Never stop a movie (especially an 80s movie) before the last credit rolls! There are so many hidden gems in the credits!
It's tragic yo 🤦🏾♂️. I hate when reactors fail like that.
Yeah, that post-credit joke was the best thing in the movie :D
@@mat13channel "Alright! Where's the spoon?!"

Hey Jay and Amber, Fun Fact for you:
James Earl Jones and Madge Sinclair, who played Eddie Murphy's parents in this movie, also voiced Simba's parents in "The Lion King"
And they were both in the short lived tv show 'Gabriel's Fire'
The Prince of Soul Glow is Eric LaSalle who played on ER from 94-02 and is currently a director on shows like Law & Order, Organized Crime, and Chicago PD, to name a few.
No mention of the great iconic voice of Darth Vader???
@@jaybird8192 "This is CNN"
The mother first appeared together with John Amos (Cleo McDowell) in the epic Roots.
John Amos tripping over those stairs was a real accident. He stayed in the moment and the director kept it in the movie. What a pro!
It fit so well.
I thought it looked like he tripped for real. 🤣
Plus the line about breaking his foot off in the king’s ass was completely improvised.
Someone should write a book on the # of accidents left in films that have become, like the stormtrooper hitting his head in Star wars, so memorable😎
No kidding: I'm a wedding minister and one of my brides started to walk down the aisle, and a guest stood up and sang "She's Your Queen To Be." It took every ounce of energy to maintain my professional demeanor. I laughed a LOT on the way home afterward, though.
That's amazing =D
😆. Tooooooo beeeeeeeeeee.
I woulda disturbed that wedding cracking up. Omg😂😂😂
A True Love Song!
❤
"Do not alert him to my presence, I shall deal with him myself" is a play off of a Darth Vader line - who James Earl Jones also did the voice for.
Never knew that.. 👍👍
And if it's not... it sounds disturbingly similar ;)
So happy you recognized the Dukes. One of the greatest cameos in comedy history.
They missed every single side character played by Eddie Murphy or Arsenio Hall with the exception of Arsenio in drag.
Agreed! It's one of my favorite scenes in the movie.
I watched Trading Places last week. A classic iconic movie.
& it goes along with the back story ..
@timothymccracken.. it is a fantastic movie for cameos. My favorite, although brief, is Samuel L. Jackson as the gunman at McDowell's. Hysterical.
Fun fact: for the movie's 30th anniversary a few years ago, an independently operated McDonald's in Chicago "dressed" as McDowell's for Halloween. The owner changed the sign, the menu and the employee uniforms. It was brilliant.
Also, James Earl Jones and Madge Sinclair would go on to voice Simba's parents in "The Lion King" (1994).
Playing a King and Queen once again.
I wonder if it was just a coincidence or if Disney saw/heard of this movie and decided to cast them both for those roles
JEJ is iconic. Peace, Love!!
Wasn’t an independent McDonald’s it was The Wiener Circle. Triumph the Insult Dog did a bit there back in 2012
@@k3n12ock Seriously? This was no coincidence bud. Lol 😆
There was also a touring McDowell’s pop-up shop that traveled to different cities last year in honor of the film’s anniversary
I always laugh when Eddie as the Jewish guy calls Akeem "Kunta Kinte" because Kunta Kinte is in this movie! John Amos, who you recognised but couldn't name, played the fully grown Kunta Kinte in Roots. He's been in so many things I think just about everyone can recognize him, even if his name doesn't come straight to mind.
One of my favorite lines… so good!
I remember him as being the dad from Good Times.
Yeah, that Jewish guy was actually Eddie, as was the one barber and the singer in the band playing at that fundraiser
@jawbone78: I didn't know that John Amos played the adult Kunta Kinte in "Roots", I primarily remembered him as James Evans Sr. on "Good Times"
The barbershop scenes are great!
There was about a decade from 1980 to 1990 when Eddie Murphy ruled the entertainment world. Saved Saturday Night Live single handed. Epic best selling comedy albums and tours. A hit record. Iconic comedies and action comedies such as Trading Places, Coming to America, 48 Hours and Another 48 hours, Beverly Hills Cop 1 and 2. He was that rare combination of raw talent, intelligence and charm.
I must be that guy... you forgot "The Golden Child". Amazing and hilarious movie.
