It has been working well. My only complaint is that when in radio mode, if a txt comes in, it switches to CarPlay mode for the txt, but does not automatically switch back to radio mode. No big deal if you are not a radio fan. But I am old and prefer radio over stream. Haha
Thank you so much! I bought this same one a few years ago but never had time to install it. I set up the harness already so hopefully I can just pop it in and pray I can get the steering wheel controls working. Thank you again! What would we do without UA-cam!!! If it ever got shutdown the world would go into panic!!! Ha! Ha! No seriously!
Thanks for making the video, I appreciate the links for the head unit and harness. I'm happy with the results so far. Got to install the back up camera next.
Thanks a lot, your video gave me the confidence to do this upgrade on my Honda element and now I'm really happy and I saved $200 in installation fees! Now I got to buy the controller for the steering wheel controls. Go Team Honda!
There’s a problem with the 2011 Element…no rubber gasket around the license plate light, hard plastic. So had to drill small hole to either L or R of mount to the license plate light then threaded it through. Not much accessibility but had to trim back casing to get red power line connected and used the multi wire ground connection. Instead of crawling underneath, I went up the door then into and above the speedometer then right over to the PURPLE/WHITE wire with the RED WIRE and T-connector. Went down to the floor and pulled off the sub woofer cover to find the GREEN/ORANGE wire that the LIGHT GREEN parking brake wire connects to…did another T-connector. Turned the key and everything worked, started and shifted into reverse on my Pioneer DMH-W2770NEX
The fit on 37:10 looks different than ( radio bezel slightly overhanging over top plastic) when you were tightening the 4 bolts earlier. Can you advise how you mounted it in? I can't quite seem to duplicate that. Thanks
Did you have to do anything to set up the backup cam? Or did it automatically work when you put it in reverse? I have the same radio (face, wiring, instructions booklet) just a differently branded but can't get my cam to come on. Obviously I may have wired it wrong or the connection didn't take but just curious
Thanks for the quick reply. Where in the video did you use that? I swear I've watched it multiple times and didn't see anything with brake lights or brake light connection lol are you referring to that brown wire on the back of the harness? Or the actual brake light? Cause I saw you tap into the reverse light. This is my first time ever doing anything like this. Thank you for any help!
Haha ok yes I saw that. Tried to do that but didn't work. I'll try redoing the wires tomorrow. Too many hours trying today! Thanks for your help and video
That reverse light signal acts as a "remote" to tell you unit to switch screen display to the rear camera. Test that line to make sure it is ~12v when the car is in reverse. Otherwise, your head unit will not know to switch displays. Good luck. Good night.
I bet your car has an amp that needs to be powered on. If you watch my video, you will see that I also realized that I had an amp that I needed to power on.
sorry i’m a complete newbie how exactly do you tap into the reverse light? let me edit myself. how exactly do you tap that black wire into the ground thing?
buy something like this amzn.to/3x7tmpy. Crimp it on the reverse wire to tap into it. For ground, you can connect to bare metal on your car frame (chassis). Your whole car frame is ground.
Oops. I clicked remove, instead of reply on you previous post about connecting the ground. That is just a bolt that I unscrewed and connected the ground to. No taping.
@@GearGadgetExperimentshey sorry just another quick question how did you connect the wire to that screw? did you use like a crimp connector? or just screw it on tight enough so that the wire was compressed between the bolt and panel?
@@sydneybennett5362 remove bolt with socket wrench or crescent wrench. use ring terminal like this amzn.to/49h0Lvq, then srew bolt back in. Or you can just tap into any one of those wires connect to the chassis with the tap connector link I sent earlier.
Any updates

I just got an old Element and have never done a car project. This video gives me hope I can actually do it!
It is not hard to, you can do it!

Happy to help. I get tons of info from UA-cam myself. Good to know I am also contributing!
OMG thank you SOOOOOO much for this Video!! i bought one just like this and had no idea how i was going to install it. Now i know!!
Happy to help

Amazing video! Thanks for taking the time to make this.
Glad it was helpful!
I put this brand head unit in my element. No issues, works great
Glad to hear!
Nicely done, you really kept your cool through all that. You are a very patient and knowledgeable person.
Thanks!
Great video I feel like I can do it myself now all 👍🏾but the back up camera
I bet you can do the back up too! Just give yourself time
The person that goes in here next is going to have a hell of a laugh.

Do you know what the output voltage is?
Should be anywhere from 2v to 5v out
Sorry, I don't know
Thank you sir

I had to tinker with the mounting bolt location a few times to get what I wanted. I have the unit sitting through the bezel, not flush with it at all
Same!!!

If you watch the video, you will see that I needed to use the reverse (corrected) light connection.

Do you know if this unit is XM/Sirius ready or do I have to get another adapter module to connect to the radio?
sorry. I don't use XM so I don't know.
You can purchase a Sirius xm bluetooth Starmate. It has a Sirius ID, which you can connect to by a Bluetooth receiver in your car.
Do you know why my speakers won’t work whenever I have the wires all connected all the right way ? And my speakers do work

I stopped watching when he used the electrical tape…
Why?
Thanks for keeping us updated on your viewing habits 🤷
The wire nuts didn't do it for you?
