why I should complain as an amateur? Xperia camera system and quality is truly great....in vacuum. In real life it can't compete with cheaper Vivo X100 Ultra, Oppo Find X7 Ultra or even iPhone 15 Pro. Sad but true. My personal experience.
I've seen many reviews of this phone and overall, i don't like those cameras and the UI. As opposed to a Galaxy or an iPhone, some features are lacking. It's an overpriced phone. Sony do great Tv, Playstation, Headphones but still is not able to do a great smartphone to everyone.
I am too waiting for Sony to hit my country's shore. It's weird since it's the only country which is launched literally 2 months after announced. Unlike others 😐
That price is killing it. Currently have 1 VI and before that I tried every flagship phone available (Honor, Oneplus, Vivo, Xiaomi, Samsung) and only thing which is on top with Sony it's price. Yes, if someone insists on SD card and audio jack then don't have other options if want flagship device. Besides that there isn't any other features whis is better than on others phone, yes battery life is great, but it's great also on Oneplus 12 which is significantly cheaper and had better cameras (for me personally even better than S24U). Then there is Vivo x100 Pro with outstanding cameras and their FuntouchOS is basically like pure Android, sure better than one in Xperia. I literally can't find any other feature which Xperia have except battery life to find reason to keep this phone...
I've seen Sony crank out better pics than the phones you mentioned and even my Pixel 7a but I don't know anything about photography and only went with the Sony Xperia V because of the SD slot and headphone jack. The 4K screen was just the icing on the cake. The battery life and health is better than OnePlus' offerings but that is to be expected given the price difference. Funtouch OS is nothing like stock. I've seen that heavily skinned interface. You might like or prefer it but it is far from stock.
I want to see a shootout between Samsung S24 Ultra, Sony 1VI and Vivo X100 Ultra in auto mode all lenses and video zoom and nightlife. I am pretty sure Sony will struggle more in different situations when not using the main camera.
With an Samsung S22 Ultra I don't see Sony good enough to be worth spending money at, same as I see Samsung S24 Ultra haven't advanced enough from the S22 Ultra to be worth putting so much cash at. So I will wait 1 more year. Sony should have better sensors in their phones, than they sell to Vivo and Xiami.
@@PeterEk31 Sony does have excellent sensors. You just like, "that processed to hell", look. Funny, I thought the Samsung offerings weren't worth squat for not having a headphone jack and SD slot with their paltry storage offerings.
This phone needs still big portion of updates. Video is worse than recorded with mark V, lacking sharpness. OS has weird lag while changing refresh rate. Fingerprint scanner is poor. Was testing it for a week and decided to not keep it at the moment. What was amazing is battery life and super tele macro mode
@@orangeyellow-me1pz in addition, here are my thoughts after testing S24U and Xperia. Needs to decide which to keep :) : Xperia Audio: more bass, less spacious, Battery: drop during the night only 1% Indoor photos (gray conditions): less noise, more sharp outcome. White balance rather cool, whole shoot is sharp. Indoor photos (dark conditions): much less noise, much sharer outcome, better highlights management S24U Audio: much more specious sound, with slightly less bass. Battery: drop during the night by 3% Indoor photos (gray conditions): more noise, sharpness present in the center of the shot, little green tint, more warm white balance Indoor photos (dark conditions): much more noise, photo is sharp in the center, worse highlights management
I think what people don't consider or these tech reviewers don't point out is reselling value.. when moving to new phone S24U will offer more value in trade in or easier to sell than Xperia phones... I don't think most people think of that just a little forward planning...
The most appealing thing about this phone, supposedly is the camera zoom. However, I've tried it in their shop and the image quality just isn't appealing at all. Xperia camera system and quality is truly great....in vacuum. In real life it can't compete with cheaper Vivo X100 Ultra, Oppo Find X7 Ultra or even iPhone 15 Pro. Sad but true. My personal experience.
Too bad those other phones look like shit.
The best phone that everybody will buy if they have the brains and pocket hehe
I wont do anything other than Asus or Sony going forth, will keep buying a flagship w/ a headphone jack for as long as I live
Now that's what I want to hear. Thanks for the in-depth analysis of the current state of the software of the new phone.