The dad who owned the "McDowell's" restaurant is actor John Amos who played the father ('James Evans') on the 70s sitcom, "Good Times". He's also starred in many, many movies over the years, including Die Hard 2 (which you guys should check out one day). And also talk about more connections, Samuel Jackson (who played the robber in this movie) also starred in "Die Hard 3: With a Vengeance". The actress who played Prince Hakeem's mother is the late, great Madge Sinclair (1938-1995). She was unfortunately not in the sequel to this movie ("Coming 2 America") because she passed away, obviously. They pretty much brought everyone back for the sequel (who was still alive that is).
BTW, this was the first movie that featured Eddie Murphy's talent to do multiple characters in a film, long before he did The Nutty Professor.
Die Hard 2 my friend.
But they also gave clue in the movie "Hey Kunta Kenta!"
John Amos, one of his first acting jobs was in a McDonald's commercial, "you deserve a break today."
“She’s your queen to be” and “just let your soul glo” is classic.
so free of "infections" XD
The Randolph and Mortimer cameo is one of my favorites in movie history
Mine too.
Same. And it was GOLD to be in the theater and hear the audience reaction when they came on screen.
The original shared cinematic universe?
I thought it was a Muppet Show reference.
Trading places is one of Eddie Murphy's best
Did you missed the end credits? It showed you the characters that Eddie and Arsenio played in the movie, plus one last joke. I loved this movie and I’m so glad you watched it. If you missed it, please go back to watch the end credits. I would love for you to watch Dream Girls with Beyoncé, Jennifer Hudson, and Eddie Murphy. It’s a musical, but it’s very good.
Taste the soup!
@@solidsnake58 YES! I remember cracking up at that!
@David Palmer LOL
I yelled "Oh no!" when they cut away from the credits! :)
@@Dromio so did I. And then amber said "I wish we could know who they each played" 😂
"His momma named him Clay... Im'a call him Clay😑" LMAO
Did you notice that 2 of the barbershop characters were Eddie Murphy, and one was Arsenio Hall? Both of those guys played like 4 roles in the movie. It was brilliant.
Also the kid in the barber's chair trying to hold in his laughter was Cuba Gooding Jr
Anybody recognize the third barber, Eddie’s friend Clint Smith? I remember him from SNL, especially “write to ‘Clint: I’m sorry I thought you were a homosexual’.”
Also, us old folks will recognize the cab driver as Jake Steinfeld, fitness guru of “Body by Jake”. Youngsters will know his niece, Hailee Steinfeld.
@@bigb2494 LOL I was just about to comment that I've seen this movie I don't know how many times, and watching this reaction is the first time I actually noticed that that's Cuba Gooding Jr.
@@philpennington826 yes, a lot of people don't catch it's him. Just as Garcelle Beauvais from the Jaimee Foxx show goes unnoticed as one of the rose bearers.
The old white guy is also Eddie Murphy...
The woman's dad that's McDowell's was the father on Good Times. The Trading Places cameo is so epic.
I've only gotten to the part where John Amos's character is introduced and Amber is trying to figure out why he looks familiar. Had to stop and read some comments. I have way too much fun watching young people watch old classics. Such... good times. Wish I could remember if they'd watched Trading Places yet... seems I think they have, now they need to add Beastmaster for some more John Amos.
@@ahwhite2022 They must have watched trading places because they recognized the Dukes.
@@emmitstewart1921 yup, hadn't gotten to that scene yet. Glad they caught it. The name "Mortimer" helped.
Also in Die Hard 2, but I don’t think they’ve seen that yet.
@@mrupright Nobody should be made or asked to see Die Hard 2. I suppose I could tolerate an MST3k/Rifftrax treatment of it, though.
Arsenio's reaction to the King showing up at their door is one of the best reactions in movie history.
The first time I saw that I don't think I ever laughed that hard!!!
Have you seen Arsenio’s part in Amazon Women on the moon? Hilarious😂
So true... I can't forget it...
@@jonwilley9548 Probably too many dated references to make that one worthy of a reaction video on this channel but if yous ever run into a slow movie night for yourselves, please consider it!
I saw this the weekend it came out. When Randolph and Mortimer said “we’re back in business” the entire theater roared with laughter.
Eddie played multiple parts in this movie including the lead singer for “Sexual Chocolate”. I highly recommend “The Nutty Professor”, another of Eddie’s movies where he plays at least six separate characters and is very funny. Eddie received an Academy Award nomination for his role in the movie “Dreamgirls” where he plays a singer. He is a very talented singer and this movie really showcases his vocal and acting skills. It’s a story based loosely upon the career of The Supremes.
Jimmy Got Soul....LOL!!!
They mentioned more than once in this reaction that they’ve seen The Nutty Professor.
Besides the barber... was also the Jewish guy in the barbershop as well.
@@BabyNoah22 Yes, someone else posted that before I made my comment so I didn’t bother repeating it.
I was hoping seeing their reaction about that fact when credits rolled. Like them referencing there should be a movie about that barbershop and not realising it was him all along. I was thinking that if he was tired of the make-up he could fit well in voic3 acting and then remembered Donkey.
Shout out to Louie Anderson (McDowell employee). A hilarious stand-up comedian who always gets overlooked in reactions. He played the flower delivery man in Ferris Beuller's Day Off too.
RIP
He has one of my most favorite scenes in this movie.
Louie 🙏🏾🥺
And Louie Anderson also hosted "Family Feud" after Richard Dawson retired.
Life With Louie was a GREAT animated show...my pops loved that show. RIP to a great one.
"It's a damn shame what they did to that dog". That line gets me every time. 😂
🤣🤣
Fun fact... that was Samuel L. Jackson's first movie roll!
I was so happy you caught the Duke Brothers! When you watched Trading Places, I told you you had to watch this movie!
John Amos, (Lisa's dad) has been in many things, but he also played Kunta Kinte in Roots, which is why it was hilarious that Eddie Murphy (as the old Jewish guy) called Eddie Murphy (as Akhim) Kunta Kinte!
It was not Sam’s first movie roll. Look it up on IMDB.
I also believe Samuel Jackson was 38 yrs old in this film.
I'm pretty sure it was not John Amos who played Kunta Kinte; I think it was LaVar Burton.
@@catwhisperer9489 Lavar Burton played a young Kunta Kinte,John Amos played the fully grown Kunta Kinte.
@@catwhisperer9489 he played the adult Kunta Kinte
14:25 in barbers seat ..."Show me the Money".. Cuba GJ.
This is my favorite reaction of yours! This movie was important to me as a kid 'cuz it showed a guy who really wanted a smart girl who was his equal. And the barbershop was the funniest stuff.
One of my favorite childhood comedies. I know it by heart and reference it to this day.
Cute little "Easter egg"
King Jaffe Joffer: "Do not alert him to my presence. I will deal with him myself"
Darth Vader: "No, leave them to me. I will deal with them myself"
Yeah, always felt like the same vibe. Very similar words. AND talking about his son in both cases. I'm sure it was no accident.
BRUH,,i never knew that and i seen this movie 400 time.
This movie is an absolute classic with soooo many lines that are still used to this day. The dance at the beginning that introduced fiancée was choreographed by Paula Abdul.
What lines?
@@orangewarm1 you obviously didn’t grow up with this movie lol.
His mamma call him Clay, imma call him Clay!
@@michaeldorsey1394 exactly! No matter how many years have passed, my family and friends still recite random lines in everyday conversation.
I quote this movie all the time. "It's damn shame what they did to that dog." "I'm washing lettuce. Then I'll move up to fries, and then the grill. In a few years I'll become assistant manager, and that's when the big bucks come rolling in." "When you think of garbage, think of Akeem."
A side note. This film won an Oscar. Best Choreography. - Paula Abdul. Someone who deserves more reactions on the music channel.
Paula was also dating Arsenio Hall during this time.
That’s not an Oscar category
@@stevenhartline6723 Yes it is. Like editing, cinematography, makeup, set design, costumes, etc. these at least were part of the Oscar awards that would be given out during the daytime, prior to the main show starting on TV. I don't know if they still are doing it today. But, from the 1950's-1990's I know they were done. Once CGI took hold...I am not sure if they still do them.
@@WolfsDE choreography was not a category in 1988 when the film came out. Sorry your “fact” isn’t accurate. Coming to America was nominated for best makeup and costumes but did not win either. A simple google search will go a long way.
If there was an award given out for choreography, it wasn't an Oscar. It was something else.
I love how this film shows value - Akim could easily be an asswipe like the hair dude, or give up any moment, but he keeps being kind and tactful - even to the robber.