@@orangeyellow-me1pz in addition, here are my thoughts after testing S24U and Xperia. Needs to decide which to keep :) :
Xperia
Audio: more bass, less spacious,
Battery: drop during the night only 1%
Indoor photos (gray conditions): less noise, more sharp outcome. White balance rather cool, whole shoot is sharp.
Indoor photos (dark conditions): much less noise, much sharer outcome, better highlights management
S24U
Audio: much more specious sound, with slightly less bass.
Battery: drop during the night by 3%
Indoor photos (gray conditions): more noise, sharpness present in the center of the shot, little green tint, more warm white balance
Indoor photos (dark conditions): much more noise, photo is sharp in the center, worse highlights management
@@DamianNocun it sounds like the Sony is the better phone for you.
I'd rather just get an ai enhanced 5x zoom instead. I'd really wish Sony would release their RX100viii with the features of this phone, with or without the phone part, that would be awesome. Please Sony, update your RX100Viii
I like the battery life and the fact that it is dual-SiM.
I can't stomach that price though.
I prefer iOS but prefer Xperia 1 VI camera quality, is there something only can be done that Android can't as a everyday user, photographer and developer?
I use sony experia 1 V, I love the 4k resolution and the 21:9 aspect ratio my second phone S22 ultra.. i love sony more thn my samsung.. so sad sony downgrade resolution and change the aspect ratio
Waiting for sony 1 xix
Sony forever
Sony needs to reach out to huawei or google their phones are complete and awesome they have always suffered from camera software issues not always consistent from the sony xperia Z
I had no interest in an Android phone until I bought this Xperia.
You are right, nobydy is going to buy this device except for some fanboys because the price is just too steep ;)
Can I buy it from India

If you like decent audio quality the Sony is way ahead of the Ultra -by a long way.
Can you help me spam on Sony post to tell them remake a phone like Z Ultra? I love big phone.
Please Sony fans let's demand Z Ultra comeback.
If only sony made bigger screens and add stylus like in new samsung I love that sony have own identity but I really would like to have stylus in the future probably ill buy samsung cuz iPhone starts to get boring but if sony add stylus and some other features ill totally buy it
yes one of of kind... still no voice shutter for onehanded Photographers,..
If Sony goes main stream with a amator camera and no 3.5 jack and just HD... I won't buy Sony anymore. I think currently I am at my 6th Sony flagship phone and I think Sony should preserve what makes them special. Sony! Stop listening to clueless influencers like Marques Brownlee. They have more money than sense and they are not your target demographic. I buy Sony because I am a photographer not a social media whore.
I just ordered one online, because no retailers are selling a phone with a headphone jack and expandable storage.
I wish Sony software support is at least 3 years.
Always wanted to delve into buying one but im a bang for your buck type buyer and Sony misses the mark too many times in its phone history with high prices with so so to it sucks software.
I really wanna buy that, but worry about not working with stu pid f king usa carriers f k
sony is the best
Hold up...how are you playing Mario Kart?
Mario Kart Tour - it’s been on the Play Store for a while now. 😀
❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤ Sony
HONOR MAGIC 6 PRO NO Gud OIS Video Stablization Video Very Bad No Gud Please UPDATE
I'm in the US so I can't buy it without importing.
I have two such phones, the only serious problem is recording video in unnatural lighting, the phone reproduces colors incorrectly, there is no way to change it, and the video in such light is not sharp. I'm waiting for the opportunity to record in pro mode. Until then, this phone is not suitable for recording such materials
Two Xperia 1 VI you have? Are you sure?
@@MARINAC277 yes, I bought it for myself and my wife, but she can't convince herself to change the brand to Sony Experia and leave OnePlus
I had Sony Xperia 5 iii which was utter trash. Data randomly stops, overheating, weak signal, and green tint in low brightness. 1 VI looks like good phone but overpriced
Happy Xperia V iii user here. Except for the blurry telephoto lens on the edges... And the headphone plug that broke after 1 year... Well, maybe not so happy user after all...
The best phone ever
Give it another 2 ywars and it wouldnt exist
Sony xperia 1 vi is like windows 2000 in 2024