In my opinion this is the greatest film ever made. It is so great that I'm legit terrified to watch part 2 and ruining the experience that this movie gives.
Madge Sinclair, who plays the Queen, was ALSO Mufasa's wife, Sarabi, on The Lion King. Again, whoever wrote The Lion King at Disney or whoever had a hand in casting the voices for the characters was a fan of this movie.
Shakespeare wrote The Lion King, technically. It’s an adaptation of Hamlet. The adaptation is so clever, though. Perfect setting.
Also Kunta Kinte's wife in Roots, Kunta Kinte being played by John Amos
@@mikeshoe74 Kunta was played by LeVar Burton. John Amos was Toby.
@@jennthabombdiggity ...but Toby was still Kunta Kinte
@@jennthabombdiggity LeVar Burton was young Kunta. John Amos was Older Kunta (also known as Toby)
As has been stated, James Earl Jones was Mufasa but the Queen, played by Madge Sinclair, also played Simba's mother.
Sarabi. Symba's mother is Sarabi.
I saw this in the theatre when it came out and the scene where the Duke bros appear, the crowd roared with laughter so loud, so funny 🤣
This is close to a perfect movie as I've ever seen. And the "Trading Places" callback is one of my favorite moments in any film.
31:15 There's a 70s R&B love song called "If Loving You Is Wrong, I Don't Want To Be Right"
Hey guys. Love this movie too! Another hilarious Eddie Murphy movie to check out is; "The Golden Child". You'll absolutely love it. 😂
Golden child is such an unknown classic! You so right! I actually went to college with the golden child and fun fact, it’s a female. Always thought it was a boy! Ha
@Ed Ward wow. I just assumed it was a boy in the movie too. I think it's one of Eddie's funniest movies
YES!!! I was also going to suggest "The Golden Child". Such an underrated gem! I watched it on repeat when I was a kid. Great Eddie Murphy flick!
"I've got the knife, now turn on the goddamn light!"
Wow, I saw that several times as a kid but I haven't thought of it in years. I need to watch that again!
One of my favorite things in this movie is that Eddie regularly uses a technique called 'breaking the fourth wall'... the three walls of the stage are the left, back, and right... and the fourth wall is facing the audience. Eddie breaks out of the movie and looks straight at the audience (like when the future queen is barking) as if to say to the audience, 'can you believe this?'
Eddie and Eriq (Daryl) broke the 4th wall perfectly in this movie lol
"Trading Places" twice, and it's hilarious.
Yes fourth wall breaks are hilarious, they kind of remind you not to take things to seriously, you will find this in some sitcoms and comedy movies as well. Will Smith was good at it on POB🤣
@@chrisharris9577 Most definitely
I liked the one in Trading Places about the ''Pork bellies which are used to make bacon...as one might find in a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich.'' Like he wouldn't know what bacon was, lol.
This movie is a work of comedic genius. I could watch it every day and never get bored of it.
The lines are so well written! Still holds up
Lisa’s dad was the father in Good Times with JJ as his oldest son called ‘Kid Dynomite’.
Fun fact Akeems parents James earl Jones and Madge Sinclair (R.I.P) were also simba's parents in the Lion King Shout out Jason weaver as the singing voice and Jonathen Taylor Thomas as the speaking voice
Another FUN FACT:
So the reason that opening song gave you "Lion King" vibes is because it is the same song you remember hearing in The Lion King, which came out about 10 years later. In this movie, you hear the original singers. I think the name of the group was Ladysmith Black Mambazo
Go back and watch the end credits, they show all the characters they each played. One of my all time favorite EM films! So glad you both watched this! 👍👍💙
Coming to America, Beverly Hills Cop 1&2, and The Golden Child 💜 His SNL stuff was ANAZING too 😊
@@BeboRulz 100% agree! : )
@@BeboRulz When he played Mr White is hilarious. It also had a Martin Lawrence cameo
I get so frustrated when reactors ignore the credits.
@@randall-king Yup! I always watch the end credits, you never know what you may miss, bloopers, outtakes, behind the scenes, and character reveals like in this film. Totally worth it!
For Black History Month I recommend “Glory” (Classic Denzel Washington, with Morgan Freeman, based on actual events) and “The Color Purple” (Steven Spielberg directed, Whoopi Goldberg and Oprah’s film debuts, based on a novel by Alice Walker). Both have disturbing facets but overall are great stories and excellent movies. Bring Kleenex and lots of it. So so good! 🔥🤙
Amistad would be another great choice.
Yes, agree on all of these. And Amistad. OMG, they will make you cry though. I still cry at the end of Color Purple. 😭 💜
@@RonPower Ahh, yes! “Set us free.” Another great (and true) story, also directed by Spielberg. 👍
@@goldilox369 I cry at least three times *before* the end, and then the flood gates really open up. So freakin’ good. Whoopi was absolutely amazing in that role.
The Color Purple was written by Alice Walker, not Toni Morrison. Toni Morrison was the author of Beloved, Oprah played a part in that book's film adaptation as well.
I just have to say that I love your channel because no matter the movie you are reacting to, the pair of you always manage to put a smile on my face. My best wishes for y'all.
One thing many people miss is that James Earl Jones (the King) was the voice of Mufasa and Madge Sinclair (the Queen) was the voice of Sarabi. So they both played king and queen in another hugely popular movie. So yeah, the Lion King vibes are strong with this one.
Love Eddie and Arsenio together playing multiple characters
After Arsenio got his late night show, people forgot he was a top tier comic and versatile performer pretty quickly. He might have been the best physical comic of his era. He came up through the clubs with Eddie and he knew his talent, brought him with him on the film.
"Hit me, with the digits!"
-Arsenio Hall
Arsenio’s show was the best late night show. Aresnio snd Eddie are best friends. I used to laugh so hard when Eddie or even Sly Stallone would tease Aresnio about doing drag in this movie
Things that make you go hmmmm....
You really should have watched the end credits... shows exactly how many roles Eddie and Arsenio played in this movie.
Akeem's mother and Lisa's father played husband and wife in Roots... John Amos (who played Lisa's father, Cleo Mcdowell, also James Sr. in Good Times) married (Jumped the Broom) Madge Sinclaire (The Queen) in "Roots"... Amos played Kunta Kinte ... An easter egg, if you will, when Akeem was referred to by that name...
I have watched this reaction an ungodly amount of times and wish I could like it each time. Love you guys!
"taste the soup!" lmao I say this all the time when something obvious is missing
the end credits are gold
The dance number at the arranged wedding wasn’t actually created by anyone from Africa nor based on any specific traditional tribal dance. It was choreographed by Paula Abdul. She did some research but time was limited, so she winged it a bit. Still a fantastic sequence to a timeless classic movie. I worked at an old cinema in Oklahoma at this time and I was the projection booth guy, so I had to sit and watch this movie every night for two weeks. There was a tear in the film and had to monitor it to keep it in frame. Suffice to say, I can’t still quote every line to this day.
True, the dance number was not a specific traditional dance, but she did incorporate traditional African dance moves.
The dance scene was also the inspiration for Busta Rhymes Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See video.
The opening song is by Ladysmith Black Mambazo. They're beyond amazing. A group of male vocalists who sing, chant, stomp their feet, and dance. Check them out. They became famous in the US when they backed Paul Simon on Diamonds on the Sole of Her Shoes.
Loved their work in Paul Simon's video.
"I could watch a full movie of that Barbershop" - Jay unknowingly describes the pitch meeting for the Barbershop movie!!!🤣😂😭🤙🏻🤷🏼♂️
Man, I LOVE y'all's reactions!!!❤️❤️
22:03 - that's John Amos, known as the older version of Kunta Kinte/Toby in "The Roots" and more known as James Evans from the 70s sitcom "Good Times"
29:16 - this was Samuel Jackson's film debut
Here in Portugal , this movie was called " um príncipe em Nova York" , a prince in New York.
It was a huge sucess on cinema and in TV.
I laugh a lot with this movie 😁
Another fun rags to riches movie is Arthur with Dudley Moore, Liza Minelli and Sir John Gielgud. Music by Christopher Cross. It's a classic, too.
Everything is so perfect in this movie. It never hits a wrong note.
This is my favorite comedy of all time
When Akeem is at the turnstile in the subway, behind him on the wall is a poster for the Broadway play Fences. James Earl Jones starred in the premiere run of Fences which closed it's first year of performances on June 26, 1988...the same day that Coming To America was released in theaters.
I was waiting to see how long it would take you to recognize that all the old men in the barbershop were Eddie and Arsenio.
Thank You. Love the channel. Keep up the great work!
The man who played Lisa’s dad that you couldn’t place is John Amos. He played the dad in the show Good Times and older Kunta Kinte in Roots, along with many other roles.
John Amos was fired from Good Times because he kept pushing for the smart daughters going to college to become the focus, and the producers wanted to keep making jokes about the son and his dumb jokes. That show could have been so much more if they kept Amos and listened to him.
John Amos was also in The Beastmaster (1982) and Die Hard 2 (1990) as well 😁
One of the best Eddie Murphy movies. All the characters he and Hall play are amazing in this
You stopped watching the credits when you were about to find out all the roles they played!! I always love your reactions guys! You never disappoint! Fingers crossed for Million Dollar Baby soon!
You guys didn't watch the whole ending credits, they showed every character that both Eddie and Arsenio played in the movie. BTW, the old Jewish guy in the barber shop was Eddie Murphy too. I remember when this movie first came out, every character that Eddie played was obvious him in makeup, but nobody realized that the old Jewish man was him too. He fooled everyone with that one. The makeups was done so well, and his acting was spot on good.
Fun fact, Akeem's mother played the voice of Sarabi, Simba's mom in the Lion King in 94. James Earl and she played parents again
A PERFECT movie for Black History Month would be Hidden Figures. Read the Wikipedia on it. Incredible and history based.
Great book too.
Love almost every film Eddie has done. Another good one is "The Golden Child," an underrated EM from. Each film has quotable classic lines that are still being used, lol. Let's go!
YES‼️💖 I LOVE The Golden Child‼️😁
"IIIIIII want the kniiiiife. Pleeeeeease.."
“Give me the knife…. Please…..?!?!?”
I'm going paddle your ass when I see You! Lol
Yes, the Golden Child is my favorite Eddie Murphy film!
The not knowing how to mop part hits different because in college I worked in the dorm kitchen and a student from Saudi Arabia got hired and was asked to mop the kitchen but he grew up with it being "women's work" and had never mopped in his life, so the man *dumped the entire bucket of water and soap onto the floor* and started sloshing it around. The cook ran over like what happened??? And he was like ...is that not how you do it? Took the poor guy HOURS to get it all soaked back up. xD
This movie is genius. One of the few comedies that is so well written, there isn't a dull part in the entire movie. Rodney Dangerfield in "Back to School" is much the same way. Would be a great watch for the channel!
Props for finding the trading places tie in
Yay!!! Love this movie!! 🤗❤ Fun fact: Paula Abdul choreographed the group dance number in the beginning, when Akeem was to meet his chosen queen ☺️
I’ve seen this movie like 50 times and it never gets old! One of my favorite childhood movies. And yes, that’s the Duke Bros
"sexual chocolate everybody" one of my favorite lines of the movie.
Die Hard 2 also has Lisa’s dad in it as the commanding officer who turned out to be with the bad guys.
Fun fact, the actors who play Akeem's parents here also played the voices of Simba's parents in the OG Lion king.
One of the most quotable movies in existence. Never gets old.
FABULOUS movie - can't even count how many times Ive seen it - but you guys need to watch the credits to see just how many roles that Eddie and Arsenio played -
I love this movie, so many great cameos in this movie, too! All of the characters in the barber shop were played by Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, Clint Smith, and Cuba Gooding Jr. Also, the old Jewish man in the barber shop, that was Eddie Murphy, too. Thanks for a great reaction! ✌💙✌
It's wild to come back and see all the small parts that some actors played with big time screen credits now. Vondie Curtis Hall, Ruben Hudson, Victoria Dillard, Frankie Faison, Vanessa Bell, Garcelle Beauvais, Cuba Gooden Jr. And of course Samuel L. Jackson.
All of them went on to do some good work in Hollywood. And still do!
Even the counter guy at McDowell's (Louie Anderson) and the dumb Fu!! Cabbie (Jake Steinfeld) were stand-ups and had their own tv shows for a hot minute.
Randolph and Mortimer were big movie stars back in the 40's. Google Coming To America cast and they have young pictures of them.
@wendywoodruff2871 I saw Jake at a high school basketball game down here in Virginia Beach. No idea why he was here but it was definitely him. I watched enough Big Brother Jake to know.
And Louie Anderson was friends with Eddie Murphy. I thought he was pretty known even then.
Can't believe it's been 7 years since I last saw this movie with my friends back during my last few weeks of Uni. It felt surreal to see Eddy Murphy playing a somewhat serious character when I grew up watching his more comedic movies like the Shrek movies, Mulan and The Nutty Professor
Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall each played 4 characters in this movie. Yes, Eddie was also the old Jewish white guy in the barbershop. Eddie played 7 characters in NUTTY PROFESSOR and played 8 characters in NUTTY PROFESSOR 2.
I love this movie so much. My dad moved to America a few years before my mother, siblings and I arrived. This was the first movie he had us watch together as family in our new home. I was 6 😂
Oh my gootness, you guys.
I can't imagine a life without having ever seen this movie.. but, alas, I am old ☺️
James Earl Jones was also the voice of Mufasa. Speaking of the Lion King 😃🦁
When King Jaffe Joffer is in McDowell’s and says “Do not alert him to my presence. I’ll deal with him myself,” it’s a nod to Star Wars when Darth Vader says (in Return of the Jedi) “No. Leave them to me. I will deal with them myself.”
The scene where Akeem and Semmi first go to the nightclub to meet women, the song playing in the background,, "I GOT IT",, was also performed by Eddie Murphy. Its from his 1988 music album called "SO HAPPY".
This movie is a classic! I've seen it so many times.
Great Movie! If you didn't notice.. the young guy in the barber chair was Cuba Gooding Jr. And the old Jewish man in the shop was actually Eddie Murphy. One of my favorite movies. You guys always pick a perfect movie. Have a Blessed Day.
Im happy to watch this reaction with you. When I was young, I watched this almost every day. I loved the story, the comedy, and the extensive characters! I'm glad you had so much fun.
Great selection! I'm very proud that you guys noticed the "Trading Places" reference. Also, Eddie Murphy played most of the goofy barbershop characters, as well as the "Sexual Chocolate" singer. Excellent choice! - Mike the ginger
Eddie had a spate of wonderful movies back in the day, but I think this is my absolute favorite. He's so funny and Arsenio Hall is even funnier! I never get tired of seeing this movie. I'm glad y'all had a chance to watch it, too.
"48 Hours" is another Eddie Murphy movie that you two will want to react to at some point.
This is absolutely my favorite movie all-time. I've seen it hundreds of times and know every line from beginning to end. Usually watch it every Christmas now. Still not tired of watching it though. True classic.😀😀
I'm so glad y'all liked this movie. It's truly a classic and groundbreaking. I was excited when I went to NY and saw the Waldorf Astoria hotel. I had to take a picture of it for my brother since it's his favorite movie.
@@Nashalbeth From the outside it looked very nice.
Eddie Murphy's first starring movie role was in 48 Hrs. He co-starred with Nick Nolte. He had been hilarious working on TV in Saturday Night Live but this showed that he was ready for movies. Great action and comedy.
I love that you were talking about how your dad looked into your heritage. A lot of people today, of all cultures, act like it's bad to discuss where their family came from because of things that happened to others in that group. That doesn't matter. It's the past. No one can change the past. Discover your heritage and own it. It's yours. No one can take that from you
"She's You're Queen To Be" and "Sexual Chocolate" always, ALWAYS make me laugh.
These two actors just played off each other so well they were perfect for this movie perfect together! Good movie good choice
"We're learning!" : ) As a Cinephile this makes me happy to you discovering all of these classics. Pro Tip: Try to learn the names of the Director's as well as the actors. John Landis directed Eddie Murphy in Trading Places in 1983 and then a bunch of classic 80s comedies like Spies Like Us and Three Amigos! and a never-been-topped horror movie American Werewolf in London. He reunited with Eddie in 1988 for Coming to America and this was the height of Landis’s career. Everything else that followed kinda paled in comparison but his 80s contributions are 2nd to none.
I think he did Blue 's Brothers too
@@jameswoods4793 yeah, the 90s were rough
the father is John Amos who was the general in die hard 2. also the person in the barber chair was a young Cuba Gooding Jr. Love ur reactions.
Loved how both Eddie and Arsenio played multiple parts
You should have watched the credits at the end. Eddie was also the singer for the sexual chocolate band and one of the guys in the barber shop. Arsenio was the preacher and one of the guys in the barber shop too.
Eddie was two of the guys in the barber shop: the main barber and the old, white Jewish man.
@@davelister2961 I kind of thought so but wasn't sure so I guessed low
